VIRTUS TRAINING CLASSES

Sr. Sophia Mbihije, CDMT, belongs to the Religious Congregation of the Daughters of Mary-Tabora, Tanzania. Currently, she is the Dean-Faculty of Education and Director of Post Graduate Studies at ArchBishop Mihayo University College of Tabora -Tanzania. Sister Sophia will be sharing

with us the work of the Daughters of Mary to continue their expanded ministry of teaching and caring for the children who are orphaned because of the growing AIDS epidemic. The Congregation of the Daughters of Mary, with its headquarters in the Archdiocese of Tabora was founded in 1933 by the Missionaries of Africa. It was established in response to the tremendous social, economic and spiritual needs of the local people. The Charisma of the congregation is love and service, and all the community members live their Charisma by engaging in different activities such as health care, pastoral ministry, social works, education, women and youth development. Education and healthcare services are particularly directed to rural areas where we serve poor nomadic people, orphans, and deaf children. One of these health centers is located at Endulen Village in the Ngorongoro Conservation area. Most of the people who are brought to the clinic are those attacked by wild animals such as: elephants, buffalo, lions, leopards, and snakes. Since most of these people walk between 9-10 miles to reach help, or use donkeys as their means of transportation, many patients lose their lives on the way to the clinic. The people who suffer the most are children and expectant mothers who die on the way to the clinic because of the lack of transportation. Pregnant women with a problem pregnancy also suffer the same. To meet the needs of patients who are in critical condition, we need an ambulance to speed transportation to proper and prompt care. We also have a critical need for hospital beds. Many times, patients are forced to share one bed and some sleep on the floor because of the shortage of beds. I invite you to be partners in the work of the Daughters of Mary, to make a difference in the lives of the suffering poor with your prayer and financial support. Your generous support will be used to build a well to be used to collect rain water for domestic uses at the school in Tabora Archdiocese. Your support and prayers are so much appreciated and will always be put to good use.

WE WELCOME YOU, SISTER SOPHIA, TO ST. BARNABAS PARISH!
