When ON AN ON entered the studio to begin work on their new album, they brought a new approach to their song‐writing with them

"This is

"This

time

we

came

into

th

studio as a band," she says, alluding to their experience with their debut, which was recorded only weeks after the three members had

formed ON AN ON. "'Give In,' was us learning to think less and trust our instincts," she continues, "what you hear on that record is a ba

beginning."

If 'Give In' was the result of a band exploring their sonic horizons, and letting go of control while they figured out who they wanted to b

'And The Wave Has Two Sides' is the moment of clarity they came to as a result of that initial soul searching journey. A year and a half

playing shows in support of 'Give In' provided ON AN ON with time to examine how they wanted to expand and grow sonically, resultin

in more collaborative writing, and experimental live tracking. "Making another 'Give In' would have been the easy thing to do", explain

bassist Ryne Estwing. "This time we wanted to make something more direct and visceral." Vocalist/guitarist Nate Eiesland adds, "by

tracking everyone in the same room at one time, we tried to capture the interaction between the parts we were playing. There's a sub

energy to things that get recorded that way; a tension in the sound."

'And The Wave Has Two Sides' has already been met with early attention for the hauntingly suspenseful 'Drifting,' the first track releas

from the album. The music video for the song, has been praised by Stereogum for painting "nightmarish dreamscapes to reflect the fe

of loss that the song is rooted in." 'And The Waves Has Two Sides' is rife with those deeply cutting emotional moments, and just as ofte

buoyed afloat by the incredible pop instincts that were already ripening on their debut, and are delivered fully formed on songs like th

summer dance‐floor anthem "It's Not Over". The song "is about long‐term love. It's about regaining a sense of context to help in the

moments, or the seasons, of insecurity that are a part of loving someone forever", says Eiesland. "It's funny that the first two songs we

put out from this album are the ones that were the furthest from our comfort zone."

There’s no one way to describe Mas Ysa (pronounced maas ee‐sa). The creation of Canadian musician Thomas Arsenault embraces

cutting‐edge electronic music, but owes plenty to traditional songwriting; songs that are made to pack a dance floor flow seamlessly in

harrowing ballads. The entirety of this spectrum is apparent on his debut album Seraph, out July 24, 2015.

While Seraph is his first full‐length record, Arsenault is no newcomer. In 2013, after playing shows supporting Purity Ring and

Deerhunter, the first Mas Ysa track, “Why,” was released and named a “Best New Track” by Pitchfork. The following year the Worth EP

came out, nabbing another “Best New Track” nod for the song “Shame” and propelling Arsenault into the international spotlight.

From the early 50s Willie Dixon has been the studio kingpin of Chicago blues, having written, produced and played bass on countless

classics by Muddy Waters, Howlin’ Wolf, Otis Rush and others, Dixon has always managed to find time away from the studio to work as

performer, slapping his upright bass and signing his own tune in a compelling, conversational baritone. He was working the coffeehous

circuit with pianist Memphis Slim when he cut this, his first album as a leader, in 1959.

After touring the world multiple times over and internationally

repping their Australian brand of electronica, Miami Horror are set

to return in 2015 with their new album All Possible Futures, a record

When giants wielding guitars fearlessly roamed the blues landscape, few loomed larger or were more intimidati

presences than Albert and Freddie King. Though they never actually recorded together, the regal pairing of Albe

vocalists/musicians and unsigned artists from around the world.

Al l projects have brought musical exchanges to Cuba — wit h i ts il lust rious yet t radit ional music scene — a nation where rhythm(salsa, rumba) exist as the lifeblood of its people; where access to new music is limited, barely any broadband internet service

and decent home studio technology is rarely affordable. Despite this, Havana boasts a solid homegrown hip-hop scene andvibrant nightlife ruled by reggaeton, with house, techno, EDM, dubstep, trap and moombahton breaking through.

Besides, cultural exchanges are the essence of electronic music. Cuban rhythms (especially Afro-Cubano) trace back to the heaof dance music — from disco through to Chicago house and beyond — cross-pollination is what keeps it moving forward,

bringing electronic mus ic to a nation that in a way helped birth it.

MXMS, short for "me and my shadow" , is the multimedia project of singer Ariel Levitan and pianist Jeremy

Dawson

(best known as the Grammy‐nominated co‐founder of Shiny Toy Guns). Dubbing themselves " funeral
