Division I Moves to Four Regions At its April meeting, the Ohio High School Athletic Association Board of Directors voted unanimously to change the playoff format in Division I, beginning with the 2016 season. The regional alignment in Division I will now be the same as Divisions II-VII, in that, each division is split into four regions, and the top eight teams in each region will advance to the post season. OHSAA Assistant Commissioner Beau Rugg commented that moving to four regions in Division I is a great decision. “First and foremost, it cuts down significantly on travel, especially in the first round. It also allows Division I to go back to having a true regional championship game in the third round, followed by the state semifinals.” In 2013, the OHSAA created an additional football division and put the largest 72 schools in Ohio into Division I, but only created two regions in the divi-sion. RUN & HIT PAGE 4 GAME 2 • TWINSBURG vs. SOLON / SEPTEMBER 2 SOLON COMETS

SUCCESSFUL DEBUT The Solon Comets started quickly on Friday night at Auro-ra and never looked back. Solon kicked off to start the game and the Greenmen fumbled the return. Solon took over and the scoring began. Taj Ward caught a nine yard pass from Joe Bubonics to put the Comets up 6-0. Bubonics scored the PAT with a three yard rush. Later in the first quarter, Bubonics hit Darryl Sinclair for a 37 yard score and found Jake McCurry for a 39 yard touchdown. Andy Baek was per-fect on extra point the entire night and after the first twelve minutes, Solon led 22-0. The Comets continued the scoring in the second quarter when Darryl Sinclair caught a 58 yard Bubonics pass. Not only were the Comets effective through the air, but the ground game was producing positive yardage as well. In the fourth quarter, Thomas Wilks went on a 40 yard run to setup a 1st and goal from the three. He ran it in for Solon’s fifth touchdown of the night. Defensively, the Comets held Aurora to 69 yards in the first half. Matt Brown finished the game with 14 tackles (6 assists, 3 solos, 5 TFLs) and two fumble recoveries. The game will replay on Time Warner Cable SportsChannel throughout the week. Check your local listings for times to watch Solon’s great Week One perfor-mance.

This week, Joe Bubonics is in conten-tion for a Cleveland.com Game Ball after his performance at Aurora last week. Bubonics started his first game at Quarterback and finished 12/17 with 251 yards and four touchdowns. Fol-low this link to vote for Joe! Click Here to Vote!

WHERE TO FIND THEM Four of Solon’s assistant coaches are stationed in the press box during games: Offen-sive Coordinator/RB coach Matt Richardson, Defensive Backs coach Dave Mortland, Quarterbacks coach Jake Voigt, and Defensive Backs coach Brian Wisniewski. The remaining members of the football staff join Coach McQuaide on the sideline.

WELCOME TO STEWART FIELD Great excitement is present in ath-letics whenever a team plays their first home game. For this edition of the Solon Comets, that game is Friday night. This group gets to play in front of their own fans on the field that they have used for prac-tice all summer. For some of these guys, this field is a lot more then the place they spent August mornings, it is where they clinched the inaugural Greater Cleveland Conference championship and won a playoff game. Some guys have seen their older brothers play on this field and now they get to add their mark to the history of Stewart Field. For other guys, Friday night will be the first time they wear the game uniform at Solon, after sitting in the stands as a Saturns player and then as a middle school player. Whatever your situation may be, as a coach in your tenth year at Solon, a parent who has seen their children in the band and now another as a football player, or maybe a teacher who has football trainers and cheerleaders in class, Friday night is a special night. Many people are involved with football games at Stewart Field and a lot of preparation takes place so that everything will go smoothly. Once the whistle blows at 7:00, all eyes are on the men in blue, the men who come home for their second game after a big win in the first week of the season. “We are thrilled to play at Solon on Friday night,” said Solon Head Coach Jim McQuaide. “We started the season very well last week at Aurora. Now, we need to continue to improve and get better. We know that Twinsburg will be ready to play on Friday. They are looking for their first win this year after a close game with Copley last week. We are committed to doing what we have to this week in practice to be prepared for Friday and we need our fans to be loud this week. Fri-day nights at Stewart Field are very special in Solon.”
