The Wainwright SistersMartha Wainwright and Lucy Wainwright Roche - Debut Album - Songs In The Dark

The Wainwright Sisters will be releasing their anticipated debut album Songs In The Dark on November 13 via MapleMusic Recordings.

Although they're sisters, Martha Wainwright and Lucy Wainwright Roche didn't grow up together. Aside from genetics, their true bondwas a musical one, both growing up in families steeped in songwriting. Both their mothers would sing them lullabies (Kate McGarrigle toMartha and Suzzy Roche to Lucy) - now to honour that, 30 years later, Martha and Lucy are singing many of these same songs somepenned by their mothers and father (Loudon Wainwright III) on Songs In The Dark.

After nearly twenty five years and counting as a member of elbow and one of the UK’s most recognised and celebrated musicians a

lyricists, Guy

Garvey

is

setting

off

alone

for

the

first

time.

On

October

30

th

he

releases

his

debut

solo

album,

‘Courting

the

Squall’.

Recorded initially at Real World Studios near Bath and completed at Blueprint Studios in Salford, ‘Courting the Squall’ features a ba

created by Guy from his ‘favourite musicians outside elbow’ and was driven by spontaneity and experimentation amongst

assembled players with Guy firmly and exclusively in the driving seat. The band ‘moved fast and drank a lot’ , focusing on live record

with minimal overdubs to create the songs. Unlike elbow, where democracy has always ruled, this is an album where Guy embraced

freedom to do exactly what he felt throughout.

‘Courting the Squall’ is powered by influences and ideas that ‘don’t fit the elbow template’ . Some tracks, notably ‘Angela’s Eyes’, ‘Har

Edges’ and ‘Belly of the Whale’, come completely from groove, finding a sweet spot between Manchester’s baggy past, long term lo

Tom Waits and Bowie’s mid‐70’s albums, particularly ‘Sound and Vision’. This change of type engendered a change of vocal approach

clipped and more direct Garvey voice coming across, a hark back to his early days writing lyrics influenced by his listening to hip‐h

where short delivery carries rhythm alongside meaning.

Having guested on various artist’s albums as a vocalist, ‘Courting the Squall’ sees Guy duet on his own music again with the sumptuo

‘Electricity’ featuring Jolie Holland conjuring up images of illicit jazz dives in fin de siècle Paris or prohibition era New York in the distinc

non urban studio setting outside Bath. Alongside Jolie’s credit, another, less familiar set of co‐writers appear on the album but we’ll lea

that to you to discover.

It is, as with all solo albums, a glimpse into its creator’s soul. Shot through with warmth and emotional intelligence, content a

comfortable in its own skin, ‘Courting the Squall’ is that most unique thing; a record made without preconditions, an album of so

made purely for the joy of its making.

Louisiana band GIVERS are back with their sophomore album, New Kingdom, due out November 13th via Glassnote Records. The

album, available for pre-order, features new song “Bermud ∆ ” which drops today. Premiered this week on NPR’s All Song’s Considered,

About GIVERS:

Formed in 2008 in the sweaty dancehalls of Lafayette, Louisiana, GIVERS knew right away that they had something special. Crafted fromthe improvisational and dance- fueled atmosphere of the area's zydeco, cajun, and jazz cultures mixed with an affection for new wave,

funk, and world music, the infectious results brought a quick rise to the spotlight for the young band.

As a child growing up in Kansas City, Brenna Whitaker fell in love with the music of jazz and blues singers from the past. Aft

landing her first professional theater job at age 11, moving to New York City on her own to study with Broadway veterans

When the W Hotel opened in Hollywood in 2010, Brenna Whitaker and The Little Big Band quickly became the band‐in‐

residence, with Whitaker defying all Hollywood‐nightlife convention by creating, producing, and directing an incendiary

SABOR Y TUMBAO: The Tumbao Style is the inspiration of Sabor Y Tumbao which constitutes the richest part of Cuban music, and without sabor (flavor), it is impossible to really play the music

following. The group's leader, Girardo Barretto, has assembled some of Cuba's finest musicians and fashioned a very swinging bang guaranteed to get you dancing.

SABOR Y TUMBAO: Featuring world‐renowned flautist Orlando "Maraca" Valle, Oye Como Suena, y Esta Pagao features another side of Afro‐Cuban Jazz, or Latin Jazz with elements of Charanga

This group includes some of the most prominent Cuban musicians from Cubanismo, Orchestra de Aragon and Maraca's own band.

CHISPA Y SUS COMPLICES: A wonderful proponent of the newer style of Salsa Cubana, Chispa y Sus Complices plays an aggressive style of Cuban pop music. Containing members of one of Cuba

hottest dance bands, the rhythm and drive of this group of talented young musicians will definitely get you moving.

