University of Arizona Campus Blotter August 2013May 2014

All information via The Daily Wildcat August 27 On Aug. 22 at approximately 3:40 a.m., a UA student was diverted to the Dean of Students for a Minor in Bodily Possession of Alcohol, after a UAPD officer noticed him sleeping in an enclosed trash area on campus.

The officer was unable to verbally wake the man and had to shake him to wake him up. The man smelled strongly of alcohol and struggled to provide his name and identification.

When the student stood up, the officer noticed he was swaying and had to lean against the wall for support. His eyes were also watery and bloodshot. The officer read the student his Miranda rights and asked him if he had been drinking. The student said yes and added that he had been drinking vodka.

He also stated that he had been drinking at a residence hall with friends, but he refused to give any names or who provided the alcohol. He said after drinking he needed to “walk it off,” but had become lost and sat down to get his bearings. The officer diverted him to the Dean of Students and took him back to his dorm.

August 28 Three UA students were referred to the Dean of Students for code of conduct violations on Aug. 22, after a UAPD officer smelled marijuana coming from a dorm room while doing rounds with a resident assistant at approximately 10:30 p.m. As the officer approached the room, the door opened and a student tried to leave.

The officer informed him that he smelled what he believed to be marijuana, and asked the student to step back inside.

In the room were three more students and the officer asked who lived in the room. A girl said she did, but that her roommate was out with friends. The officer then asked if there was any marijuana in the room, and all four students denied that there was. The officer requested identification from the students and observed signs and symptoms of marijuana use on three of them.

One student said they had smoked marijuana outside of the residence hall, but that it was all gone. The officer explained to the students the dangers of drug and alcohol use, the laws in Arizona and rules regarding drugs and alcohol in residence halls on campus. He then sent code of conduct violations to the Dean of Students for the students who exhibited signs of drug use.

August 29 A UA student was cited and released for possession of marijuana on Aug. 26, after he drove by a University of Arizona Police Department officer in the Main Gate Parking Garage at approximately 10:25 a.m.

The officer smelled a strong odor of marijuana coming from the rolled down driver’s side window when the car passed him.

The officer followed the vehicle on bike until it parked, then told the driver why he had stopped him and asked for identification.

The officer didn’t find anything when he searched the student’s vehicle, but when he searched the student, he felt what seemed to be a bag of some kind near the groin area. The officer asked the student what he had concealed in his shorts and the student said,

“It’s the marijuana.”

The officer then told the student that he really did not want to unzip his shorts to retrieve it, so the student unzipped his shorts and removed an 8” by 8” plastic Ziploc bag filled with a substance he said was marijuana.

When questioned, the student told the officer that he had had the marijuana for about a week, and that he had paid $600 for it. He would not say where he bought it or from whom, only that he had paid $600 because “it was some good shit.”

He also told the officer that he usually smokes at home, though he sometimes smokes before working out at the Student Recreation Center.

The student was cited and released and referred to the dean of students. The marijuana, which weighed approximately 59.9 grams, was placed into evidence.

A UA student was arrested on charges of minor in possession on Aug. 26, after a UAPD officer noticed her being removed from the back of a vehicle parked near Tyndall Avenue while conducting traffic at approximately 11:15 p.m.

The student was having difficulties standing on her own and was supported by two of her friends. When the officer spoke with the student to conduct a welfare check, she said she was OK and had been drinking a little. She said she lived in a nearby residence hall and was being escorted home.

While speaking with the student, the officer noticed she had slurred speech, bloodshot eyes, and smelled strongly of alcohol.

When asked her age, she said she was 18 years old.

She told the officer that she had been drinking hard liquor at an offcampus party, but refused to identify where the party was or who provided the alcohol. Shortly after, she said she had been drinking at a fraternity, but then said again that she had actually been drinking offcampus, not at a fraternity. Due to her condition, the officer requested Student Emergency Medical Services to evaluate her, and it was determined she didn’t need any further medical attention.

The officer arrested her on charges of underage drinking and escorted her to her residence hall, where they were met by a resident assistant. She was cited and released into the resident assistant’s care, and a code of conduct violation was completed.

August 30 A UA student was cited and released for possession of paraphernalia at approximately 4:46 p.m. on Monday, after a resident assistant in his residence hall reported smelling burning marijuana coming from his room.

An officer from the University of Arizona Police Department arrived at the dorm and was escorted to the student’s room. After knocking on the door, the officer heard the clanking of glass, and requested the door be opened by the resident.

The clanking stopped and one of the four occupants opened the door.

The officer asked who lived in the room and was then granted permission to enter.

He then informed them that he wanted to question them about the odor of marijuana, and read all of them their Miranda rights.

The student who lived in the room informed the officer that he had smoked his remaining marijuana in his room at approximately 3 p.m., before going to the Student Recreation Center to work out.

He also stated there was no additional marijuana in the room.

When the officer asked the student to give him the paraphernalia, the student went to the closet and produced a sports bag containing a glass bong approximately one foot in length, five 16 ounce bottles of isopropyl alcohol, three 10 ounce bottles of Newport butane glass replacement canisters, six rubber cases, a small glass jar, a toilet paper roll, filter paper and a brown bag.

The brown bag also contained a glass tube with a golden color resin. The student stated that no one else had smoked marijuana in the room, or owned any of the paraphernalia.

He was cited and released for possession of paraphernalia and referred to the Dean of Students for a code of conduct violation.

September 3 Two UA students were diverted to the Dean of Students office for underage drinking, on Aug. 26 at approximately 10:52 p.m., after a UAPD officer spotted them staggering across Park Avenue.

The officer contacted the students and had them sit on the curb before speaking with them. The students had bloodshot and watery eyes, and the officer could smell alcohol on their breath.

The officer identified them and read them their Miranda rights before the students told the officer that they were coming from a fraternity party and returning to their residence hall. They admitted to drinking alcohol in their dorm, and the officer diverted them to the Dean of Students office.

September 4 Three UA students were arrested after an officer from the University of Arizona Police Department observed them huddled together holding cans near Sixth Street and Park Avenue at approximately 12:10 a.m. on Monday.

The officer drove by the group to get a closer look at what they were holding, at which time one of the students threw his cans over the wall of a nearby residence. The other two left their cans on a low wall in front of the residence and the three began to walk away.

3

Page 4: University of Arizona - Campus Blotter

The officer approached the group and asked them to take a seat on the curb so he could ask them some questions.

The first student admitted she had been drinking Keystone Light, which she had gotten from a party that she and her friends had gone to earlier. When she saw the officer approaching, she left her beer on the wall of the residence, she said.

The second student said he had drunk about five or six cans of Keystone Light, but said he had gotten the beer from someone in his dorm.

The third student told the officer that he would only answer certain questions. He said he had drank about two cans of beer that evening, and that someone at a gas station had bought the beer for them.

The officer could smell alcohol on two of the students’ breath as they spoke, but none of the three submitted to a portable breath test.

After questioning the group, the officer arrested one student on charges of minor in possession and criminal littering. The two students who smelled of alcohol were arrested on charges of minor in possession, minor in possession in body and criminal littering.

All three were cited and released from the scene, and the officer disposed of the cans the students had left in front of the nearby residence and in the yard.

September 5 A UA student was arrested and transported to University of Arizona Medical Center Monday night, after a UAPD officer was dispatched to a residence hall in reference to an intoxicated person bent over a toilet at approximately 9:30 p.m.

When the officer arrived to the residence hall, student emergency medical services were already on scene evaluating the student in the restroom.

Tucson Fire Department arrived at the same time as the officer.

The officer was provided with the student’s driver’s license, before medical personnel brought the student out of the restroom and into a dorm room, where the student continued to lean over a small trash bin.

The student stated that he had “at least seven shots,” though he did not know where he came from and said he woke up with medical personnel surrounding him in the restroom.

The officer noted that the student had bloodshot and watery eyes, smelled of alcohol, slurred his speech, had a staggering gait and rambling speech.

The student was able to recover slightly after vomiting and staggered down the hallway to the elevators. The officer advised the student he was being arrested and he was able to sign his citation for an underage person with alcohol in body. The student was taken to UAMC.

September 6 A UA student was arrested for minor in possession on Tuesday, after a UA community service officer witnessed four males attempting to conceal liquor in the back of a vehicle, while driving through a residence hall parking lot at approximately 6:19 p.m.

4

Page 5: University of Arizona - Campus Blotter

The individuals then entered the residence hall carrying several bags of groceries. However, the vehicle’s lights were still on, indicating that someone might still be in the vehicle.

A UAPD officer arrived at the residence hall and spoke with the driver of the car, a UA student, and observed a 30pack of Coors Light sitting in plain view in the back seat.

The officer confirmed that the driver was underage, and told him that someone had reported seeing liquor in his vehicle.

The student told the officer he didn’t know if there was any liquor, because he had taken a group of people shopping to Target and CVS Pharmacy. He then opened the back of the vehicle and the officer also found a bottle of Skyy Vodka and Southern Comfort in CVS bags. The officer then asked the student to contact the people he took to the store, and have them return to the vehicle.

The first student to speak with the officer said a friend of his had gone into CVS, but he did not know what he had purchased. The officer asked him to contact the friend, and have him come to the parking lot.

When the friend arrived, also a UA student, the officer informed him that he knew he had gone to purchase alcohol from CVS. The officer read him his Miranda rights and asked him what he had purchased, as well as where his fake identification card was located.

The student admitted he purchased the Coors Light, Skyy and Southern Comfort, and that he had cut up his fake ID and thrown it away when he heard the officer was looking for him.

The officer told the student that because of his honesty, he would not be charged for the fake ID but would be cited and released for minor in possession.

A code of conduct violation was forwarded to the Dean of Students.

A UA student was cited and released for possession of marijuana on Tuesday at approximately 10:35 p.m., after two UAPD officers responded to a call regarding the smell of marijuana coming from a dorm room.

Upon arriving to the scene, officers met with a resident assistant who escorted them to the room. An officer made contact with the student who agreed they could enter the room.

Another UA student was also in the room, though he said he did not live there.

While speaking with the officers, the resident stated that he did not have marijuana in the room and had not used any for three months.

He was checked for signs and symptoms or marijuana use, and had red, glassy eyes, a greentinted tongue and raised taste buds.

While speaking to the other student who did not live in the room, police were informed that they had been smoking marijuana off campus, and that there was more marijuana in the room.

The resident then admitted to having marijuana in the room, but confirmed that he did not smoke in the room or on UA campus. He pointed to a plastic pill container on his desk, and stated that he had no other drugs or paraphernalia in the room.

5

Page 6: University of Arizona - Campus Blotter

An officer read the student his Miranda rights, and asked him where he purchased the marijuana, but the student would not provide any names.

He was cited and released for possession of marijuana, and a code of conduct was submitted to the Dean of Students. His 13.1 grams of marijuana was confiscated.

September 10 Two UA students were arrested, cited and released on Sept. 4 at approximately 12:40 a.m., after a resident assistant reported an odor of marijuana coming from their dorm room. Two UAPD officers arrived at the residence hall and were able to confirm the smell coming from the room. They then made contact with the occupants, who were three UA students. All three roommates admitted to smoking marijuana in their room, and one of the students said the marijuana belonged to him. He agreed to show an officer where it was located, while the other officer stayed with the other two roommates in the hallway.

The student stated that he kept his marijuana in a backpack in a locked drawer in his desk and agreed to open the drawer to give the marijuana to the officer.

The backpack contained approximately 21.2 grams of marijuana in plastic baggies, four smoking pipes, two bongs, one vaporizer and one metal marijuana grinder.

The officer read the student his Miranda rights and the student stated that he got the marijuana from a UA student, but didn’t know their name. He was cited and released for possession of marijuana and drug paraphernalia, and asked to have a seat in the hallway while the officer spoke to the next roommate, who had a bottle of vodka under his desk.

The student agreed to speak with the officer and said the vodka belonged to him. He also stated that he got the alcohol from another UA student, but could not remember the name. He was cited and released for underage person in possession of liquor. He also admitted to smoking marijuana in the room.

The last student stated he had smoked marijuana with his other two roommates in the room, and agreed to a search of his area. No contraband was located on his side of the room. All three roommates were issued code of conduct violations.

September 11 Two UA students were arrested on charges of minor in possession on Saturday after an officer from the University of Arizona Police Department observed them standing on the corner of Cherry Avenue and Speedway Boulevard at approximately 12:32 a.m. One of the students picked up a “No Right Turn” sign mounted on a post and began doing bench presses with the sign. After about five presses, the student threw the sign in the gravel between the sidewalk and the parking lot of a sorority house. The officer spoke with the student who threw the sign and asked for identification. The student said he was just fooling around, and that it was stupid of him to throw the sign.

6

Page 7: University of Arizona - Campus Blotter

He had a strong odor of alcohol on his breath and bloodshot eyes, and the officer noted that he was mumbling as he spoke. The student admitted to drinking a few beers at an offcampus party, but was unable to say where the party was or who had provided the beer. A sergeant also arrived and noted there was no damage to the sign. The officer then spoke with the second man and got ID from him. He also had the smell of alcohol on his breath, slurred speech and bloodshot eyes. The student admitted to having a few sips of beer, but would also not say where he had been drinking or who had provided the beer. Both students were arrested, cited and released, and code of conduct violations were completed.

A UA student was transported to the University of Arizona Medical Center by ambulance for extreme intoxication on Saturday at approximately 2:15 a.m.

An officer went to a residence hall at approximately 1:54 a.m. in response to a call for medical assistance. When the officer arrived, a woman was lying on the floor in a dorm room, being evaluated by Student Emergency Medical Services.

The woman was uncooperative and was not answering SEMS’s questions. She smelled strongly of alcohol, and it looked like she had urinated in the room.

The room’s resident identified the woman and said she believed she lived on the third floor of a different residence hall.

The resident then told the officer that the woman on the floor had started drinking at 2 p.m. on Friday and continued drinking until midnight. They had attended a party together at a house north of campus, where the woman had had mixed drinks and had possibly taken shots as well.

She had to be carried back up to the dorm room, the resident added.

Tucson Fire Department then arrived to evaluate the woman, who continued to be uncooperative and at one point told the paramedic to “fuck off,” giving him the middle finger.

When another member of TFD asked her what her date of birth was, she responded, “Birth control.”

TFD said that the woman was not medically cleared to stay on campus and had an ambulance transport her to UAMC for treatment.

At approximately 5:45 a.m., the officer followed up with the girl in her hospital room, where she was arrested, cited and released for minor in possession of liquor in body. She was also issued a code of conduct violation through the Dean of Students office.

September 13 A UA student was referred to the Dean of Students for underage drinking on Sunday at approximately 12:03 a.m., after a UAPD officer noticed two men walking on the sidewalk near Park Avenue and Fourth Street. One of the men was helping the other one walk by holding him up.

7

Page 8: University of Arizona - Campus Blotter

The officer stopped and approached the men. While speaking with them, it was clear that the man who was being assisted was very intoxicated. The intoxicated man was later identified as a UA student.

He had red, watery and bloodshot eyes, slurred speech and smelled like alcohol. He also had a laceration over his eye that he said he got from bumping into a pole. He then admitted to drinking gin.

Tucson Fire Department was called to evaluate the student and concluded that if someone looked after him, he would not need to be taken to a hospital.

The other man who was assisting said he lives in the same dorm as the student, but did not want to look after him and left prior to TFD leaving.

While speaking with the student, another UA student walked up and offered to help. He said he was neighbors with the student and that they spend a lot of time together.

He agreed to watch his intoxicated friend for the night. The student was referred to the Dean of Students for Student Diversion for underage drinking.

September 16 A UA student was cited and released for minor in possession on Sept. 12 in the parking lot of a residence hall at 11:50 p.m. UAPD officers were patrolling the area when a woman, later identified as a UA student, exited the front seat of a taxi cab holding a red cup. When she saw the officers, she immediately turned around and started walking away.

One of the officers stepped in front of her and noticed the cup was no longer in her hand. When asked where the cup was she lifted up the front of her shirt and produced the cup from inside the front of her spandex shorts.

When she handed the cup to the officer, some of the liquid, which smelled like alcohol, splashed on the officer’s hand. The woman also smelled like alcohol and said she had been drinking vodka at an offcampus party.

The officer asked the taxi cab driver where he had picked up the group of people who were still in the van, and was told it was at a house party. The officer cited and released the woman for minor in possession.

September 17 Two UA students were diverted to the Dean of Students for possession of marijuana in their residence hall on Wednesday, at 10:40 p.m. At 10:22 p.m., officers responded to the residence hall in reference to the smell of marijuana coming from one of the rooms. An officer knocked on the door and a man answered. He identified himself as the resident of the room and allowed the officers to enter.

8

Page 9: University of Arizona - Campus Blotter

There were two other men inside the room. Officers informed the men, all of whom were UA students, that they smelled marijuana coming from the room.

One of the officers asked them if they had any marijuana or paraphernalia. The resident of the room said he had a grinder and gave it to the officer. He and another student admitted to smoking marijuana off campus.

One of the students provided the officer with three packages of rolling papers and an empty container for marijuana. The third student in the room said he had smoked marijuana in the past, but had not smoked since he came to campus.

The resident said the grinder belonged to him, and the student said the rolling papers and container belonged to him. They were diverted through the Dean of Students for possession of drug paraphernalia.

