Week 15 | 2019-20 Women's Basketball 1 2019-20 STANDINGS RECAPPING THURSDAY'S GAMES • Duke opened Thursday's slate of games with a 73-56 road win at Pitt behind a game-high 20 points from senior Leaonna Odom, as the Blue Devils have now won seven of their last nine games. • Virginia erased a 22-point first-half deficit against Miami to rally for a 69-64 home win, as the Hurricanes are still looking for their first road win. The ACC scoring leader, Jocelyn Willoughby, led the Cavaliers with 25 points. • In Blacksburg, Virginia Tech overcame an eight-point Yellow Jackets lead to defeat Georgia Tech, 64-61, in overtime. Point guard Taja Cole came close to a triple-double, finishing with eight points, eight rebounds and eight assists in the game. • Wake Forest picked up a 66-52 road win to sweep the season series against Clemson behind 23 points from Ivana Raca. • Syracuse won their third straight and handed North Carolina its worst loss of the season with a 74-56 victory in Chapel Hill. • Senior Emma Guy hit a layup at the buzzer to give Boston College a come-from-behind victory over Notre Dame, 56-55, to complete the season sweep for the first time in program history. • Ninth-ranked Louisville handed No. 4 NC State its first home loss of the season with a 66-59 victory thanks to a game-high 19 points from Jazmine Jones and nearly a triple-double performance from Kylee Shook with 10 points, 20 rebounds and seven blocks. THREE TEAMS RANKED IN AP TOP 15, NC STATE LEAPS INTO TOP FIVE • Three ACC teams are ranked in the top 15 of this week's AP Top 25 Poll, as the conference has had three teams among the top 20 in each poll this season. • NC State leaps to No. 4 in the poll, its best ranking since the 1999-2000 season. NOTING ACC WOMEN'S BASKETBALL (CONT.)VIRGINIA'S WILLOUGHBY AMONG NATION'S LEADERS IN SCORING• Not only is Virginia's Jocelyn Willoughby among the conference's best scorers, but she is also in the conver-sation for the nation's top scorers.• She currently leads the ACC in scoring with 490 points this season and that mark ranks sixth nationally. Her 19.6 scoring average is among the top 20 in the NCAA.• Willoughby leads the conference with 12 20-point games, three more than the next-closest player.

LOUISVILLE'S SHOOK RANKED IN NATION'S TOP 10 FOR BLOCKS • Louisville senior forward Kylee Shook leads the conference and ranks ninth nationally with 69 blocks this season, no other ACC player has more than 46.• She had three blocks at Syracuse last Sunday to set the Cardinals single-season record for blocks in a season, eclipsing Yuliya Tokoya's 59 set during in 2006-07 season.

LOUISVILLE, NC STATE AMONG TOP 16 IN FIRST NCAA REVEAL• The NCAA Division I Women's Basketball Committee released its first top-16 reveal on last Monday (2/3) night and Louisville owned one of four No. 1 seeds.• NC State was listed as a No. 2 seed, as both teams would host a regional based on the projections.• The committee also provided region assignments, as

Louisville would be the No. 1 seed in the Fort Wayne Region.• The second top-16 reveal is set for March 2 during halftime of the South Florida-UConn game on ESPN2.

DROPPING DIMES• Virginia Tech's Taja Cole, Notre Dame's Marta Sniezek, Wake Forest's Gina Conti and North Carolina's Shayla Bennett all rank among the top 20 in the NCAA for assists this season.• Cole has dished out 154 assists to rank sixth, while Bennett has dished out 135 to occupy 13th.• Sniezek has tallied 129 to rank 19th and Conti is 20th with 128 assists.• The ACC's four among the top 20 is the most of any conference.

MIAMI'S MOMPREMIER NAMED ONE OF THIRTY CANDIDATES FOR SENIOR CLASS AWARD• Miami senior forward Beatrice Mompremier was named one of 30 candidates for the 2019-20 Women's Basketball Senior CLASS Award, which is given annually to student-athletes with notable achievements in four areas of excellence: community, classroom, character and competition.• She was named the 2019-20 ACC Preseason Player of the Year and is currently averaging a double-double with 16.3 points and 10.4 rebounds this season. The only senior on the Canes, Mompremier leads by example and is an active member of the community.

• BOSTON COLLEGE: BC’s seven wins ties the program record for most ACC wins in a single season. The last time BC won seven ACC games was in the 2007-08 and 2008-09 seasons. In both seasons, Boston College went 7-7 and finished tied for fifth in the ACC.

• CLEMSON: The Tigers lead the ACC in offensive re-bounds per game with 15.29 and team offensive rebounds with 367 this season.