CATARSIS: The sound of the human voice may very well be humanity's oldest musical instrument, and over the past few years, the all‐vocal format of Afro‐Cuban music has been a very importa

Boyz‐n‐the‐Hood is the debut by Eazy‐E as a part of N.W.A. Ice Cube was 17 years old when he wrote the track and took it

Eazy‐E. A short time later, Eazy and Cube formed N.W.A. with Dr. Dre and included this song on the “N.W.A. and the Posse

Anne Bisson, pianist, singer/songwriter launches her third album in 5 years, Tales From the Treetops. The songs on this new album are based on a classic jazz style, with a few pop influences thrown in. Anne relates personal stories redolen

Overview: It is difficult to equate the sleepy outer Brisbane suburb of Mansfield with an international success story. Yetspawning from Queensland’s bible belt come four-piece Violent Soho, who are well on the way to achieving exactly that.

The band was borne of a reaction against everything and everyone. Wearing their hearts firmly emblazoned across their hommade t-shirts, these four unlikely dudes scream it loud and proud with a guttural roar that does not let up from beginning toend. Their latest album, Hungry Ghost, was recently certified gold in Australia.

Spraynard began playing together in 2009, focusing on cultivating a scene organically around them and quickly becominglocal favorites in the process. But t he endless touring and sudden popularity turned out to be more straining then expected,leading the band to announce a hiatus in 2012. That break did n' t last long , though, and not long after, the band announcedthe release of The Mark, Tom, and Patrick Show, a compilation record on Asian Man in 2014. The release was followed by asold out show in Philadelphia, and it was evident that Spraynard's fan base had only grown in their time apart. Their latestalbum, Mable, was released in July to rave reviews, including Pitchfork who called it "one of the catchiest sets of pessimistpunk songs."

Starting out in 2010 as a solid garage rock group, King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard followed their collective muse wherever it chose to

lead them. For their latest opus, 'Paper Mâché Dream Balloon,' they initially thought it was going to be filled with the darker, heavier

material that the band has been playing live of late. But front man Stu Mackenzie soon decided that it was time to put aside the longe

more conceptual pieces and go in a completely new direction.

On previous records King Gizzard has channeled many different sounds: From heavily distorted, kraut‐driven rock on their 2014 album

'I'm In Your Mind Fuzz' to expansive, almost jazzy, Dead‐like head trips on 'Quarters!' or as Mackenzie puts it ‐ "I always wanted to be

band where you would expect the unexpected each time, with each album being treated like a different phase."

Hence, the band's seventh album was recorded using nothing but acoustic instruments. Mackenzie elaborated on this with: "Acoustic

guitars, flute, double bass, fiddle, harmonica, drum kit, clarinet. Whatever we could find really." The result is a lovely, lilting pop

masterpiece that still evokes the same intoxicating exuberance as KGATLW's most recent work, but with a more pastoral, communal fe

to it.

Phish front man Trey Anastasio has announced the release of his long awaited new album. PAPER WHEELS - the multi-talentedsinger/musician/composer's first new solo album in three years - arrives October 30

PAPER WHEELS will be offered as a deluxe limited edition that will include 180 gram 45 RPM 2x LP splatter vinyl and a die cut gatefopackage with six unique sleeves. Only 4,000 of these special packages will be manufactured.

Produced by Anastasio and longtime collaborator Bryce Goggin, PAPER WHEELS was recorded last year at The Barn, the Phfounding guitarist's Vermont farmhouse-turned-rehearsal space/recording studio. Anastasio and the members of Trey Anastasio Band (TAdeveloped the material on stage while touring and at soundcheck on the tour leading up to the sessions, allowing them to track the album

just under a week. Taking a cue from the energetic immediacy of classic Stax Studio recording sessions, TAB worked fast and looplaying together live in The Barn and wrapping up tracks after one or two takes. Written and co-written by Anastasio alongside frequent lypartners Tom Marshall and Steve "The Dude of Life" Pollak, songs like the funk-driven "Bounce" and the elegiac "Invisible Knife" (writtsolely by Anastasio) are among the legendarily diverse artist's most infectious and inventive, alive with creative vigor, robust musicianshand true soul power (see the complete tracklisting below).

PAPER WHEELS features the classic TAB line up of drummer Russ Lawton, bassist Tony Markellis, and keyboardist Ray Paczkowsaugmented by a full horn section (including trombonist/vocalist Natalie Cressman, multi-instrumentalist James Casey, and longtime TAtrumpeter/vocalist Jennifer Hartswick). BIOGRAPHY

Based in Vancouver, We Are The City has gained the reputation of a consistently exciting

yet markedly unpredictable, cult-band. Their last full length, Violent , was released in

Europe by Sinnbus, in America by Tooth & Nail and in Canada by Boompa. Violent (the

film) achieved international success and garnered 8 Leo Awards, Signis Award at the

Amiens International Film Festival in France, Canada's Top Ten Films at TIFF and is a

contender to be Canada's foreign language film submission to the 2015 Academy

Awards.

