PRELUDE Bless Us Now, Dear Lord, We Pray Donald Lee Moore

PASTOR’S GREETING, INTRODUCTIONS, AND LIFE OF THE CHURCH

CALL TO WORSHIP L: Come to worship, people of God, with praise on your lips. P: Even when we are feeling isolated and fearful, we can glorify the One who holds our hand in our loneliness. L: Come into the presence of the One who makes every place, every space, holy and sacred. P: Even where we continue to stay safe in our homes, the doors of grace are flung wide open for us. L: Come and hear the stories of the One who loves you. P: In living rooms, on laptops and devices, We will sing our songs and tell those tales of the peace and of the hope which is ours. L: Let us worship God!

HYMN #363 Rejoice, the Lord is King DARWALL’S 148TH (See music in bulletin)

PRAYER OF CONFESSION L: God of Mercy and Grace, Universal Healer, in this time of sickness we cry to You. We open our hearts to receive You, to find comfort in You. Today we pray about COVID-19. P: Lord, have mercy. L: You call us in such a time to be bold, to be brave. P: Forgive us Lord, for we have been afraid. L: You call us in such a time to stand tall in these earthly bodies.

To use hands and feet to serve. P: Forgive us Lord, when our fear has led us to cower from Your call to action. L: You call us in such a time not to trust sensationalism,

but to modestly and humbly stay the course we have been given. P: Forgive us when we let the news overshadow our neighbors.

Forgive us, also, when we haven’t taken the sort of caution that serves and protects our neighbors.

L: You call us in such a time never to let contingency plans change our perspective of each and every one of Your children. You call us away from xenophobia and into hospitality.

P: Forgive us, Lord, for the more deadly virus of racism which seeks to tear us apart.

L: Lastly, we acknowledge still our part to play for the sake of the common good. We acknowledge that as we stay the course of Your Kingdom in the world, still we must take caution in such a time.

P Forgive us when we have made light of the suffering of others. Forgive us when we have not considered our duty. Give us prudence in how to care for each other and Your global people.

(Silence is kept for personal confession)

Amen.

DECLARATION OF PARDON L: Church, take heart! You are forgiven, you are loved — Our Triune God will not leave us alone in this time— We, the Church, are powerful in Love. P: Transform us by Your Spirit and Your Word into a faithfulness which never falters. Bring us into Your Shalom, joining saints and angels of all ages.

In the name of the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit we pray. Amen. L: Let us worship God!

DOXOLOGY Hymn #606 Praise God from whom all blessings flow; Praise Him all creatures here below; Praise Him above, ye heavenly host; Praise Father, Son, and Holy Ghost. Amen.

SCRIPTURE READING: John 14:15-21 (NRSV, Pew Bible p. 877)

15 "If you love me, you will keep my commandments. 16 And I will ask the Father, and he will give you another Advocate, to be with you forever. 17 This is the Spirit of truth, whom the world cannot receive, because it neither sees him nor knows him. You know him, because he abides with you, and he will be in you. 18 "I will not leave you orphaned; I am coming to you. 19 In a little while the world will no longer see me, but you will see me;

because I live, you also will live. 20 On that day you will know that I am in my Father, and you in me, and I in you. 21 They who have my commandments and keep them are those who love me; and those who love me will be loved by my Father, and I will love them and reveal myself to them

SERMON People of God Rev. Dr. Sue Marie Baskette

AFFIRMATION OF FAITH Apostle's Creed

I believe in God the Father Almighty, Maker of heaven and earth, And in Jesus Christ His only Son our Lord; Who was conceived by the Holy Ghost, born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, dead, and buried; He descended into hell; the third day He rose again from the dead; He ascended into heaven, and is seated at the right hand of God the Father Almighty; from there He shall come to judge the quick and the dead. I believe in the Holy Ghost; the holy catholic Church; the communion of saints; the forgiveness of sins; the resurrection of the body; and the life everlasting. Amen.

HYMN Holy, Holy, Holy Dykes/Heber (See music in bulletin) (Verses 1 and 4)

PRAYER OF THANKSGIVING AND INTERCESSION, CONCLUDING WITH THE LORD’S PRAYER

The Lord’s Prayer Our Father Who art in heaven, hallowed be Thy Name.

Thy kingdom come, Thy will be done

On earth as it is in heaven.

Give us this day our daily bread;

And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors;

And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil.

For Thine is the kingdom and the power

And the glory, forever. Amen.

Each stanza of this enthronement text prepares for the final line of the refrain, based on Philippians 4:4.“Lord” is here a title of Christ rather than a reference to the undivided Trinity. The late 18th-century tune(first used with Psalm 148) captures the mood well.

You are invited! Trinity’s Ruth Circle of Presbyterian Women is creating a woven wall hanging for the sanctuary. It will be displayed, bringing color and joy to our sanctuary, during various seasons of the church year.

