The Club was chartered on the 8th May 1987 with 26 members. Charter President was Trevor Turner, who was later to become the Club’s first Paul Harris Fellow. The Rotary Club of Beecroft was the Mother Club under the guidance of mentor, Past President Ken Wonson, who led the club through the difficult early days. Of the charter members inducted only four were serving Rotarians. From the start it was a young and energetic club, membership focussed on serving the community. Early projects were community based, and in Australia's Bicentenary Year of 1988, the Club constructed a Wishing Well on a former historic site in the grounds of West Pennant Hills Public School complete with time capsule. As a young club we reached our target for Polio Plus ($4,000,00) and donated a Talking Book Machine to the Royal Blind Society. Our Youth Exchange program was working well with student Andrew Handley in Japan, and Gretchen Hill coming from America. The club conducted its first Plant Sale and night out at "The Burning Log" (fundraiser). We supported the Salvation Army Red Shield Appeal, The Merrymakers Group, the Royal Blind Society and the Mission to Seamen book and magazine "round up". We made Pride of Workmanship Awards to Mrs Lorelle Shelley of West Pennant Hills, telephone counsellor and President of Nursing Mothers Association, and Mr Bill Pinfold, from Hills Menswear in Thorby Arcade. We concentrated on establishing the Club's reputation in the community. The year saw the introduction of the Club's involvement in Christmas tree sales and the introduction of the "Friendship" dinners, where small parties of members and their wives ventured into each others homes for fellowship. Also the improvement of the children's playing facilities at the Edward Bennett Drive park, and provided books for presentation nights to four local schools. Our fundraising activities relied heavily upon what are becoming traditions of the Club - the Plant Sale and Burning Log night out. Our attendance averaged some 82.33% and this compares favourably with district average of 75.46%. The club this year met its target of 100% members, Life Membership of this Division of Rotary International. Polio Plus - Funds raised exceeded the budget set by District. Our second outward bound student, Lindy Chadwick went to Dauphin, Canada. We conducted a meeting at the Life Education Centre at Colyton. The interest created amongst the members was such that the Club donated $1000 to the Baulkharn Hills Life Education Mobile Centre. It is to be hoped that our Club will provide ongoing support for the youth in the Hills District. The Club bestowed a Paul Harris fellowship on the Club's Charter President, Trevor Turner. Bulletin Cee De Jong We looked forward to the return of exchange student Carmill Gorme and hearing of her experiences in America. We responded to our District Governor's call for help in restoring Nyngan, a new dimension in community helping disaster areas within Australia. Our participation in FAIM sending a team (PP Allyn Day, PP Howard Fleming, President Theo Taylor, PE Larry Jacka and Rtn Bob Myatt) to Onamuga in the Eastern Highlands Province of Papua New Guinea. This was a very successful project, which paved the way for ongoing assistance by us in the area. We made a Pride of Workmanship Award to Mrs Gwen Millhouse. "Small Business Seminar" May 1990 This seminar was conducted at the McDonald's Conference Centre Thornleigh. Subjects addressed were the state of the small business economy, management and financial principles, marketing and taxation. The seminar was attended by a wide range of small businesses ranging from secretarial services to trades people and shop keepers and was well received. It was significant that much interest was shown after the meeting, two local newspapers contacting us for details. Rotary Youth Programme of Enrichment (RYPEN). Theresa Lynch represented our club at the RYPEN seminar and was a good representative. Childrens Camps -Our Club sponsored two underprivileged children to camps at Vision Valley during school holidays. Such was the impact of this venture that a member and a supporter of our club anonymously sponsored a further three to the camps. Every year our Club assists with the Salvation Army Red Shield Appeal. Presentation of book prizes to the three primary schools in our area, namely, West Pennant Hills, John Purchase and Cherrybrook. The recession bit hard into our fundraising programs and was responsible for the fact that we did not attain all our objectives however the Club maintained its ambitious community support. The Club broke new ground in running its first charity golf day. Further to the FAIM project at the Salvation Army Mission Station at Onamuga, Papua New Guinea, near Goroka. Through the efforts of the team, several large projects have since been completed. The major one being a donation of K10000 (A$9000) from the then closing Rotary Club of Goroka which went towards a new water drainage collection system for the station. In addition to this, other programs have been introduced including the establishment of the "Asumi Kafave Memorial Trust Fund" for the education of children from the Onarnuga Valley. Asumi Kafave was a Salvation Army Officer from Onamuga, whose caring and gentle nature and who looked after the team touched them so. Asumi died in 1991 from Cerebral Malaria. More recently the "Wesley Koni Trust" has been set up. The Fund will look after the future living and education expenses of four year old Wesley Koni, the son of one of the helpers on the FAIM project. Pride of Workmanship awards were presented to: Joan Williams, Shopkeeper of Cherrybrook; Paul Miller, Tree Surgeon of Cherrybrook; Barry Williams, Butcher at Cherrybrook and Allan Drew, Funeral Director of Kellyville. Pernille Lund our exchange student from Denmark left her mark after a year with us. We also had Camilla Gorme from New York State for a successful visit. We sponsored four children at the Vision Valley holiday camp for under privileged. We read the case studies of two of the children and they make you realise why this program deserves our continued support. Fellowship within the Club remains our great strength, and provides us with a solid foundation.

I was privileged to assume the mantle of President, an honour simultaneously accepted by 25678 Presidents of Rotary Clubs throughout the world. First of all the contribution which the ladies made to the Club, which I would like to recognise, and illustrate: their untiring assistance in fundraising activities such as the "sausage sizzle" at the opening of the Cherrybrook Community Centre, catering for the "Cocktails in the Gallery" evening, the Plant Sale, where they organised a most successful raffle and ran a cake stall. Their input provided that added dimension and quality to special Rotary nights and activities, because, by their contribution they do just that. Ladies, thank you. The Club moved to a new "home" within its local area. We settled in very nicely at the Cherrybrook Community Centre. After five years, we were ready to award Paul Harris Fellowships which were awarded to Past Presidents Theo Taylor, Larry Jacka and Rotarian Cees De Jong. Pride of Workmanship Awards were presented to: Stephen "Spud" Murphy, Entertainer, George Varvartessos, Butcher and Harley Rustin, Magistrate. Youth Exchange & Vision Valley. It was a pleasure to welcome Nadine Zylstra as our incoming exchange student from South Africa. With the support of a local benefactor, we were able to send four people to Vision Valley camps this year. In all cases these children had been severely disadvantaged economically and in some instances abused at home. Youth Transition Seminar. District hold a seminar each year to which senior students leaving school are assisted into the workplace or to the next stage of their education. We sponsored Malcolm Bradley. Rotary Sports/Cultural Enhancement Programme. Recognising that we should identify young people who are achieving excellence in sport, art or music we have introduced a sponsorship award to those young people who have potential for ultimate success in their chosen field. We sponsored two outstanding young athletes. Melissa Harris, who at 15 years is breaking records in the High Jump and Heptathlon events, and Glen Stojanovic, an 18 year lad achieved outstanding success in athletics. Both have been selected to compete in the World Junior Games in Seoul, Korea. Onamuga FAIM contacts. We voted for funding for a solar hot water panel for one of the Onamuga dormitories. This was one of the many pressing needs for the Mission. President - Allyn Day

