From Fr. Steffl:
This weekend, I am making a special appeal at all the Holy Redeemer Masses for everyone to sign up for a set
hour of Adoration as we look to beginning Perpetual Adoration on Ash Wednesday in the chapel of the former
convent that is attached to Holy Redeemer School. This is an invitation to everyone to commit themselves to a
timeslot with the Lord, a “weekly appointment with Jesus.” I know that many from St. Michael’s in Milroy and St.
Mary’s in Tracy have work or other errands that bring them regularly to Marshall, and you are invited to be a part of
this as well. You can sign up for a time by calling the Holy Redeemer Office or signing up directly through the Holy
Redeemer/Bread of Life AFC web site or through this link: tinyurl.com/sk49aof Lent is a great time to add this to
your schedule. It is a gift to the Lord that will be repaid many times over in blessings.
Thursday, February 27 from 5:30 pm – 7:00 pm is the annual Campus Religious Center (CRC) Chili Feed in
Marshall. This fundraiser is an important part of the way we provide for the needs and support of the CRC building
and the programs that are offered for the Catholic college students who go to SMSU. I would like to invite everyone
to buy a ticket, even if you are not able to go to the Chili Feed, as a donation to the programs that we offer at the
CRC. (I see Tracy and Milroy parishioners once in a while at the 6 pm Sunday evening Mass at the CRC.) The CRC
is completely independent of SMSU and receives no funding from the diocese, so what is offered for the programs
for Catholic students there is supported solely by Holy Redeemer, along with half the cost of the upkeep of the
building (the other half of the building upkeep is paid by Lutheran Campus Ministry funds and donations that they
received, according to the agreement that was put in place when SMSU began). Tickets are $8 for adults and $5 for
students. There are volunteers who bring different types of chili, along with some sides and desserts, and each
person can vote on the best chili. (Last year the chili I brought won the award for being the best! Help me keep my
“golden ladle…”) We are able to offer some good programs at the CRC for students (high five to Becki Johnson for
her work with this…) and we do it on a “shoestring” budget. Many from the parish and area benefit from the Masses
that are offered at the CRC Chapel, and this fundraiser helps us a lot! Tickets can be purchased at the Holy
Redeemer Office, or at the Milroy or Tracy parish offices, or you can also just make a donation directly to Holy
Redeemer for the expenses we have for SMSU Campus Ministry so we can continue to offer programs there! It is a
good thing to be a part of – the programs we offer to Catholic college students in our area.
A parish Lenten Mission this year: we are going to be doing a mission that is DVD based called “The 99.” Its
focus is on what it truly takes to be one of the 99 in the parable of the lost sheep. Each evening at 6 pm on Sunday,
Monday and Tuesday (March 8, 9, and 10 in Milroy/ March 15, 16, and 17 in Marshall/ and March 22, 23, and
24 in Tracy). The video series will be shown in the church at 6 pm. (The videos feature 8 of the top Catholic
speakers in the United States will help us dig a little deeper into our personal relationship with the Lord.) There will
be challenges to us on how to live our faith, as well as validation of the steps we are taking to grow our relationship
with Jesus, especially during the season of Lent. After the DVD presentation on Sunday night, we will conclude
with Stations of the Cross, on Monday evening conclude with a ½ hour of Adoration with confessions available and
on Tuesday evening conclude with Mass. Each evening should be in all just a little over an hour of your time. So
put the dates on your calendar! I would like to especially extend an invitation to parishioners from our neighboring
parishes as well. Come and invite a friend.