September 18 Three UA students were referred to the Dean of Students Office on Sunday at around 2:05 a.m. after they were found coming out of the construction site at Old Main. An officer from the University of Arizona Police Department heard voices coming from the building, then saw a woman leaving the construction site between two fence panels loose enough to squeeze through. After the woman and two men exited the construction site, the officer stopped and questioned them. The students admitted to entering the construction site through the same panels they used to leave, saying that said they had all really wanted to see Old Main before it was renovated. They all had red, watery eyes and smelled strongly of alcohol. When the officer questioned them, they admitted to drinking earlier that night at a party. All three students were cited and released on charges of minor in possession of alcohol. A code of conduct violation for trespassing was also completed for each of the students.

***

Officers were sent to a residence hall on Sunday at 2:22 a.m. to give medical assistance to a UA student who appeared to be heavily intoxicated.

Vomit was scattered in several areas leading up to the lobby where the student sat. When questioned, the student could not speak intelligibly. His watery, bloodshot eyes, the strong smell of alcohol on his breath and his random statements that didn’t make sense led officers to realize he had been drinking that evening.

The student later admitted he drank a large amount of beer and alcohol at his fraternity house and couldn’t keep the mixture down.

An ambulance and the Tucson Fire Department showed up at the residence hall and determined the student needed to be treated for extreme intoxication.

9

Page 10: University of Arizona - Campus Blotter

The officer arrested and cited the student on charges of minor in possession of alcohol, then released him to be taken to the hospital by ambulance. A code of conduct violation was also sent to the Dean of Students.

September 19 Two UA students were arrested for possession of marijuana and drug paraphernalia at 12:15 a.m. on Sunday. While conducting a security check, a UAPD officer spotted a man and a woman smoking on the northwest corner of the top level of a parking garage on campus.

They initially appeared to be sharing a cigarette, but when the woman saw the police car, she gave the item to the man, who then threw it away from the garage.

As the UAPD officer approached the students, there was then a strong smell of marijuana. There was also a glass jar next to the man, which was found to contain .7 grams of marijuana. In between the man’s legs, there was also an open cigar package with one cigar, a pair of scissors and loose tobacco.

The male student showed the officer his medical marijuana card and said he was taking his medicine. He explained how he had removed the tobacco from the cigars and used them to smoke his marijuana. He also admitted to sharing his medicine with the other student, although he knew he wasn’t supposed to possess or use marijuana on campus.

While looking around the scene, the officer found a blunt containing .2 grams of marijuana between the students and the wall.

Both students were cited and released at the scene. September 20 A UA student was arrested for driving under the influence on Tuesday at approximately 2:25 a.m. Around 1:58 a.m., an officer from the University of Arizona Police Department pulled the vehicle over for swerving into the far left lane with the intention to turn and jerking the vehicle back into the right lane.

When the officer went to speak to the student, the student rolled down the back seat right window instead of his own. He then realized his mistake and rolled down the correct window.

While the student looked for his registration and proof of insurance, the officer noticed a strong smell of alcohol coming from the student. The student also had watery, bloodshot eyes, a flushed face and slurred speech.

When asked to step outside the vehicle, the student was unsteady while he stood.

The officer then conducted a sobriety test, and the student failed. An assistant officer was called to complete the test.

The student asked officers if he could take his shoes off to perform the rest of the test because he didn’t have any laces in them. The officers agreed, though the student still failed.

10

Page 11: University of Arizona - Campus Blotter

He was taken back to UAPD for further questioning and testing, and was found to have a BAC of 0.8.

The student was cited and release for an extreme DUI and his vehicle was impounded.

September 25 Two UA students were referred to the Dean of Students Office for possession of drugrelated paraphernalia and minor in possession of alcohol in a residence hall dorm room on Thursday at 10:35 p.m. Two University of Arizona Police Department officers were called to the residence hall because a strong smell of marijuana was coming from the fourth floor. When the officers found the room the smell was coming from, they knocked on the door.

The smell of marijuana became even stronger when the door was opened. On a desk, in plain sight, was a marijuana grinder, rolling papers and a plastic bag with what looked to be marijuana stems. About onethird of a liter of rum was sitting on another desk in the room.

Initially, the officers only saw one student in the room. They asked if they could come in to talk to him, and the student agreed. Once the officers were inside, the student’s roommate came out of the bathroom. When the officers asked where the marijuana was, the roommate admitted to flushing it down the toilet.

Both students gave the officers permission to search the room, but they didn’t find anything else.

The students did not say who provided the alcohol or the marijuana.

The rum was emptied out and bottles were thrown away. The drugrelated paraphernalia was taken for evidence.

September 26 Two UA students were arrested, cited and released for possession of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia in a UA residence hall dorm room on Monday at 9:20 p.m.

An RA reported to UAPD officers that a strong smell of marijuana was coming from one of the rooms in the residence hall.

The dorm floor’s RA took the officers to the room where the smell was coming from and officers found two UA students inside. Both students had bloodshot eyes and officers noticed their tongues had raised taste buds with a green tint toward the back of their mouths.

The students said they lived in the hall and admitted that they had smoked marijuana roughly 30 minutes before the officers arrived.

The officers were given permission to enter the room and the students gave them a white box with a rechargeable black vaporizer and a small glass jar with 0.8 grams of THC. One of the students said it was his smoking kit which he had brought from home.

Code of conduct violations were submitted to the Dean of Students Office for both students.

11

Page 12: University of Arizona - Campus Blotter

September 30 Two UA students were cited and released for minor in possession on Sept. 21 at 1:04 a.m. Two UAPD officers were on patrol near a residence hall when they spotted two students, a man and a woman, leaving a cab. The students were holding each other tightly and leaning against one another as they walked to their dorm.

Neither of the students could walk straight. As they tried to walk over the curb, they tripped and almost fell down.

UAPD officers approached the students to question them separately. The man said he had just left a house on Greek Row but couldn’t remember which one. He said he drank a lot of jungle juice.

While he was speaking, the man started vomiting. After he finished, he said he felt better.

When questioned by an officer, the woman said she had a lot of money and was wondering how much the arrest would cost. She then said she was 92 years old but corrected her age to 19, both of which were incorrect.

The Tucson Fire Department was called because of the high level of intoxication of the woman. She was told she was getting a minor in possession but didn’t understand so the officers repeated it to her six times.

After the woman was released by the TFD, she was taken to her room. TFD also took the man up to his room where his roommate promised to take care of him.

Both students received code of conduct violations, which were sent to the Dean of Students office.

October 2 A UA student was arrested and booked by University of Arizona Police Department officers on Sept. 21 at 12:05 a.m. for minor in bodily possession of alcohol in a residence hall.

UAPD officers went to the dorm to speak to a drunken student who had pushed two RAs while trying to get back to his room, after he was seen drunk at a social event in the men’s wing of the dorm. The event was shut down after RAs found out that alcohol was being served.

The student could barely walk and refused to go back to his room until he was told he was going to get written up. Ten minutes later, RAs went to the student’s room and found five men drinking jungle juice. When the RAs accused the student of drinking jungle juice, he got angry and told the RAs to call the police.

When officers arrived, an RA took them to the student’s room. The student opened the door but stood in the doorway with the door partially closed behind him. He said that he hadn’t touched any women that night, but may have touched some men “in a friendly way.” He also denied that he had told anyone to call the police.

The student smelled strongly of alcohol and had red, bloodshot eyes. He refused to take a preliminary breath test, then tried to shut the door on police officers, saying that he no longer wanted to speak to them and was ready to go back into his room.

12

Page 13: University of Arizona - Campus Blotter

As he tried to shut the door, an officer grabbed the student’s arm and took him into the hallway. As the student could not stand up straight, the officer instructed him to sit by the wall, but the student refused. The officer repeated his instructions and the student again refused.

As the officers continued speaking to him, the student began showing mood swings. He was joking and lighthearted one moment, then uncooperative and angry the next. At one point, he tried to convince an officer to punch him, saying, “I can sue the shit out of you.”

UAPD officers were called to a fraternity party on Sept. 21 at 12:20 a.m. due to loud noises coming from the fraternity house.

When officers arrived, they saw two to three people outside and heard a lot of noise coming from inside the building. A slight scent of alcohol was also present in the area.

When officers spoke to the fraternity president and vice president, who were standing at the back entrance of the house, the students apologized and one went inside to quiet everybody down. Both students strongly smelled of alcohol and said they were standing in the back to make sure only members of their fraternity and significant others were allowed in to the party.

The students said it was a “hangout” of about 80 people.

When officers asked if they could enter, the students said no. They added that everything inside was OK and everyone was about to leave.

Officers told the students that people who did not live there should leave, and people who did should get to their rooms.

As officers were walking out, they could hear voices coming from inside the building yelling, “Shut the fuck up,” and “Be quiet.”

The Greek Life Dean of Students was contacted and notified of the situation.

A UA student was taken from a UA residence hall to the University of Arizona Medical Center for extreme intoxication on Sept 21 at 2:31 a.m.

At 2:17 a.m., a UAPD officer responded to a call from the students’ roommate, who was worried about how drunk the student was. The Tucson Fire Department responded as well.

The student smelled strongly of alcohol, had bloodshot eyes and there was vomit next to his bed.

As a TFD official looked through the student’s wallet for a valid I.D., a fake I.D. fell out. When the student was asked where he was really from, he replied, “Alcohol.”

TFD decided the student was not OK so stay in his room for the night and took him to UAMC, where he was monitored overnight.

The student was cited and released for minor in bodily possession of alcohol and possession of a fictitious outofstate drivers license.

UAPD officers were outside of a residence hall when they saw a student exit a cab and stumble backwards for about 15 feet until he fell into a large puddle of water.

Officers went to check if the student was injured and saw that he was extremely drunk. He had red, bloodshot eyes and smelled strongly of alcohol. He couldn’t stand up straight and swayed back and forth.

The student said he had been at an offcampus house party and had “drank hard.”

University of Arizona Medical Services and the Tucson Fire Department arrived to see if the student was OK.

After an evaluation, they released the student to his friend to be cared for. The student was walked to his dorm room by his friend.

The student said that he was underage and had been drinking a lot of beer that night. He also said that he was only throwing up “just a little bit,” but would not say where he had been drinking.

TFD was called to evaluate the condition of the student, who had bloodshot, watery eyes and smelled strongly of vomit and alcohol.

Shortly before TFD arrived, the student’s friends came to pick him up. They said they were sober and came there to help their friend.

TFD released the student and allowed the student’s friends to take him home.

The UA student was cited and released. He was also referred to the Dean of Students Office for a code of conduct violation.

A UA student was taken to University of Arizona Medical Center for extreme intoxication after she was found in the passenger seat of a parked car on campus on Sunday at 3 a.m.

At about 2:40 a.m., a UAPD officer saw a man leaning over a woman, trying to get her in a car. The passenger seat was reclined back, and she appeared to be passed out.

The man then shut the door, locked it, and began to walk away. The officer approached the man to ask about the woman.

The man said he had taken her out of the house and to the car to help her feel better. He then walked back to his car and opened the door to let the woman out.

Still reclined, the woman began vomiting on herself. The officer called for medical assistance as the woman continued to throw up on herself.

The Tucson Fire Department arrived to evaluate the woman, and determined she needed to be taken to UAMC for immediate hospitalization.

At 6:10 a.m., once the woman was awake, she told officers that she had been drinking heavily and didn’t remember how she got so drunk.

October 7 On Sunday, at 2:15 a.m., UAPD officers diverted a UA student to the Dean of Students office for underage alcohol consumption on campus. Officers saw a car make a wide turn into a middle lane while the right lane was completely open to traffic. Officers stopped the car for a routine check.

As officers were talking to the driver, they smelled alcohol coming from the passenger’s side of the car. The driver of the car said she had not been drinking that evening.

The officer then asked the passenger. She said yes and that she was under 21.

Officers had both of the women take breath tests. The passenger’s test showed there was alcohol present in her system. She also had bloodshot, watery eyes and swayed when standing.

The passenger said she had been drinking mostly vodka at a fraternity house that evening. The driver was given a verbal warning for the improper turn.

The passenger was not arrested but was diverted to the Dean of Students office for liquor violation.

On Sunday, at 12:48 a.m., a UAPD officer diverted a UA student to the Dean of Students office for minor in possession of alcohol.

While an officer was driving on campus as part of a regular campus watch, he saw a man helping a woman walk down a road. The woman then bent over and began throwing up.

The officer parked and went over to check on the woman. As he talked to her, he noticed that her eyes were red and glassy and she swayed while trying to stand.

The officer walked her over to a nearby bench so she could sit while he spoke to her.

She told the officer she was fine though she had been drinking earlier that night. She said they were on their way back from the man’s fraternity house. When asked, neither the man nor woman admitted to drinking at the fraternity house.

No other legal action was pursued.

October 9 On Sunday at 11:49 p.m., a University of Arizona Police Department officer arrested a UA student near campus for possession of drug paraphernalia. While an officer was monitoring traffic, he noticed a car’s driver side headlight was out and pulled it over.

The car had three UA students inside. The student in the passenger seat said the vehicle was his, but he had left his vehicle registration and proof of insurance in his room.

The officer said he could smell marijuana coming from the car. The students said there was no marijuana in the car at that particular time, but there had been at some point in the past.

Two more UAPD officers came to the scene. They split up the passengers as one officer talked with the owner of the car.

The owner said that he was “pretty sure” there wasn’t any marijuana or drug paraphernalia in the car. Officers requested to search the car.

They found a metal grinder with some marijuana residue inside. They also found a few clear plastic bags with marijuana residue.

The owner admitted that everything belonged to him. Officers gave the owner a criminal citation for possession of drug paraphernalia and released him.

A UA student was diverted to the Dean of Students Office on Monday at 7:10 p.m. for having a fake identification card.

The wallet had been turned in to UAPD. While looking in the wallet for the owner’s information, two IDs from different states were found. One ID was real while the fake ID stated the owner of the wallet was 21 years old.

UAPD contacted the owner of the IDs and told her to go to UAPD to claim her wallet.

16

Page 17: University of Arizona - Campus Blotter

When she arrived, officers asked her about the fake card. She said her old roommate had given it to her as a gift, but she had never used it or planned to use it.

UAPD confiscated the card.

October 10 Three UA students were diverted to the Dean of Students Office for possession of marijuana and drug paraphernalia on Oct. 3 at 8:37 p.m.

A resident assistant called University of Arizona Police Department officers after noticing a strong scent of marijuana coming from a student’s room.

When officers knocked on the door, a UA student opened the door, but told officers he did not live there. The student who did live in the room came up behind him and told the officers they could come in.

The students inside were hesitant to say whether or not they had marijuana, and asked officers what would happen if they said they did not have any. An officer said he would get a search warrant because the strong smell of marijuana coming from the room proved there was some in there.

The students admitted they did have marijuana, but said they had smoked it all. They gave the officer an empty plastic bag, a purple glass pipe and a cigarette replica pipe. They also handed officers a blue and yellow glass pipe and a metal grinder with 0.9 grams of marijuana inside.

Officers searched the room for other illegal drug paraphernalia, but didn’t find anything.

The students were referred to the Dean of Students Offices for diversion.

October 11 A UA student was diverted to the Dean of Students office for underage drinking on Friday at 1:30 a.m., after another student called the University of Arizona Police Department and reported a student throwing up on the eighth floor of a residence hall.

When officers arrived, the Tucson Fire Department was already at the student’s dorm room evaluating her. She was having trouble standing up correctly and balancing.

While TFD evaluated the student, UAPD officers spoke to her friend.

He said she had gone out that night but had came back to hang out with him and some of his friends in a different dorm room in the residence hall.

He said she seemed disoriented and at one point had fallen asleep on one of their beds. After she had been sleeping for awhile, she got up, walked quickly to the bathroom and began to throw up.

After she had been vomiting for a while, she yelled to one of her friends and asked them to call 911.

TFD officials said the student would not need to be taken to a hospital and could stay in her dorm room for the night with under her roommate’s supervision.

17

When officers spoke to the student, she said she had been drinking champagne though she didn’t know where.

She was diverted to the Dean of Students for underage drinking.

October 14 Two UA students were cited and released for possession of marijuana and drug paraphernalia at ArizonaSonora Residence Hall on Tuesday at 8:20 p.m.

Two UAPD officers met with a resident assistant who told them a student had complained about having seen drug paraphernalia in a room. The RA took the officers to the reported room where they could smell marijuana. The resident of the room opened the door and let the officers in.

When the officers entered the room, the smell of marijuana grew stronger. Another UA student was also in the room, who claimed he was visiting the resident. The officers told the student why they were there and the student asked the officers if they wanted the marijuana that was in his room.

The student then handed the officers a plastic container with marijuana from his desk and a glass water pipe, which the student claimed he had been smoking with. He told the officers he had a medical marijuana card from California, but knew it wasn’t valid on campus.

An officer spoke to the student and read him his Miranda rights. The student said he bought his marijuana from “some guy” at Tyndall Avenue Garage. He believed he was a student as well and was referred to him by a friend.

The officer asked him if he had more drug paraphernalia and he said he had another glass water pipe and a homemade “gravity bong.” The student stated he uses both to smoke out of and that he and his friend had been smoking out of them just minutes prior to the officers’ arrival.

The officers also questioned the visitor, who admitted to have been smoking with the resident, but claimed none of the paraphernalia was his and that he doesn’t purchase marijuana for his personal use.

The visitor was charged with possession of marijuana and the resident with possession of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia. Both were cited and released.