Another year gone by and the Club's standing and achievements within Rotary and the community continue to grow. It is not so much what we as members think, but as others see us. In this vein it is most pleasing that our Club was awarded RI President Cliff Dochterrnan's, Presidential Citation in recognition of our Club's efforts in all four avenues of Rotary Service. This year, significant gains were made in keeping in touch and responding to the needs of the community. The notice board at Cherrybrook Shopping Centre, the Club's representation on the Cherrybrook Technology High School Board and our input to Pennant Hills and John Purchase Public Schools. New firsts in fundraising for the Club involved an Auction Night and a Trailer Raffle. The Rotary Roundabout project, a landmark of the area and an outward and visible sign that Rotary is indeed in the area. We completed the planting of 200 shrubs and put a groundcover over the Roundabout at the corner of Shepherds Drive and New Line Road. Fellowship at the Rotary International Convention in Melbourne - With 33% of members attending our Club had the best percentage representation of any Club outside Melbourne. Membership -With a recession, it had been predicted that a reduction of up 10% in Rotary membership could occur. Our Club Membership has increased in the year with 16% and our result here could see us the District winner. The Tree of Joy was held again with tremendous support from the whole Cherrybrook Community. On Australia Day we organised the feeding of about 300 participants and organisers of the Oz Day 10k Wheelchair Race at Dawes Point. The Cherrybrook Bush Fire Brigade was presented with a Community Service Award. In combined effort with other Rotary Clubs, we went to Camp Breakaway to repaint Camp's cabins. Pride of Workmanship Awards were presented to Sergeant Tom McKenzie from the Pennant Hills Police Station and Ian Creak from the rental vehicle business at West Pennant Hills. Youth Exchange - Our South African exchange student Nadine Zylstra continued her successful stay in our country. We supported the National Science Summer School and the Pan-Pacific Music Group. Matthew Harrison from Parramatta Marist School represented our club at the National Science School at the ANU in Canberra. Skye Watson, a student at William Clarke College, was sponsored by us to the music camp. This young lady is just 16 and has been learning the violin since the age of 4. RYPEN (Rotary Youth Program of Enrichment) - held over 3 days at the Salvation Army Youth and Community Centre in Collaroy. Cherrybrook Technology High School nominated two year 12 students, Annika Fung and Raj Thukral, both of whom were fine Ambassadors for our club. We participated in the New Zealand Matched Exchange Program sponsoring Nicolette Maury and Kelly Gray. President – Colin Gage

If Service above Self is the undertaking of Rotary Service then our community has seen the Club achieve new milestones of performance. Rotary was instrumental in preparing the feasibility study for the establishment of a new Youth Centre costing $125,000 and funded by Hornsby Council. The Livewire program sponsored by Shell Australia and the NSW Government and promoted by Rotary enabled over 135 young people to develop their Business Plans for products or services which they sought to promote. Organised by the Giants Baseball Club we are proud to have participated with the Community in raising of over $13,000 for the Rotary Gift of Life program for the Rachel and Sarah Foundation. For the second year, the Club has been awarded the RI President's Presidential Citation in recognition of our Club's efforts in all four Avenues of Rotary Service. Pride of Workmanship Awards were presented to Mary Anne Spencer for Service in her Real Estate Business in Cherrybrook and Paul Hable for his service to young people in our area. Our American Exchange Student, Anne Schwalge from Dyer, Indiana, soon settled down into her Australian homes and learnt much about our way of life, especially after her safari of the Eastern states. Cameron Baseley, school Captain at Pennant Hills High, went as Exchange Student to Oneida, in upper New York State. For 1995 we selected as our outgoing student, Jodie Smith, who has nominated Argentina as her host country. Jodie is Captain at Cherrybrook High School. We participated in the National Science Summer School, for the third successive year when we had our nominee, Kirsten Nichols from Pennant Hills selected to attend this very popular School. Rotary Youth Leadership Awards. Jennifer Cranna was selected to attend RYLA. This is a week long, live-in course tor young people with leadership potential. Rotary Youth Program of Enhancement. We sponsored two students from Cherrybrook Technology High School, Irvin and Jehan Hirarnanek, both year ten students, to this weekend at Camp Breakaway. The Fellowship tradition continued with the Car Trial to Mt. Tomah, Progressive Dinners, Crazy Whist Nights, and visits to restaurants. President - Morris Wood

1st the membership challenge. To increase from 35 to 42 members, including our first two female members, with another 2 good prospects to start off next Rotary year. Another highlight was the work on improving, and having nearly 400 turn up for the opening of the Callicoma Bush Track. This was better than the 50 that we thought might turn up; far better even than the 150 catered for by Council. It was a day our work in conjunction with Council was recognised. Our major project was to raise money to buy an anaesthetic unit for Bear Cottage, which will be the Children's Hospice attached to the Royal Alexandria Hospital. Rotary's 90th Birthday was duly celebrated by making PP Allyn Day a Paul Harris Fellow. Who will forget the mammoth effort by our members and partners in producing the first Art & Craft Show from an empty hall to a full completion in less than 30 hours! Furthermore, the Nordby Retirement Village Outings, Tree of Joy, Wheelchair Sports Association, Red Shield Appeal and the Roundabout maintenance at Shepherds Drive. We again participated in the festivities of the Chinese Lantern Festival, providing the traditional Australian barbecue.

Bowel Scan project saw some 180 kits sold which was very close to our objective of 200. Pride of Workmanship Award presented to Mark Watson, teacher of Computer Technology at C.T.H.S. Youth Programme - We sponsored Mamie Blewitt to the CRA Science Summer School in Canberra.

Andrew Greig attended the RYPEN seminar, having been chosen by Cherrybrook Technology High School as a worthy attendee. Heidi Usher is the Youth Leader of the Cherrybrook Youth Centre. We sponsored her to the RYLA camp which takes youth leaders from scouting, church and other groups and provides them with the training and encouragement needed to improve their leadership skills. Kimia Haghighat was the first student we sponsored to the Rotary Adventure in Citizenship. Nicholas Marston and Daniel Hays, attended the Siemens Science Summer School. Jason Chan and Andrew Baker attended the International Music School. Michelle Connor completed her Matched Student Exchange and gave a talk to the club with a demonstration of Maori Poi dancing. Lisa Sthalekar was chosen to captain the Australian Schoolgirls Cricket Team and the Club assisted with her expenses on the tour of England. Last but not least Cameron Baseley returned from his International Exchange. President – Ross Ballinger

