THANKSGIVING FUNNY

'Twas the night of Thanksgiving, but I just couldn't sleep... I tried counting backwards, I tried counting sheep. The leftovers beckoned...the dark meat and white, but I fought the temptation with all of my might. Tossing and turning with anticipation, the thought of a snack became infatuation. So, I raced to the kitchen, flung open the door and gazed at the fridge, full of goodies galore. I gobbled up turkey and buttered potatoes, stuffing with gravy, green beans and tomatoes. I felt myself swelling so plump and so round, till all of a sudden, I rose off the ground. I crashed through the ceiling, floating into the sky with a mouthful of pudding and a handful of pie But, I managed to yell as I soared past the trees... Happy eating to all -- pass the cranberries, please.Happy Thanksgiving!

Just to let everyone know David got home about 4:00am today. The work went good, the new roof is on and his parents were able to move back in Sunday night. They still have some internal damage (no bed room floor!), but are glad to be home. The picture is of David and his brothers who all worked on the project together along with his sister who lives there and a crew of friends. The weather was great, no rain and they worked from 5:00 am

Pony of the Month

“Ol Blue”

By Pete Delchambre

It was March 1974 and I was working for a private body shop in South Bend when my boss decided that he wanted to sell this ’69 Shelby GT500. We had recently finished a customized Corvette and his wife just had to have one! He said the only way they would have one was to sell the Shelby.

It was pretty rough! It had been wrecked on all corners and sides at one time or another and repainted with an aqua ground glass product that was yellowing and crazing. It was also mildly customized and had a hitch on it so they could tow their boat (which was painted the same color as the car). The clutch and exhaust system were gone and I had to come up with some tires and wheels.

We didn’t have the cash at the time and our bank would only loan us the book value of a ’69 Mustang. My boss agreed to keep the wheels and tires that he had on the car and an 8-track for the rest of the money. Fortu-nately, my boss steered me to an old partner of his who had the original wheels to the car. Boy, my dad wasn’t happy either!

He couldn’t see the diamond in the rough, but one of his friends who collected and restored motorcycles told him to leave me alone “he had a good feeling about this.”

We used “Ol Blue” for a second car for a while (like most young married folks had to). That’s when I slid it into a pole going down an icy hill. That actually turned out to be a good thing. I was able to purchase the sheet metal I need from Ford. I restored it in 1980 with a lot of help from my friends in the Mustang Club and had it ready in time for the Cavalcade of Wheels.

We could have sold her many times, but Chris and I decided to stick it out and hang on to her. We’ve given up a lot to keep the car. I have to give recognition here to my wife for being so patient and understanding.

It’s been many years and “Ol Blue” is due for another restoration, but every time I’m out in the garage and see the car I smile. I think of all the people that came up to me and said, “Wow, nice car! I had one of those but I sold it. Sure wish I had it now!” And I think, “Yah, I didn’t.”
