Unicef and HMC: Protecting up to 6.25m children from tetanus
What is tetanus?
• Maternal and neonatal tetanus is a silent killer affecting babies and mothers
• Every 9 minutes a new born baby dies from neonatal tetanus
What has Unicef done so far?
• Unicef is working hard to provide tetanus vaccines. One vaccine costs just 4p
• Unicef has successfully eliminated this killer disease in many countries.
What still needs to be done?
• In 24 countries, babies and mothers are still in danger
• These are often people living in extreme poverty
How is your school Head helping?
• Your school Head is taking part in the HMC Chariots of Fire Run
• Heads in this group are each aiming to raise £1,125 to protect 25,000 children from tetanus
• All together, the Heads in the race are hoping to raise enough money to protect 6.25m children from tetanus
