PARISH BULLETIN BOARD

Sean G. Ogle

FROM THE OGLE OFFICE Dear friends,

This weekend we observe “Catechetical Sunday”, marking the

start of religious education classes for our public school young-

sters. Once again our enrollment exceeds 300, one of the larger

counts in our area. I am grateful to our catechists who will be

commissioned at the 11:15 Family Mass, and especially to our

Coordinator of Religious Education, Nelly Gutierrez, who with

her assistant, Karen Rodriguez, works assiduously to make sure

our children receive the best formation and our catechists the

best support possible. I thank the parents for their diligence in

registering their children for classes.

A word of thanks also to our adult instruction teams: Robert

Salerni, Steven Towns and Bob Koch in English; and Jose

Sandoval, Miriam Montes and assistants in Spanish, for their

work with adults in the RCIA. We are blessed to have so many

dedicated catechists. We are always ready to welcome

additional catechists and aides, including high school students,

who might like to offer service to those learning the faith.

Remember: there’s no better way to learn something than to

help teach it!

Faith Formation is a life-long endeavor, not just for children or

new Catholics. Please remember to sign up for small group

Scripture discussions this weekend. The groups start the week of

October 1, and the orientation night will be Wednesday,

September 27. Please join us.

Everyone here is familiar with the beautiful statue of Our Lady

of Mount Carmel in Our Lady’s Garden between the rectory and

the school building. People have commented to me about the

fact that a portion of the hand and scapular were broken and

missing for many years. So I would offer a word of thanks to Mr.

John Sabini who recently repaired and restored the damaged

parts of the statue seamlessly. John has often used his

considerable skills to help us as a volunteer with many other

repairs and artistic touches here and at St Margaret Mary. God

bless you, John.

God love you,

Msgr. Sean G. Ogle

A MESSAGE FROM MR. NAWROCKI, PRINCIPAL ST. JOSEPH CATHOLIC ACADEMY

Bishop DiMarzio has aligned Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Parish with St. Joseph Catholic Academy to ensure that parents from OLMC have a choice to give their children the gift of a Catholic education. So as the new academic year begins, I want to express my gratitude to those of you who have made that choice and welcome back the current families to our Academy. Also, we welcome any new families from Our Lady of Mt. Carmel to join our Academy family. We still have available seats on several grade levels. This year eighteen children from Our Lady of Mt. Carmel are attending the Academy. At St. Joseph, we believe that education should address the needs of the whole child – spiritual, intellectual, emotional, social, and physical. Our offerings are varied and extensive, and you can learn more about them by visiting our web site at www.sjcalic.org. Each month in the weekly church bulletin, I will share some “Good News” about our students and programs. We are particularly excited this year to share news about our newly installed science S.T.E.M. (science/technology/engineering/mathematics) Lab that will provide weekly hands-on science lab experiences for all children in kindergarten through eighth grade. We are grateful to the diocese for making us one of only ten academies to be recipients of the $85K grant to establish the S.T.E.M. Lab. We are particularly grateful to Monsignor Ogle and the parochial

vicars for ministering to the pastoral needs of the children at the

Academy throughout the year. We begin the year with an opening

liturgy at St. Joseph Church on September 13, and will pray for all of

our students and their families that all experience a healthy

and successful academic year.

JOIN THE CHOIR Do you like to sing? Would you like to be more involved in your parish and in the liturgy? Think about joining the choir. Our wonderful parish choir will be accepting new members at their first rehearsal of the season, on Monday, September 25th, at 7:30 PM, in the lower church. There are no auditions. Every-one is welcome. If you have an ear for music and can carry a tune, you can sing in the choir. The ability to read music is a great asset, but is not a requirement. We will teach you every-thing you need to know. The main requirement is to attend the rehearsals every Monday at 7:30 PM to learn the music. All voices are needed - soprano, alto, tenor, and bass. Come and join this friendly group of people who enjoy singing together. New members are given a warm welcome. "The exercise of singing is delightful to nature, and good to pre-serve the health of man. It doth strengthen all parts of the breast, and doth open the pipes." - William Byrd (1543- 1623).
