SAFEGUARD THE CHILDREN

DID YOU KNOW The right kind of touch is impor-tant for children Children are often naturally affec-tionate and trusting, and this can lead to unexpected hugs or touches that indicate their love for the adults

in their lives. For adults who are aware that some touching can be inappropriate or can appear to be a boundary violation even though it was initiated by the child, it can be difficult to respond in these instances. Healthy, appropriate touch is im-portant for children. Use these instances as teachable mo-ments where you can affirm your affection in words and guide an appropriate touch by description and example. Some ex-amples of this could include patting a child on the shoulder or back, high fives, holding hands out of the classroom or when crossing the street, or helping a young child tie his shoe-laces. As part of our commitment, the Archdiocese has up-dated the www.archla.org/protect website with valuable infor-mation and resources on how to protect our children and young people from child sexual abuse.

CURSO DE INTRODUCIÓN A LA BIBLIA

De Lunes 9 a Viernes 13, a las 7:00 p.m. En el Salón de Jovenes.

WEEKLY MASS COLLECTIONS

Ustedes, en cambio, se han acercado a Sión, el monte y la ciudad del Dios viviente.

— Hebreos 12:22a

HUMILITY Humility is a virtue we don’t see much in our times. It seems that bragging, swaggering, and arrogance domi-nate our fashion for everything and our Internet conversa-tions. Who hasn’t been irritated by the “trolls” who try (usually with bad grammar and poor spelling) to start an online fight with those whose opinions do not align with theirs? Our stores, catalogs, and online shopping sites are full of useless items geared in use and price to the very rich, as ordinary, useful things seem to fade off the sales scene. As the rich get richer, the poor get poorer and the middle class is fading away. What is the antidote to this? Humility is a good place to start. Devotion to God is worth more than riches. “The father of orphans and the defender of widows is God in his holy dwelling. God gives a home to the forsaken; [God] leads forth prisoners to prosperity.”

TWENTY-SECOND SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME| SEPTEMBER 1, 2019 PAGE 6

May the peace and joy of God be with you and your family

as we celebrate Labor Day. It is a wonderful time of year to reflect and give thanks to all of Gods gifts that he has be-stowed upon us. Sometimes it is the simple things in life that we might take for granted. Take some extra time to give thanks to God and to help your neighbor. Life and love is a journey, make sure you treasure every moment.

I would like to take this moment to give thanks to all of the St. Linus Parishioners for your continued support over the years. All of you make St. Linus what it is today and where it is going in the future. As you all are aware and we had a tremendous response to our Capital Campaign program and I am extremely grateful for those that have responded with a gift or a pledge. If you have not made a gift or if you were not in a position to respond, you certainly can still contribute to the program. Based on the data that we have com-piled, it appears that we have an estimated shortfall of $200,000. We gathered this data by what was committed to us via a pledge and what is still yet to be collected. Your gift/pledge allows us to fulfill our capital campaign projects. If you don’t recall what your pledge amount was, please feel free to contact the office. If you had made a pledge and are not able to fulfill it due to circumstances in your life that is ok, however, I ask that you please contact me personally.

Again, I am very blessed to have such a wonderful and supportive parish and I personally thank you for all the sacrifices that you make for our parish.

As always, I will keep you and your families in my prayers.

Prayer for the Dignity of Work and the Rights of Workers Lord God, Master of the Vine-yard, How wonderful that you have invited us who labor by the sweat of our brow to be workers in the vineyard and assist your work to shape the world around us. As we seek to respond to this call, make us attentive to those who seek work but cannot find it. Help us listen to the struggles of those who work hard to provide for their families but still have trou-ble making ends meet. Open our eyes to the struggles of those exploited and help us speak for just wages and safe conditions, the freedom to organize, and time for renewal. For work was made for humankind and not humankind for work. Let it not be a vehicle for exploitation but a ra-diant expression of our human dignity. Give all who labor listening hearts that we may pause from our work to re-ceive your gift of rest. Fill us with your Holy Spirit that you might work through us to let your justice reign.

Amen.
