Calder Stewart Roofing; a company that has

withstood the tests of mother nature and father time.

Page 3: Unrivalled New Zealand Roofing

When you’re from the south, you have to be tough. At Calder Stewart Roofing, we have always focused on

ensuring that our products meet the challenges of the

New Zealand climate.

Given the geographic location of Calder Stewart Roofing’s head

office (45 degrees south) we have a unique advantage when it

comes to testing our products.

Our outside “laboratories”, from the sub-alpine mountains of

central Otago to Southland and the fiords, provide the perfect test

for all our products.

Currently we’re testing on our Solar-Rib® & laminates at Dumpling

Hut on the Milford Track. With wind, snow and seven metres of

rain a year we reckon this beats the heck out of any wind tunnel.

So, whether you’re in downtown Auckland or Dunedin, and

you want peace of mind to know your roof can handle anything

mother nature throws at it, think of us.

Here’s where we were. Here’s where we’re going. In 1955, Bruce Stewart & Lance Calder went into business building hay barns

and dog kennels in rural Otago & Southland. Today, the company they began

is a major construction business, consistently building some of the country’s

largest commercial, industrial

and agricultural buildings.

Large manufacturing

divisions within the company

produce structural steel,

reinforcing, pre-cast concrete

and roofing products for internal

projects, the public and other

construction businesses.

The roofing division was born, like

many things at Calder Stewart

Industries, out of necessity. By 1970 the team were so busy building hay barns

and woolsheds that making their own cut-to-length iron became a necessity.

This wasn’t an easy feat. At the time, Wards Engineering in Christchurch was

one of the few companies in New Zealand capable of making the machinery

to produce the iron. Bruce Stewart, and sons Peter and Alan, had a long trip

home to Milton in the TK Bedford after collecting their first corrugate machine.

By 1974 the roofing division had grown so much a second factory was set

up in Invercargill along with a trapezoidal roofing profile that could be used

on any pitched roof. With new machines and the introduction of Colorsteel,

the roofing division went from strength to strength, leading to a Christchurch

branch being established in the mid-1980s. Around this time the company

moved into the installation

of roofing. And hired a rep

to cover the central Otago

region; Appie Borren. Appie

had one of the few car phones

in the district, the car horn

and lights were activated until

it was answered. Fortunately,

things have progressed…

The roofing division has seen

many changes over the years,

but what hasn’t changed are the company’s strong ties to the rural communities

and clients of Southland and Otago, or pride in being a family business. Today

Calder Stewart Roofing has manufacturing and installation operations in the North

& South Island, selling their unique range of roofing, architectural cladding and solar

roofing products to farmers, builders and homeowners.

Solar-Rib is New Zealand’s only roofing profile that is specifically designed

to generate electric power through the use of Photo-Voltaic Laminate

(PV Laminate) solar panel technology. An attractive profile offering elegant

looks, Solar-Rib can be installed without the PV Laminate, with the laminate

being added onto the profile at a later time if desired.

Solar-Rib represents a progressive product, paying for itself in the long run

and is an ideal way to combat increasing energy prices by taking advantage

of nature’s most renewable source of energy - the sun.

Our Solar-Rib laminate

The PV Laminate we use is sourced from Marcegaglia, a worldwide industry

leader in the steel and energy sector. It harnesses our strong UV and turns that

into electricity. The PV Laminate, made in Italy, is the next generation in solar

technology, moving away from bulky, fragile glass panels that bolt into the roof.

PV Laminates blend seamlessly into the roof design. You can have your home,

shed, farm or commercial building generating all its own power, or feeding back

into the grid. The PV Laminates are extremely durable, recyclable and work at

very high efficiency rates even on low pitch or shaded roof areas.

The power generator.

grandest buildings in Europe, to match our most contemporary homes. You don’t

want to settle for second best or anything that will date or deteriorate. Calder

Stewart thinks the same way. So Euro-Tray is designed to withstand the harshest

of New Zealand’s climates without compromising on premium aesthetics.

If style’s important; if you’re after a roof with elegance and distinction – choose

Calder Stewart Euro-Tray. Calder Stewart’s top-of-the-line Euro-Tray range is a

proven roof that delivers exceptional durability and performance with sharp, clean

lines and timeless style. This roofing profile is inspired by some of the oldest and

Introducing Euro-Tray, our designer series.

Euro-Tray®

Euro-Tray Double Standing Seam

Following a traditional European design and exhibiting a modern day seamless

appearance, Double Standing Seam is typically specified and formed using

higher end materials like copper, zinc and aluminum.

Euro-Tray Roll Seam

Creating a slightly softer finish and a larger shadow effect than Euro-Tray Roll

Cap, Euro-Tray Roll Seam can be machine curved to a tight radius allowing for

more expressive detailing.

Euro-Tray Roll Cap

A New Zealand inspired design and the most popular profile of the Euro-

Tray family, Euro-Tray Roll Cap offers clean lines and a uniquely robust and

distinctive look. Visualise the traditional timber board and batten look and then

imagine this in metal and you have Roll Cap.

Euro-Tray Angle Seam

This member of the Euro-Tray family is not only a striking roofing profile, but

also an exceptional wall cladding. In cladding situations, Angle Seam can be

run both vertically or horizontally. Angle Seam can also be concave curved.

Page 7: Unrivalled New Zealand Roofing

Calder Stewart Roofing’s new and improved roof cladding profile, Heritage Tray

represents the evolution of its already popular Euro-Tray product line, with a

new emphasis on economy and flexibility. Conceived around the market leading

stylishness of its predecessor, Heritage Tray has the advantage of requiring no

additional plywood substrate, thus reducing costs. Additionally, Heritage Tray

offers the flexibility of being roll formed on-site, an ideal solution where extra-long

trays are required, storage is limited or potential transport damage needs to be

eliminated. Heritage Tray comes with a cost saving custom flashing solution for

eaves and retains its warranty if you later decide to install a solar PV Laminate.

