ABOUTTHECOVER

#Scholarlydone

Scholarly writing is generating new

knowledge. This is because of the writers’

discoveries and investigations. Let the result

disturb the minds of the people. Let it disturb

the society.

When you write, begin with a clear direction. Make it short

and concise but direct to the point. Pen scholarly done paper. Can

you recall all your paper works from the time you entered graduate

school or post-graduate school? Do you realize that your works may

not qualify as scholarly done? Review them. Is the content of your

paper from your own knowledge? Or is it from copying and pasting

the works of others? Or is it about synthesizing the work of other

scholars? Your answer maybe a ‘yes’ or a ‘no’. A scholar should cre-

ate knowledge, investigate ideas, and discover ne information.

Scholarly writing is about providing solutions to the problem

and later on discovering new problem from the problem itself. What

about the researches at the resource center of the college? Are new

knowledge being presented to organizations or individuals con-

cerned? Are the outputs publishable? Does the college have the

mechanism to utilize the research findings? Or are the researches for

compliance only? The papers are just there – like water ‘left to stand

and settle’. Even the students of the college do not know the result of

the studies unless they are used as reference in thesis or disserta-

tion. Thesis conference and consultation may be an avenue where

research findings and recommendations are presented to different

stakeholders.

From student to scholar – why not? This is possible. USePi-

ans are intelligent and diligent. Working from Monday to Friday and

studying every Saturday starting from 7am to 7pm is indeed a char-

acteristic of a true scholar. Reading hundreds of pages to come up

with a one page scholarly written reaction paper is no simple feat.

You are a scholar if you will make a difference. No to copying and

pasting of other people’s works. Do not limit your imagination. Think

out of the box. Learn to write like a scholar.

ASEAN Integration man-dates cooperation not

competition By Karla Psalm Magno

“ASEAN integration is not about competition but rather col-laboration with the other coun-tries as one region”, Usec. Janet Lopoz of Mindanao Development Authority (MinDA) said during the forum on ASEAN Economic Community: Implications and Imperatives in Mindanao held last March 7, 2015 at the USeP Gymnasium, Bo. Obrero Davao City. She also emphasized that the “people should think globally, act locally, and respond personally” to attain the purpose of the ASEAN integration. The said forum focused on two topics. The first topic was dubbed as “Positioning the Phil-ippines in the ASEAN Economic Community” with Usec. Lopoz of MINDA as resource speaker, and one discussant, Engr. Edwin O. Banquerigo, Provincial Direc-tor of Department of Trade and Industry. The second topic was “ASEAN Economic Community: Implications and Imperatives to Higher Education”. The resource speaker was Dr. Susan Labutap, from the Commission on Higher Education (CHED) XI. There

were two discussants - Sherwin B. Manuel, Planning Designate of the De-partment of Labor and Employment (DOLE), and Sr. Ma. Marissa Viri, RVM, President of University of the Immaculate Conception. “Education is one of the sectors impacted by globalization. Today, it is not simply improving the quality of learning and research in tertiary edu-cation. More importantly, there is a need to develop the capacity to com-pete in the global tertiary education marketplace. A borderless society, cross-mobility of students, workers, and businesses are bound to happen”, Dr. Labutap stressed. The forum was conducted to help address the information, educa-tion, and communication campaign on ASEAN Integration 2015 and to deep-en the appreciation of the students and teachers on the ASEAN integra-tion in the context of business, devel-opment, and public administration. The forum was attended by hundreds of graduate and undergraduate stu-dents and faculty of the College.

SSC launches the first CGB Thesis Conference

By: Jandryle U. Trondillo

He explained that he was able to cull the

results of his study by first assessing the

status of gender division of labor of the

indigenous peoples residing in the Mu-

nicipality of Nabunturan. Moreover, com-

petitive professors and sufficient library

resources also helped him finish his

studies.

Delegates from different countries con-

vened to present their studies in the area

of public administration.

Meanwhile, the former Dean of the Col-

lege, Dr. Sherlito C. Sable said he ad-

heres to this concept of “University” - that

an institution classified as a “University”

should embody the culture of producing

genuine and quality research papers and

imbibe the core values of the institution.

Dr. Sable also lauded the efforts of the

administration, faculty and staff of the

college for passionately striving to give

the best service possible to the institution

and that it redounds to excellent student

was indeed monumental as it served as a

springboard to organize more conferences

of such in the university.

“It is a huge honor to be part of the organ-

izing body of this very first CGB thesis

conference. It is a humbling experience to

pioneer such a monumental event. This

will definitely become a part of our pro-

jects,” said Parreño.

The activity is scheduled every third Satur-

day of the month, from 12:00nn to 1:00pm

at the CGB Resource Center with one or

two speakers every session starting last

AACCUP LEVEL 2 A CCREDITED

By Karl Campos

The Master of Business Admin-

istration and Master of Public Ad-

ministration Programs of College of

Governance and Business of the

University of Southeastern Philip-

pines (USEP) have moved a notch

higher by passing the Accrediting

Agency of Chartered Colleges and

Universities in the Philippines

(AACCUP) level 2 accreditation.

The accreditation process which

was held last October 6 to 10,

2014, involved the assessment of

the University’s Vision, Mission,

Goals and Objectives (VMGO),

Faculty, Curriculum and Instruction,

Support to Students, Research,

Extensions and Community Involve-

ment, Library, Physical Facilities,

Laboratories, and Administration.

According to Prof. Aristeo C.

Salapa, CGB Accreditation head,

that the CGB passed common

standards, met qualifications set by

accrediting agency, and was able to

attune with certain demands and

qualifications set by programs.

“The number of accredited pro-

grams from an institution like USeP

manifests better support from Con-

gress, CHED support and agency

nod”, Salapa added. With the

leveling up of USeP, its vision to

become a premiere university in the

ASEAN Region is not farfetched.