A UA student was charged with possession of marijuana, possession of drug paraphernalia and possession of prescription drugs, on Tuesday at approximately 3:10 p.m., after being pulled over by a UAPD officer who was conducting speed enforcement.

The officer pulled the student over for going 45 mph in a 30 mph zone near the intersection of Sixth Street and National Championship Drive.

While the student was looking for his registration, the UAPD officer smelled marijuana and saw a bag of marijuana inside the driver’s side map pocket. After searching the vehicle, the officer found a black container with a marijuana pipe and lighter and a baggie of four white pills and one gray pill inside.

18

Page 19: University of Arizona - Campus Blotter

The pills were confirmed to be a generic form of Ritalin by the Poison Control Center. The student said he had no idea the marijuana and pipe were in his car and claimed it was his friends because they borrow his car frequently.

He said the pills were his but were in his car in case of an emergency. The student was charged and released at the scene.

October 15 University of Arizona Police Department officers arrested a UA student for possession of marijuana and drug paraphernalia in a residence hall on Oct. 4 at about 10:25 p.m.

A resident assistant called UAPD after finding marijuana in a student’s room. When officers arrived, the RA took them to the room, where another RA was waiting with the student.

When the officers entered the room, they saw two mason jars of marijuana on the student’s desk.

The student said he had been in his room with the door slightly open when he heard a knock. He tried to hide the jars inside his desk, but his RA walked in and saw them.

The student told officers he bought his marijuana offcampus and smoked every other day. He had bought 11 grams for $110 two days before.

He also handed officers a small pill bottle with marijuana in it that he said was used in a vaporizer, though the vaporizer was broken so he no longer had it. He would not tell officers who sold him the marijuana.

Officers searched the room, but found no more contraband.

The student was arrested, cited and released. A code of conduct referral was sent to the Dean of Students Office.

October 16 Two UA students were charged with possession and use of marijuana on Oct. 9 at 12:43 a.m., after a University of Arizona Police Department aide reported seeing the students smoking on top of Cherry Avenue Parking Garage. One of the students was also charged with possession of drug paraphernalia.

The aide told a UAPD officer that she saw the two students leaving the garage and heading north toward University Boulevard. The officer stopped the students at a parking lot on Cherry Avenue and had them lean against the front of his patrol car while he questioned them.

The officer searched the students’ pockets, but didn’t find any marijuana or drug paraphernalia.

The aide radioed the officer and said she had found rolling papers near a stairwell of the garage. A second officer went to the parking lot and kept an eye on the students while the first officer went to search the stairwell.

The officer found a black plastic box with rolling papers and green flakes. The police aide found a burnt marijuana joint. The officer then went back to talk to the students.

19

Page 20: University of Arizona - Campus Blotter

The officers spoke with each student separately. An officer showed one of the students what he’d found by the stairwell and asked if he’d been smoking, and the student said he hadn’t.

The officer told the student to tell the truth. The student then confessed that he and the other student had been smoking in the parking garage.

The students were cited and released and two code of conduct referrals were sent to the Dean of Students Office.

UAPD officers went to a walkway near Bear Down Gymnasium in response to a report of a man sleeping next to some benches.

The officers found a man on his knees, slumped forward with his face toward the ground. They shook the man to wake him and had him sit on the nearby benches, where they found out he was a UA student.

UA Student Emergency Medical Services arrived and evaluated the student, who had red, watery bloodshot eyes, a flushed face and trouble balancing. He also smelled of alcohol.

The student told the medic evaluating him that he had had six to eight beers at a house party.

The medics cleared him and an officer drove the student back to his residence hall.

He was diverted to the Dean of Students Office.

October 18 A UA student was taken to the University of Arizona Medical Center on Oct. 11 at approximately 12:44 a.m. for extreme intoxication.

A resident assistant first contacted the University of Arizona Police Department for medical assistance after learning of the student’s condition at a residence hall.

UAPD officers and Tucson Fire Department personnel arrived but University of Arizona Emergency Medical Services was already evaluating the student.

The student was laying on the floor of her room with a trash can over her head.

The student told medical personnel she had drank too much alcohol and just wanted to go to bed.

Her friend told officials they had been with her that night and that she had drank at an offcampus fraternity house.

TFD personnel assessed the student’s condition and decided to take her to UAMC for extreme intoxication.

The student was not arrested, but was issued a referral to the Dean of Students Office.

The resident assistant told officers he smelled marijuana coming from one of the rooms, followed by the sound of an aerosol can being sprayed and the scent of air freshener.

Officers knocked on the door and informed the student that they were there due to a report of marijuana. They then asked the student if there was marijuana in the room.

The student retrieved an iPad box from his closet. In the box was a small bag of marijuana, several empty bags, a metal grinder, a glass pipe, a lighter and a homemade filter.

The student told them he had attended a party at an apartment complex, and had received the marijuana there. The student said he didn’t know who gave him the drugs or who owned the apartment he’d been in.

The student then admitted to having smoked marijuana in his room about an hour before officers arrived. When asked if his roommate was also in possession of drugs, the student responded he didn’t think so.

The student was diverted to the Dean of Students Office for possession of marijuana and paraphernalia. He was also issued a warning against drug use on campus.

October 21 A resident assistant at ManzanitaMohave residence hall called the University of Arizona Police Department to report the smell of marijuana coming from a UA student’s room on the fifth floor.

UAPD officers went to the room and knocked on the door. When the resident opened the door, the smell grew stronger. The officer asked if he could come in and talk about the smell, and the resident said yes.

The resident said there was no marijuana in the room at the time because he had smoked it all earlier. The officer began searching and found a clear Tupperware container in the desk drawer of the resident that contained a smoking pipe and a scented dryer sheet. He then found another clear Tupperware container that had marijuana residue in it.

The resident admitted that the items were his and displayed symptoms of marijuana use at the time.

The student was diverted to the Dean of Students Office for possession of drug paraphernalia.

A PTS employee reported two men climbing over the locked gate and said they were on the roof of the building. The officer called a second officer for assistance, and they went to the roof of the garage where they immediately smelled marijuana.

The officers looked around on the roof and found three male UA students, one of whom was smoking marijuana out of a multicolored pipe. The officers also found a plastic baggie with a grinder and an empty plastic container. One of the students immediately handed officers his medical marijuana card from California and claimed he had purchased his marijuana in California.

Two of the three students were released and charged with possession of marijuana paraphernalia, and the third was charged with second degree criminal trespassing, since he did not have any drug paraphernalia and was not smoking marijuana but was seen climbing around the locked gate to access the roof.

The remaining paraphernalia and marijuana were collected and entered into UAPDevidence.

October 22 A UA student was cited for minor in possession of alcohol at about midnight on Oct. 13.

An officer from the University of Arizona Police Department was walking past Coronado Residence Hall when he noticed a UA student yelling and swaying as he walked down the street.

At one point the student yelled, “Suck my dick.” The officer then approached the student to conduct a welfare check, catching up with him in front of ArizonaSonora Residence Hall.

The officer noticed the smell of alcohol on the student’s breath, as well as his bloodshot, watery eyes and slurred speech, and asked the student to provide identification.

The student initially replied, “I don’t think I need to do that,” but when the officer asked a second time, the student provided his identification.

The officer conducted a sobriety test and found the student to be intoxicated.

He admitted to having four beers while at an offcampus party, but would not say who provided the alcohol.

The student was cited and released and a code of conduct referral was forwarded to the Dean of Students Office.

The officer asked the two students to step out of the room. Both had watery, glassy red eyes. The officer told the students that the room smelled like marijuana.

The resident told the officer he had a vaporizer, but had smoked all of his marijuana. He said he had bought the marijuana somewhere offcampus for $10, but could not recall where. The UAPD officer reentered the room with the student, confiscated the vaporizer and cited the student for possession of drug paraphernalia.

The visiting student admitted to smoking marijuana, but said the drugs and vaporizer didn’t belong to him.

The officer completed and forwarded code of conduct referrals for both students to the Dean of Students Office.

October 24 University of Arizona Police Department officers arrested a UA student on charges of minor in possession of alcohol in body on Friday at 1:30 a.m.

Earlier that evening, UAPD officers in the lobby of a residence hall saw two women walk through and go to the elevators. One woman, who seemed sober, was helping the other, who had vomit running down the front of her shirt and pants.

As the women waited for the elevator, officers noticed the woman being supported was struggling to keep her balance.

While the two women and officers rode in the elevator, the officers began speaking to the women. They noticed both women smelled strongly of alcohol.

The more sober woman said she was a UA student and lived in the residence hall. She said the other woman was her friend who was just beginning her second year of high school, and was visiting from California for Family Weekend.

She said they had gone to several offcampus parties that evening and settled at a fraternity party. A UA fraternity pledge escorted the women that evening and was their designated driver.

The student admitted to drinking more than five shots of raspberry vodka in the first two hours and said she was unsure how much her friend had drunk at the parties.

While the student was describing the evening’s activities to officers, the visiting girl could not keep her balance and had to sit down.

The Tucson Fire Department was called to evaluate the girl’s condition. It was determined that she should be taken to the University of Arizona Medical Center for further medical treatment.

The girl’s parents were contacted and met medical officials at UAMC.

The UA student and the visiting girl were cited and released for minors in possession of alcohol in the body. The girl was released to her father after being treated at UAMC.

The onduty resident assistant called UAPD officers because a strong smell of marijuana was coming from one of the dorm rooms.

When the officers walked into the hall, they smelled marijuana along with a strong odor of dryer sheets.

Officers knocked on the door and were met by two students. After getting permission to go inside the room, the officers entered to search the area and speak with the students.

The students denied using any sort of drugs or having drug paraphernalia and said that the boys down the hall were always smoking.

During the search, officers found an empty pink Ziploc bag that had contained marijuana. They also found seven cans of Rolling Rock, one Coors Light can, 14 Miller Lite cans, and a 40ounce bottle of Steel Reserve in the refrigerator, along with threequarters of a handle of Skyy Vodka in the freezer.

The students said the alcohol was their friend’s, who had hid it in their room while his parents were in town.

The alcohol was dumped out and thrown away. The RA was given the information to bring residence life charges against the students.

UAPD officers then cited and released the students on the spot. Code of conduct referrals were sent to the Dean of Students Office for both students.

UAPD officers were called to the Hillenbrand Aquatic Center because the motion alarm had been set off. When officers arrived, they saw two students running from the pool.

One student stopped running but the other ran down an alley. He continued running but was caught and brought back to the center.

The student told the officer there were three to four more students inside the center and that he had not jumped in the water. The officer noted the smell of alcohol coming from the student’s breath.

The student went on to admit that he and the other students had hopped the northwest wall of near the stretching mats. All of the other students except for him had climbed to the high dive and jumped off but he had “chickened out.”

After refusing to take a breath test, the student admitted to having taken three shots of Captain Morgan outside of Coronado Residence Hall about an hour before they went to the center.

The other student told the officers he had taken shots earlier that evening as well and that he had climbed to the high dive and jumped into the pool but immediately got out and left the building. The building was searched but no other students were found.

Both students were arrested, cited, and released. Two Code of Conduct forms were sent to the Dean of Students Office.

October 29 A UA student was arrested on alcoholrelated charges while outside the Alpha Phi sorority house on Thursday at 10:20 p.m.

A UAPD officer was working date dash security detail for the sorority by watching the students load onto the buses that would take them to the date location. While watching them board, the officer saw a student finish off a canned drink then crumple it up and throw it into the Alpha Phi lawn as he and another student got on the bus.

The officer picked up the empty 23.5 ounce Four Loko pineapple flavored drink can and went to the bus to pull the student off. The officer then noticed the student had watery eyes and smelled strongly of alcohol as he spoke.

When asked his name, the student lied and the officer informed the student that it was illegal to give false information to officers. The student then gave his real name and admitted to being cited previously by UAPD on alcohol charges.

The student was arrested, cited and released for minor with spirituous liquor in the body, minor in possession of alcohol, and drinking in public. He received a warning for providing false information and criminal littering.

University of Arizona Police Department officers received a call that evening about a woman on the ground by Tyndall Avenue Parking Garage. When the officers arrived, they found a woman dressed in a black bunny costume lying on the ground, not moving. The woman seemed to be drifting in and out of consciousness.

Officers were able to find her wallet and identify her as a UA student.

University of Arizona Student Emergency Medical Services arrived on scene to evaluate the student. The Tucson Fire Department was also called because the student was unresponsive.

When the woman was able to speak, she told SEMS that she had taken four shots of vodka, Adderall and several weight loss pills.

UAPD officers noticed the woman’s watery and bloodshot eyes. She slurred her words when attempting to speak to officials, and a strong smell of alcohol was on her breath.

At that point, the student was taken to University of Arizona Medical Center to be treated for extreme intoxication. An ambulance arrived to take the student to the UAMC. Someone had to help her stand up because she could not do so on her own.

The student was diverted to the Dean of Students Office and no further legal action was taken.

UAPD officers were on patrol for a sorority event earlier that evening. While patrolling, they noticed two men and a woman walking in front of them.

One of the men walking turned and saw the patrol vehicle. Then, he threw something against a wall east of the Kappa Alpha Theta sorority and started running westbound, leaving the woman and other man behind.

Officers turned on their emergency lights and followed the running man. As officers got out of the vehicle, the man turned around and looked at them, then kept running.

Officers continued to follow the man into an alley. As they got close to a dumpster, the man came out from behind it with his hands raised above his head.

The student was handcuffed and taken back to the patrol vehicle. When they got back to the car, they saw the other man and woman had left and were unable to track them down.

The handcuffed student admitted to throwing an unopened 12ounce bottle of Bud Light Platinum when he saw the patrol car. His breath smelled heavily of alcohol and he had bloodshot, watery eyes.

The student would not give the names of the people who were with him or tell the officers how they had gotten the alcohol.

He was cited and released on charges of minor in possession of alcohol in the body.

A code of conduct referral was sent to the Dean of Students Office for the student.

Officers were called to the ArizonaSonora Residence Hall to help a drunken student in need of medical assistance.

They met the drunken student’s roommate in the lobby of the residence hall, along with TFD paramedics, and were escorted to the student’s dorm room.

When they entered the room, they found the student lying down. She had watery, bloodshot eyes and slurred speech, but was coherent and able to answer questions.

The student’s roommate said she had called the paramedics because the drunken student had been unconscious earlier. She was also worried because another woman had tried to gag the drunken student to induce vomiting, but when she pulled her finger out of the student’s throat, there was blood on her fingertip.

It was determined by the paramedics that the student did not need to be taken to UAMC for evaluation.

The student was referred to diversion but told that she could be arrested at a later point in time.

October 31 A UA student was taken from the Herbert K. Abrams Building to the University of Arizona Medical Center for extreme intoxication on Sunday at 2:49 a.m.

University of Arizona Police Department officers received a call from the Tucson Fire Department about a man on the ground outside of the Abrams building and went to see if he was OK. When officers arrived, they found a UA student lying on the sidewalk, speaking to TFD officials. The student was overheard excitedly telling medical personnel, “I’m drunk!” and slurring his words as he was evaluated.

Officers noted that it was very hard to understand the student due to his slurring and could not verbally identify him.

The officers then tried to identify him by asking for the student’s ID. The student agreed to give the officer his wallet with identification inside. The officer waited but the student made no effort to hand over his wallet. When the officer asked again, the student looked at the officer and said, “I did.”

An officer asked the student if he could get the ID out of the student’s wallet and the student said yes. While getting the ID, officers found two California licenses, one real, the other fake, stating the student was six years older than he actually was.

At that point, TFD’s evaluation determined that the student should be taken to the UAMC for treatment for extreme drunkenness.

A referral to the Dean of Students Office for minor in possession of alcohol and possession of a fictitious outofstate drivers license was completed on behalf of the student.

The fake drivers license was placed into evidence.

November 1 A UA student was arrested for possession of marijuana and drug paraphernalia in Coronado Residence Hall on Sunday at 1:30 a.m.

A University of Arizona Police Department officer was called to the hall when a resident assistant reported smelling marijuana coming from a dorm room.

The officer was escorted to the room where he heard the voices of men and a woman inside.

When the officer knocked on the door, he heard rustling noises coming from inside the room. A few moments later, the student who lived in the room opened the door.

The officer asked if he could enter the room to speak with the student, and the student agreed.

The officer told the student that he had been called because of the strong smell of burnt marijuana, after which the student admitted to having the drug in his room.

He went into the bathroom and produced a multicolored glass pipe, metal grinder with marijuana residue still inside and a filter to mask the scent.

He then walked over to a desk and retrieved a “tightvac” black can with marijuana inside.

The student was cited and released.

A code of conduct was sent to the Dean of Student’s Office on behalf of the student though the other students present were not charged.

A UA student was arrested for possession of marijuana and paraphernalia at Arizona Sonora Residence Hall on Sunday at 1:30 a.m.

A UAPD officer was conducting residence hall checks, and as he was leaving, he could smell marijuana. He walked around to a small, walledoff patio area south of the dorm.

As he walked closer to the area, the smell became stronger. There was only one student sitting in the area.

The officer spoke to the student and asked if he had been smoking marijuana that evening. The student denied it.

The officer noticed the student had red, watery eyes and raised, green taste buds.

When asked to empty his pockets, the student pulled out an empty white grape flavored cigarillo pack.

At that point, the student admitted to having finished a joint right before the officer had turned the corner but the cigarillo package in his pocket just happened to be there.

Additional UAPD officers came to the area to help search the student’s dorm room.

