Our favourite place to visit was Buttermere, absolutely stunning!

Keswick is a really dog-friendly town!

Visit Cocklakes farm shop, it’s excellent for bbq food.

Take binoculars and a bird feeder - visiting woodpeckers are a delight and there are owls nearby too.

Daisy’s Cafe in Ambleside serves excellent food at great prices.

The Beacon Museum in Whitehaven was fantastic and very interesting.

The fish & chips from the local van that visits site were very good.

Visitor’s top tips

We spotted lots of toads and wildlife on the lower road near the stream.

The National Trust’s Aira Force Waterfall is absolutely stunning, plus it is dog-friendly and makes a lovely walk at any time of the year.

We definitely recommend a visit to Gretna Green, which also has a great shopping outlet village.

The Troutbeck Inn was excellent , and served a delicious Sunday Roast.

Visit the English Heritage’s Hadrin’s Wall, built by the Romans and stretching for 300 miles!