With Above Club the band set out with an idea and the intent to outdo all that the band

has previously created. The recording process has been shrouded in mystery and was

then sent to Ryan Dahle (Limblifter, Mounties) and Steve Bays (Hot Hot Heat, Mounties)

to mix and Joao Carvalho to master. The result is nothing short of a masterpiece with

vocal reverb that brings bubbling orbs of sound packed into short glittering pop songs.

Sun Club's debut LP titled 'The Dongo Durango' joyously deconstructs the traditional pop song and rebuilds it with off ‐kilter time signatures, gleefully

unhinged vocals, and sunny hooks that sink deep into your already fevered brain. The record will be out October 30 via ATO Records and MapleMusi

Recordings.

The members of Sun Club became a band as childhood friends over ten years ago and with the release of a well‐received 7" and EP have toured

endlessly ever since, moving from basement gigs to bars to opening up shows for the likes of Alvvays, FIDLAR, and Fat White Family.

The Baltimore band then set about recording 'The Dongo Durango' using an old warehouse space just outside of their home‐town as a makeshift stud

They recorded the album live, all the better to capture the raw and raucous energy of their concerts. There they channeled influences of fellow

Baltimore greats from Future Islands to Dan Deacon, as well as drawing from their own musical libraries that include DEVO, The Beach Boys, and The

White Stripes.

"We made this video at a time when not a lot of us had jobs and we had just spent a month recording the new album almost everyday," Sun Club said

the video. "It was this weird in‐between phase right after we finished recording, before we went on tour or had any idea of how the album would be

released. It was also the end of so many years where we booked our own tours and made short releases. We've reached a new step where we are all

psyched to properly release some of our music."

By the early 1990s, Big Star had reformed with Chilton andoriginal drummer Jody Stephens alongside Jon Auer and KenStringfellow of power-pop trio The Posies. Featuring a plethora oftracks from the golden age alongside a touching version of ChrisBell's solo classic 'I Am The Cosmos', and a rousing 'BabyStrange' from the pen of late British glam-rocker Marc Bolan,further covers include Todd Rundgren's 'Slut'- charmingly

So werented a rolling castle from Kaiser Red Car and instructed the Orch-crew to load our Mellotrons, Taurus and kettledrums. This product isa sample from the 2007 tour. On this night The Flower Kings playedto a Dutch audience who seemed to be on a diet of tulip leaves andfinely ground wooden shoes. One gentleman claimed to havesmoked a blend of Vincent Van Gogh's sundried ear and the fungus

from a 1897 windmill to get in the right mood. If you ask us, you neednothing but a pair of functioning ears a good spirit and some qualitytime to enjoy this.

Zappa also hit the road in September '81, performing a largely

domestic tour that criss-crossed the US and took in a couple

shows in Canada between September and Christmas. On boa

for the tour were Frank's latest touring band, comprising Cha

Wackerman on drums, Ed Mann on percussion, Tommy

Mars on keyboards, Scott Thunes on bass, with Steve Va

and Ray White on guitar . In November the group travelled toNew York State, played a couple of shows up north before hit

the city and unloading at the infamous Ritz venue in the East

Village on the 17th.

The show that night was captured by WLIR FM Radio and

Swiss composer Heinz Holliger’s Machaut-Transkriptionen is comprised of a spacious cycle o

pieces written over a ten year period beginning in 2001. An imaginative re-investigation of thework of the great 14th century French composer-poet Guillaume de Machaut, it is scored for

four voices and three violas. Note-for-note transcriptions of Machaut give way to Holliger’s

Released to celebrate his 70th birthday, this 28CD set shows Lupu in his prime, performing works by the composers who bu

his musical world – Mozart, Beethoven, Schubert, Schumann and Brahms. Also included are his two records with Murray

Perahia (CBS), two albums of Schubert Lieder with Barbara Hendricks (EMI), and a disc of pieces for four hands by Schube

with Daniel Barenboim (Teldec).

Radu Lupu is firmly established as one of the most important musicians of his generation. Born in Romania, he started pian

lessons with Lia Busuioceanu at the age of 6. At the age of 12 he made his public debut with a complete programme of his o

music. He continued his studies for several years with Florica Muzicescu and Cella Delavrancea before winning a scholarship

1961 to the Moscow Conservatoire where he studied with Galina Eghyazarova, Heinrich Neuhaus and later with Stanislav

Neuhaus. He won first prize in three competitions: the 1966 Van Cliburn, the 1967 Enescu International, and the 1969 Leed

International.

His recordings for Decca include the Beethoven Piano Concertos, Brahms Concerto No 1, Grieg and Schumann Concertos, tcomplete Mozart Violin and Piano Sonatas with Szymon Goldberg, Debussy and Franck Violin and Piano Sonatas with Kyun

Wha Chung, and solo works by Beethoven, Brahms, Schumann and Schubert. In 1995 he won 2 awards in the category “Be

Instrumental Record of the Year”: a Grammy for Schubert’s Sonatas in A major D664 and B flat major D960, and an Edison

Award for Schumann’s Kinderszenen, Kreisleriana and Humoresque. He has also made two records with Murray Perahia