Many of our plans have been achieved and a number of significant events occurred that were not envisaged in our objectives, ie, the appointments of Howard Fleming and Allyn Day to lead the District teams overseas to China and Italy respectively. A very commendable delegation of five members of our Club, travelled to the International Rotary Conference at Calgary, Canada. Other fellowship activities included restaurant nights, in-home BBQ’s, a weekend away to Coolangatta and another good representation to the District Conference in Newcastle. The Club visited the coal mine at Cooranbong, and visited Ross Ballinger’s business of design and manufacture of Signs, and last but not least visits to "Business Planning" at Richard Champion’s Company. Two Pride of Workmanship Awards were given to people from the retail area of Cherrybrook. Maria Martelli of Martelli Fruit Market was a worthy recipient as was John Cunningham from the Appletree Drive Pharmacy. Mr. Bill Dixon, a resident of Cherrybrook, was an outstanding recipient of the Community Service Award. He has been totally involved in community projects with an emphasis on Meals on Wheels for thirteen years and the Bush Fire Brigade for over forty years. Youth Service. Jodie Smith returned from her year in Argentina and our inbound student from Belgium, Arnaud Viggria, settled into the West Pennant Hills community and Cherrybrook THS. Our outbound student, Steven Riddell has settled in Belgium and, from his reports, he also appears to be making a success of his year away. Our outbound student for 1997, Erin Bowland from Cherrybrook THS, will be spending a year in Denmark. President – Graham Coles

The Rotary wheel turns once again, another year of meaningful fellowship has passed with excellent results for our Club and its members. Our aims and objectives for the year have been met and in many cases exceeded. Membership now stands at 45 an increase of 3 for the year. The year has seen most of our objectives achieved with many excellent results including our Trailer Raffle organised so professionally and supported by our team of super sales people; a successful Combined Garage and Plant Sale; Christmas Tree Sales reached new heights and the Tree of Joy once again showing the overflowing goodwill of the community, harnessed by Rotary. This year at the Oz Day Wheelchair Race we learnt how to cook sausages in the rain, still enjoy ourselves and gain valuable recognition for Rotary thanks to Radio 2UE. The CTHS Bi-Annual Art Show, co-ordinated and assisted by Rotary, continues to grow in scale and recognition. Our social programme has been full and varied with obvious acceptance by members. The M2 opening was an outstanding success. Other important activities which we were involved in this year included the forming of the Phil Hamilton Memorial Interact Club at CTHS. The celebration of our 10th Birthday, Melbourne Cup Night races, attendance by 12 couples at District Conference at Canberra, involvement at the Chinese Lantern Festival, presenting of Pride of Workmanship Awards, entertaining the residents of Nordby Village with a BBQ in the State Forest and participating in the Youth Exchange Programme with Kristina Klintenas as our inbound student and Erin Bowland as our outbound student. The year has gone so quickly. When you look back and reflect on your initial plans which were formulated at this time last year and the achievements made, this year has been most pleasing from many points of view. We have seen a year of major achievements and records such as : a record Membership number a record in funds raised a record in funds distributed to worthwhile charities a record number of club members involved in District committees and activities a record in Membership attendance at the Annual District Conference. This last item also saw the Club again achieve the 1st prize for Saturday evening dinner dance fancy dress with all attendees participating in the theme of "Four Weddings & a Funeral". This produced many laughs and sights which had to be seen to be believed and our exchange student Julie looked great as a bride and could have been easily married off on the spot. In addition to these achievements we have seen the emergence of our own future District Governor for the year 1999/2000 in Larry Jacka and this in itself will entail considerable involvement by all members at the time of the District Conference in March 2000. All the mentioned Club achievements could not have been made without the able assistance and co-operation of a great group of friends. This virtually involved everyone in the Club who all put their shoulder to the wheel when asked. Many thanks and appreciation also goes to those members involved in the record Fundraising, set up early in the year. The funds raised from this activity were passed on to the Club's major beneficiary in the 'Asthma Foundation'. Special thanks to the committee in the organisation of the Garage Sale, an event which continues to grow in volume and proceeds. The growth in these many aspects was also evident in the level of our Club's commitment to the Wheelchair Sports Day on January 26 and the result, in a new venue, where we sold out of everything including the ice from the drink van, which was a huge thrill. This event seems to get not only better but bigger and could not have been achieved without the support of all and especially the support of our partners. President – David Denton

Bulletin Siva Sivanasan This Rotary year will be remembered for fun and innovation in the Community Service area i.e. Ronald McDonald House and Seniors Christmas Party. The disappointment of the year was the loss of our involvement with the NSW Wheelchair Sports Association on Australia Day. Having said this we can reflect that the challenge for the year of enhancing fellowship, community involvement and fundraising activities has been achieved. Whilst we have inducted two new members, we also lost two members, so our Membership remains at 44. The District Conference in Tamworth was attended by forty of our fellows and partners (a record!). Whilst we were robbed of 1st prize for the Saturday evening extravaganza it will be remembered for the train ride to and from the venue and the fun. We also had some insight into the Conference organisation, which will undoubtedly assist us for the Conference in March 2000. We now hold the Conference Banner fellows! Congratulations to Larry Jacka on his installation as District Governor. Let us make sure that we give 100% support to both Larry and Miriam for the year and in particular make Larry's 2000 Conference one to be remembered. We have been fortunate this year to have Ryan Acker as our exchange student. I think all will agree he is a great ambassador for the USA, as well as a good assistant to the Sergeant.

The major beneficiaries from fundraising this year have been Ronald McDonald House, Jacaranda Lodge and Rotary Foundation, with the funds being raised from:

Trailer Raffle, Christmas Tree Sales, Great Debate/Auction and Garage Sale.

Without the support of all the Club members, the success of these events would not have been possible. In addition I would like to recognise the involvement and untiring support of our partners throughout the year. President – Bob Crabb

This Rotary year was always going to be a different year for our Club mainly because its not everyday a Club has a District Governor amongst its members. We set some key issues at the beginning of the year as per our Vision Statement, Key Issues and Aims. The first of our Key Issues was to organise an excellent District Conference. I know most Members believe that we organised one of the most successful District Conferences held in district 9680 in recent years. Another Key Issue was to show support for DG Larry within the District. Implementing new fundraising strategies was another of our Key Issues for the year. We raised a total of just under $50,000 during the year for our Activities Account. I would especially like to thank Club Service Director, Jim Kehoe, for the huge amount of time and effort he put into obtaining the Rugby jumpers from the various teams, and then disposing of them in such a winning way. They returned over $21,000 to the Club, and part of the proceeds ($10,600) was donated to the Children’s Cancer Institute of Australia. With the District Conference on the Club's agenda, I always believed that this Rotary year would not be a money raising year. Unintentionally it may well have been the year in which we raised record funds. I somehow knew that it would also not be a year in which we carried out a large program of Service to the Community. In this area I feel we may have fallen behind, mainly because of the time and resources required from so many members for the Conference. On the youth front we supported RYLA, RYPEN and NYSF. We sent Stephen Bushell to Wellington NZ on the Matched Exchange Program and welcomed his match Craig McWilliam during his return visit. We continued to support Ronald McDonald house with three BBQ nights and a clean-up day. Nordby Retirement Village appreciate the support the Club has given them in entertaining their older members. The Club's social program has continued and we had six outings during the year. I would particularly like to thank Dick Bushell for the considerable amount of time and work he has devoted to have nurse, Diane Doana (from PNG) spend some time training at the Sydney Adventist Hospital this year. One of the things I wanted to achieve this Rotary year was to change some of the ways we did things. One was to involve Directors much more in the running of the Club not just in their own portfolio but in their leadership of different activities and functions. Another was for each Director to act as meeting Manager and Dinner Chairman for at least two months of each year. As you know, the Champion family has not had a real healthy year in 2000. For about four months I was unable to perform my duties as President. President – Richard Champion