In the search, the officers found rolling papers and two cigarillos packages with marijuana residue on a table. The student referred to the table as his “rolling station.”

28

Page 29: University of Arizona - Campus Blotter

Inside of the student’s desk were three large Ziploc bags full of marijuana and a Tupperware container full of marijuana. There were also several empty marijuana containers, a scale and a glass pipe.

The total weight of the marijuana was approximately 386.5 grams. The student was arrested, cited and released at the scene.

A code of conduct form was sent to the Dean of Students Office.

November 4 University of Arizona Police Department officers referred two UA students to the Dean of Students Office for minors with spirituous liquor in the body in the parking lot of Coronado Residence Hall on Friday at 1:36 a.m.

Two officers were leaving the Coronado lobby when a student approached the officers and told them about his friend who had fallen outside and cut her face.

The officers immediately went to aid the woman, but found an ambulance from the Tucson Fire Department already taking care of her. She had an abrasion to the right side of her head near her temple and had thrown up in the parking lot after hitting her head.

The student told officers that the woman had been at a Delta Chi party with him and had been drinking wine. They were walking home after the party when she tripped and hit her head. After she stood up, she began to throw up.

As the student spoke to the officers, they noted that he had red, watery eyes, slurred his speech and smelled strongly of alcohol. TFD told the officers the woman would be released because her abrasion was minor and she was able to speak.

The officers got the ID of the student and had to ask for the woman’s identification three times because she kept misspelling her name.

The officers determined the students were both underage and the students received a minor in possession and were deferred to the Dean of Students Office.

November 5 A UA student was diverted to the Dean of Students Office on charges of minor in possession of alcohol on Friday at 11:57 p.m.

A University of Arizona Police Department officer was patrolling around Helen Street and Cherry Avenue when he saw suspicious movement in the bushes. He saw a woman stand up from a squatting position inside the bush. As the officer got closer, he could see the woman had her skirt, underwear and leggings pulled down around her ankles.

When the woman saw the officer, she pulled up her clothing and said, “Sorry, I really needed to pee.”

As she spoke, the officer noticed her watery eyes, slurred speech and the strong smell of alcohol coming from her breath. The student said she was alone and had been drinking at a friend’s house earlier that evening but was not sure where the house was. She said that she had taken several shots of alcohol.

UAPD officers diverted a UA student to the Dean of Students Office on Friday at 2:01 a.m. for charges of minor in possession of alcohol.

UAPD officers were called to the women’s restroom on the third floor of ApacheSanta Cruz Residence Hall. When the officers arrived, they found a student slouched over a toilet.

The stall the student was in smelled strongly of alcohol. Officers tried to speak to the student but could not understand her when she spoke. Her speech was slurred and she could not lift her head from the toilet.

The student’s roommate was able to speak on the student’s behalf and she gave officers the student’s identification and general information.

The roommate said the student had gone out with other friends that evening to a fraternity party. When the roommate returned, she found the student drunk.

The student asked her roommate to call the Tucson Fire Department because she thought she drank too much alcohol and needed to go to the hospital.

After TFD evaluated the student, it was determined that the student needed to be taken to the University of Arizona Medical Center. She was then diverted to the Dean of Students office.

November 6 UAPD officers arrested a UA student for minor in bodily possession of alcohol in the Coronado residence hall on Friday at 2:30 a.m.

Earlier that evening, a student called The Tucson Fire Department to report his brother, who was extremely drunk and in need of medical attention. UAPD officers arrived to the dorm at the same time as TFD and University of Arizona Emergency Medical Services.

The emergency service officials were taken to the fifth floor where they found the drunken student. He smelled strongly of alcohol with red, watery eyes.

He began to speak, but it was difficult to understand what he was saying because of his slurred speech. While trying to speak, he said that he only had a small amount of alcohol to drink that night at a location he didn’t know.

As TFD and UAEMS officials evaluated the drunken student, his brother spoke to UAPD officers, offering to take care of his brother for the night so he wouldn’t have to go to the hospital.

TFD determined that the student would be able to stay in his room as long as his brother was taking care of him.

The student was cited and released at the scene. A code of conduct form was also submitted on his behalf to the Dean of Student’s office.

On Saturday at approximately 2:55 a.m., UAPD officers diverted seven students to the Dean of Students Office for underage drinking.

UAPD officers received a call from a cab driver who was passing by the Delta Chi fraternity house and saw eight students throwing rocks at the house.

When officers arrived at the house, they found the students still outside.

The students were identified by their CatCards, and when questioned by UAPD officers, they each gave a different story as to where they were coming from and what they were doing.

Seven of the eight students had red, bloodshot eyes and flushed faces and smelled heavily of alcohol. They admitted to drinking earlier that night at an offcampus party.

Only one student denied drinking that evening. When given a preliminary breath test, he was found to be telling the truth.

The seven drunken students were diverted to the Dean of Students Office and released at the scene.

November 8 A UA student was arrested for possession of drug paraphernalia on Tuesday at 2:59 a.m. in Apache Santa Cruz Residence Hall.

Earlier that evening, the resident assistant on duty called UAPD and reported smelling marijuana coming from one of the dorm rooms on the second floor.

Officers knocked on the door to speak to the student who lived there. The resident who answered the door said his roommate had been smoking weed before the police arrived. However, the roommate was no longer in the room.

Officers noticed the student did not show signs of marijuana use while he was speaking and asked for him to call police when his roommate arrived back in the room.

Checking up on the student’s whereabouts, a UAPD officer later arrived to the dorm room. He knocked but got no response. He called the student who initially opened the door. The student said that he was not in the room but would be shortly.

The student later came back to the room and met the officer. Although he said he did not know if his roommate was inside, he opened the door to let the officer in.

The roommate was found sleeping in his bed and was woken up by the officer. He agreed to a room search. While searching, the officer found a glass pipe, a homemade pipe and a container with marijuana residue.

The student was arrested, cited and released. A code of conduct was also sent on his behalf to the Dean of Student’s Office.

November 12 Two UA students were arrested for underage persons with spirituous liquor in the body at 2:20 a.m. on Tuesday near the north end zone of Arizona Stadium.

31

Page 32: University of Arizona - Campus Blotter

Earlier that evening, UAPD officers saw four men pulling blue plastic trash containers past the north end zone. The men appeared to be drunk, though officers weren’t certain.

When the students saw the officers’ patrol car approaching, they ran west. Two students were caught by an officer and held back while the other two students continued to run down Highland Avenue and eventually split up.

Assisting officers who ran after the students were unable to find them.

During the chase, two trash containers had been knocked over and garbage was thrown all over the sidewalk. The two students being held offered to pick up the trash and replace the trash bins. While the students were speaking, officers noted that they both had watery, red eyes and smelled strongly of alcohol.

One student denied drinking. However, when a preliminary breath test was conducted, alcohol was present in his body. He then admitted to drinking vodka at a party at The Retreat.

The other student admitted to drinking as well. Both said that they did not know where they got the alcohol from or who the two men who ran from the scene were.

The students were arrested for underage drinking. They were taken to their residence at Colonial De La Paz where they were cited and released.

A code of conduct form was sent to the Dean of Students Office.

November 13 A UA student was arrested and taken to the hospital for minor in possession of alcohol on Nov. 6 at 2:30 a.m., after an officer from the University of Arizona Police Department received a call about an intoxicated woman at a residence hall.

When the officer arrived, he spoke with a resident assistant, who said a student had knocked on her door and said she “felt weird.”

The Tucson Fire Department also responded to the scene to provide medical assistance.

The officer spoke to the student, who said she had been drinking at Alpha Epsilon Pi. She said she had drunk seven sake bombs.

While speaking with the student, the officer noticed she was slurring her words, had red watery eyes and smelled strongly of alcohol.

The student said she was gluten intolerant and was not supposed to eat pasta or drink beer, but had eaten a large pasta dinner and drunk beer earlier in the night.

She also said she had taken prescription medication prior to consuming the beer.

An ambulance took the student to the University of Arizona Medical Center for evaluation. She was also cited and released for underage drinking.

November 14 A UA student was cited and released for possession of marijuana on Saturday at 11:25 p.m.

32

Page 33: University of Arizona - Campus Blotter

A UAPD officer went to Villa del Puente Residence Hall after a resident assistant reported that a smell of marijuana was coming from one of the rooms.

The officer met with the RA and they knocked on the door of the room the smell was coming from.

When one of the residents opened the door and let the officer in, the smell of marijuana became stronger. The officer contacted the room’s other resident, who joined them.

The officer asked the two if there was marijuana present in the room. The students said that they could smell marijuana, but that the smell was not coming from their room.

Though the resident who had opened the door did not show any signs of drug use, the officer noticed the second resident had red, bloodshot eyes. The officer told him that he appeared to be under the influence of marijuana and repeated his earlier question.

The student then handed the cop a rolled marijuana cigarette that he had been holding. The other roommate said he had not smoked any marijuana.

The officer did not find any more evidence of the drug in the room.

The student under the influence was cited and released for possession of marijuana. A code of conduct referral was forwarded to the Dean of Students Office.

November 18 Two UA students were arrested for minor in possession in the body at 12:05 a.m. on Friday.

UAPD officers were working Residence Life detail when they overheard a dispatch on the radio involving a student passed out in the back of a cab outside of the Arizona Sonora Residence Hall.

Officers walked to the residence hall, where they met Tucson Fire Department.

They were able to identify the student by the CatCard she was carrying, but could not find any information about where she lived. The cab driver told officers there was another woman in the cab but that she had left.

Officers were able to track down the woman who had left but she said she only knew the student’s name and nothing else. As officers spoke to the woman, they noted that she was slurring her speech and could not stand up straight. She swayed back and forth and had red, watery eyes with smeared mascara.

She was arrested, cited and released for minor in possession in the body. The officers then went back to the student laying in the cab and determined that she would need to be taken to the University of Arizona Medical Center for extreme intoxication.

Code of conduct forms were sent on behalf of both students to the Dean of Students Office.

November 19 At around 10 p.m. on Friday, a Tucson Fire Department ambulance took a UA student from ApacheSanta Cruz Residence Hall to the University of Arizona Medical Center for extreme intoxication.

33

Page 34: University of Arizona - Campus Blotter

Earlier that evening, a resident assistant called the University of Arizona Police Department to inform officers of a student stumbling up the stairs on the third floor of the residence hall.

When officers arrived, the student was in his room sitting on a chair with his head in a trashcan.

When officers asked him if he was OK he said he “just wanted to go to bed.”

The officers noticed that the student’s breath smelled like alcohol and that he had red, watery eyes and was slurring his speech. When he stood, the student swayed back and forth, almost falling into the wall.

The officers called TFD to the scene to examine the student. He told TFD personnel he had taken several shots of vodka that night. TFD then took the student to UAMC.

The student was cited later that night and diverted to the Dean of Students Office.

A UA student was diverted to the Dean of Students Office on Friday for drinking underage.

Two UAPD officers were on patrol driving a golf cart through the Coronado Residence Hall parking lot on Friday when they saw a student sitting on a wall, leaning against another student.

When the officers approached the two women, the leaning student was unable to sit up. The officers noted that the student also had bloodshot, watery eyes and her breath smelled strongly of alcohol.

The student said “I’m OK” repeatedly, and the officers noticed her slurred speech.

The woman with her told the officers they had been at a party at the SlaughterHouse, and that she hadn’t had anything to drink, but her friend had been drinking vodka.

She told the officers that her friend had stopped drinking about two hours earlier, but she was going to stay with the friend all night to make sure she was OK.

The drunk student was diverted to the Dean of Students Office.

A UA student was diverted to the Dean of Students Office for charges of minor in possession of alcohol at 12:35 p.m. on Saturday.

Two UAPD officers were standing outside of Likins Hall when the resident assistant on duty came out and told them that a female student was passed out in a bathroom on the third floor.

The officers went upstairs to find the student conscious and breathing and asked her to come outside and speak with them.

The officers noticed the student had bloodshot, watery eyes and a flushed face and smelled of alcohol. The student told officers she had drunk three shots of vodka an hour ago, and declined medical attention.

She said the shots were provided at a “pregame” party but could not remember where the party had taken place.

Officers diverted the student to the Deans of Students Office.

November 20 A UA student was arrested for minor in possession of alcohol and false reporting to a law enforcement agency near Highland Avenue on Saturday at around noon.

Three UA students were walking near the Highland tunnel. Two of the students were sipping out of beer cans when a University of Arizona Police Department officer activated his patrol lights to get their attention.

The two students that were drinking pulled more cans of beer out of their pockets and placed them on the ground in front of the officer.

The students said they were on their way to tailgate for the football game and they thought it was okay to have open containers of alcohol on campus during game days. The officer told them they could only drink alcohol in specific tailgating areas.

The officer then asked for the students’ identification and confirmed that two of them were old enough to drink.

The third student told the officer he didn’t have a form of identification with him and said his birthday was on June 23, 1993.

The officer told the student there was no record for him under that birth date and asked again, noting the student’s bloodshot, watery eyes. The student said his birthday was on June 23, 1992 the second time, but again the officer could not find a record that matched.

The officer found a record for his name with a June 2, 1993 birth date.

After confirming it was him the student apologized for lying and said, “I have my beliefs about the statues, but I know you are just doing your job.”

The student was cited and released and referred to the Dean of Students Office. The other two students were released on the scene as well.

***

Two UA students were cited and released on drug charges while outside of Coconino Residence Hall on Saturday at 10:30 p.m.

A UAPD Officer responded to the scene after another officer advised him that he saw two students smoking in the area.

The officer saw two men walking around the area smoking and asked them to stop. One of the students quickly stopped and placed something behind a tree and then proceeded to walk toward the officer.

The officer looked behind the tree and found a wooden onehitter pipe, a multicolored glass pipe and a lighter.

The officer noticed the students had glossy eyes and their taste buds appeared to be tinted green and raised.

The onehitter and the glass pipe had burnt, green residue which looked like marijuana.

35

Page 36: University of Arizona - Campus Blotter

The student who placed the items behind the tree denied that the items were his and said he did not pay for the marijuana.

The other student told the officer the items were his and that they had been smoking marijuana before the officer saw them.

Both students were cited and released on charges of possession of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia.

November 21 A UA student was arrested for possession of a fake driver’s license and for using the fake ID to purchase alcohol on Thursday at around 1 p.m.

The fake driver’s license was discovered after the student left his wallet at the Express Document Center in the UA Main Library.

When it was found, a University of Arizona Police Department officer went through it to identify who it belonged to and found the fake license as well as a receipt from an alcohol purchase.

The student was contacted and informed the wallet had been found.

When the student arrived to pick it up, he was met by a UAPD officer, who asked to speak with him about the wallet.

The student seemed very nervous at the time and the officer asked him if he knew why he wanted to speak with him. He replied, “Because I had something in my wallet that I shouldn’t have.”

The officer showed the student the fake ID as well as a receipt from a nearby Safeway that showed a purchase of more than $100 worth of vodka and rum. The student confirmed that the fake license was his and that he had used it to buy the alcohol.

The student said he no longer had the alcohol in his possession and that he had purchased two fake IDs for $100 from the website “ID Chief,” but he only had one left because a bouncer at an unidentified bar had seized the other one.

The student was arrested and released on the scene for using the fake driver’s license, and was referred to the Dean of Students Office.

November 26 Three UA students were cited at a parking lot on Helen Street for minor in possession of alcohol on Nov. 16 at 1:30 p.m. One of the students was also arrested for an outstanding warrant from UAPD for failure to appear in court.

A University of Arizona Police Department officer was conducting a routine check when he saw two men and a woman playing football in the parking lot. The officer also noticed another man standing near a car and a woman sitting in the car who seemed to be affiliated with the three students playing football.

The officer noticed a can on the car and another in one of the students’ hands. The woman playing football had thrown a third can on the ground when she saw the officer park. When the

36

Page 37: University of Arizona - Campus Blotter

officer got closer she noticed several cans of Bud Light LimeARita on the ground and on the floor of the car.

The officer asked the students for identification. All provided their IDs except the student standing near the car. The student standing said he was 21 and began to pace around the car saying the officer was picking on “the kids.”

The officer then called an assisting officer due to the possibility of underage drinking.

A records check showed that one of the students had a warrant with UAPD for failure to appear on a charge of minor with spirituous liquor in body and was taken to Pima County Jail. A third officer was called to the parking lot to help determine which students had been drinking and who had provided the alcohol.

One of the students, who was underage, admitted to buying Strawberitas for her and her roommate who was also underage. She was arrested, cited and released at the scene for providing liquor to a minor and for a minor in possession. One other student who also showed signs of alcohol consumption was arrested, cited and released at the scene.

A code of conduct was also sent to the Dean of Students Office.

November 27 A UA student was cited and released for minor in possession of alcohol on Nov. 20 at 1:26 a.m. near First Street and Warren Avenue.

A UAPD officer noticed the student swaying as she walked east on First Street. The student seemed uncoordinated.

When the officer turned on his emergency lights, the student tried to walk faster, but became even more unsteady.

The officer asked the student if she was OK and noticed her eyes were red and her breath smelled like alcohol. The student denied drinking and said she was going to Delta Chi for her little.

The student then started crying and asking the officer why he was getting her in trouble. She said she wasn’t doing anything wrong and that the officer was getting her in trouble for helping her little. The student then denied being a member of a sorority.

The student was cited and released for minor in possession in the body and a code of conduct referral was completed on her behalf.

