Pre-Veterinary Study Abroad Programme Pre-Veterinary Study Abroad Programme www.ucd.ie 01 Subject Choices University College Dublin Pre-Veterinary Study Abroad Programme UCD STUDY ABROAD PROGRAMMES UCD has developed an exciting new Pre-Veterinary Study Abroad Programme. Students registering to the programme, which will be coordinated by the UCD School of Agriculture and Food Science, in collaboration with the AVMA accredited UCD School of Veterinary Medicine, will have access to relevant modules listed below offered by the UCD College of Health and Agricultural Sciences, as well as option modules from the UCD College of Arts and Celtic Studies and UCD Clinton Institute for American Studies. Semester One Timetable Students are required to complete 30 credits per semester including: Four modules (or 20 credits) from the following list: ANSC10010 Introduction to Animal Science (5 credits) ANSC30010 Animal Reproduction (5 credits) ANSC30020 Animal Breeding 1 (5 credits) ANSC30030 Animal Genomics (5 credits) ANSC30110 Ruminant Animal Production (10 credits) ANSC30120 Non Ruminant Animal Production (5 credits) ANSC30170 Animal Physiology 1 (5 credits) ANSC30210 Equine Industries (5 credits) ANSC30190 Equine Anatomy and Physiology of Exercise (5 credits) ANSC40010 Applied Animal Reproduction (5 credits) One module from the following list: PHPS40230 Veterinary Epidemiology and Food Safety (5 credits) AESC40150 Wildlife Conservation (5 credits) One module from the following list: IRST30150 Ireland Uncovered (5 credits) ARCH20170 Discovering Ireland: Landscape and Heritage (5 credits) RDEV10160 Introduction to Humanitarian Action (5 credits) RDEV10170 Introduction to Politics in Humanitarian Action 1 (5 credits) The first intake of students will commence the programme in January 2017, with one semester and two semester options planned for the 2017/8 academic year. Students enrolling to Animal Physiology 1 (semester one), Animal Physiology 2 (semester two) and Principles of Animal Health, Behaviour and Welfare (semester two) will have an opportunity to receive lectures from UCD School of Veterinary Medicine academic staff within the internationally regarded UCD Herd Health Group. UCD has developed an exciting new Pre-Veterinary Study Abroad Programme. Programme SupportsPeer Mentors

Study Abroad students will be part of the UCD School of Agriculture and Food Science and linked to a peer mentor who is a second or third year UCD student. Many of our peer mentors will have spent a semester studying abroad and are familiar with the student experience.

Supports and initiatives such as tutorials, laboratories and continuous assessment are designed to assist you along the way. You will be required to undertake and be examined in up to six subjects each semester, ensuring you always have a manageable workload.

EligibilityTHE MINIMUM GPA REQUIREMENT IS 3.00 (Bachelors degree)

Credit TransferUCD will send an official transcript of exam results to your home institution. Your home institution decides on credits to be awarded for modules pursued at UCD.

Facilities

The Agriculture and Food Science Centre provides excellent learning support facilities for our visiting students, including a purpose built Food Science building with dedicated food laboratories and a sensory suite.

UCD Lyons Research Farm is the teaching and research facility operated by University College Dublin outside Newcastle, Co Kildare. The farm consists of approximately 220 hectares and is an important resource for the School’s of Agriculture and Food Science and Veterinary Medicine.

Module Information and Assessment

At UCD we call classes/courses ‘modules’. Details of modules are available to browse on UCD’s online course catelogue at www.ucd.ie/students/course_search.htm. Formal examinations are set in December and May.

Specific Stage 3, semester 2 modules in Agriculture and Food Science are assessed in the March Fieldwork/Study period.

International students are expected to undertake examinations in accordance with University regulations. Increasingly, project and class-based work form a component of the assessment process.