Affordable quality.

Heritage Tray™

Calder Stewart Roofing’s unique Euro-Panel wall cladding is an extension of

their already popular Euro-Tray roofing. Euro-Panel is a sleek, sectional panel

system that clips together to form a stylish finish like no other. Tested, like all

Calder Stewart Roofing products, in the deep south Euro-Panel can now be seen

up and down the country. On everything from architecturally-designed homes to

commercial buildings. Whether it is modern or rustic, zinc or copper, Euro-Panel will

compliment any design with a timeless, yet stand-out look.

Make a statement.

Back in 1955 Calder Stewart started out building dog kennels and hay barns for

the rural communities of Southland & Otago. An honest, reliable service and great

products meant the demand grew to a point where it made sense to purchase

a corrugate roofing machine. 1970 saw the beginnings of the Calder Stewart

Industries roofing division, providing cut-to-length corrugated iron for farm

buildings and the general public. Corrugated iron to this day is the cornerstone

of the roofing division and one of New Zealand’s most trusted roofing profiles.

Whether it’s a barn, a sleep out or your dream home, Calder Stewart’s corrugated

iron profile has stood the test of time and will look great year after year.

Tried and true original.

When Hannibal Hayes, owner of Heliworks, specified roofing for his new heliport in

Queenstown, he chose Calder Stewart Hi Five roofing. He knows the rotor wash

from a helicopter can kick up all sorts of bits and pieces and our Hi Five roofing

profile has the wherewithal to stand up to it all. Supporting wide purlin spacing

and performing well on low pitch roofs, Hi Five is ideally suited for all cladding

applications down to 3 degrees. It can additionally be crimp curved, offering unique

architectural design possibilities.

A rugged performer.

Fonterra’s expansive Darfield complex didn’t just need “big”. It needed “Mega”.

Calder Stewart’s Mega 5 profile is being used for the roof and walls of the

massive state of the art 54,000m2 drystore building and inwards good unit.

Mega 5 roof and wall cladding are specialist commercial grade, high-rib, high

span profiles developed for large-scale buildings. They not only offer clean lines

but superior, cost-efficient coverage. Extraordinary strength allows for wide

purlin spacing of up to four metres. Mega 5’s superior interlocking design also

features a triple chamber anti-capillary to prevent wind blown water entering the

roof, protecting precious stocks and machinery.

When only Mega will do.

Mega 5

When Calder Stewart Industries were designing their massive 8300m2 Pre-Cast

plant, the largest in the South Island, cladding was no small decision. They

chose a profile for the roof and walls with the strength and finish to complement

this first class building. Calder Stewart Roofing’s V8/V6 dual profile range was

selected for its clean lines, proven track record and performance. V8/V6 has

the horsepower to tackle a massive range of applications both commercial

& residential, and has been used throughout New Zealand since it was

launched in 2005. When run from a narrower coil, V6 is an ideal profile for

smaller applications like carports and general shelters.

Proven track record.

Our noise controller.

When Parker Warburton were designing the award-winning Hunter Centre,

(an innovative learning hub for the University of Otago based around a

central atrium), there were a number of design and audio issues. Calder

Stewart Roofing’s Audio-Perf was chosen to help modulate the acoustics

in the potentially noisy and challenging communal space. A sleek finish and

excellent acoustic performance achieved exactly what the University needed.

Where fixed in accordance with installation instructions the system provides

both acoustic and fire performance. It is the ideal choice for school buildings,

including pools and gymnasiums or large retail/office spaces.

Calder Stewart Construction has built a solid name for itself in the specialist

commercial, industrial, agricultural and public-sector construction markets.

We have continued to focus on the core values we uphold; namely to

‘build it the right way’.

The use of structural steel has played a central role in the company’s overall

growth and building practices. The Calder Stewart Steel Division has one

of the largest most state-of-the-art fabrication plants in New Zealand.

We are renowned for finding ways to streamline steel detailing, pricing

and final fabrication.

Calder Stewart Pre-Cast facility is the largest in the South Island. It produces

a full variety of precast concrete products including in-plant and on-site

casting as well as textured, patterned and exposed aggregate finishing.

Combined with its extensive distribution network, Calder Stewart Pre-Cast

can provide superior high-quality, high-volume deliverables to any precast

construction project nationwide.

Calder Stewart Development builds on a tradition of entrepreneurial excellence,

having acquired an extensive range of premium land locations throughout the

South Island. We offer full design and build services with flexible options: purchase

or lease, including full turnkey solutions. Our team works with clients throughout the

planning and development process to ensure that the end result meets their needs.

Calder Stewart Forestry, has operated under the premise that cooperating

with nature has benefits. While planting trees is a business investment, being

environmentally responsible aligns with our ethos and principles: Be responsible

and do it right. Today we grow a number of Radiata Pine, Douglas Fir and

Macracarpa plantations with more mature forests now being harvested.

Controlling costs and operating efficiently are essential to remaining competitive in

the evolving building industry. That is why since its beginning, Calder Stewart has

made key investments in transport, maintaining its own fleet of vehicles. Today

Calder Stewart Distribution manages a number of heavy-duty tractor trailer trucks.

Calder Stewart’s ReoXpress Division supplies made to order pre-cut and

pre bent steel reinforcing. Central to its task is the ability to be flexible and

responsive. To this end, it has invested in industry-leading programmable

fabrication equipment and developed its own material handling strategies.