December 2 A UA student was diverted to the Dean of Students Office for minor in consumption of alcohol on Nov. 17 at 1:48 a.m. after he was seen leaning heavily on his friend near Villa del Puente Residence Hall. A UAPD officer approached the student and noticed that he looked younger than 21. The officer asked the student to sit down and asked him his age and if he had been drinking. The student said he was 18 and that he drank “a little bit.”

37

Page 38: University of Arizona - Campus Blotter

As the officer tested the student for signs of intoxication, the student was unable to keep his head still and his eyes kept wandering.

The student said he usually drinks once every three to four weeks and only takes about two to three shots when he does. The student told the officer it was an above average night because it was his birthday but wouldn’t say how many shots he took at an offcampus house party.

The student was diverted to the Dean of Students Office.

December 3 Two UA students were cited and released for minor in possession in body outside of Colonia de la Paz Residence Hall on Nov. 23 at 2:15 a.m.

Two University of Arizona Police Department officers were patrolling for Residence Life in an unmarked car when they heard two loud thumps on the back of their car. The officers saw two UA students walking across Highland Avenue right behind the car.

They talked to the students separately and asked what the thump was. One of the students told the officer the other student hit the trunk. The officer noticed that the student’s eyes were red, his breath smelled like alcohol and he swayed while standing. The student told the officer he’d drunk “a little.”

When the officer cited him for minor in possession, the student said, “I will fight the charge.” The student declined to do a preliminary breath test, signed the citation and walked away.

The second student told the other officer he’d hit the car to warn the officers that they were walking behind. The officer asked the student if he had thought they would suddenly put the car in reverse and run into them. The student said he was being courteous.

The officer noticed the student’s eyes were red and watery and asked for the student’s ID. The student told the officer his birthdate, which indicated he wasn’t old enough to drink.

The student denied having had anything to drink, even though the officer told him his breath smelled like alcohol.

The student was cited and released for minor in possession of liquor in the body due to the symptoms the officer observed.

December 5 Two UA students were cited and released for alcohol violations on Nov. 22 at 10:30 p.m. at Park Avenue and Lowell Street. One of the students was also cited for a license violation.

Two University of Arizona Police Department officers were on Residence Life security detail when they saw the UA students walking south from ArizonaSonora Residence Hall to the Metro Wildcat convenience store. One of the students was wearing an unzipped, empty backpack.

The officers waited outside the store and saw the students walk out with a full, zippedup backpack. When the officers turned on their emergency lights, the student with the backpack kept walking east, while the other student headed north.

The officers stopped both students to talk to them. The student without a backpack admitted that there was beer in the other student’s backpack and told the officer that he paid for the beer, but

38

Page 39: University of Arizona - Campus Blotter

his friend carried it to the counter. He said he didn’t see his friend show the clerk an ID but he assumed he did because the clerk sold them the beer.

The student with the backpack told another officer he was able to purchase the alcohol with a fake ID. The student gave the officer a fake Montana driver’s license and said he was actually 19 years old.

There were two 12packs of Pabst Blue Ribbon and a sixpack of Bud Light Lime in the backpack, the student said.

Both students were cited and released for minor in possession of alcohol, and the student carrying the backpack was cited for having a fake driver’s license.

The officers poured out the two 12packs and the sixpack.

Two UA students were cited and released for possession of marijuana at Santa Cruz Residence Hall on Sunday at 10:27 p.m.

A UAPD officer met with the RA on duty at ApacheSanta Cruz Residence Hall, who had been told one of the rooms smelled like burnt marijuana.

When they went to the reported room, one of the residents opened the door, and the officer asked to speak to him and his roommate.

The officer asked one of them if there was marijuana in the room, the student said, “Yeah, it’s in the fridge.”

He then opened the fridge and handed the officer a Ziploc bag with a small amount of marijuana inside.

The student said he had bought the marijuana for $10 from someone in Oro Valley and that it belonged to both him and his roommate.

His roommate confirmed this. They said they smoked with a friend in Oro Valley and they didn’t smoke any of the marijuana on campus.

Both students were cited and released and a code of conduct violation was forwarded to the Dean of Students Office for each of them. The marijuana was placed into UAPD evidence.

December 9 A UA student was diverted to the Dean of Students Office for minor in possession in body outside of GrahamGreenlee Residence Hall on Nov. 23 at 11:35 p.m.

Two UAPD officers saw a UA student laying on the sidewalk by GrahamGreenlee surrounded by about 10 people, who dispersed when the officers approached. The student was semiconscious, had vomited on herself and smelled like alcohol. Tucson Fire Department met the officers at the scene.

The student had bloodshot eyes and her speech was slurred. She told officers she had been drinking vodka by herself in her dorm. She said she didn’t need assistance, but she wasn’t able to stand up by herself.

39

Page 40: University of Arizona - Campus Blotter

TFD determined she needed further medical attention and she was taken to the University of Arizona Medical Center.

A UA student was diverted to the Dean of Students Office for minor in possession of alcohol in GrahamGreenlee on Nov. 24 at around 1:10 a.m.

Two UAPD officers responded to a report of a drunk student in a hallway. The student was found hovering over a drinking fountain where he had been vomiting.

The student was unsteady on his feet and had bloodshot, watery eyes. The student’s friend told officers the student had been drinking vodka that night at an offcampus party.

The student’s friend took him to his dorm and his roommate said he would be home the rest of the night. The student was assigned to complete a diversion program through the Dean of Students Office.

A UA student was diverted to the Dean of Students Office for possession of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia on Nov. 26 at 11:01 p.m.

A UAPD officer met with a resident assistant in KaibabHuachuca Residence Hall in reference to a smell of marijuana coming from one of the dorm rooms, the resident of the room however, was in another room across the hall.

The officer found the student and asked to speak with her in her room.

The student asked the officer if being honest would benefit her before agreeing to let the officer into her room. Once inside her room, the student handed the officer a small Ziploc bag with gold skulls that had marijuana inside.

The student said she buys marijuana from another student on campus and regularly smokes it with her friend, adding that she usually replaces the tobacco in Swisher Sweets cigars with marijuana.

She said there weren’t any other drugrelated items in the room, but the officer found a small cigar that looked like it had marijuana in it.

Because the student was 17 years old, the officer contacted her father. The student was diverted to the Dean of Students Office and the bag of marijuana and the cigar were submitted to UAPD evidence.

December 10 Two UA students were cited and released for possession of marijuana in KaibabHuachuca Residence Hall on Tuesday at 10:50 p.m.

One of the students was also charged with minor in possession of liquor and the other student was charged with possession of drug paraphernalia. A UAPD officer met with an RA and was taken to the room that smelled like marijuana. The RA told the officer the marijuana smell could be traced to a door jam.

40

Page 41: University of Arizona - Campus Blotter

As the officer was getting ready to smell the door jam, a student walked out of the room. The officer asked if it was his room and the student said no and pointed to another student inside the room.

Both students were wearing backpacks and said they were going to the library. The resident denied having marijuana in the room and allowed the officer to search his side.

The officer also got permission to search the resident’s backpack, where he found rolling papers and a marijuana grinder which had marijuana in it. The resident said they were planning to go smoke and that the other student also had marijuana on him.

The officer then got permission to search the other student’s backpack. The officer found two unopened bottles of Corona and under those was a Ziploc bag with some marijuana in it.

The student said he got the beer from a friend and that they were planning to drink and smoke before heading to the library to study. Both students were cited and released for possession of marijuana. The resident was also cited for possession of drug paraphernalia and the other student was also cited for minor in possession of alcohol.

A code of conduct was sent to the Dean of Students Office and the items were placed into UAPD evidence.

January 15 A UAPD officer was called to Santa Cruz Residence Hall after a resident assistant reported a strong smell of marijuana coming from one of the rooms on Sunday at 10:05 p.m.

A UAPD officer made contact with the RA and noticed the smell, then the officer spoke to the student and a friend in the room. Both denied having marijuana in the room, but the student consented to a search of his side of the room. During his search, the officer found a pharmacy bag in the student’s backpack, which contained marijuana, two glass pipes and a small chocolate marijuana candy. The student said he had forgotten about his backpack and produced a medicinal marijuana card from California. The officer advised the student that he was not allowed to have marijuana on campus.

The officer then questioned the student’s friend, who denied using marijuana. The officer did not observe any symptoms of marijuana use and allowed him to leave.

As the officer continued talking to the student, he noticed a bottle of vodka. The student denied the vodka was his and said it could have belonged to a past resident of the room.

The student’s roommate then returned and gave consent for a search of his side of the room. The roommate also denied ownership of the vodka, and said his previous roommate had left several items in the room.

The officer was unable to determine who the vodka belonged to and disposed of it. The first student was cited and released for possession of marijuana and drug paraphernalia and diverted to the Dean of Students Office.

Nine individuals were cited and released for underage drinking in ArizonaSonora Residence Hall on Tuesday at around 10:19 p.m.

University of Arizona Police Department officers were doing round checks with the resident assistant when they found 20 people in a room drinking alcohol. The collegeage individuals, some UA students and some friends of students, were tested for the presence of alcohol.

Three assisting officers met with the underage drinkers to test and talk to them individually.

A nonUA affiliated man showed six signs of being under the influence and told the officer he drank three Natural Light beers.

A UA student took a breath test showing she had drunk alcohol. The student said she took three vodka shots but didn’t know who provided the vodka.

Nine of the 20 people were cited and released for underage drinking.

January 22 A student was diverted to the Dean of Students Office for underage drinking on Jan. 15 at around 1:30 a.m. at the corner of Second Street and Highland Avenue.

A University of Arizona Police Department officer approached a student whose breath smelled strongly of alcohol and who had red, bloodshot eyes. The student was unable to walk by herself and had to be held up by two friends.

The student, in very slurred speech, said she was coming from a party at Delta Chi, where an unidentified man gave her a bottle of alcohol and told her if she wanted to stay, she had to drink it.

The student said she drank because she liked the music being played and did not want to leave the party.

After a Breathalyzer test showed she was intoxicated, the officer took her and her two friends back to Colonia de la Paz Residence Hall. The student was referred to the Dean of Students Office.

A UA student was referred to the Dean of Students Office for possession of marijuana and marijuana paraphernalia at Árbol de la Vida Residence Hall on Jan. 15 at 9:30 p.m.

Two UAPD officers went to the residence hall after hearing that the smell of marijuana was coming from one of the rooms. Both residents were in the room and gave the officers permission to search their areas. One of the officers found two backpacks with marijuana in glass jars, a grinder in a sock, two glass pipes and a strange pipe system.

The resident claimed the backpacks belonged to a friend and called the friend. The friend hung up when the resident told him the police were there. The officer then called and left a message. The friend called the resident back, came to the room and told the officers the backpacks were his.

42

Two UA students were arrested on charges of underage drinking, and another student was arrested on a charge of false reporting to law enforcement at the Highland Avenue tunnel on Jan. 15 at 2:20 a.m.

A UAPD officer saw a man being supported by a woman as they walked through the Highland Avenue tunnel. The man fell down twice, bringing the woman down with him once.

The officer approached them. Their breath smelled like alcohol, they had bloodshot eyes and their speech was slurred. The man said he’d been drinking at an offcampus party and that he was 19 years old. The 19yearold woman also said she had a few vodka shots at an offcampus party.

A third student then approached them and said that he’d get them home. The officer repeatedly asked the student to step back and noticed he had bloodshot eyes and his breath smelled like alcohol. The student identified himself with a fake name and fake date of birth. When the officer couldn’t find the given name in a records check, the student admitted to lying.

The two 19yearolds were arrested on charges of underage drinking, and the third student was arrested on a charge of false reporting to law enforcement. The officer completed Dean of Students referral forms for all three students.

January 23 Two students were cited and released for underage drinking at the corner of Highland Avenue and Sixth Street on Saturday at around 2:05 a.m.

Two University of Arizona Police Department officers responded to the activation of a blue light emergency phone near Seventh Street and Highland Avenue. When they got there, the officers noticed a group of people walking north on Highland Avenue, away from the blue light phone.

When the officers asked the group if anyone had activated the blue light, the group erupted into commotion. One male student climbed on top of a green electrical cover box in the middle of Sixth Street. The group then began crossing Sixth Street against a red light.

One officer asked the student on the green electrical box to sit down on a bench. The officer noticed the student’s speech was slurred and smelled alcohol on his breath. The student admitted to drinking but would not say what he was drinking or where he had been drinking.

Another male student in the group showed signs of intoxication, including slurred speech, bloodshot eyes and breath that smelled of alcohol. The second student would not cooperate when asked if he had been drinking.

Conduct violations were sent to the Dean of Students Office for both students.

January 24 A student received diversion for minor in possession of alcohol on Saturday at 11:53 p.m.

43

A UAPD officer was driving down First Street when he noticed two female students walking down the road. When the officer got closer, one student pulled her right hand close to her chest. The student then threw a blue aluminum onto the front lawn of the Alpha Phi sorority house. The officer asked the students to stop. The officer then went over to the lawn and found a can of Keystone Light beer that was still cold.

The officer noticed no signs of alcohol consumption from either of the students. The officer then explained the UA Diversion program to the student who threw the can. The student said she understood the program and asked to be considered for it. The student then said she had received the beer at the Delta Tau Delta fraternity house.

The student was diverted to the Dean of Students Office.

January 27 A UA student was cited and released for underage drinking near Highland Garage on Jan. 19 at 12:02 a.m.

Two University of Arizona Police Department officers were patrolling the area around Highland Avenue Parking Garage when they noticed three individuals walking near the garage, one was holding a brown plastic bag. When the officers drove by, the individual with the bag swung his arm around in an attempt to conceal the bag from the officers.

The officers turned their vehicle around to stop the individuals. By the time the officers got there, the brown plastic bag was in the possession of another individual.

The officers asked the individual now carrying the bag what was inside. The individual said there was alcohol inside.

An officer then asked the student who was originally carrying the bag why he was no longer doing so. The student denied ever carrying the bag. The officers could smell alcohol on his breath, and noticed his speech was slurred and his eyes were bloodshot and watery. The student’s ID stated that he was under 21 years old. The student denied he had been drinking but refused to take a preliminary breath test. The officers placed the student in handcuffs after he became agitated and aggressive.

The officers then explained the court process to the student, who then became much more cooperative. The officers took the handcuffs off the student so he could sign his citation.

The bag contained an open bottle of E&J Brandy, which was poured out.

A Code of Conduct form was sent to the Dean of Students Office.

44

Page 45: University of Arizona - Campus Blotter

TFD began to give medical help to the student on the floor. Another student told the officer that she had been with the first student at an offcampus party. The first student had been drinking Fireball Cinnamon Whisky, according to the second student.

The student on the floor showed several signs of intoxication — slurred speech, bloodshot eyes and the smell of alcohol on the breath. She was vomiting in the trash can and could not answer any questions for TFD. The student was taken to the University of Arizona Medical Center for extreme intoxication.

The student was diverted to the Dean of Students Office.

January 28 A student was diverted to the Dean of Students Office for underage drinking at 1:55 a.m. on Jan. 16 after being found intoxicated at Highland Market.

The store manager called UAPD after seeing a student fall on her face and give herself a bloody nose. The store manager said she appeared to be drunk.

The student told the officer that she had fallen because she felt faint. However, the student’s friend informed the officer that they had recently returned from a party at the fraternity Pi Kappa Alpha.

When questioned again, the student admitted to drinking about two shots of Fireball Cinnamon Whisky at PIKE. The student smelled strongly of alcohol.

The officer left the student in the care of her friend, who was sober.

January 29 Two UA students were arrested and released for underage drinking last Sunday.

While patrolling First Street and Vine Avenue, an officer noticed two women in an odd situation: one was lying with half of her body on the sidewalk and half in a bush, and the other woman was standing over her, trying to get her out of the bush.

When the officer pulled over, the women began to walk away. The officer asked them to stop after he noticed that the woman who had been in the bush could barely walk, and asked if they needed medical attention. They both replied no and said they were just trying to get home.

When the officer asked the woman why she had been lying in the bushes, she claimed she had fallen because she was tired from walking.

While talking to the women, the officer could smell alcohol on both of their breaths and saw they both had bloodshot eyes. He asked them where they were coming from, and they replied, “A house on Greek Row.”

“The frat boys kicked us out,” one of them said.

They would not specify which house they were drinking at, and kept asking the officer to give them a warning so they wouldn’t get in trouble.

Both girls were arrested on charges of underage drinking and were released at the scene. They were diverted to the Dean of Students Office.

January 30 Two UA students were arrested last Sunday at ApacheSanta Cruz Residence Hall at around 2:34 p.m. on charges of possession of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia.

An off duty resident assistant was walking around ApacheSanta Cruz and smelled marijuana. She found two UA students in the southeast stairwell of ApacheSanta Cruz and asked what they were doing. The students replied, “Smoking marijuana.”

An on duty RA called the University of Arizona Police Department, which dispatched an officer to the scene. The two students identified themselves to the officer, who noticed the smell of marijuana coming from both students.

The officer said to the students, “We all know why we are here, correct — I mean, the smell of marijuana?” The students nodded. When asked, they said they lived in Colonia de la Paz Residence Hall.

The officer then said, “Why don’t you guys give me whatever you have left?” One of the students picked up a blue backpack and handed it to the officer. Inside was a metal grinder with marijuana in it. The officer said, “I wonder who this belongs to?” The first student pointed to the second student and said, “It’s his.” Also inside the backpack were a water pipe, several plastic baggies and another small metal grinder with marijuana in it.

