Make A Difference
A man was walking down a deserted Mexican beach at sunset. As he walked
along he began to see another man in the distance.
As he grew nearer he noticed that the local native kept leaning down, picking
something up, and throwing it out into the water. Time and again he kept
hurling things out into the ocean.
As our friend approached even closer he noticed that the man was picking up
starfish that had washed up onto the beach, and one at a time, he was
throwing them back into the ocean.
The first man was puzzled. He approached the man and said, "Good Evening
Friend, I was wondering what are you doing?" And he replied, "I'm throwing
these starfish back into the ocean. You see, it's low tide right now and all
these starfish have been washed up onto the shore. If I don't throw them
back into the sea, they will die from the lack of oxygen."
"I understand," my friend replied "but there must be thousands of starfish
on this beach and you couldn't possibly get to all of them. There are simply
too many and don't you realize that this is happening on hundreds of beaches
up and down this coast ... can't you see that that you can't possibly make a
difference?
The local native smiled, bent down, picked up yet another starfish ... and as
he threw it back out into the sea, he replied, "It made a difference to that
one!"
You may feel like you cannot make a difference in the world today, but you
CAN make a difference in one life at a time.

Why Woman Cry
A little boy ask his mother Why are you crying? Because Im a woman she
told him
"I don't understand," he said. His Mom just hugged him and said, "And you
never will."
Later the little boy asked his father, "Why does mother seem to cry for no
reason?"
"All women cry for no reason," was all his dad could say.
The little boy grew up and became a man, still wondering why women cry.
Finally he put in a call to God. When God got on the phone, he asked, "God,
why do women cry so easily?"
God said: "When I made the woman she had to be special. I made her
shoulders strong enough to carry the weight of the world, yet gentle enough
to give comfort. I gave her an inner strength to endure childbirth and the
rejection that many times comes from her children. I gave her a hardness
that allows her to keep going when everyone else gives up, and take care of
her family through sickness and fatigue without complaining. I gave her the
sensitivity to love her children under any and all circumstances, even when
her child has hurt her very badly.
I gave her strength to carry her husband through his faults and fashioned
her from his rib to protect his heart. I gave her wisdom to know that a good
husband never hurts his wife, but sometimes tests her strengths and her
resolve to stand beside him unfalteringly. And finally, I gave her a tear to
shed. This is hers exclusively to use whenever it is needed."

"You see my son," said God, "the beauty of a woman is not in the clothes she
wears, the figure that she carries, or the way she combs her hair.
The beauty of a woman must be seen in her eyes, because that is the
doorway to her heart - the place where love resides."

YOU NEVER LOSE YOUR VALUE
A well known speaker started off his seminar by holding up a $20 bill. In
the room of 200, he asked "What is this piece of paper and is it worth
anything?" "It is a $20 bill, which can be cashed in international & national
markets for it's quoted value?" replied one of the many participants who
raised their hands.
The speaker proceeded to crumple up the $20 bill using both his hands until
it became a bundle of wrinkled paper. He then unfolded it again and making
an unsuccessful attempt to keep it straight he asked, "Would you still be
able to negotiate it for it's quoted value?"
"Yes!!" was the echoing reply from the participants.
"Well," he said, "Looks like I haven't done enough! What if I do this?" And
he dropped it on the ground and started to grind it into the floor with his
shoe. He picked it up, which was now all crumpled, dirty, defaced and not
easy to recognize from a distance. "Now will someone like to trade it for its
quoted value?" Many hands went in the air.
"I think that piece of currency is still holding its quoted value" replied a
participant in an unsure voice. "This bill can still fetch goods worth 20
Dollars" said the other participants. Everyone agreed.
"My friends, there is a very valuable lesson in this exercise that we are just
through with. It may have appeared to some of you, that I was able to
deshape, deface, mutilate & alter the $20 bill during the process as the
effects were quite visible".
"However, No matter what I did to this piece of paper, you still upheld its
negotiability because you were sure in your mind that my actions did not
actually decrease its value. It was still a currency note worth $20".

"Many times in our lives, we feel as though we are dropped, crumpled,
and ground into the dirt by the decisions we make and/or the circumstances
that come our way. We feel as though we are worthless. It may also
appear to onlookers as if it has really happened to a certain extent. But no
matter what has happened or what will happen, please remember you never
luse your value

