ManHattan, nY TSC Design recently completed the North American head-quarters for Toyota Motor North America, Inc. Toyota took occupancy of their new space in January, and it is comprised of 30,500 s/f and located at 153 East 49th St.
Toyota’s new office is designed to
reflect Toyota’s mission - to contribute to people’s lifestyle, the environment through sustainable practices and the economy by way of automobile manufacturing. When you walk through the doors of Toyota Motor North America, you are greeted with the main reception area. The room is
designed to define an intimate waiting area with a decorative pendant fixture and custom area carpet. Just beyond the reception area is a full glass front boardroom with unobstructed views of the east side of New York City’s most monumental buildings. One of the boardroom’s unique features is the Switchlite privacy glass. This electrified glass wall can be powered on for a clear wall or powered off for a translucent, private wall. To further accommodate Toyota associates and colleagues, TSC created an executive suite; which incorporated private of-fices, administrative support, a con-ferencing room, traditional receiving lounge and private bath. Within the space is a small lounge that can be used as a rest area following a long inbound flight or as a work area for visitors who need a comfortable place to relax.
Sustainability was a key factor in the design and construction of Toyota’s headquarters. As it was at the forefront of importance, the team utilized all their resources and Toyota is now seeking Gold certifica-tion of their space from the USGBC. Toyota is also eligible to receive green building tax credits under auspices of the New York State Energy Re-search and Development Authority (NYSERDA).
The project team consisted of: TSC Design – providing design and interior architecture services; WB Engineers – providing M/E/P ser-vices; Jones Lang LaSalle – providing project management services; ACC Construction – providing general contracting services; PROPEL Real Estate Resources – providing owners representative services; and Meadows Office Furniture Co. – providing office furniture.