Both students were Mirandized and released at the scene with criminal citations. Dean of Students Code of Conduct referral forms were completed for both students.

January 31 A UA student was diverted for underage drinking on Jan. 22 at 11:53 p.m.

A University of Arizona Police Department officer responded to a call from a resident assistant at KaibabHuachuca Residence Hall concerning a student on the bathroom floor. The RA found the student covered in vomit and unconscious in the bathroom and moved him to his room. The officer went to the student’s room and found him on the floor; he was conscious but was not responding to any questions. When the student did try to speak, his speech was very slurred and his breath smelled strongly of alcohol.

The Tucson Fire Department was called to the room and began to give medical attention to the student. Because the student was not responding to any questions, TFD called an ambulance to have him transported to the UA Medical Center for extreme intoxication. The next morning, the officer met with the student at UAMC and found him conscious and responsive. The student confirmed that he had consumed alcohol the previous night. He, however, would not say specifically how much he drank or where he drank. He just said he “drank a lot at a friend’s house.”

The officer informed him that he was being diverted to the Dean of Students Office.

Two UAPD officers were conducting rounds in the ArizonaSonora Residence Hall when they smelled marijuana coming from one of the rooms. The officers knocked on the door of the room, and the resident answered. He told the officers that his roommate was not there. The officers told him that they smelled marijuana and the student gave them permission to search the room.

The student said he had marijuana and he pulled out a vitamin bottle from the bottom drawer of his dresser. The student pulled out a baggy inside the vitamin bottle containing the marijuana. He then pulled out a glass pipe and gave it to one of the officers.

The officers explained the diversion program to the student and placed the marijuana and the pipe in UAPD evidence.

A UA student was cited and released for underage drinking on Jan. 25 at 4:32 a.m.

A UAPD officer responded to call of an extremely intoxicated student in Coronado Residence Hall. The student’s roommate said the intoxicated student said he was going to a party earlier in the night and, later on, returned to the room very drunk. The officer could smell alcohol coming off of the intoxicated student. The officer asked him if he had been drinking, and the student confirmed that he had.

TFD arrived on the scene and determined the student needed to be transported to UAMCfor further treatment. The officer later met with the student at UAMC. The student told the officer that he “drank too much last night.” The student then admitted to drinking “a lot” of Fireball Cinnamon Whisky in a residence hall but claimed not to remember how much he had consumed.

The student was issued a Code of Conduct form through the Dean of Students Office.

February 3 Four UA students received Code of Conduct violations for possession of drug paraphernalia on Tuesday at 1:00 a.m.

A UAPD officer responded to a call from a resident assistant in Coronado Residence Hall who said that while conducting rounds, she smelled marijuana coming from one of the rooms.

The RA took the officer to the room in question, and the officer also noticed the smell of marijuana coming from the room. The officer knocked on the door several times before a resident of the room responded.

When the door was opened, the smell of marijuana became stronger. The resident, his roommate and two other students were inside the room. The officer asked to speak with the residents inside the room, but the first resident said that he felt more comfortable speaking in the hallway. The officer said it was fine to speak in the hallway and spoke with each of the four students separately.

Three of the students denied smoking marijuana in the room. The first resident, however, said that while he had not been smoking marijuana, his roommates may have been.

The resident consented to a search of his side of the room. The officer found a broken glass pipe and a nail clipper bearing burn marks inside the common bathroom shared with another room. The roommate would not consent to a search of his side of the room. The two

47

Page 48: University of Arizona - Campus Blotter

residents and their suitemates, with whom they shared the communal bathroom, all denied knowing about the items.

The broken glass pipe and nail clippers were placed into UAPD evidence. The four students had the Code of Conduct violation forms forwarded to the Dean of Students Office.

February 5 A UA student received a referral for possession of a glass pipe with marijuana residue on Jan. 27 at ArizonaSonora Residence Hall.

UAPD responded to a call from a resident assistant reporting the strong smell of marijuana on the third floor. When the UAPD officer went to the third floor, he could smell a strong perfume aroma as well as the faint smell of marijuana coming from one of the rooms.

The officer knocked on the door to confirm where the smell was coming from. The resident answered and had no problem letting the officer come into the room to speak with her. As the officer entered, he saw that the other roommate was present as well.

The officer told both students that he could smell marijuana coming from the room. The two said that they didn’t have any marijuana and had not been smoking. He proceeded to ask them if he could search their room and they agreed.

After searching, the officer found a red tin box with a glass pipe that contained marijuana residue.

He asked whose it was and one of the girls replied that it was hers.

The student was referred to the Dean of Students Office.

February 6 Last Friday, one student was diverted to the Dean of Students Office at 1:25 a.m. for possession of marijuana and drug paraphernalia, and a second was referred for a Code of Conduct violation.

Two University of Arizona Police Department officers went to Coronado Residence Hall early on Friday morning because of a report of a strong smell of marijuana coming from a particular room. One resident answered the door when an officer knocked; the second student was coming out of the bathroom as the officer entered the room.

When asked if there was any marijuana in the room, both students said no. However, the second officer noticed a small bag of a green leafy substance sitting in plain sight on a desk. When asked again if they would mind the room being searched, the students exchanged glances, and one retrieved the bag from the desk and handed it to the first officer.

Inside the bag was a joint, unrolled marijuana and a grinder. The first student admitted to buying six grams of marijuana for $50 and smoking two times a week.

The student was read his Miranda rights and asked if he understood them, but replied, “Not entirely.” The officer then reread his Miranda rights and explained them to him.

Neither student was arrested. The drugs and grinder were placed into property and evidence.

A student was diverted to the Dean of Students Office for the possession of marijuana and drug paraphernalia in Coronado Residence Hall last Friday at around 11:30 p.m.

After a resident assistant reported the smell of marijuana coming from a room in Coronado, two UAPD officers were sent to investigate.

When the officers knocked on the door a student answered and identified himself as a suitemate, but not the actual resident of that room. He was asked to get the actual resident, which he did, and he was then allowed to leave since he had just arrived at the room.

The officers told the resident that they were here because of the strong odor of marijuana in his room.

He replied, “I don’t want to shit you; I have some,” and gave the officers a circular container with marijuana buds, two glass bongs with a visible residue of drugs and an orange prescription bottle with traces of dope in it.

The resident said he had gotten the bongs from a glass shop and purchased the marijuana from someone he didn’t know for $50.

When asked how he knew where to find a dealer, the resident replied, “I live in Coronado — everyone here knows where to get it.”

The resident was referred to the Dean of Students Office for diversion.

February 10 A UA student was cited for underage drinking on Feb. 2 at the corner of Park Avenue and Lowell Street at 2:45 a.m.

A University of Arizona Police Department officer noticed a student sitting on a curb, motioning for the officer to come over. As the officer drove toward the him, the student stood up and nearly fell over. He tried to enter the officer’s car through the rear passenger side door.

The student admitted to being drunk and said that he wanted a taxi to drive him to The District on Fifth apartments. The officer informed him that he was not a taxi driver, but a police officer, and

began to check the student for signs of intoxication.

The student told the officer that he had been drinking beer given to him by a friend. After the officer confirmed that the student was drunk, he was cited and then taken home in a taxi.

A student was referred to the Dean of Students Office for marijuana use at around midnight on Feb. 2.

While on patrol, a UAPD officer noticed two students hiding in the bushes near the Math building. The officer smelled weed as he got out of his cop car to confront the students.

Both students ran away, but one was caught near Villa del Puente Residence Hall. The second student got away.

The first student admitted to smoking weed, but claimed he did not know the other and had never seen him before. He said he was walking by the Math building when he saw someone smoking weed and was invited to smoke with him.

A check of the student’s records revealed that he already had a warrant for possession of marijuana from the Tucson Police Department. The student was referred to the Dean of Students Office.

The officer went back to the scene and found a black iPhone, which was used to identify the other student involved in the incident.

February 11 Two UA students were diverted to the Dean of Students Office for underage drinking in KaibabHuachuca Residence Hall on Feb. 2 at 12:13 a.m. A University of Arizona Police Department officer was making rounds in KaibabHuachuca with a resident assistant on duty. As the officer and the RA went down the stairs, they saw two male students in a room holding a plastic bag from a box of wine.

When asked, the students identified themselves to the officer and both said the bag contained wine.

One student said that the two of them had paid a friend who lives in Coronado Residence Hall approximately $20 for the box of wine. The students would not name the friend who had purchased the wine, and said they did not know where he had purchased it or what brand it was.

The two men said they planned on staying in the residence hall and drinking the wine that evening, but both denied having had any alcohol yet.

The two students were diverted to the Dean of Students Office.

A resident assistant reported to a UAPD officer that “a guy came in really drunk, being held up by his girlfriend and they went up to her room.” The officer went to the student’s room, where he found the man leaning on the bed while the woman held him by his waist to keep him from falling.

He began to vomit, and the officer instructed the women to roll him on his side.

The officer then proceeded to ask him questions, which he answered “extremely slurred and inappropriately.” The student was then written up and taken to the University of Arizona Medical Center for extreme intoxication.

February 12 A student was diverted to the Dean of Students Office for underage drinking on Saturday at 2:15 a.m. A UA student reported that her friend had been at an apartment party and had been drinking vodka all night. She was unsure how much vodka her friend had drunk, and when they left the party, she became concerned.

The student said that her friend looked pale and began to vomit, so she called a resident assistant, who then contacted the University of Arizona Police Department shortly after.

When the officer arrived, the friend was crying and saying, “I’m sorry, please don’t tell my parents!”

Paramedics arrived and decided she did not need to be taken to the hospital. She was then diverted through the Dean of Students Office for minor in possession of alcohol.

A student was cited and released for possession of marijuana and underage drinking on Saturday at 2:49 a.m. at Coronado Residence Hall.

A UAPD officer observed a student walking on the west side of Tyndall Avenue staggering from left to right. At one point, he lost his balance and bumped into a wall.

The officer approached the student and asked where he was going, and the student said he was going to Coronado. He had red watery eyes and smelled of alcohol, and spoke with slurred speech.

When asked for identification, the student struggled, swaying back and forth and pulling out many different cards that were not his license. The police officer advised the student to take a seat so he wouldn’t fall, and pointed to his license to show the student where it was.

The officer recovered a white plastic prescription bottle, which contained marijuana. When asked if the bottle was his, the student replied, “Yes.” When asked if he had drunk any alcohol, the student said he had not had any.

The officer conducted a breath test and found that the student had drunk alcohol that night. The student was then cited and released for possession of marijuana and minor in possession of alcohol in body.

February 13 A UA student was arrested on a charge of underage drinking near the Park Student Union on Feb. 7 at 12:40 a.m. A University of Arizona Police Department officer went to investigate an intoxicated man in front of Coronado Residence Hall after receiving a call. The officer witnessed the student trip over the traffic circle by Coronado and fall down, and then approached him.

The officer noticed the student had a strong smell of alcohol, red and watery eyes and difficulty walking and speaking. The student had to be propped up against a wall to keep him from falling over.

As the officer was talking to the student, he abruptly puked; at that point, UA Emergency Medical Services and the Tucson Fire Department were called.

However, the student kept insisting that he had not been drinking and was not drunk and said his current condition and vomiting were due to “eating bad sushi.”

Despite his protests, the student was still cited for minor in possession and handed over to a sober friend to be looked after.

A UA student was referred to the Dean of Students Office for urinating in public and for underage drinking on Feb. 7 at 11 p.m.

A UAPD officer was monitoring a date dash at the sorority Kappa Kappa Gamma when she noticed two women behind the house. One of the two had her skirt pulled up and was squatting down, urinating.

After the student finished, the officer approached her. The student claimed that although she lives in the sorority house, she was not allowed to use the bathroom during the date dash.

The officer also noticed that she smelled strongly of alcohol and could not stand without swaying.

The student began crying and admitted she had been drinking. The student was then cited for minor in possession and referred for public urination.

While the officer was dealing with the first student, the officer saw another woman in the parking lot of the sorority house with a Four Loko. Unable to confront the woman, the officer yelled at her to pour out the alcohol.

She did not comply, and the officer once again yelled at her to pour out the contents of the can. About five minutes later, the woman still had the Four Loko, and the officer approached her. When the woman noticed the officer coming toward her, she quickly tossed the can under a nearby truck and told the officer she had just been holding it for a friend.

When asked to identify herself, the woman gave a false last name and claimed to be 22. When the officer told her she was legally obligated to give her real name, the student complied and admitted that she was only 20.

52

Page 53: University of Arizona - Campus Blotter

The woman was cited for minor in possession and was diverted to the Dean of Students Office.

The officer also told her that if she didn’t pick up the can, she could be cited for criminal littering.

The woman retrieved the Four Loko can and left.

February 14 A UA student was diverted for possession of marijuana and drug paraphernalia on Saturday at 3:45 a.m. A University of Arizona Police Department officer was conducting parking lot checks near Fourth Street and Vine Avenue when he heard a vehicle alarm going off. The officer approached the vehicle and saw a “slight haze” coming from an open passenger door. The officer smelled burning marijuana coming from the vehicle. The officer looked inside the vehicle and didn’t see anyone inside, but saw a prescription bottle and a marijuana grinder on the back passenger seat. The officer also saw a small Ziploc bag with a green leafy substance inside on the floor of the vehicle. A second UAPD officer arrived, and the two staked out the vehicle for a while, but nobody returned. UAPD found the address of the vehicle’s owner to be Hopi Residence Hall. The Resident Assistant on duty at Hopi Lodge Residence Hall led the officer to the student’s room. The officers then talked to the student outside of his room and read him his Miranda rights. The officers explained that they had found burning marijuana inside the vehicle. The student said that he had not gone to his vehicle since 2 p.m. the previous day and did not lend it to anyone. He said one of the vehicle’s passenger doors doesn’t lock automatically and that some of his friends know about the faulty locking mechanism. The student denied ownership of the marijuana and the grinder in his vehicle and gave consent to a search of the vehicle. When the officers searched the vehicle, they found a prescription bottle with the name of another student on it. The student said the owner of the prescription bottle was a Hopi Lodge resident and may know about the faulty locking mechanism. The owner of the vehicle was diverted through the Dean of Students Office for possession of marijuana and drug paraphernalia. The officers conducted a followup with the owner of the prescription bottle in Hopi Lodge at 9:50 p.m. The officers were escorted by the resident assistant on duty to the student’s room. The student said she often goes to the grocery store with her friend in the vehicle. She said the last time she was in the vehicle was “a couple of days ago,” and the prescription bottle may have fallen out of her purse. She denied being in the vehicle earlier that day. When the officers asked if she knew about the door with the faulty locking mechanism, she said she knew about it and that anyone could have broken in.

As the officer approached the woman, he saw her step away from the fence and almost stumble into the construction area. The officer noticed her swaying and a strong smell of alcohol.

The woman identified herself and said she was a student. When asked if she had been drinking, she told the officer no. When asked a second time, she admitted to drinking a “small” amount of vodka at an on campus party.

The woman consented to a breath test and the officer confirmed that she had alcohol in her system.

After the officer verified that she did not have any weapons, he drove her to her home.

The student was then diverted to the Dean of Students Office.

A UA student was taken to the University Arizona Medical Center and cited for underage drinking Saturday.

At 3:01 a.m. a UAPD officer responded to a call from ArizonaSonora Residence Hall about an extremely intoxicated man. Upon arrival the officer found the student was sitting on his floor, with watery, glassy eyes and wet pants.

54

Page 55: University of Arizona - Campus Blotter

When asked if he had consumed too much alcohol the student replied that he had. The resident assistant said he had called for a medical evaluation after finding the student stumbling in the hallway.

The student was transported to UAMC and cited for minor in bodily possession of alcohol later that day.

February 18 A student was diverted to the Dean of Students Office for possession of marijuana on Wednesday at 10:40 p.m. Two officers responded to Árbol de la Vida Residence Hall after a report that someone had marijuana on the third floor. When the residence assistant took the officers to the third floor, there was a strong smell of marijuana coming from one of the rooms.

A female student opened the door, and one of the officers asked if she knew where her roommate was. She said yes and got her from the study room down the hall.

The officer explained he was there because of the smell of marijuana coming from their room. The student who opened the door said she did not own any marijuana and that they could search her property.

The other roommate refused a search of her property and asked what the consequences of having marijuana would be. The officer explained that she would be diverted and arrested, and that they would apply for a search warrant.

She then pulled out a baggie of marijuana from the bottom of a cabinet and said she had not smoked it since last semester. The officer took it and diverted her to the Dean of Students Office for possession of marijuana.

February 19 A UA student was transported to the University of Arizona Medical Center for extreme intoxication on Feb. 9 at 3:30 a.m. A University of Arizona Police Department officer responded to a report of a drunk student at Likins Residence Hall. When the officer arrived, University Emergency Medical Services was already checking the student’s vital signs. The student’s roommate told the officer that the student had started drinking at the Delta Chi fraternity house, then gone to the Kappa Sigma fraternity house. She said the student was drinking hard liquor, maybe whiskey or vodka, and had about five shots. The roommate told the officer the student got home at around 3 a.m. and started vomiting. The roommate called the oncall resident assistant for help. The Tucson Fire Department took the student to UAMC for extreme intoxication. The officer followed up with the student at the hospital and told her she would be diverted to the Dean of Students Office.

February 20 A UAPD officer discovered a young marijuana plant growing by the tables under the west side of Arizona Stadium on February 12. The officer found the plant growing in an area where students often go to smoke marijuana.