Time Of Love
The man came home from work late again, tired and irritated, to find his 5
year old son waiting for him at the door.
Daddy, may I ask you a question?"
"Yeah, sure, what is it?" replied the man.
"Daddy, how much money do you make an hour?"
"That's none of your business! What makes you ask such a thing?" the man
said angrily.
"I just want to know. Please tell me, how much do you make an hour?"
pleaded the little boy.
"If you must know, I make $20.00 an hour."
"Oh," the little boy replied, head bowed.
Looking up, he said, "Daddy, may I borrow $10.00 please?"
The father was furious. "If the only reason you wanted to know how much
money I make is just so you can borrow some to buy a silly toy or some other
nonsense, then you march yourself straight to your room and go to bed.
Think about why you're being so selfish. I work long, hard hours everyday
and don't have time for such childish games." The little boy quietly went to
his room and shut the door.
The man sat down and started to get even madder about the little boy's
questioning. How dare he ask such questions only to get some money.
After an hour or so, the man had calmed down, and started to think he may
have been a little hard on his son. Maybe there was something he really
Phan Quang Huy- Su Tm Page 7
needed to buy with that $10.00, and he really didn't ask for money very
often.
The man went to the Door of the little boy's room and opened the door. "Are
you asleep son?" he asked.
"No daddy, I'm awake," replied the boy.
"I've been thinking, maybe I was too hard on you earlier," said the man. "It's
been a long day and I took my aggravation out on you. Here's that $10.00 you
asked for."
The little boy sat straight up, beaming. "Oh, thank you daddy!" he yelled.
Then, reaching under his pillow, he pulled out some more crumpled up bills.
The man, since the boy already had money, started to get angry again. The
little boy slowly counted out his money, then looked up at the man.
"Why did you want more money if you already had some?" the father
grumbled.
"Because I didn't have enough, but now I do," the little boy replied.
"Daddy, I have $20.00 now. Can I buy an hour of your time?"

Believe In Yourself
There may be days when you get up in the morning and things aren't the way
you had hoped they would be.
That's when you have to tell yourself that things will get better. There are
times when people disappoint you and let you down.
But those are the times when you must remind yourself to trust your own
judgments and opinions, to keep your life focused on believing in yourself.
There will be challenges to face and changes to make in your life, and it is up
to you to accept them.
Constantly keep yourself headed in the right direction for you. It may not be
easy at times, but in those times of struggle you will find a stronger sense of
who you are.
So when the days come that are filled with frustration and unexpected
responsibilities, remember to believe in yourself and all you want your life to
be.
Because the challenges and changes will only help you to find the goals that
you know are meant to come true for you.
Keep Believing in Yourself

Be Thankful
Should you find something on your dinner plate that doesn't appeal to you,
don't complain. There are people who don't have anything on their plate.
Should you find yourself stuck in traffic, don't despair. There are people in
this world for whom driving is an unheard of privilege.
Should you despair over a relationship gone bad, think of the person who has
never known what it's like to love and be loved in return.
Should you grieve the passing of another weekend, think of the woman in
dire straits, working twelve hours a day, seven days a week to feed her
children.
Should your car break down, leaving you miles away from assistance, think of
the paraplegic who would love the opportunity to take that walk

An Old Man and His Dog
An old man and his dog were walking along a country road, enjoying the
scenery, when it suddenly occurred to the man that he had died. He
remembered dying, and realized, too, that the dog had been dead for many
years. He wondered where the road would lead them, and continued onward.
After a while, they came to a high, white stone wall along one side of the
road. It looked like fine marble. At the top of a long hill, it was broken by a
tall, white arch that gleamed in the sunlight. When he was standing before
it, he saw a magnificent gate in the arch that looked like mother of pearl,
and the street that led to the gate looked like pure gold. He was pleased
that he had finally arrived at heaven, and the man and his dog walked toward
the gate. As he got closer, he saw someone sitting at a beautifully carved
desk off to one side.
When he was close enough, he called out, "Excuse me, but is this heaven?"
"Yes, it is, sir," the man answered.
"Wow! Would you happen to have some water?" the man asked.
"Of course, sir. Come right in, and I'll have some ice water brought right
up." The gatekeeper gestured to his rear, and the huge gate began to open.
"I assume my friend can come in..." the man said, gesturing toward his dog.
But the reply was, "I'm sorry, sir, but we don't accept pets."
The man thought about it, then thanked the gatekeeper, turned back toward
the road, and continued in the direction he had been going. After another
long walk, he reached the top of another long hill, and he came to a dirt road
which led through a farm gate. There was no fence, and it looked as if the
Phan Quang Huy- Su Tm Page 11
gate had never been closed, as grass had grown up around it. As he
approached the gate, he saw a man just inside, sitting in the shade of a tree
in a rickety old chair, reading a book. "Excuse me!" he called to the reader.
"Do you have any water?"
"Yeah, sure, there's a pump over there," the man said, pointing to a place
that couldn't be seen from outside the gate. "Come on in and make yourself
at home."
"How about my friend here?" the traveler gestured to the dog.
"He's welcome too, and there's a bowl by the pump," he said. They walked
through the gate and, sure enough, there was an old-fashioned hand pump
with a dipper hanging on it and a bowl next to it on the ground. The man
filled the bowl for his dog, and then took a long drink himself.
When both were satisfied, he and the dog walked back toward the man, who
was sitting under the tree waiting for them, and asked, "What do you call
this place?" the traveler asked.
"This is heaven," was the answer.
"Well, that's confusing," the traveler said. "It certainly doesn't look like
heaven, and there's another man down the road who said that place was
heaven."
"Oh, you mean the place with the gold street and pearly gates?
"Yes, it was beautiful."
"Nope. That's hell."
"Doesn't it offend you for them to use the name of heaven like that?"
Phan Quang Huy- Su Tm Page 12
"No. I can see how you might think so, but it actually saves us a lot of time.
They screen out the people who are willing to leave their best friends
behind."

