21 Days to Showtime! Our Oktoberfest Team of leaders have been doing a great job of getting us ‘geared up’ for our big festival. They make it easy for you to sign up to volunteer and donate items by having sign ups after Mass and online. Since there are almost 700 1-hour time slots needed for volunteers, we are hoping that many will offer to sign up for 2 hours of help. The online link to sign up was emailed to you on Friday or you may still stop by the tables after Mass this weekend. The other main way you can support the Oktoberfest is through our raffle. When I am passing out raffle tickets to my family and friends I remind them that this is a great ‘donation’ to the Church while also having a very good chance to win $10,000! The odds are just 1 in 250!! Compare that to winning the lottery of 1 in 292 million!! Think about making your own $100 donation to our parish for this great opportunity. The Little Otto tickets ($10) also give you five chances to win $150! Be sure and send the online raffle link (we sent to your email) to your family and friends out of town stclarechurch.weshareonline.org/oktoberfest. Lastly, take some extra flyers and tickets to your work place to help us market the event to the wider community. “May the Lord give success to the work of our hands” (Ps. 89) Fr. Jim Deiters Recent Deaths: Dolores Deeke, Mother of Father Von Deeke Bob Henry, Brother of Mary Ann Winans

May they rest in the peace of Christ. We continue to pray for all who have died and all who are mourning.

Voca on Corner

There can be no promotion of vocations or Christian mission apart from constant contemplative prayer. The Christian life needs to be nourished by attentive listening to God’s word and, above all, by the cultivation of a personal relationship with the Lord in Eucharistic adoration, the privileged “place” for our encounter with God…Mary Most Holy, the Mother of our Savior, had the courage to embrace this ideal, placing her youth and her enthusiasm in God’s hands. Through her intercession, may we be granted that same openness of heart, that same readiness to re-spond, “Here I am”, to the Lord’s call, and that same joy in setting out (cf. Lk 1:39), like her, to proclaim Him to the whole world.” Pope Francis, November 26, 2016

All new members must attend the visitor’s session on September 20.

Guatemala Corner: Did you know Guatemala is smaller than the state of Illinois? Illinois is 57,918 square miles, and Guatemala is 42,042 square miles, making it closest in size to the state of Tennessee (42,146 square miles). Guatemala also shares borders with Belize, Hon-duras, El Salvador, and Mexico.

Legislative Advocacy Join us on Sept. 16-17

after Mass to write to your Congressman

about proposed cuts

to International

Aid

• The US bishops call us to treat the US budget as a moral document that should promote the common good and protect the life and dignity of the least

• Currently, International Aid is 1% of the US Budget, but proposals include cutting this aid by anywhere from

12% - 31% this year • International Aid provides childhood vaccines, clean wa-

ter, refugee services, HIV treatment and natural disaster and health epidemic response for some of the poorest countries in the world

• Currently, 65 million people are displaced around the world and there is a famine in South Sudan, with three other countries on the brink of famine

• By addressing poverty, international aid also combats terrorism by limiting its breeding grounds

• Catholic Relief Services (CRS) is an organization that receives and implements US International Aid

Hurricane Harvey Collection: $5, 751.00 You may still donate if you were unable last

weekend. Details on our website.