This was a year of arrivals and departures, visits and Community and International activities. A Club is only as strong as its members and in 2000-2001 we lost more than we gained. We said a final farewell to Allyn Day, a sad loss to cancer. We also saw a number of long standing members move about the state including Past President Richard Champion as well as Graham Draffin, both of whom have joined Rotary in their new locations. Other members who have left us due to pressure of work, other activities, or the unavoidable impact of increasing years included Cees DeJong, Gabriel Felkai, Don Hansell, Peter Salter, Siva Sivanasen, Bob Smart, Noel Stewart and Ray Wilkes. On the brighter side we welcomed Ray and Sue Ashton, Geoff and Allison Cripps, Graham and Judy Cuthbertson and Erik and Dianne Lindstrom. The Olympics occupied part of our time at the beginning of the year, and we were pleased to be able welcome members of the Jamaican team to our Club. Despite sterling efforts by our Fundraising Committee, the fundraising success this year was not able to emulate the efforts of last year. During the year we commenced the task of getting the records of the Club membership into a computer based system and this will continue into 2001-2002 when we should see the accounts of the Club incorporated into the system, making life easier for both the Secretary and the Treasurer. The Hills Clubs, as a group, sponsored the U-Turn-The-Wheel Driver training program for secondary school students, which was an extremely successful operation, and seems likely to become an annual event. Community Service saw many members actively involved with our local Community and our efforts were very gratefully received by the communities at Nordby, Inala and Ronald McDonald House. We have acquired a very accomplished team of paving layers and painters, who are looking for more work in the next Rotary year. On a Vocational front we had vocational visits, Vocational awards, Apprentice of the Year and Livewire participants. The Youth program, including the arrival of our Exchange Students from Brazil and New Zealand, continued to involve members of the Club with our youth. The new State Government legislation has been causing some concern but the Risk Management plans proposed by District look as though they will help in this area. The year saw quite a large number of people away for quite some considerable amounts of time which meant that some of the Club meetings attracted a much smaller attendance than usual. There is a real requirement in the next year to embark on programs that will attract more members to the Club, if we are to continue to provide the services we do to both the local and overseas communities. This year we received a visit from our special New Guinea project, Wesley Koni. President – Jim Kehoe

Our aim from the start was to have a vibrant Club, one that was doing things and having fun. We have done both of those! We have had working bees at Inala and Jamieson House, the West Pennant Hills Sports Day, Inala Fete, Chinese Lantern Festival, the Garage Sale, the Trailer Raffle, Bowelscan, Tree of Joy, Ronald MacDonald House, the Seniors’ Christmas party and Nordby picnic. We also had fun starting with Christmas in July, numerous partner’s nights including the debates, Christmas Party on the Nepean River, “Sopwith” social night, two weekends away, a fabulous Conference in Dubbo and a tremendous 15th Anniversary reunion night. We have also taken part in numerous Rotary events including District Changeover, interclub visits with Pennant Hills and North Rocks, vocational visits, a visit to Donations in Kind and the Charter Night for the new model Club, the Hills Rotary Club. Club Service Director, Dick Bushell, has done a fabulous job this year. In addition to attending to all the Club functions effectively and efficiently he has been the Bulletin Editor and has done a tremendous job. I have really appreciated Dick’s assistance as it has made my job a lot easier. Youth Service Director, George Beyrouthi, is unstoppable. If there is something available for youth George wants our Club to do it. Youth Exchange, Shell Livewire, MUNA, RYLA, Summer Science School and George’s pet, From Russia with Love. Community Services Director, Alan Paynter, has kept us busy this year with his ‘Ground Farce’ projects at Inala and Jamieson House. It’s great to see how much can be done with a little thought and lots of manpower. Alan also ran the Tree of Joy this year, which was a great success, along with the other various community projects. Vocational Services Director, Tony Makin, and International Services Director, Barry Freeman, also contributed to a successful year with outings and discussion on various topics in their disciplines. Club Secretary, Keith Ball, and Treasurer, Rod Crosweller, have kept the records straight and their finances in place for the year. President - David Turnbull

We started the year with our Christmas in July progressive dinner. Then came our wonderful Fabulous 50’s night, which we held in conjunction with the Inner Wheel Club of The Hills. A Club Weekend away at Blackheath and a great Christmas function at The Entrance finished off the first half of the year. We had several rounds of friendship dinners, terrific fellowship at the District Conference, and who can forget our “Beatles” night at the Zoo. For those of us who were lucky enough to attend the RI Convention in Brisbane, the Club fellowship was an absolute highlight. We also enjoyed a theatre outing to see “Leader of the Pack”. Our “back to committees” campaign has grown from strength to strength with all facets of the Club run by effective Committees and most members involved. Our Fundraising activities exceeded all expectations raising a net $25,000 for the year. The Garage Sale raised around $10,000 with the Trailer Raffle raising almost $12,000. Our Bulletin has been absolutely fantastic thanks to Denis who also organised our great program. We also had three enjoyable joint meetings with neighbouring clubs including the nights with Jon Konrads and Barbara Holbrow as well as our Melbourne Cup night. We welcomed five new members, Graham Miller and Sandy, Tim Bickford & Sharon, Rob Wansbrough & Anne, Tim Bowland & Alison and Chris Old & Susan. We lost Erik Lindstrom and farewelled Theo and Gwen Taylor and made Theo an Honorary Member. Our membership increased by a net three members. Our Community programs included finishing the Jamieson House project, Tree of Joy, our Senior’s Christmas lunch, Bowelscan, Nordby picnic day and thanks to Col Gage, the inaugural Cherrybrook Chase Fun Run in just over two weeks time. We also got the new Probus Club of West Pennant Hills up and running thanks to the hard work of Bob Crabb and Gary Blackler. Our Youth programs included exchange student Anja Hoefelmeir from Germany, outbound student Cash Bazil to Austria, Fabian Watson to the National Youth Science forum, Matthew Alexander to RYLA, two students to RYPEN, and three teams from CTHS to MUNA. Our Club has also accepted the challenge to organise the MUNA program for the next two years. Members of our Club also actively supported the U-Turn-The-Wheel program. Our Club was awarded a District Certificate of Merit for our Youth Program through the year. Well done George. We actively participated in the Shell Live Wire programme. We presented Pride of Workmanship awards to Willy Truelove from Atour, Robyn Spindler from Mc Beath Pharmacy and Greg Parsons, a local mechanic. We also had a great Vocational visit to Rob Wansbrough’s Vet Clinic. President – Dick Bushell