Lessons In Life
There was a man who had four sons. He wanted his sons to learn not to judge
things too quickly. So he sent them each on a quest, in turn, to go and look at
a pear tree that was a great distance away.
The first son went in the winter, the second in the spring, the third in
summer, and the youngest son in the fall.
When they had all gone and come back, he called them together to describe
what they had seen.
The first son said that the tree was ugly, bent, and twisted. The second son
said no it was covered with green buds and full of promise.
The third son disagreed; he said it was laden with blossoms that smelled so
sweet and looked so beautiful, it was the most graceful thing he had ever
seen.
The last son disagreed with all of them; he said it was ripe and drooping with
fruit, full of life and fulfillment.
The man then explained to his sons that they were all right, because they
had each seen but only one season in the tree's life.
He told them that you cannot judge a tree, or a person, by only one season,
and that the essence of who they are and the pleasure, joy, and love that
come from that life can only be measured at the end, when all the seasons
are up.
If you give up when it's winter, you will miss the promise of your spring, the
beauty of your summer, fulfillment of your fall.
Moral:
Don't let the pain of one season destroy the joy of all the rest.

Don't judge life by one difficult season

I May Never See Tomorrow
I may never see tomorrow; there's no written guarantee
And things that happened yesterday belong to history.
I cannot predict the future, I cannot change the past,
I have just the present moments, I must treat it as my last.
I must use this moment wisely for it soon will pass away,
and be lost forever, as part of yesterday.
I must exercise compassion, help the fallen to their feet,
Be a friend unto the friendless, make an empty life complete.
The unkind things I do today may never be undone,
And friendships that I fail to win may nevermore be won.
I may not have another chance on bended knees to pray,
and I thank God with a humble heart for giving me this Day

A New Day
The sun has begun to set and I hang up the smile I've worn all day. Though I
will make sure it is the first thing I put back on in the morning because just
in case it is 'that day,' I want her to see me at my very best.
I do the normal routine, eat dinner, clean the house, write -- the usual stuff.
And then I lay down hoping to fall asleep quickly so my new day will hurry up
and arrive. A new day with a brand new sun.
But as I lay there and wait for the world to turn half way around, I think
about her. And sometimes I smile, and sometimes that smile will turn into a
snicker, and then often that snicker will turn into a burst of laughter.
And then there are times I get that lump in my throat and that tight feeling
in my chest, and sometimes that feeling overwhelms me and begins to turn
into a tear, and often that tear multiplies itself and I can no longer fight the
feeling and I lose the battle. .
Then somehow through either the joy or the sadness I drift and find myself
asleep. Then the dreams begin and keep me company until my new day
arrives.
When I awake it's with such excitement! Because I tell myself this could be
the day that every other day has led up to and the first day of the rest of
my life. I quickly dawn my smile, because I do so want her to see me at my
very best. Then I look out the window even though I know it's dawn, but I
still have to confirm I've been given another chance to find her.
And there it is ... the sun, even when it's cloudy; somehow I still see it. And
it smiles at me and I say "thank you" and I smile back.
Then I ask myself, "Is this the day?" And the excitement rushes over me
again. And then I ask myself, "Where's it going to be?"
Phan Quang Huy- Su Tm Page 17
Maybe it'll be at the water fountain and unexpectedly there I'll find her and
much more than my thirst will be quenched.
Maybe it'll be at the grocery store, and there she'll appear as I'm picking
out fruit and she'll show me the difference between fresh and spoiled. Then
from that moment, nothing that I will eat will ever taste the same. Because
she'll bring out the simplest beauties in everything I see, taste, smell, hear,
or touch.
Or maybe today will be the day when my Angel brings an item up to the cash
register without its price tag. And as I wait behind this Angel with all the
frustrated people who are in such a hurry about their busy lives, I will find
myself with such blessed extra time. Just enough time to start a
conversation with this beautiful vision standing behind me that I might not
otherwise would have noticed. But because of a "price check on register 5," I
was able to find her.
So will today be the day I say, "THANK YOU GOD!" Thank you for the sun,
which began my new day. Thank you for granting me the faith when I arose
this morning that I would find her in this new day. But most of all, thank you
for me not having to ever wait on another sunrise. Because whenever I want
to see it, I will look at her and there it shall always be, in her eyes, she will
forever hold it for me.
She is my sunrise, my dawn, my new day.
