The Tragically Hip ‐ Man Machine Poem. The band’s 14th

studio album takes its name from a track on their Gold

selling 2012 release, Now For Plan A, and was recorded at The Hip’s home studio The Bathouse, produced by

Kevin Drew (Broken Social Scene, Andy Kim, Arts & Crafts label co‐founder) and Dave Hamelin (The Stills).

“We’re moving forward while embracing a memory,” says Kevin Drew. “That was what I said to the band going

into this recording.” He explains that muscle memory is why we love songs, it’s the most important thing a band

has. “This album is about three things,” he continues. “Memory, transformation, and truth. I think it’s a fantastic

record.”

The Tragically Hip are in the best possible place a band can be: they’re brothers, they play so easily together,

comfortable in their skins enough to try any idea, confident enough to know what’s right. No team of ace Swedis

consultant‐writers needed; The Hip know it’s their duty as artists to feel something and the listener is going to ge

“Last fall, Garbage revisited their seminal self ‐titled debut with a special 20th anniversary reissue and tour. This year,

however, the alt rockers are looking to add to their catalog with their first album in four years, Strange Little Birds… It spa

challenging yet still maintain the humour expected at a live Zappa show. A potent and rewarding release.

longtime Doughty producer Kevin Salem and includes two new bonus tracks from the Haughty Melodic era: “All The Time”

and “I’m Still Drinking In My Dreams” .

were too many songs in D major already or something. It was loony to exclude it."

The new CD and LP packaging includes liner notes penned by Mike Doughty himself, which tell the story of recording the

album and a chance meeting with Dave Matthews backstage at Bonnaroo, who also later went on to sing on the record.

This broadcast included Simmons' first televised interview, a

conversation with Douglas in which Simmons declared himself

'evil incarnate,' eliciting titters from an uncomfortable and largely

confused studio audience. In-between these two TV

performances the band played at the Agora Ballroom in

Cleveland Ohio, on April 1st '74, in support of Irish guitarist Rory

Gallagher, a show broadcast across the greater Ohio Area by

WMMS-FM, as part of their 'Nights Out At The Agora' series,

letting local rock fans who didn't attend sample a taste of this

outrageous new act.

The oldest living musician from Blue Note Records' classic era, LouDonaldson has spent more than six decades carving himself anenduring and formidable reputation as an alto saxophonist,bandleader and composer. Having recorded many classic albumsunder his own name, and as second string to a host of other ground-breaking jazz musicians, Donaldson started out emulating the bebop

style of Charlie Parker, before later developing his instantly-recognisable soulful, bluesy tone. Lou also has the unique distinctionof being one of few musicians to employ an organist in his bandthrough much of his career, in addition to the more standardinclusion of a pianist. Lou Donaldson was born in Badin, NorthCarolina on 1st November 1926, the second of four children to

Andrew, a minister, and Lucy, a teacher. It would be his mother -also a music director and concert pianist - who would recogniseLou's musical ear at an early age, initially introducing him to theclarinet. After receiving a Bachelor of Science degree at NorthCarolina A&T University, Donaldson was drafted into the US Navy in1945, playing in the Great Lakes Navy Band, where he made hisswitch to alto saxophone. During this time he was introduced to themusic of Charlie Parker which had a profound effect on the youngmusician, and at the war's conclusion, he joined The Rhythm Vets, agroup consisting of students who had served in the Navy. The band

would go on to record the soundtrack for musical comedy featurettePitch a Boogie Woogie in 1947. At the end of the decade, Donaldsonmoved to New York with his new wife, Maker, where he attended theDarrow Institute of Music.

With a rich, soulful, blues-tinted sound and a catalogue of work thboasts a plethora of highly-regarded albums in his roles as bothbandleader and sideman, the alto saxophonist known to many as"Sweet Poppa Lou" Donaldson - so called because his tone becaincreasingly that way - remains one finest purveyors of hisinstrument to have performed in the jazz idiom. And while many o

his contemporaries continued to work in bebop during the 1950s,Donaldson instead broke away from the pack and developed a mR&B-influenced style and adopted unusual instrumentation, incluthe use of congas and organ. Although Donaldson often worked asideman to organist Jimmy Smith throughout this period, appearion no fewer than seven of Smith's albums between 1957 and 196his main focus was working as leader. He kicked off 1959 on a hiwith LD + 3 (Blue Note), a collaboration with The Three Sounds, trio consisting of pianist Gene Harris, Andrew Simpkins on bass, drummer Bill Dowdy. As the years progressed, Donaldson movedfurther away from bop and incorporated more elements of R&B asoul jazz into his repertoire, a shift which became notably appareon the release of Here 'Tis (Blue Note, 1961). Featuring theexceptional organ playing of Baby Face Willette, the album becaa cornerstone for the soul jazz sub-genre, and remains one of Lomost acclaimed albums