This year the Club recognised Richard Bushell and Gary Blackler with Paul Harris Fellowships. The strength of the Club comes from the fellowship of its members and at no time was this more evident than when the Club faced up to the hard decisions of changing our name and venue. This saw us move from Springfield to the Burning Log at Dural, and Cherrybrook being added to our name. We held the inaugural Cherrybrook Chase Fun Run and started planning for next year’s run anticipating this will become an annual event. Community Service activities included the joint project with Glenhaven Rotary Club which saw us repaint a nine bedroom group home at Inala and a Christmas Luncheon organised for a group of mentally disabled people. We also initiated planning for the Club’s Centenary of Rotary Project to landscape the area adjacent to the Cherrybrook Guide Hall. The Tree of Joy was bigger and better than ever this year and continues to grow each year. We held two Nordby Picnic outings at the Rotary Kokoda Park at Concord. Our two stalwart fundraisers in the Garage Sale and the Trailer Raffle were again held. The Garage Sale raised $9,000 in spite of the howling gale and the Trailer Raffle returned $10,800. We lost four of our members during the year including Charter member, Bob Crabb, but we gained five new members in Barry Lambert, Colleen McIntyre, Colin Baxter, Colin Wright and Anthony Scarcella. Our social activities included a Christmas in August, several dinner and theatre outings, a Christmas luncheon function as well as dinners at St Ives and the local Sports Club. We also added a Bush Walk, a Melbourne Cup function, Car Trial and picnic and District Conference to our social activities. We continued our tradition at District Conference by winning the theme prize with Alan Paynter’s Landrover and Safari theme. We held vocational visits to Clarendon Homes and the new car showrooms of Barry Smith Holden. We also held a dinner to recognise three local apprentices. We held several International nights through the year and three of our members joined a FAIM team to Vanuatu. Youth activities supported RYLA, RYPEN, Youth exchange and NYSF. We also held the Annual Inter-School debate as well as supporting RYDA and active involvement in the Shell Livewire project. Our Club also organised the District MUNA project this year led by George Beyrouthi which saw over 50 schools participate in this excellent two day program. President - Brian Furrer

In commencing the year we were meant to “Celebrate Rotary” which was the Centenary theme. We also focussed on Recruitment, Recognition and Contribution. This year we inducted four new members but lost three members bringing our Membership up to 40. This fell short of our goal but still increased our Membership in a time when many other Clubs were shrinking. We ran two Membership nights and appointed a new Membership Director, Alan Paynter, bringing this important role up to Board level. We continue to recognise people in our community as well as the Pride of Workmanship Awards. We raised $21,300 in four days at Cherrybrook Village and sent the funds to the Rotary Club of Patong Beach where they have been effectively used to help rebuild a village, build new fishing boats and in a number of family situations. We end this year with a greater awareness of the Rotary Foundations. As a Club, we contributed more to the Foundation this year than any previous year as well as holding a number of talks on the Foundation to help our members better understand it. We held a Trivia night and a number of our members enjoyed a weekend away at Mudgee. We held three rounds of Friendship Dinners. We welcomed new members Greg Pidgeon, Peter Garnett, Colin McGowan and Clive Denmark but said farewell to Colin Gage, Sheila Turner, Bob Smith and Denis Carpenter. Community Service projects included The Tree of Joy, BowelScan, Cherrybrook Chase, Christmas Trees, erecting Banner Poles in the WPH Valley, Oakhill Drive Public School Landscaping, Inala School Fete, Red Shield Appeal, Ronald McDonald House BBQ and Nordby Picnic. We also continued with our Centenary of Rotary Project which is the landscaping of the area adjacent to the Cherrybrook Guide Hall. Our International activities included the Tsunami activities already mentioned as well as sending several teams to Vanuatu and providing funding for the Malaria nets project. We had vocational visits to the SES facility at Thornleigh and Harvey World Travel at Cherrybrook. We also presented four, Pride of Workmanship Awards. On the Youth front, we participated in RYLA, NYSF, RYDA, Operation Hope and RYPEN. We also said farewell to Exchange Student Juliana Penz from Austria and welcomed Eoy Suwapan from Thailand. We also sent Ilana Idurus out to Austria. President – Barry Freeman

Upon my return from the Rotary International Convention at Chicago (June 2005), I carried with me RI President, Carl-Wilhelm Stenhammer’s, suggestion that we enthusiastically adopt the Rotary motto of “Service Above Self”. Our primary focus was to serve our immediate Community. The proceeds from funds we raised through Cherrybrook Chase, Trailer Raffle, Garage sale, Christmas Trees, Mitre 10 BBQ’s and the Fundraising Ball supported many projects throughout the Community as well as supporting the Rotary Foundation and the Rotary Health Foundation. We participated in the Youth Exchange program (both in-bound and out-bound), we organised MUNA in June 2006 and we organised the Bright Spark program which picked up from the discontinued Shell Live Wire program. We also introduced risk management policies across most of our activities for the first time. We again ran the Tree of Joy and Cherrybrook Chase, Christmas Trees, Centenary Project at the Guide Hall as well as participating in BowelScan, Inala School Fete, Red Shield Appeal, Ronald McDonald House BBQ and the Nordby Picnic. This year the Board nominated The Rotary Foundation as one of the main benefactors of our Fundraising. Ground work was done to establish a sister Club relationship with Patong Beach. We had several interesting Vocational visits and had a good series of job talks. With Youth exchange, we saw our outbound student Ilana Idrus return from Austria in January. We hosted Thai student, Eoy Suwapan. We also supported RYLA, School debating competition, Operation Hope, Rotaract, RYDA, NYSF, Honeywell Engineering and Science Summer School and MUNA which we ran for the second year. The positions of Membership Director and Fundraising Director were ratified by the Board and became full voting members of the Club Board. President – George Beyrouthi

The 2006-07 Rotary Year was another successful one for our Club culminating in being selected for a Presidential Citation by Rotary International President W.B. (Bill) Boyd for our efforts to “Lead the Way” in our community. Eligibility for the Citation includes achieving growth in membership targets (which we comfortably exceeded) significant performance in all Avenues of Service and the selection and completion of a new project. These objectives along with others are embodied in the ten Key Objectives we set for ourselves in our Club Plan and which I am happy to report have all largely been achieved. The Directors’ Reports which follow expand upon these achievements. During the year the Board has continually discussed and sought feedback on the Club’s performance from members through the formal Club Assembly process as well as publication of the minutes from the monthly Board meetings. Completion of the initiative to support the actions of Riding for the Disabled at Box Hill was a particularly rewarding experience for all of us. Through a combination of fund raising and physical exertion on site, our Club was able to install holding yards for the horses between lessons and the provision in the viewing area of benches and a table for parents and carers to use, thereby making a significant contribution to the facilities being built at what will be R.D.A.’s major centre in N.S.W. Whilst this initiative consumed a major share of the proceeds from our fund-raising activities we were still able to provide support to our more traditional forms of need in the community as well as The Rotary Foundation, our Youth, Vocational and International activities. This was greatly helped by the support we received this year from the philanthropic fund of Trust Company Ltd. Financially the Club’s position appears to be in a healthy state for the beginning of the forthcoming year. I am particularly pleased with the results of our focus and achievements in relation to membership growth. Fellowship in our Club remains strong and continues to be the backbone of our Club’s health and viability. To this end, I have been particularly pleased with this year’s Club Programme. The Club also celebrated its 20th anniversary during the year. I wrote in the Commemorative Booklet issued for the occasion that we are bonded together in the pursuit of the Objectives of Rotary and guided in those pursuits by The Four Way Test. To continually comply with this business model for 20 years through changing times and not only remain viable but grow as a club, is truly remarkable. We still have Charter members participating in our Club and many who no longer serve as members but nevertheless remain loyal and who continue to take an interest in our Club’s progress. Much of the strength of our Club still comes from the quiet and effective support our partners provide in the implementation of our activities. I wish to thank them personally for their contribution. May I also thank the Directors for the manner in which they have performed their tasks in the discharge of their responsibilities and the unselfish support they have provided to me during the year. Finally, I wish to say ―thank you to all of the Club members who gave me the chance to be your President for the 2006-07 year. I have enjoyed the experience. President – Colin Baxter

