Michael Berard Education: 2013 Bachelor of Science in Architectural Engineering Technology -University of Hartford -Hartford, CT -Cumulative GPA: 3.72 2013 Minor in Civil Engineering -University of Hartford -Hartford, CTSkill Highlights: Presentation Techniques Free Hand Drawing/Sketching/Drafting AutoCAD 2011 Painting Model Making Professional Skills Able to communicate well both written and orally Able to work under pressure Have assumed leadership roles on design teams for small projects Quick grasp on new technologies and techniques Motivated problem solverWork Experience:

KFC 2007-2011 Team Trainer, Shift Assistant Ran the kitchen as well as the customer aspect of a shift. Kept employees busy and in the right direction. Balanced product projection as well as workers on floor versus income for each given hour. Trained almost all new employees on both procedures as well as safety.

Darveau & Associates 2010 Land Surveying Internship Used optical surveying equipment to measure sites and topography. Created AutoCAD files for some of the surveyed buildings, and developed an understanding for mechanical systems in sites.

Andino’s Restaurant 2011-Present Wait-staff Clearing/cleaning tables. Further improved my verbal communication techniques with both the customers as well as the staff.

ARCHEOLOGICAL DIG SITE COVERINGaet 367 // spring 2012 // design competition

The objective of this competition was to design a roof covering for the archeological ruins on a dig site. The intent was to create a structural system that would not interfere with the work site, while also increasing the public awareness towards architectural heritage. By utilizing the roof design from the ancient building that is now ruins, I was able to create an abstraction of historic architecture.

MIXED USE DEVELOPMENTaet 352 // fall 2011 //

This mixed-use building that we were required to design was one that had to provide a unique commercial and residential combination to revitalize this part of Hartford. It was a building that needed to reflect the theatrical nature of the neghboring theater as well as the historic significance of the local church. It was to incorporate the needs of both unique buildings into one structure with spaces usable by both. I creat-ed a building that allowed more open and free space that also directly reflected the important vistas and circulation of the area.

The sustainable lab project in the U.S.V.I. was one that required an in-depth understanding of laboratory layouts as well as how to build on a demanding and intricate site. Utilizing sustainable design as well as creating a lab space with very specific rooms and functions was chal-lenging yet exciting. I developed a site plan that utilized the topogra-phy lines on the difficult terrain, while also unifying the three main sec-tions of the building with each other. The simplicity in material and form allows for small architectural details to pop, while also allowing the amazing vistas provided by the site to dominate a visitor’s view.
