Results and lessons learned UNALM
–UNALM is considered as a strong partner for IUC-developments–IUC-program is on track, y 5 at the end of Phaze I–IUC-PSU fuly operational–Positive mid-term evaluation–UNAML is committed to consolidade his position as leading actor in sustainable natural resource management
Peru–Proficiency of English is a problem in Peruvian universities–Poor managerial tradition–Poor quality of educational systems, first phaze of accreditation–Relatively limited interest in research and PhD studies missing incentives–Low salaries of academic staff additional jobs –New University Law
Thank you
Country strategy proposal for PeruFocus on ‘Sustainable management of agro-ecosystems to alleviate food insecurity in poor, rural area’s of Peru’
–Top-priority for the Peruvian government–Focus on well-defined and relevant objectives
Based on existing and operational networks–UNALM relations with local universities, NGO’s (FABEB) and Local Research Institutes–Partially elaborated in the running IUC and using excellent contacts of UNALM staff–PRODERN II (BTC): 13 000 000 euro voor 6 jaar!

Country strategy proposal for PeruCrosscutting Educational Program around a focused topic ‘Sustainable management of agro-ecosystems to alleviate food insecurity in poor, rural area’s of Peru’
–Establish/institutionalize a network of interested and engaged Local Universities/UNALM–Focus efforts on research integration (confronting students with research, involving students in research)–Develop common courses and lecture notes–Design ‘blended learning’ strategies to support multi-campus education –Elaborate and install systems to promote quality culture–Develop nation wide educational models that foster synergies
Small research projects (type S-initiative, TEAM) on focused topics with limited amount of partners (5-6 projects / y) linked to education/experimental set-ups
–Watershed management, Irrigation, Primary production, Soil salinity, Pollution, Export, ...– Milk production, animal nutrition, pasture/range management, milk quality, ...– Agroforestry, soil degradation, erosion, legal/illegal coca production, ... –...