The incriminating plant was “plucked” by the officer and placed into property to be destroyed.

February 24 Two UA students were arrested on charges of possession of marijuana and alcohol on the top level of Main Gate Parking Garage on Feb. 14 at 12:35 a.m. A University of Arizona Police Department officer noticed a man and a woman sitting on the ground of the parking garage and approached them because of the scent of marijuana wafting off of them. Both of the students denied being high and said they could not smell anything. Two other officers arrived on the scene, and the students were separated and questioned.

The officer could not find any drugs or paraphernalia on the woman, but did discover a flask of Jack Daniel’s Whiskey in her purse. The woman admitted that the flask contained “Honey Jack.”

The man said he did not want to get his fellow student in trouble, but produced a multicolored glass pipe with marijuana still in the bowl. When asked if it belonged to the woman, he simply nodded his head.

He then pulled out a Batman flask with his name written on it and handed it over to the officer, saying that it contained vodka. After submitting to further searching, a full 50 mL bottle of SKYY Vodka was found in his right jacket pocket.

When the woman noticed that the man had given the pipe up to the police, she consented to a search, and a small baggie with half a gram of dope was found in her jacket pocket.

Both students were 19, so they were both cited for minor in possession and possession of marijuana and drug paraphernalia.

Two UA students were cited for underage drinking on Feb. 14 at 1:25 a.m. outside of Coronado Residence Hall.

Two UAPD officers were patrolling near Park Student Union when the one of the officers noticed two students get out of a car in the Coronado traffic circle. One of the students exited the vehicle and fell. After attempting to get up, she fell again and had to be helped up by her friend, who was having difficulty walking as well.

The officers approached the students, who smelled strongly of alcohol, and attempted to question them, but the woman who had fallen kept telling her friend, “Don’t tell them anything,” so they had to be separated and questioned individually.

56

Page 57: University of Arizona - Campus Blotter

The woman was very argumentative and defensive and would not submit to either a Breathalyzer or other intoxication tests, insisting that she was not drunk despite her slurred speech, red, watery eyes and difficulty walking. She refused to give any personal information besides her name and date of birth, and said she did not want to answer any questions. The woman kept repeatedly asking to speak with her father, even though the officer informed her that she was an adult and did not need her father for the situation she was in and that she could speak with him after the investigation.

The officer then cited her for minor in possession, but the woman did not want to sign the citation, and only did so when told that she could be booked into jail if she didn’t.

The second student was much more cooperative, and told the second officer that she and her friend had been at a party off campus drinking Vitali Vodka straight out of the bottle. She admitted to being drunk and was cited for minor in possession.

February 26 A UA student was transported to the University of Arizona Medical Center for extreme intoxication on Sunday at 1:50 a.m. A University of Arizona Police Department officer arrived at Gila Residence Hall to check on the welfare of a student. The onduty resident assistant met the officer and took him to a room on the third floor. In the room, the officer found a student lying on the bed and vomiting into a trash can while her roommate held her hair. The student told the officer she had taken two JellO shots at an oncampus party, but she would not say exactly where the party had been.

The student was disoriented and slow to answer the officer’s questions. She also had red, watery eyes, slurred speech and alcohol on her breath. Tucson Fire Department arrived at the room and determined that she needed to be transported to UAMC.

The student was then diverted to the Dean of Students Office for underage drinking.

February 27 A UA student was cited for possession of drug paraphernalia on Monday around 1 a.m. A University of Arizona Police Department officer who was out of uniform noticed two students passing a marijuana joint back and forth near the grassy area next to the UA Campus Health Center. After calling for backup, the officer approached the students. The students were informed of their rights, identified and then interviewed separately about the marijuana. The first student admitted that there had been marijuana in his joint, but said that there was none left. When asked where he had gotten the marijuana, he said, “I got it from a friend. Just a friend.”

57

Page 58: University of Arizona - Campus Blotter

He also told the officer that he had a pipe in his room and said, “I used it to smoke weed like two weeks ago.”

Because of this information, an officer asked the student to take him to his room and relinquish the smoking pipe, which had visible residue of burnt marijuana.

The second student told the officer that it was not his weed but his friend’s, and he was not in possession of any marijuana himself.

Both students admitted to receiving diversion before. The student and his friend were referred to the Dean of Students Office.

A UA student was cited for possession of drug paraphernalia and marijuana at about 2:30 p.m.

After smelling marijuana coming out of a room in Pueblo de la Cienega Residence Hall, a resident assistant contacted UAPD. Two officers then arrived and knocked on the door.

The student living in that room opened the door, looking as if he had just woken up. The student was not cooperative and claimed that he was sick. He said there wasn’t any marijuana in his room and that he could not smell it. He said that the officers could search his room, but only after he made sure that his roommate’s belongings were on the other side.

After saying this, the student placed a backpack on his roommate’s bed, saying that the bag was his roommate’s. The student claimed he did not know what was in the backpack, but he was very adamant that it was not his. He then stepped into the hall to call his roommate and his lawyer.

However, once the student called his roommate, one of the officers got on the phone with him. The roommate said that the backpack was not his but the first student’s. The first student then confessed to owning the backpack and the marijuana inside of it.

The officers searched the bag, which contained three plastic baggies full of marijuana. The total amount of marijuana inside the bags was 35.2 grams. After the substance tested positive for marijuana, it was placed into UAPD property and evidence.

February 28 A UA student was cited for consuming liquor in public and underage drinking on Monday at around 2:31 a.m.

A University of Arizona Police Department officer responded to a loud noise near Colonia de la Paz Residence Hall. When he approached the area, he saw the student sitting on the curb next to Colonia de la Paz, drinking from a green glass bottle. The student threw the bottle about 20 feet when he saw the officer approaching.

The officer spoke with him about littering and the student apologized. However, the officer noticed that the student’s speech was extremely slurred, his eyes were bloodshot and he smelled strongly of alcohol.

After the student stated that he was 18 years old, the officer called for backup to perform a breath test. At this point, the student became increasingly argumentative.

58

Page 59: University of Arizona - Campus Blotter

The student then got in a track and field stance and appeared as though he was trying to flee the scene, but the officers were able to get him to sit down and comply. He then tried to flee the scene two more times. Due to his lack of cooperation the officer placed him under arrest for underage drinking and criminal littering.

The student started to run away but the officer was able to grab him by his shirt. He still tried to flee but was unable to break the officers grasp and ultimately was put into a headlock by the officer.

After he was finally arrested, the student said “Good for you, you got a guy with a warrant!”

The student was placed in the back of a UAPD patrol car and the officer returned to the scene for evidence. The green bottle was found as well as three marijuana joints.

The student was read his Miranda Rights, which he acknowledged. He said that he was drinking liquor that someone purchased for him and that he knew you had to be 21 to legally drink. However, he stated that the marijuana joints were not his.

The student was arrested at the scene and booked into Pima County Jail.

March 3 Two UA students were cited for possession of marijuana and drug paraphernalia at 11:36 p.m. at the ArizonaSonora Residence Hall on Feb. 22.

A resident assistant contacted the University of Arizona Police Department when he received an anonymous tip that a resident of ArizonaSonora and his friend were smoking marijuana in his room.

The UAPD officer arrived on the scene and could clearly smell marijuana from the room. A resident answered the door when the officer knocked. The student had red, bleary eyes, appeared disoriented and had trouble talking coherently.

The resident claimed that there was nothing illegal in his room, but said he didn’t want the officer to search through his belongings. When the officer asked him if he didn’t want to be searched because he had illegal objects in his room, the resident suspiciously glanced back at something in his room.

The officer told the resident that he knew there was marijuana in the room because he could smell it. At that point, the resident’s friend told him, “Just give them the stuff, man.”

The resident then went to the spot he had looked at when the officer asked him if he had anything illegal and retrieved a glass jar containing a green, leafy substance. The material tested positive for marijuana and weighed in at about 8.6 grams.

The resident also dug out a glass bong that had been hidden behind a chair and gave it to the officer. The officer noticed that the friend also had bloodshot eyes when they were speaking.

However, the resident and his friend refused to answer any questions when asked if they were smoking.

The two were cited and diverted to the Dean of Students Office. The marijuana and bong were placed into evidence.

On Feb. 21, two U.S. Postal Inspection Service inspectors asked for assistance in regards to a package that was sent to a UA student.

The USPIS inspectors contacted UAPD because they had intercepted a package addressed to a resident of Coronado Residence Hall containing about 4.5 pounds of marijuana.

A UAPD officer and the inspectors were taken to the room occupied by the resident, but no one answered after knocking on the door. They began checking study rooms in search for the resident, and overheard a student talking to the resident on the phone.

Although the student initially denied talking to the resident, he admitted to doing so when told that his resident assistant had heard him. The student then confessed to telling the resident that “cops were at his door.” He claimed that he had no knowledge of the package containing marijuana.

At the time of this report, the officer and inspectors were unable to make contact with the suspect resident.

March 4 A student was arrested on a charge of a warrant for possession of marijuana on Feb. 22 at 2:25 a.m. Two UAPD officers responded to Villa del Puente Residence Hall in regards to a report of the smell of marijuana.

A resident assistant escorted the two officers to room 271 where the faint smell of marijuana was detected. A male student answered the door, and two others were inside the room with him.

The smell grew stronger as the officers entered the room, so they asked to do a search. The students allowed a search, and no marijuana was found.

The officers did a records check on the three students and found that one had a confirmed misdemeanor warrant for possession of marijuana. The student was handcuffed, searched, placed in the back of a patrol car and transported to Pima County Jail.

March 5 A UA student was diverted to the Dean of Students Office for underage drinking on Feb. 21.

The University of Arizona Police Department responded after an officer saw a woman and man helping another woman walk down Highland Avenue near Villa del Puente Residence Hall around midnight.

The officer approached the group and asked them if everything was OK. The two people helping the student said that they did not know who the woman was, but they saw her sitting outside of Alpha Phi and did not think it was a good idea to leave her all alone.

The other two left after the officer began to speak to the student. The officer asked the student for identification, noticing that her eyes were extremely bloodshot and watery, and that she was having a hard time speaking. She was also having trouble standing and her breath smelled strongly of intoxicants.

60

Page 61: University of Arizona - Campus Blotter

The student said she had been drinking heavily and that she wanted to get back home to Villa del Puente. She told the officer that her roommate would be there to take care of her, but when they arrived her roommate was not there.

The officer noticed that the student had several cuts and bruises on her shoulders and legs from falling on the walk home and decided to contact Tucson Fire Department. When TFDpersonnel arrived, they concluded that she needed to be transported to the University of Arizona Medical Center for extreme intoxication.

When the student was coherent, she said she had been drinking large amounts of hard liquor but could not recall what kind of liquor, or where she was consuming it.

The student was treated and diverted to the Dean of Students Office.

A UA student was transported to UAMC around 3:30 a.m. on Feb. 21 for extreme intoxication.

A UAPD officer responded to Coronado Residence Hall after the resident assistant on duty saw a woman vomiting in her bathroom. The officer spoke to the student’s roommate, who said that she had been ill for over an hour and had no idea where her roommate was earlier that night, but knows she was out with her sorority sisters drinking.

The student’s roommate said that someone had brought her home after they found her passed out in the residence hall elevator. She was worried, so she had contacted UAPD as well as the student’s parents.

The UAPD officer called TFD to evaluate the student because she was incoherent. TFDdetermined that the student was heavily intoxicated and needed further medical attention, and she was taken to UAMC.

The student was treated and referred to the Dean of Students Office.

March 7 A UA student was referred to the Dean of Students after being cited for minor in possession of alcohol on Feb. 23.

A UAPD officer on duty was notified by a resident assistant of Gila Residence Hall about a student needing medical services for extreme intoxication. The officer and Tucson Fire Department went to the dorm room to check on the resident.

Officials found the male resident lying on his bed with both eyes open. The officer noticed the resident had bloodshot eyes and the smell of alcohol on his breath. The resident told the officer he had consumed only two beers at an off campus party, but did not disclose the location of the party to the officer.

TFD evaluated the male and found he was in a stable condition to stay with his roommate before leaving the residence hall.

A UA student was diverted to the Dean of Students Office for underage drinking on March 1 at 1:30 a.m..

UAPD officers patrolling around Second Street saw a student being held up next to a garbage can by his friend.

The student appeared to have red, watery eyes and was surrounded by vomit. The officers were informed that he was taking shots of Fireball Cinnamon Whisky at a party.

Officers tried to ask the student questions but he was unable to answer because he vomited as soon as he began to speak.

The student was cleared by paramedics and his friend took him home. A Code of Conduct form was completed and sent to the Dean of Students Office.

March 12 A UA student was taken to University of Arizona Medical Center for extreme intoxication on Feb. 28.

A University of Arizona Police Department officer responded to a call and arrived at ArizonaSonora Residence Hall at 1 a.m. to find the student already being cared for by University Emergency Medical Services. The student had soiled herself and was covered in her own feces, but when UEMS attempted to evaluate her she began resisting treatment by swinging her arms towards them. The officer noticed that her eyes were bloodshot and watery.

The student was taken to UAMC. When the officer arrived three hours later to follow up with the student, he found her asleep. He was told by a nurse that the student’s blood had tested positive for alcohol.

When the officer returned again two hours later, he found the student still asleep. He was told by the nurse that the student had been sedated upon her arrival, because she was trying to kick the medical staff.

A follow up was requested to arrest the student for a minor in possession of alcohol in body.

March 14 A student was diverted to the Dean of Students Office for possession of marijuana in Maricopa Residence Hall on March 10.

A UAPD officer responded to reports of a marijuana odor in Maricopa. Upon approaching the room suspected to be the source of the smell, the officer noticed a strong odor of aerosol air freshener.

The officer knocked at the door and identified himself. The resident took approximately five minutes to open door. She allowed the officer to enter her room, where he observed pipes containing what appeared to be marijuana residue.

The student said she had been smoking marijuana and proclaimed that is was a “way of life” for her. She also presented the officer with a box of paraphernalia, including a scale, a baggy and a “shaker.” The student also handed over what appeared to be a jar containing marijuana.

62

Page 63: University of Arizona - Campus Blotter

The officer informed the student that smoking marijuana on campus is illegal. She was diverted to the Dean of Students Office and tested positive for marijuana use.

March 24 Three UA students were cited for possession of marijuana at 11 p.m. in the Sixth Street Parking Garage on March 6. One of the students was also cited for possession of drug paraphernalia.

After receiving a tip, two University of Arizona Police Department officers arrived at the parking garage to investigate possible marijuana use. They discovered three students hiding behind a dumpster with a strong smell of marijuana around them.

When asked what they were doing, the students refused to respond. An officer noticed a plastic Skippy peanut butter jar on the ground, and asked what was in it. Once again, the students didn’t respond.

At this point, another officer arrived on the scene. He reported that as he walked toward the parking garage, he had seen a plastic baggie falling through the air. The officer had opened the bag, discovered it contained marijuana and a pipe, and joined the other officers in the garage.

Two of the three students admitted to smoking marijuana, but one claimed that the pipe in question was not the one they’d been smoking from, and his was darker in color.

A second student claimed that he did not see who tossed the pipe off the garage but said it was not him. He did admit that all three of them had been smoking from that particular pipe.

An officer noticed a bulge in the pocket of the third student, who refused a search and claimed to not have been smoking marijuana. The officer then asked the third student to stick out his tongue, which he did, and noticed that it was covered in a green frothy film, a condition known as “cottonmouth,” which sometimes results after marijuana use.

The officers then investigated the suspicious peanut butter jar and found it contained 1.6 grams of marijuana, a grinder and a lighter.

The three students were then cited and released for possession of marijuana. The student who had admitted to smoking from the pipe but did not know who threw it over the edge of the garage was cited and released for possession of drug paraphernalia.

March 25 A UA student received a code of conduct referral for possession of marijuana on March 14 at 3:10 a.m.

A UAPD officer was sent to investigate a fire alarm that went off in a student’s room.

Upon arrival, the student living in the room showed the officer to his room, and then the smoke detector that was sounding. The officer managed to disable the smoke detector and noticed a strong smell of burnt marijuana while doing so.

The officer asked the student why the alarm had gone off, and the student said he didn’t know, claiming that he was in the shower when he heard the alarm. However, the officer noticed that

63

Page 64: University of Arizona - Campus Blotter

he did not look like he had just gotten out of the shower and observed that the student was drinking an excessive amount of water and had raised taste buds and red glassy eyes.

The student did not allow the officer to search his room, but there appeared to be a small green stem on the desk that the student was sitting on. The student insisted that the desk was his roommate’s, who had left for spring break.

The student then became very uncooperative, refusing to speak to the officer. He said that he was done being interrogated.

The Dean of Students Office was notified and the student received a code of conduct referral because he would not allow his room to be searched.

The smoke detector was replaced and the system reset.

March 27 A UA student was cited for being a minor in possession of alcohol on Monday at 2:50 p.m.

Around 2:35 p.m., a University of Arizona Police Department officer was patrolling around the Life

Sciences South building when he noticed a male student walking through the street who was almost hit by a BMW. A woman yelled at the student, telling him to hurry up and get out of the way.

The officer approached the male student and asked for identification. The student was swaying from side to side, had red watery eyes and had the smell of alcohol on his breath.

With slow, slurred speech, the student asked the officer why he was being stopped. The office said he could smell the alcohol on the student’s breath and asked him if he had been drinking.