• we have achieved a net increase of 2 members

• supported Australian Rotary Health Research Fund (ARHRF) with a donation of $1000

• supported the Rotary Foundation with a Club donation of $2140 (2 PHF) as well as a number of individual donations through Centurion and direct giving avenues

• supported two major charities (Wheelchair Foundation and Camp Breakaway) with donations of $3000 each

• raised funds for the ShelterBox program for Burma Other funds went to Bowelscan, Youth Exchange,Muna, Nordby, RYDA, RYPEN, Siemens Summer School,Wesley Koni, Rural Fire Service. Our fundraising activities included Trailer Raffle,Garage Sale, Bunnings BBQ's, Spring Dance, Wine Sale and bucket collection at Cherrybrook Village for Burma. The Tree of Joy at Cherrybrook Village was again a huge success. During the year we welcomed Gino Savio, Carol Russell, Julie Constable, Prue Daras, Tom Westcott and Bob Myers. We will miss those members who have left us this year- Jim Kehoe, Brian Brett, Ross Parkinson. We will all remember our Christmas Luncheon trip to Kurmond on December 9th not for the food but for the aftermath- the hailstorm and consequential damage. Thanks to my board members for all their work and support throughout the year. A special thanks to all the partners for the support they provide to the members in all our activities throughout the year and for their attendance at meetings and functions. I must thank Helen for her patience and support through the year and in particular catering for Board meetings and organising the partners dinner functions through the year. Finally I wish Tim and Alison good luck for the coming year.

I would like to thank all members and their partners for their support during the year and to Alison who conducted several partners’ nights and was my sounding board and adviser. Thanks to my board members for their support and to all those who actively contributed to the running of the club. Thank you to Larry Jacka who was my mentor for his support. You have all made it a fantastic year. Be proud of our Club and its achievements. I have recalled a few achievements for you to reflect on.

• Receiving our Authority to Fund Raise, has overcome a threat to our viability.

• Raising money through sponsorship added greatly to the success of our programs

• Our net increase of 4 members (6 gross) has exceeded our targets.

• Our retention of members was very high. Showing us that we have a healthy Club.

• Exceeding our targets for fund raising allowed us some latitude for extra giving.

• Raising $37,000+ to help the Victorian bush fire victims has been a highlight

• Contribution of $4000 to Lucas Gardens School met our target

• Contribution of $4000 to Rotary Foundation met our target

• Financial contribution to ROMAC currently $2000

• Our Promotion of our Club activities in the press has been a record.

• The development of an active web site. We won the Best Website in the District Award

• The quality of our meetings, venue and guest speakers has been high.

• The success of our club projects undertaken during the year was high with record earnings.

• Our active and quality social program has helped make our club vibrant and fun to belong too.

• We had a female sergeant raising the profile of women in our club.

• We established a Long Term Plan for the club has given us a vision for the future.

• The purchase of a BBQ and promotions trailer.

• The replacement of shade sails at Ronald McDonald House Westmead.

• Our Youth programs have been a dominant part of our clubs activities during the year.

• Our International activities have jumped to a new level with Club projects.

• We made Pride of Workmanship awards and enjoyed some outings.

• The female members and female partners ran a very successful meeting on the 11th May and a subsequent Biggest Morning Tea raising $661.70 for cancer research.

• We have taken up the challenge to help ‘Warrah’ with maintenance work and other activities. We raised $948.60 at our first BBQ to raise money to assist them.

• We established permanent credit card payment facilities within the Club. It was with great sadness that we farewelled PP Trevor Turner (Charter President) in December 08. Trevor will be sadly missed by the Rotarians that knew him and his family. The board has decided to have a perpetual memorial shield in Trevor’s honour, which will be awarded to a new member each year for their contribution to Rotary and our Club. We said farewell to Julie Constable during the year. Julie moved to Port Macquarie and Rotary there is richer for her presence. We welcomed six new members during the year, Rob Hamer, Hany Gerges, Rosemary Clarke, Channa Jayasuriya, Toni Trumm and Graeme Yeates. President - Tim Bowland

Sincere thanks to all Directors, members and their partners for all their support during the year 2009/2010 also Margaret, a big thank you for her support during this year. We achieved all our targets except for membership we ended up square, lost 3 members and gained 3 members but have a few in the pipeline for the next President. We exceeded our targets for fundraising. We raised $39,000 plus, which was very good. Our main recipients of our fundraising were Prostate Cancer Research, Warrah, Rotary Foundation and many youth projects, plus others. We have put aside $9000 plus, for next year’s Board to insure they have a good start as these reports are done early we still have $8000 to distribute but we are waiting on final outcome of our claim to insurance company before we distribute this amount to other charities. Our Club, through Larry Jacka has promoted our Club and the Rotary Brand through the press at every opportunity. Our website and Bulletin has been again great. Thanks to Dick Bushell and we received an award from district for our Bulletin this year, Congratulations Dick. The quality of our meetings, venue and guest speakers has been high. The success of our club projects was high with a new one in a Golf Day, also very successful this year. Our active and quality social program has helped make our Club vibrant and fun to belong. The last couple of years we have established a long term plan and has given us good vision for future of the club. Again our Youth programmes have been a dominant part of our clubs activities during the year giving us a good link into the local community through youth programmes. Our International section has been busy with sending containers to Vanuatu and shelter boxes to Hatia. Our Pride of Workmanship award night went well also our outings for fellowship and members job talks. The new members for the year we welcomed Sandy Burrage, Max Henderson and Kumar Fernando, these people have fitted very well into our club and it is a pleasure to have them. All in all, a very good and successful year for our club and its members. Congratulations to Graham and Judy Cuthbertson and our new Board. I am sure they will enjoy the year like I have done. I have thoroughly enjoyed the year and its challenges and rewards. President - Graham Evans