The women are entering into a study called “Into the Light: Finding Hope through Prayers of Lament.” This is a study that takes a look at the Hope which is woven into our psalms and other words of Scripture. Hope and healing in our lives, when we are in the midst of difficult times and circumstances, is found as we turn to Scripture. Looking to our Scripture we discover that an approach to our journey of healing during exasperating situations is often begun with lament. “Hear the voice of my pleas for mercy, when I cry to you for help …” (Psalm 28:2). Lament leads us to remember God and God’s promise. Lament leads us to Hope. “As Christians, hope is not just an emotional response or an attitude of pie in the sky. Hope implies movement: both God’s inherent movement toward justice and our movement toward God.”1 The wall hanging will be crafted from submissions of material with a prayer, a quote, your favorite Bible verse, your own psalm or poetry to God, or other meaningful words. You may even simply submit material with nothing written in your own hand. Perhaps you would like to submit a piece of material that carries its own sentimental language quietly to God from your heart. Please know that the written words that you share on your fabric submission will not appear as readable text in the finished product. All writing will be blended into the weave and will become the invisible prayers, love, and words of faith with which it is made. If you would like to contribute to this woven wall hanging, please contact Mary B. via email at [email protected]. She will be weaving our prayers together into a beautiful new tapestry. She asks that you leave the fabric in one piece so she can tear the material into the sizes needed for weaving the piece. The color and pattern on the fabric as well as the type of material are totally your choice. A great place to begin searching for a piece of material might be an old pillowcase or sheet.

THIS WEEK’S ANNOUNCEMENTS

PENTECOST OFFERING: The Pentecost Offering unites us in a church-wide effort to support young people and inspire them to share their faith, ideas, and unique gifts with the church and the world. Psalm 71 testifies that a foundation of faith established during childhood helps ensure lifelong faith and service. Through the Pentecost Offering, you are nurturing the faith of those who are the church to come –children, youth, and young adults. You can give by indicating Pentecost Offering on a check to Trinity, text the word YOUNG to 56512, go to www.pcusa.org/pentecost, or call 800-728-7228 ext. 5047.

THE FRIDAY WOMEN’S BIBLE STUDY FELLOWSHIP would like to extend a special invitation to all the women of Trinity to join in on Friday mornings at 9:30 AM to their Zoom gathering online. If this stay at home order has found you with extra time or a need for social interaction and a spiritual lift, please consider joining this special group. Contact the church office at [email protected] or call 445-4526 ext. 113.

THE SEARCH HAS BEGUN FOR A NEW OFFICE ASSOCIATE: It is with much sadness that I am leaving my position at Trinity. I have enjoyed my time here and felt such acceptance and care from all of you. This congregation is a great example of love, compassion, and discipleship. I have learned so much about my walk with Christ from being here and seeing how much you all do for others. The time has come for me to be closer to family, and so I am going to Tennessee where my daughter and her husband are expecting our granddaughter in early July. Many thanks for everything!

THE UPPER ROOM publication for May/June has arrived. If you missed the drive-up times for picking up a copy and would still like one, please contact the office at 445-4536 ext. 113 or email [email protected] and we can arrange a time for pick up.

LIKE OUR TPC FACEBOOK PAGE! The Outreach Team invites the Trinity family to go to our Trinity Presbyterian Church (TPC) Facebook page to like it! When in Facebook search, “@TrinityPrescottAZ” to find it and there you have options to like it, leave a comment, and/or share it with “friends.” This is a powerful tool to help us get the good word out about TPC.

COMMUNITY CUPBOARD NEWS: Thank you for your food and money donations. The money goes a long way because our buyer purchases items at a big discount for us. If you want to bring food please look for sales on canned fruit, canned meat, and peanut butter. These items are needed the most and cost the most for our buyer to purchase. Also, please continue to bring paper or plastic grocery bags and put them in the Community Cupboard box in the hallway outside the church office. THANK YOU!

CARE TEAM MISSION STATEMENT: To foster caring relationships within our church family as we hold each other up in prayer, encourage one another with phone calls, greeting cards, prayer shawls, home and hospital visits as well as acts of kindness for those in need such as bringing over a meal, help with grocery shopping or giving a ride to a medical appointment. YOUR MISSION "If you choose to accept it": is to let us know if you need

our assistance!! Contact the church office: 445-4536 ext. 113, Charlene: 771-8845 or 273-6093, or Charlie: 925-0057.

PER CAPITA - As Presbyterians, we agree to participate in the life of the wider church by serving Presbytery, Synod, and General Assembly. One of the ways we do this is through

our Per Capita apportionment which is how we mutually share the cost of coming together to discern the Spirit's leading for the future. Each member is responsible for their share of this cost. The Presbytery of Grand Canyon approved the 2020 Per Capita apportionment at $37.35 per member. Per Capita gifts should be made payable to Trinity and will be forwarded on to the Presbytery.

PASTOR SUE MARIE'S EMAIL: When corresponding with Pastor Sue Marie by email please double check what email address you are using. Please use the [email protected] address. There is another email address being used that is no longer active. Using an address other than the [email protected] will result in lost correspondence - and we do not want that happening. Thank you so much for your attention to this issue.

THE PRAYER SHAWL MINISTRY meets the second Thursday of each month, at 1:00 PM via zoom. Join us if you knit or crochet or would like to learn! Contact Charlene (928-771-8845) if you would like to receive a prayer shawl; we present them to our members who are welcoming a new baby, graduating high school, turning 90, or feel in need of the comfort of a prayer shawl.
