SWNPHD and local partners continue to work to vacci- nate Nebraska residents age 18 years and older, with a goal of 70% of the population vaccinated against COVID-19. Per the Center for Disease Control’s Myth and Fact Sheet: Can a COVID-19 vaccine make me sick with COVID- 19? No. None of the authorized and recommended COVID-19 vaccines contain the live virus that causes COVID-19. This means that a COVID-19 vaccine cannot make you sick with COVID-19. All of the vaccines teach our immune systems how to recognize and fight the virus that causes COVID-19. Sometimes this process can cause symptoms, such as fever. These symptoms are normal and a sign that the body is building protection against the virus that causes COVID-19. Nebraska residents can register to receive COVID-19 vaccine at vaccinate.ne.gov, the official waiting list for the nine-county health district. Currently, persons are being vacci- nated in one week or less. If you do not have computer access, please call 308- 345-4223 to get on the waiting list. The statewide COVID-19 Risk Dial, based on the amount of hospital capacity used for COVID patients, is currently in the green level. SWNPHD continues to recommend wearing a mask in public, washing hands and surfaces often, and avoiding the 3 C’s: crowded spaces, close contact, and confined spaces. Per CDC guidelines, those who have been vaccinated do not need to mask when around others who have been vaccinated for COVID-19. SWNPHD had 9 new cases of COVID-19 reported from March 29 th to April 12 th . Keith County 3, Perkins County 2 and Red Willow County 4, bringing the total number of cased to 3788. UPDATE ON STATE’S CORONAVIRUS RESPONSE Governor Pete Ricketts held a press conference yesterday to provide an update on the State’s coronavirus response. He announced that the State will soon issue revised Directed Health Measures (DHMs). The updated DHMs will change the quarantine requirements for individuals who’ve recently received a positive anti- body test. Felicia Quintana-Zinn, Deputy Director of Public Health for the Ne- braska Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS), joined the Governor to share data confirming the safety and effectiveness of the coronavirus vac- cines. The Governor also announced two new initiatives the State is undertaking to support military families and veterans. Jason Jackson, Director of the Nebraska Department of Administrative Services (DAS), announced the launch of the State’s new Military Spouse Transition Program. The program helps military spouses iden- tify job leads in state government after moving to Nebraska. NEW TREATMENT CHAIRS New treatment chairs are in use for patients visiting the Outpatient Injection/ Infusion department. Community Hospital Health Foundation’s Board of Directors funded a grant to assist in the purchase of the new chairs. Additional bedside ta- bles will be ordered to go with the chairs. The treatment chairs recline, have heat in the base and back of the chair, and spin in all directions. Patients have been very complimentary of the new chairs, are excited about their ease of use and state they are “super comfy.” The nurses appreciate the chairs because they are less cumbersome and leave more room to work in the patient’s room. One patient com- mented that she sleeps “better in these chairs than my bed at home.” Other pa- tients have requested to take them home to replace theirs. With the number of patient visits varying between six and 25 each day, the chairs get a lot of use. Patient visits can last anywhere between 15 minutes to eight hours so patient com- fort is a priority. The Outpatient Injection/Infusion department staffs six compas- sionate nurses with special training to meet the needs of this complex patient popu- lation; works closely with the pharmacy, lab and radiology departments to provide all necessary services for the patient; and has nine treatment rooms for added privacy. Services include: intravenous access and therapy, chemotherapy and biotherapy for oncology patients, blood and blood product administration, wound care, telehealth, and patient well-being assessments.
