FEAR NOT How do people find hope in the face of suffering and death? That is the question addressed by today’s scriptures. We hear of the suffering of Jeremiah and the psalmist. We hear of the death that “reigned from Adam to Moses” (Romans 5:14). We hear of the fears of the Twelve as Jesus sends them out into the world to preach and heal. Through all this tribulation one message rings out loud and clear—“Do not be afraid!” The God who saved Jeremiah and the psalmist and Jesus is fully present to save us through the gracious gift of Jesus Christ. We have nothing and no one to fear. Copyright © J. S. Paluch Co., Inc.
TODAY’S READINGS First Reading — The LORD has rescued the poor from the clutches of the wicked (Jeremiah 20:10-13). Psalm — Lord, in your great love, answer me (Psalm 69). Second Reading — The grace of God overflows for all (Romans 5:12-15). Gospel — All who acknowledge Jesus before others will likewise be acknowledged by Jesus before the Father (Matthew 10:26-33). ¡NO TENGAN MIEDO! No tenemos nada y a nadie a quien temer. Copyright © J. S. Paluch Co., Inc.
The English translation of the Psalm Responses from Lectionary for Mass © 1969, 1981, 1997,

Twelfth Sunday of Ordinary Time June 24, 2017 XII Domingo Ordinario-junio 24, 2017

How long has it been since Lent began? Weeks, even
months. Back at Ash Wednesday, we left Ordinary Time,
and with it, we set down the lectionary's sequential reading
of Matthew.
With this being Year A of the lectionary cycle, we're making
our way through Matthew, and in the next two years we'll
turn to Mark and Luke. (John gets time every year especially
during the Easter Season, with portions thrown into Year B
because Mark is so short.)
With our green vestments returning, we jump into Matthew
at Chapter 10, but in fact, we missed two passages of the
regular sequence over the last two Sundays. When we
celebrated the Solemnities of the Holy Trinity and the Body
and Blood of Christ we overlapped the Tenth and Eleventh
Sundays of Ordinary Time, which would have given us the
calling of Levi, Matthew, and Jesus' sending out of the
Twelve with authority over unclean spirits.
Those two readings form a marvelous introduction into
today's passage, where Jesus tells us: "Fear no one." The
Biblical message not to be afraid is fundamental to our
identity. But at the same time it's so contrary to our normal
tendencies it needs constant reaffirmation. With the call of
Matthew of the Tenth Sunday in Ordinary Time, we can see
that fear is overruled in the life of someone personally called,
mandated by God, as each of us are. With the Twelve's
receiving authority in the Eleventh Sunday, we catch a
glimpse of the authentic authority Jesus intends for us over
negative influences and the hostility of our enemy.
Today, Jesus tells us we don't have to be afraid, because
everything is being overturned by God. The entire structure
of reality, of society, of the world is being
rewritten. "Nothing is concealed that will not be
revealed, nor secret that will not be known," Jesus tells
us. There is no structure, no institution or power, that can
withstand the dominion Jesus wields. Even while the
shadows of the old order remain, we are called to live in the
confidence that this authentic sovereignty brings us: as
children of our Father, God is bringing about everything for
our good.
Fear no one. Jesus' command rewrites our conscious
experience because he introduces a power that is out of this
world, a power that now, in Him, lives within us.
¿Qué tanto hace que comenzó la Cuaresma? Semanas,
incluso meses.
No temer a nadie.

A Great BIG Thanks! For many years, Ray Buttacavoli has been our parish Sacristan. The definition of a sacristan is a person in charge of a sacristy and its contents. A better, comprehensive list of what Ray does for our parish can be found at the following web link: https://www.ewtn.com/library/Liturgy/zlitur184.htm. In addition to these duties, he also tends to our monitors in the vestibule areas and prepares our Mass announcements and Prayers of the Faithful.
