United Fresh proudly welcomes former First Lady of the United States Laura Bush, to present the keynote address at Wednesday’s Breakfast General Session. One of the most respected and popular First Ladies, Mrs. Bush continues to be active in issues of national and global concern. The nation faced historical challenges during her eight years at the White House, and she will share personal perspectives on her life
experiences and thoughts on how to stay focused, keep a positive outlook and provide leadership in difficult times.
United Fresh Incoming Chairman David KrauseFollowing Mrs. Bush, we will hear an inspirational message from United Fresh Incoming Chairman of the Board David Krause, President of Paramount Citrus. General Sessions Opening Breakfast General Session - Tuesday, May 1 “The Future of Food Retailing” FMI Chairman Fred Morganthall, president, Harris Teeter
Tuesday morning we kick off the convention with an opening keynote presentation by the Food Marketing Institute’s Chairman Fred Morganthall, president, Harris Teeter. As president of the North Carolina-based retail chain and Chairman of FMI, Morganthall will take us beyond produce to share insights on the challenges and opportunities in today’s supermarket industry and what the future holds for food retailing.
Fred Morganthall has been with Harris Teeter since 1986 and, prior to being named president in 1997, served as executive vice president, senior vice president of operations, vice president of sales and distribution, and vice president of merchandising. Morganthall previously worked as manager of grocery, frozen and dairy purchasing for Spartan Stores in Grand Rapids, Michigan; buyer for Viking Foods in Muskegon, Michigan; and sales representative for Procter & Gamble in western Michigan. He is past president of North Carolina Food Dealers Association and Carolinas Food Industry Council. He is a member of the Spartan Stores Board of Directors and the YMCA of Greater Charlotte Board of Directors. Morganthall is a graduate of Bowling Green State University with a bachelor’s degree in public relations.