In looking back at our Club Plan I presented a year ago the objectives were to continue the traditional activities while developing the club to be able to move forward into the future. I believe we were successful in doing this throughout a very busy year in fundraising, fellowship and club activities and having some fun along the way. Early in the year, thanks largely to the efforts of President Elect Colin McGowan and Malcolm Cameron, we were successful in our insurance claim. This lifted a burden off the shoulders of the club on the whole and allowed us to move forward with a lot more confidence. Of the funds received, $25,000 was distributed to the Victorian Bushfire Appeal and $9000 each was distributed by Past Presidents Tim Bowland and Graham Evans to their nominated charities. The balance of the funds received, $50,000, has been retained in the club accounts. This distribution list can be seen at the end of the Treasurer’s Report. As a whole, the club had a record year collecting over $75,000 through direct fundraising. All our traditional events were very successful except for the Trailer Raffle which was significantly down on previous years. Moving the time smoothed out the program but did not help in collections. The club is always looking for new fund raising activities and this year we had success with the Book Fair and two new sausage sizzles at the Porsche Club Day and the Home Show. We now have a very busy fund raising program throughout the year which gives the club a good base for the future. The club’s success comes from its membership and we now have 48 members having inducted 4 new members and losing 3. Everyone in the club contributes to the program in their own way and their combined efforts have made the club what it is today. A number of milestones have been reached this year. David and Jill Turnbull having broken the $20,000 barrier have stood down as the Garage Sale organisers after 12 years. Dick Bushell, after 18 years in the club is moving on to other things– he will be missed and Keith Ball is retiring as our Club Secretary after 11years. Our success is seen at conference, this year we had 32 members all dressed as Kenny and our grand entrance into the Conference centre with Chiara gracing the Port-a-loo stole the show, we won the best dressed prize again for the eleventh year in a row. This continuity has happened because of the attitude of the members and their willingness to pitch in and help with a little bit of creativity on the side just to make it interesting. It certainly makes it fun to be a member of the club with some of the madcap ideas we have had at conference over the years. I could continue at length in this fashion but to sum up we have achieved our goals with a successful and busy club throughout the year. The success is because of the attitude of our members and their willingness to help in whatever way they can. I would, in closing, like to thank all the members and their partners for their participation and help throughout the year, particularly my board which has been extremely helpful and supportive. I am confident that the strengths of the club will carry it forward to a success future. I would be remiss, of course, if I did not thank Judy for her tremendous support throughout the year. She has had her own share of challenges but has always been there to help out. I could not have done it without her.

Welfare Officer Stan Baseley It is my pleasure to present this President’s Report on the 25th Anniversary of our Club. This silver anniversary is a great opportunity to look back at our heritage and our many accomplishments here at home and overseas. I welcome all members and guests to this reuniting of friendships dinner occasion. Our Club membership currently stands at 46, the fourth largest of the 66 Clubs in our District. From July 2013 our District will be reconstituted as Rotary District 9685 (currently 9680) with 13 Clubs added and the District’s reach extending to the foot of the Blue Mountains. Membership is a major focus of RI and all Clubs-with an emphasis on recruiting younger members. It is with sadness that I report we lost a very fine member, Graham Yeates, in July 2011. The strength of our Club has always been in the willingness of members (and especially their partners) to contribute to our many activities. Having fun has always has been an important part of our Club. This year we’ve had an active social program thanks to the great organisers who run our fun factory side of things. We celebrated Christmas in July at Springfield House and Christmas again at the Castle Hill County Club, a New Year dinner at Geranium Cottage and a Spring Dance featuring The Beatnix at the Epping Club, two dinner /theatre nights at Castle Hill, a Melbourne Cup night, two after event dinners at Biviano’s and Eastern City Restaurant, theatre in the park at Brooklyn, dinner at Oatlands Golf Club and shortly a weekend away to the Hunter Valley on a “Horse and Coal” tour. We’ve also been busy doing our “Rotary” things. From an operational perspective we have had to find a new way to run our major fund raising activities following some member movements. We have done this by having more than one champion for each major project- particularly in the lead up stage. This has proven to be reasonably successful, but still needs further development. Some of the Community Activities this year included DIK, Tree of Joy, Burnside Centenary BBQ, Ronald McDonald House meal, BBQ at Nordby and then later in the year a picnic at Kokoda Memorial Park, clean up of Cherrybrook Guides grounds, Bowel Scan kit sales at Cherrybrook Village and the Red Shield Appeal coming up shortly. Fund Raising included our traditional Bunning’s BBQ’s at Dural and Thornleigh, our Garage Sale at Cherrybrook RFS which although being washed out on the Sunday still managed to gross $17,500, a combined Golf Day with Hunters Hill Rotary Club which grossed $3,400 (our share), Chinese Lantern Festival BBQ, Porsche Car Club weekend BBQ at Homebush, Book Fair at Cherrybrook Church which despite atrocious weather over the two days still managed to gross $8,700, Hills Home Show BBQ weekend where we had fine weather at last and grossed a fantastic $6,000. Our gross revenues (on a hard cash basis) from all our fund raising events this year will amount to around $36,000. Youth is a major focus and we continue to be involved in Youth Exchange (inbound Louise Lastein from Denmark and outbound Caitlin Gilchrist to Spain), Youth Debate, 4 Way Speaking Competition, RYLA, RYPEN, NYSF, MUNA, RYDA plus a Rotary themed school Art competition which involves a number of schools and supportive sponsors’. The major Charity we are supporting this year is the Black Dog Institute. The other charities include Operation Hope, Lifeline, ShelterBox, Warrah Special School at Dural which caters for children and adults with physical and mental impairments and the Rotary Foundation as well as school prizes for 3 local schools and financial support for Scouts Guides and RFS. Oh Yes. We once again won 1st Prize for best dressed award at the District Conference in Wollongong-dressing to the theme of a “Masked Ball”. Lucille Ball masks and red wigs with a Mask in front did the trick! President - Colin McGowan

This year was another very successful year with both its challenges and successes. Although membership has dropped, we continue to be a vibrant Club. Another successful year of fundraising ($48,036). Management of our accounts during the year was simplified by the superb reporting Treasurer Ian that built on procedures previously implemented by Carol. Sadly our Club membership dropped to 37. Youth had a very successful year with participation in nearly every program our District runs. Some of the Community Activities this year included Tree of Joy, Wesley Dalmar BBQ, Ronald McDonald House meal from the Heart, Chinese Lantern Festival, clean up of Cherrybrook Guides grounds, Bowel Scans kit sales at Cherrybrook Village and the Red Shield Appeal. In addition we had two painting weekends at Warrah.

International had several DIK working bees, including the loading of containers on two different occasions. Vocational had three deserving Pride of Workmanship awardees in June.

Social activities are a very important part of the Club. Colin Wright, Carol Russell and their committee organised many activities including Christmas in July at Springfield House then the real Christmas at the Castle Hill County Club, a New Year dinner at Geranium Cottage, a Melbourne Cup night and a picnic at Fagan Park. We had after event dinners at SEAT and Eastern City Chinese Restaurant, and dinner at Oatlands Golf Club. We missed out on a weekend away since many members were travelling and we didn’t have the numbers to make it cost effective.

We kept up the Club reputation at District Conference (Nowra) by winning the best costume prize (knights at the museum”) and Miska won the paper plane throwing competition. Rob Hamer did a fantastic job of organising our Club program with a great line up of speakers during the year. At one meeting, we had Daniel and William Clarke talking about “Tears in the Jungle” to which we invited other clubs—this was a brilliant fundraiser towards the protection of Orang-utans in Borneo.

Our Club makes things happen and I thank all of you for making my year successful. I especially thank my wife Beverley. During the year Bev and I were also Student Coordinators on the District Youth Exchange committee – Bev did most of the work. She worked tirelessly on many of the above projects, organised partners nights and generally helped me through my year as President.

From July 2013 our District will be reconstituted as Rotary District 9685 (currently 9680) with 13 Clubs added and the District’s reach extending to Lithgow (“from the Mountains to the Sea”).