• DUKE: The Blue Devils dished a season-best 22 assists and tied the season-low in turnovers with 11 in a 73-56 win at Pitt on Thursday.

• FLORIDA STATE: Kiah Gillespie received two major honors this week. The senior was selected to the Citizen’s Naismith Trophy Midseason 30 by the Atlanta Tipoff Club and earned a spot as a Katrina McClain Award finalist given to the nation’s top power forward.

• GEORGIA TECH: Four Yellow Jackets are averaging double-figure scoring numbers on the season, led by Fran-cesca Pan with a 12.2 points per game average. Jasmine Carson follows with 11.4 ppg, while Lorela Cubaj adds 10.4 ppg and Kierra Fletcher averages 10.2 ppg.

• LOUISVILLE: After a 66-59 win at No. 4 NC State on Thursday, UofL is 40-5 in ACC games the last three sea-sons. They are 19-3 in home games, 21-2 in road games with their two losses (L, 82-68 at ND, 1/10/19; L, 59-51 at Syr, 2/9/20).

• MIAMI: The Hurricanes have played one of the toughest schedules this season, ranking 10th in the nation in strength of schedule. Six of the Canes’ losses have come to top-25 RPI teams (Louisville - 12, Oregon State - 14, Indiana-15, DePaul - 19, Florida State -23).

• NORTH CAROLINA: UNC leads the ACC in scoring (73.88 ppg) and in assist/turnover ratio (1.22)

• NC STATE: The Wolfpack owned advantages in rebounding (39-34) and second-chance points (15-10) and turned the ball over just eight times against Louisville

• NOTRE DAME: Notre Dame didn’t allow a Boston Col-lege field goal from 9:35 in the first to 0:25, as the Eagles went 0-for-17 in said span.

• PITT: The Panthers racked up 46 rebounds, 23 offensive, in Thursday’s loss to Duke, their 14th game this season with at least 40 boards.

• SYRACUSE: Orange sophomore Emily Engstler notched her ninth double-double of the season on Thursday, scor-ing 16 points and grabbing 15 rebounds in a 74-56 road win over North Carolina.

• VIRGINIA: Powered by senior Jocelyn Willoughby’s 25 points, the Cavaliers erased a 37-15 deficit against visiting Miami on Thursday, eventually earning the 69-64 victory. Virginia shot 70 percent from the floor in the fourth quarter.

• VIRGINIA TECH: Aisha Sheppard has hit a 3-pointer in 31 consecutive games, dating back to January 29, 2019, a school record. After climbing to second place all-time at Virginia Tech in 3's last week, now has 206 for her career.

• WAKE FOREST: In Wake Forest’s 66-52 home win over Clemson on Thursday, Senior Alex Sharp led the Demon Deacons in rebounding, marking the fifth consecutive game Sharp has led the team in boards.

FLORIDA STATE'S SEMRAU JOINS ELITE GROUP • Florida State head coach Sue Semrau earned her 200th ACC win against North Carolina on Sunday, Jan. 12, to become just the fourth coach in league history to reach the milestone. She is joined Virginia’s Debbie Ryan (307 ACC wins), North Carolina’s Sylvia Hatchell (297) and NC State’s Kay Yow (277).

FOUR FROM ACC NAMED TO WOODEN AWARD MIDSEASON WATCH LIST• Four ACC student-athletes have been named to the John R. Wooden Award Midseason Watch List, as the list is comprised of 25 student-athletes who are the front-run-ners for basketball's most prestigious honor.• Florida State's senior forward Kiah Gillespie, Louisville's senior guard Dana Evans, Miami's senior forward Beatrice Mompremier and NC State's sophomore center Elissa Cunane were tabbed for the listing.

ON TARGET FROM 3-POINT LAND• Virginia Tech's Aisha Sheppard joined Clemson's Kendall Spray as the only two players in the ACC this season to make eight 3-pointers in a game when she accomplished the feat against NC State.• Both players tied their respective school records for 3-point field goals in a single game and the duo is tied for the most by any ACC player in a game this season.• Only 24 players in the NCAA have made at least eight threes in a game.

SHOOTING IT WELL• Five ACC teams rank among the top 70 in the NCAA in field-goal percentage.• Louisville leads the league at No. 18 with a 45.4 field-goal percentage, while Florida State has connected on 45.2 percent of its shots to rank 23rd. • NC State has made 43.7 percent of its shots to rank 44th, while Boston College has hit 43.4 percent, good for 50th.• Virginia Tech rounds out the group at No. 69 with 42.6 percent.

CRASHING THE BOARDS• Six ACC teams rank among the nation's top 50 teams in rebounding margin, the most of any conference, led by No. 9 NC State. The Wolfpack has averaged 9.8 more rebounds than its opponents this season.
