From the PresidentDearMembers,

SydneyU3Aissofortunatetohaveenthusiasticmemberswhovolunteerandcontributetheirexpertiseandskillsinavarietyofways.ItisuniqueIthink,amongstorganizationsandIthankyouallforyourhelp.Howeverwewould like towelcomemoremembers to our committees, to helporganise themeetings, to help in the office, to consider how best topublicise U3A ; leaders to introduce new courses, members to suggest what type of educational courses theywould like to have presented,committed members to consider new ideas, and a willingness of allmemberstoattendcourseswhichinitiallytheyknewlittleabout.Weareheretoshareknowledgenottolecture,buttoencourageawiderinterestin all topics.

At the recent U3A Showcase attended by a maximum audience in the CustomsHouseatCircularQuay, (somepeoplewhohadnotbookedwereturnedaway)welistenedtoourreallyprofessionalrecordergroup,weredelightedbytheU3Achoir,weheardtheworkofourpoetsandourwriters,lookedinaweatthemagnificentpaintingsanddrawingsofourmembers,admiredaTaiChidemonstration,applaudedthegreatdebateandwereentrancedbythedramaproductionofaplaywrittenbyourmembers.Howeverimpressive,itisstillonlyafractionoftheexpertiseandskillsofSydneyU3A.Pleaselookatthevarietyofcoursesinalltheregions,somemayseemsomedistanceawayfromhome,butmostareaccessiblebypublictransport.Dotrysomethingnew.

Onethingyoucandependupon,thefellowshipandfriendshipoflikemindedpeople,happytotalkanddiscussissues,oryoucanindeedsitandlistentotheideasofothers.Therearenohurdles,noquestions,notests,therewardsarenotdiplomasjustpureenjoymentandthechancetomeetnewfriends.Pleasebringyourfriendsandfamiliestoexperienceourwonderfulorganization.TheseniorwinneroftheShowcaseEssaycompetition,a16yearoldregrettedthewaythatpeoplenolongercommunicatefacetoface,shefeltthatmostpeoplereliedtoomuchontechnologyandspenttoomuchtimeonTwitterandFacebook.I’dliketothinkthatU3Amemberscontradictthiseverydayoftheweek.Wedotalkandshareexperiencesandtakeaninterestinalltheissuesoftheday.

InOctoberweareholdinganotherSydneywideeventintheCustomsHouse,Science, Economics and the Environment (seeenclosedflyer).Wehavearesponsibilitytolookatfuturetrends,ourexperienceoflifeisavaluableasset,weneedtobeinformedandtousetheknowledgewisely.Pleasebookearlyaswecanonlyaccommodate 160 members.