My main objectives was

to place an increasing

focus on replacing members who retire or move away, with new active members. Club

membership had declined from mid 40’s three years ago to around 37 at the beginning of the year. We put together a varied programme of speakers who would appeal to

members and visitors alike, and encouraged all members to bring visitors along to

meetings. A “Showreel” showcasing our range of activities, which was launched at the

Garage Sale. Two special meetings warrant mention. Dianne Ryall spoke at the club’s

first Business Networking meeting, at which owners of local businesses were invited

and given 3 minutes to promote their businesses. A number of these visitors have

attended further meetings, agreed to sign up as Friends of Rotary and a couple have helped at fundraising activities. Nick Farr Jones, the ex- Wallaby Captain, was another

guest speaker. We gained three new members in the second half of the year.

The club’s Fundraising Activities are an important part of the club’s operation as they

involve the majority of members and a large number of partners in the lead-up, the

days of the Sales and in the social dinner afterwards.

Community Service Activities are at the very heart of all good rotary clubs. Annual events, such as the Tree of Joy, the roast dinner provided for residents at Ronald

McDonald House and the BBQ for residents of the Anglican Retirement Homes were

well received.

A wide range of youth activities, including youth exchange RYLA, RYPEN, NYSF and

RYDA were undertaken.

A visit to Vanuatu by a team of members and partners to do hands-on international work at a local school. Tony will give a short presentation promoting our special

Vanuatu night in July.

The year finished with the International Convention in our own city and many club

members and partners participated by attending, volunteering or home-hosting

overseas and interstate visitors and exchange students.

I’d like to thank Jen for her support and forbearance, especially during the time I was

running my third (and last) Book Sale! It remains for me to thank the members who helped run the club. Barry Lambert

(Secretary), Ian Roberts (Treasurer) and to Brian Furrer who ably filled-in when Ian

was away. Rob Hamer for providing a range of varied and interesting guest speakers,

My second time as President. I have loved this year’s Rotary International tagline of “Light up Rotary”. We have lit a candle at every Rotary meeting to remind us that we can all do something to make this world a better place. We have had 2 real themes this year as a focus for the Club and they were “Happiness in the club” and “Support of our local community”. These two themes have sustained us through the year with a couple of highlights in support of them. Happiness in the Club. . We were very fortunate this year to create the group we have called the PRT (Partner Representative Team) made up o Jill Turnbull, Pamela Makin, Margaret McGowan and Gwen Baxter who made up the PRT this year have done a fabulous job of enlivening our special nights and, through their counsel, of giving me the feedback of how the club is running from a partner’s perspective. I thank you all, ladies, for your great support this year. Through a mixture of good speakers, special partner’s nights, some rearranging of our layouts, a wonderful social plan and activity during the year and a lot of enthusiasm by our club members in supporting all that we do, I do think we end the year on a Happy note. Support of our Local Community. Much has been done in one year in respect of our activity, both in Fund Raising and then in the very wide use of our funds to support many activities and organisations. We have achieved a huge amount in this regard. Membership. We have inducted 4 new members in Andrew Little, Daniel Tan, Nick Chuah and John Tchetchenian. We have lost Larry Jacka (a huge loss as our friend and our PDG), Rob Hamer (a great member of the club has left us with poor health) and Bob Meier. This means we end the year with one more member that we started the year. I would now like to thank every member of my team this year. I really appreciate all the effort you have all put into the year. We all lead pretty busy lives and I know the amount of work it takes in each of our portfolios in order to get the job done….lots of meetings, lots of communication, lots of thought and lots of physical work. Thank you all for your support this year. I appreciate it greatly. President Barry Freeman

Having 3 of us was a challenge at times, but certainly 3 pairs of hands are better than one, and we managed to get through the year and tick most of the boxes. We said we would operate as “one voice” and we have done our best to achieve that. Our number one focus for 2015/2016 was “Membership” and we have come a long way in a year. We have a new website, a rejuvenated Facebook page, a slideshow, a new flyer and every member has business cards as a way of promoting this great club of ours. Lastly, we have appointed for the first time a Director of Marketing to the board in 2016/17 to continue promoting our club within the community, building sponsorship and membership. Our nett membership increased in the 12 months period. We have sadly said goodbye to the Wrights and Lamberts and Burrages, but have welcomed the Hansens, Craigs and Stantons to our club. The major beneficiaries of our fund raising efforts are: Operation Hope, Shine for Kids; Books in Homes; and Lynch Syndrome Australia. Our club received its first Rotary District Grant of $3,000 to supplement our collection of $4,000 to help people in Fiji recover from the devastation of Cyclone Winston. The club also sought and received a $4,000 Government Grant for purchase of computer equipment. Our theme for this year was “Be a Gift to the World” and as such, we completed a long list of community service projects during the year. These included the Inala Fresh Food Month, West Pennant Hills School Spring Fair, Warrah Community Open Day, The Hat Day in aid of Mental Health Awareness and The Tree of Joy, Cooking a meal at Ronald McDonald House and supporting the annual Red Shield Appeal. Once again our club supported a full range of Youth programs. We have fun and build great friendships whilst working hard to serve others. Our social program has been fabulous and there have been lots of great activities throughout the year. Our meetings throughout the year have been vibrant and interesting, thanks to the venue and catering, great speakers and smooth flowing agendas with fun activities and fine sessions. We would like to acknowledge the great work our PRT team have done in supporting our club. We would also like to personally thank each one of the Board Members for all their efforts and contributions to making the club successful. Presidents Cawas Sahukar, Teresa Janowski, Tony Coote.

2016/17

What an amazing year so far! The Rotary International theme of “Rotary Serving Humanity” has suited our club

well. Not only have we helped many organisations with practical help like Taldumunde, Tree of Joy, Red Shield Appeal, Ronald Macdonald

Meals from the Heart, seniors BBQ’s, tiling and racking at the Uniting Church, Donations in Kind(DIK) and West Pennant Hills School walkathon to mention a few, but we have also been able to donate to so many worthwhile charities such as the Murrin Bridge Project near Lake Cargelligo, Shine for Kids, Country Hope, Operation Hope, Wheelchairs Australia and many more. We really have been serving Humanity! Our meetings have had a great variety of speakers to inform us, entertain us and encourage us to do more in the community and our world. As well, we have had member talks and vocational visits. We have been able to continue with our wonderful Youth programs including inbound and outbound exchange students, representatives at RYLA, RYPEN and the Honeywell Science program. The Club held a very successful Trivia Night on Saturday 27 August 2016 at the Cherrybrook Community Centre, raising just over $5,000 towards the charities we support. We had a very successful Garage Sale on the weekend of 8/9 October 2016 raising a record gross of over $30k. The combination of good planning and benign weather contributed to this result. Our recent Book Sale was a huge success with just over $14,000 raised for our charities. This is all possible to the amazing board and club members who have worked tirelessly this year. We are indebted to our partners and sponsors who are always willing to support us in so many ways. The club has had a lot of fun and fellowship along the way which leads to a healthy club. We have been blessed to have 4 new members so far, Charlie McCarthy, Angelo Casemento, Riccardo Raad and Paul Laroumanie. The addition of young children has been a joy! The year is not yet over! We still have our Pride of Workmanship at the end of May, one more vocational visit and our Changeover on June 17th. What a year! What a privilege to be the president of such a fabulous club!