The student said he had been drinking and that he was only 19 years old. He told the officer he had drunk four shots of vodka and juice at home, around 2:15 p.m., before heading to class.

The officer asked the student if he had taken any pills with the alcohol and requested a horizontal gaze nystagmus test. The student showed six of the six cues, indicating that his blood alcohol content was over .08.

The officer suggested that the student not go to class intoxicated, but said it was his choice. The student said he would walk home.

The officer cited the student for underage drinking and for not using a crosswalk to cross the street.

April 2 Two UA students were cited for possession of marijuana on March 28.

A University of Arizona Police Department officer was conducting rounds in Coronado Residence Hall when he smelled the odor of marijuana coming from a dorm room.

64

Page 65: University of Arizona - Campus Blotter

The officer knocked on the door and identified himself to the two students inside. The students let the officer into the room, and he asked the two residents if they had any marijuana.

They said yes and handed over a Ziploc sandwich bag containing .04 grams of marijuana, confirming it belonged to both of them.

When the officer asked if they had any paraphernalia in the room, the two said no and that they usually use rolling papers, but had recently run out.

The students were informed of their rights, cited and released.

April 3 A UA student was referred to the Dean of Students Office for drinking in public on Sunday.

A University of Arizona Police Department officer noticed a man grab an 8footlong branch on a tree and break it off near University Boulevard around 2:50 a.m. The officer then observed the man walk to a newspaper stand, place a UA logo shot glass on top of it, pour tequila into the glass and then drink it.

The officer identified the man as a UA student, who said he had lost his equilibrium due to drinking during the night and grabbed hold of the branch to stop himself from falling. The student, who is from Brazil, said he did not know he could not consume alcohol in public because it is allowed in Brazil.

The officer told the student he was being diverted to the Dean of Students Office and explained the diversion program to him.

April 8 A woman unaffiliated with the UA was cited and released for minor in possession of alcohol and for failing to stop at a stop sign on Thursday.

Two UAPD officers noticed a car run a stop sign without stopping or slowing down. They pulled the car over and identified the driver, who said she did not have a license.

One of the officers then noticed a bottle of alcohol in the backseat. He asked the woman whose alcohol it was and she said it belonged to her sister. The other officer then noticed more alcohol on the front passenger floorboard.

The officers had the woman step out of her car and removed all of the alcohol. The woman then said she had been with her sister and a friend at Eden strip club. Her sister and friend, who had been drinking, wanted to go to Fourth Avenue afterward, so she drove them there. She said she was on her way home now and had not consumed any alcohol.

The woman’s car was then impounded and she was cited and released.

April 10 A UA student was diverted to the Dean of Students Office for being a minor in possession of alcohol on April 6.

65

Page 66: University of Arizona - Campus Blotter

displayed several signs of extreme intoxication, including red watery eyes and slurred speech. The student had also soiled himself.

The student had many mood swings while speaking to the UAPD officers. He told them where he lived but flipped off the officers and shook his head at other questions, including when he was asked where he had been drinking and how much he had drunk.

The officers and TFD escorted the student back to his room, but he was very confrontational. TFD medically cleared the student and left, and the UAPD officers advised him that he would be contacted by the Dean of Students Office.

While they were speaking, the student got up and cursed at the officers, yelling, “Get … out of my room!” He continued cursing at the officers until they left.

As they were walking away, the student came into the hallway from his room and made derogatory remarks at the officers while flipping them off.

The officers waited until the student went back inside his room and closed the door.

April 14 A UA student was referred to the Dean of Students Office on Tuesday for possession of marijuana.

UAPD officers were dispatched to NavajoPinal Residence Hall at 11:41 p.m. on April 7, after a report of the smell of marijuana coming from the third floor of the hall.

A resident assistant escorted the two officers to the third floor and lead them to the room where the smell was coming from. The officers knocked on the door, and when the student opened it the officers explained why they were there and student said, “Sure, come on in.”

When the officers entered the room the smell became stronger, so they asked the student if she had been smoking marijuana.

The student said she had been smoking about 20 minutes before they arrived. She said there was no marijuana left in the room because she had smoked it all.

When asked if there was any paraphernalia in the room the student replied saying no, that she had emptied out the cigars and used the paper to smoke the marijuana.

A code of conduct referral was then completed and sent to the Dean of Students Office.

April 21 A UA student was diverted through the Dean of Students Office for smoking marijuana on the west side of Arizona Stadium on April 12.

A University of Arizona Police Department officer went to the stadium at around 1:30 a.m. after receiving a report that people were smoking marijuana on picnic benches there.

A UA student was diverted for minor in possession of alcohol on April 12.

A UAPD officer went to the Biological Sciences West building at 5:13 p.m. after receiving a report that someone in the area appeared highly intoxicated.

The officer found the reported person on the north side of ArizonaSonora Residence Hall. He was staggering heavily and was unable to walk in a straight line. The officer instructed the student to sit down on the sidewalk and assisted him.

The student rolled backward into a bush as he tried to stand up, and the officer helped him to an upright position.

The student’s eyes appeared red and watery, his lips were dry and his speech was very slurred. When asked if he had been drinking, the student said he had only had a few beers.

Medical personnel came to evaluate the intoxicated student and said he was fine to go back to his room in Coronado Residence Hall if a friend could come to take him and watch over him for the night.

A friend came and escorted him to his room, and a Dean of Students Office referral was completed for the intoxicated student.

April 23 A UA student was arrested for minor in possession of alcohol on Sunday at around 4 a.m. on Seventh Street and Cherry Avenue.

A University of Arizona Police Department officer was patrolling the area when he saw a student and a man screaming at each other. The officer pulled over and attempted to separate the two. The man was yelling, “Get away from me! Get this crazy bitch away from me! She won’t go away.” Two other officers arrived on the scene to assist.

The student and the man had supposedly been arguing about the student’s friends, and the student said she was “trying to protect them.” The student’s eyes were watery and bloodshot, and she was slurring her words. The student asked why the officers were there and what she had done. An officer asked her what she thought she was in trouble for, and she replied, “Drinking, big deal. Everybody in the party is [drinking], and they are drunk.”

The officer told her she was going to be arrested for underage drinking and they were going to get her home safely.

However, while completing the paperwork for her citation, the student refused to sign the ticket multiple times. The officers told her if she did not sign it, she would be booked into the Pima County Adult Detention Center. When she continued to refuse to sign it, she was arrested and booked into the detention center.

A UAPD officer noticed about 15 people congregating around an entrance to a fraternity house on Cherry Avenue at approximately 3 a.m. on Friday. The house seemed noisy, suggesting there were a lot of people inside.

The officer checked the Greek Life calendar of events, and saw there was not a registered party at that address or time. The officer tried to get in contact with someone at the house, but when the people saw the officer, they all ran quickly into the house to avoid him. He then began to shine his light inside the house and saw about 100 people in a room.

When they saw the light, all the people consuming alcohol either dropped or tried to hide it from the officer. The crowd then began to retreat to a different part of the house that was out of sight.

The officer found a resident of the house and asked for the president of the fraternity to come outside and speak with him. The president came to speak with the officer and told him there were about 86 people in the house. The officer told the president of the house that there appeared to be underage drinking going on and that it appeared to be a violation of GAMMA rules.

The president told the officer he would tell everyone to leave. Shortly after, about 200 people left the house. The officer contacted Greek Life to report the incident.

April 24 Two UA students were diverted to the Dean of Students Office for minor in possession of alcohol on Saturday.

A UAPD officer on patrol observed two young men exiting Phi Gamma Delta fraternity house, one of whom was holding a clear glass bottle. Once he realized he was being watched by police, the young man holding the bottle tried to hide it behind his back, tucking it into the back of his pants.

The other young man lost his balance and fell over the retaining wall along the sidewalk. Officers approached the young men. The one holding the bottle relinquished it to officers, identifying it as peach vodka.

Officers said that both young men were polite and cooperative, if a little unstable on their feet.

The two, who were not members of the fraternity, were released and diverted to the Dean of Students Office, and the bottle was disposed of by police.

April 28 A UA student and a non affiliate were arrested for minor in bodily possession of alcohol on April 19. University of Arizona Police Department officers reported to Coronado Residence Hall at 2:15 a.m. in reference to a disturbance. The student who reported the incident informed the officer that when she returned back to her room for the night she found her suitemate and an unknown man in her bed. When the student asked the two to leave, the man became verbally abusive and “got in her face.”

The officers went up to the room where they found two women speaking, a man coming out of the bathroom and a man and woman in the adjoining bathroom.

The two men seemed to be intoxicated, and had been drinking at Gentle Ben’s Brewing Co. that night. The officers found out that the two men were over the age of 21.

One of the girls said she had invited the men back to the residence hall. She had red, watery eyes, smelled strongly of alcohol and had slurred speech. Another girl found in the room also had red, watery eyes, slurred speech and smelled strongly of alcohol. Both girls were asked if they had been drinking and both said they had.

Officers found a bottle of vodka in the room. The officers confiscated the alcohol and arrested both girls.

Two UA students were diverted for possession of paraphernalia and marijuana at 10:20 p.m. on April 19.

A UAPD officer was dispatched to Likins Residence Hall due to the smell of marijuana coming from the third floor. The officer approached the room where the smell was coming from and a man exited the room. The man was told to stop and the officer asked him if that was his room. The man replied that he did not live there.

Another man exited the room and the officer asked him if he was a resident of that room, and the man stated that he was. The man then let the officer in his room.

The officer could smell fresh marijuana and the two men admitted that there was marijuana in the room. The officer asked for the marijuana so one of the men went into the bathroom and took out a bag of marijuana and a pink pipe from below the sink.

When asked about the items one of the men said he had bought the marijuana for $50 that day.

Both were diverted for possession of marijuana and drug paraphernalia, and 9.6 grams of marijuana were placed into evidence.

A UA student was referred to the Dean of Students Office and medically assessed for a high level of intoxication on April 20 in Coronado Residence Hall.

A University of Arizona Police Department officer responded to the lobby of Coronado at 12:45 a.m. in reference to an intoxicated woman. The officer spoke with a resident assistant who said an unknown man assisted the woman into the lobby and left her leaning against the front desk.

The woman could not keep herself upright and slumped to the floor, prompting the RA to contact UAPD and Tucson Fire Department medical personnel.

The woman, later identified as a student, was medically assessed and transported to the University of Arizona Medical Center. The student had consumed about 10 to 12 shots of alcohol that night, at an offcampus location.

The student was taken to UAPD and a Dean of Student Office referral form was completed.

April 30 A UA student was diverted to the Dean of Students Office for minor in possession of alcohol on Saturday at 12:25 a.m.

Two University of Arizona Police Department officers were driving north on Cherry Avenue near the University of Arizona Medical Center when they noticed a man, later identified as a student, who was stumbling and struggling to maintain his balance while walking on the side of the street. The officers approached the student, who had made it to Warren Avenue, and they noticed his breath smelled strongly of alcohol, he had red, watery eyes and he continued having difficulty maintaining his balance. The student told the officer he was 20 years old.

The student said he had consumed about five to six Keystone Light beers at a friend’s house and that he received the beer there. The student insisted that he could walk home since it was only a couple of blocks away. The student, however, pointed in the wrong direction when he was trying to point to his house based on the address he provided to the officers. The student also thought he was standing on Vine Avenue and then on Highland Avenue, despite the officers repeatedly telling him that he was standing on Warren Avenue.

The student was diverted through the Dean of Students Office, and the officers provided him a ride home.

A UA student was arrested for having a fake outofstate license and minor in possession of alcohol on Thursday at 1:54 a.m. near the Steward Observatory Mirror Laboratory.

Two University of Arizona Police Department officers noticed a man standing by himself in a parking lot next to an empty car. The man was staring toward Sixth Street and did not change his expression when the officers pulled up near him. An officer approached him, and after being asked twice if he was OK, the man finally acknowledged the officer, who was now 2 feet away from him, and said he was OK. The officer could smell alcohol coming from the man’s breath. The man then swayed and almost fell into the officer.

The officers asked the man for identification, and he took out his wallet and showed them an Arizona driver’s license. When the wallet was open, an officer noticed an Oregon driver’s license as well. The man admitted that he was not 21 years old, but would not say where or how much he had drunk. A records check showed the man was a UA student.

The student admitted that Oregon driver’s license, which listed his age as 21, was fake. The student continually put his hands in his pockets, despite the officers telling him to keep his hands out where they could see them. The student then began cursing and yelling at the officers. He refused to say where he lived and refused to call a cab to take him home.

The student then began spitting and became argumentative with officers. He shouted that he knew his rights and that the officers were harassing him. The officers then arrested the student for minor in possession and possessing a fake outofstate license and took him to Pima County Jail. During the drive, the student continued cursing at the officers and shouting that he would sue them if they didn’t pull over. The student continued this behavior when they arrived at the jail, and Pima County Corrections officers took him into booking early.

The fake Oregon driver’s license was placed into evidence and a Code of Conduct violation was completed to be forwarded to the Dean of Students Office.

May 1 A UA student was diverted to the Dean of Students Office for being a minor in possession of alcohol on Saturday at 2 p.m.

Two University of Arizona Police Department officers were sent to check on a man on the corner of Cherry Avenue and University Boulevard who was stumbling around and seemed distraught. As the officers approached, they noticed the man trip and fell onto a bench.

When they reached the man, the officers asked him what was wrong. The man said that he’d gotten in a fight with his girlfriend at a date dash and looked as if he was about to cry. As the officers talked to the man, they noticed that his eyes appeared watery and bloodshot, and his speech was slurred.

The officers then asked the man if he’d been drinking. He replied, “Yes, but just only a little,” and claimed that he’d only had two shots of vodka at Delta Tau Delta fraternity house.

The student was then informed that he would be referred to the Dean of Students Office and was taken back to his room at ArizonaSonora Residence Hall.

A UA student was diverted to the Dean of Students Office for being a minor in possession at 2:40 p.m. on Saturday.

A UAPD officer noticed a man wearing shorts, a Hawaiian shirt and a towel stumbling as he crossed the street to First Street and Highland Avenue. Finding it suspicious, the officer followed the man until he was sighted again, urinating on the side of the Chi Omega sorority house. The officer could not directly see this because there was a shrub blocking the view, but the officer could tell that his hands were near his crotch. Several seconds later, the man tilted his head back and let out a big sigh, and then began moving his right arm in a forward to back motion.

The officer then requested another officer to perform a welfare check on the man after he left the sorority house. Before tracking down the suspect, the officer investigated the scene where the man was believed to have urinated and observed “liquid spray” on the wall of the sorority house that slightly smelled of urine.

The man was finally stopped near Colonia de la Paz Residence Hall by another officer, who could smell alcohol on the man’s breath. The officer then read the man his Miranda Rights, and asked him if he understood. He replied, “Yeah.”

To confirm the man understood, the officer asked, “Does that mean yes?” The man responded with, “Yes.”

The man was asked where he was coming from, but could not remember. The officer had to repeat the question multiple times before the man remembered that he had come from the Kappa Sigma fraternity house. The man claimed he had only drank “a little beer.” When asked to be more specific, the man said he had drank three to four Coors beers around 1:30 p.m. and had gotten the alcohol from some friends that were over 21.

The man was then diverted to the Dean of Students Office for being a minor in possession of alcohol.

May 5 A UA student was diverted to the Dean of Students Office for a minor in possession of alcohol on April 25 around 2 a.m.

A University of Arizona Police Department officer stopped when he saw a student walking at the intersection of Cherry Avenue and First Street. The student was walking in circles, which caused a delay in traffic.

The officer observed the student for a minute and saw him attempt to get into a vehicle that wasn’t his as if trying to hail a cab. The car drove off immediately. The student then stood in the middle of the crosswalk, stopping traffic for 15 seconds.

The officer approached the student and noticed that he was swaying, and could smell a very strong odor of alcohol coming from his breath. The officer asked him if he felt he needed medical attention and he said he was fine. The student told the officer that he has been drinking at Delta Tau Delta and was now looking for his friend. The student could not remember where his friend lived or where he was supposed to meet her.

The officer asked how old the man was and he said he was 20. The officer then asked to see some identification. The student pulled his Arizona drivers license out of his left pocket, looked at it, then put it in his right pocket and told the officer he didn’t have any identification on him. The officer then told the student that he saw it in his hand, and the student gave the officer the license.

The student apologized and said he had no idea what he was doing and just wanted to go home. The officer reminded him that the legal drinking age was 21, and told him he needed to find a sober driver to take him home because he could not disrupt traffic. The student then called a friend to come pick him up.

The student was diverted for a minor in possession of alcohol.

May 6 Four UA students were diverted to the Dean of Students Office for possession of marijuana and drug paraphernalia on April 28.

A University of Arizona Police Department officer responded to a call from Colonia de la Paz Residence Hall. A resident assistant led the officer to a room from which the smell of burning marijuana was coming. A man could be seen through a window lighting what appeared to be a pipe.

When the door was opened, the officer saw there were three other men also in the room. After identifying all four students, the officer noticed a grinder and hose with burnt residue in plain view.

The officer asked one of the students where the rest of the materials were and the students brought out a vaporizer from the closet and a small baggie with marijuana and rolling papers from the desk. The students gave all of the materials to the officer.

The officer noticed all four students had bloodshot eyes. They explained where they got the vaporizer and marijuana from, and all four admitted that they had smoked the marijuana.

The officer informed the students they would be diverted through the Dean of Students Office.
