What is tetanus?

• Maternal and neonatal tetanus is a silent killer affecting babies and mothers

• Every 9 minutes a new born baby dies from neonatal tetanus

What has Unicef done so far?

• Unicef is working hard to provide tetanus vaccines. One vaccine costs just 4p

• Unicef has successfully eliminated this killer disease in many countries.

What still needs to be done?

• In 24 countries, babies and mothers are still in danger

• These are often people living in extreme poverty

• Your school Head is taking part in the HMC Chariots of Fire Run

• Heads in this group are each aiming to raise £1,125 to protect 25,000 children from tetanus

• All together, the Heads in the race are hoping to raise enough money to protect 6.25m children from tetanus
