• A. It is a series of steps that scientists use to answer questions and solve problems.

Page 12: Turn in signed Rules & Procedures and pick up a textbook from the counter

• 1. Make an observation

• 2. Ask a question about the observation

• 3. Form a hypothesis to investigate the question

• 4. Conduct experiments to test the hypothesis

• 5. Analyze the results of the experiment

• 6. Draw conclusions from the experiments

• 7. Communicate the results

• Joe just bought an aquarium for his room. He filled the aquarium with water from the kitchen faucet. He put goldfish and guppies in the aquarium. Several days later, Joe noticed that all the guppies were dying but the goldfish were surviving. Put the steps of the scientific method to use in order to explain why this was happening.

• As you find your seat get out the Unit 1 Section 1 Notes on the Scientific Method that we started yesterday and all you people who do not watch the news prepare to be informed.

• 1. What’s going on in the world of Science?• 2. Finish Unit 1 Section 1 Fill-in notes• 3. Scientific Method Activity

• Watch this short video on the scientific method and answer the questions on your paper.

• 1. According to Tim & Moby, what is the scientific method?

• 2. What does Moby observe?

• 3. What is the question that Moby asks about his observation?

• 4. What is the hypothesis that Tim & Moby come up with?

• 5. Describe the experiment that Tim & Moby design to test their hypothesis? They have 4 healthy fig plants. Each plant will receive the same amount of light. The only variable is that each plant will receive a different amount of water. Plant 1 will get no water. Plant 2 will get water everyday. Plant 3 will get water three times a week. And, plant 4 will get water once a week. The experiment will last one month.

• 6. After one month the results of the experiment are analyzed. What are the results?

• Plant 1 - Plant 2- Plant 3- Plant 4-

• 7. What is the conclusion that Tim & Moby end up with?

• 8. What is the last step Tim & Moby must complete in order to finish the scientific method?
