to obtain the minimum coldness.• turn the Temperature regulator toward higher settings

to obtain the maximum coldness.

A medium setting is generally the most suitable.

However, the exact setting should be chosen keeping inmind that the temperature inside the appliance dependson:• room temperature• how often the door is opened• the quantity of food stored• the location of the appliance.

Important! If the ambient temperature is high or theappliance is fully loaded, and the appliance is set to thelowest temperatures, it may run continuously causingfrost to form on the rear wall. In this case the dial mustbe set to a higher temperature to allow automaticdefrosting and therefore reduced energy consumption.

First use

Cleaning the interiorBefore using the appliance for the first time, wash theinterior and all internal accessories with lukewarm waterand some neutral soap so as to remove the typical smellof a brand-new product, then dry thoroughly.

Important! Do not use detergents or abrasive powders,as these will damage the finish.

Daily use

Freezing fresh foodThe freezer compartment is suitable for freezing freshfood and storing frozen and deep-frozen food for a longtime.To freeze fresh foods it is not necessary to change themedium setting.However, for a faster freezing operation, turn the tem-perature regulator toward higher settings to obtain themaximum coldness.

Important! In this condition, the refrigeratorcompartment temperature might drop below 0°C. If this

occurs reset the temperature regulator to a warmersetting.

Important! In the event of accidental defrosting, forexample due to a power failure, if the power has beenoff for longer than the value shown in the technicalcharacteristics chart under "rising time", the defrostedfood must be consumed quickly or cooked immediatelyand then re-frozen (after cooling).

Ice-cube productionThis appliance is equipped with one or more trays forthe production of ice-cubes. Fill these trays with water,then put them in the freezer compartment.

Important! Do not use metallic instruments to removethe trays from the freezer.

ThawingDeep-frozen or frozen food, prior to being used, can bethawed in the refrigerator compartment or at room tem-perature, depending on the time available for this opera-tion.Small pieces may even be cooked still frozen, directlyfrom the freezer: in this case, cooking will take longer.Movable shelves

The walls of the refrigera-tor are equipped with aseries of runners so thatthe shelves can be posi-tioned as desired.

Positioning the door shelves

To permit storage of foodpackages of varioussizes, the door shelvescan be placed at differentheights.

Gradually pull the shelf inthe direction of the ar-rows until it comes free,then reposition as re-quired.

Helpful hints and tips

Normal Operating Sounds• You may hear a faint gurgling and a bubbling sound

when the refrigerant is pumped through the coils ortubing. This is correct.

• When the compressor is on, the refrigerant is beingpumped around and you will hear a whirring soundand a pulsating noise from the compressor. This iscorrect.

• The thermic dilatation might cause a sudden crackingnoise. It is natural, not dangerous physical phenom-enon. This is correct.

• When the compressor switches on or switches off,you will hear a faint "click" of the temperature regula-tor. This is correct.

Hints for energy saving• Do not open the door frequently or leave it open lon-

ger than absolutely necessary.• If the ambient temperature is high and the Tempera-

ture Regulator is set to low temperature and the ap-pliance is fully loaded, the compressor may run con-tinuously, causing frost or ice on the evaporator. Ifthis happens, set the Temperature Regulator towardwarmer settings to allow automatic defrosting and soa saving in electricity consumption.

Hints for fresh food refrigerationTo obtain the best performance:• do not store warm food or evaporating liquids in the

refrigerator• do cover or wrap the food, particularly if it has a

strong flavour• position food so that air can circulate freely around itHints for refrigerationUseful hints:Meat (all types) : wrap in polythene bags and place onthe glass shelf above the vegetable drawer.For safety, store in this way only one or two days at themost.Cooked foods, cold dishes, etc.: these should be cov-ered and may be placed on any shelf.Fruits and vegetables: these should be thoroughlycleaned and placed in the special drawer(s) provided.When in contact, lemon juice can discolor the plasticparts of your fridge. It is therefore recommended to keepcitruses in separate containers.Butter and cheese: these should be placed in specialairtight containers or wrapped in aluminium foil or poly-thene bags to exclude as much air as possible.Bottles: these should have a cap and should be storedin the bottle rack on the door.Bananas, potatoes, onions and garlic, if not packed,must not be kept in the refrigerator.Hints for freezingTo help you make the most of the freezing process,here are some important hints:• the maximum quantity of food which can be frozen in

24 hrs. is shown on the rating plate;• the freezing process takes 24 hours. No further food

to be frozen should be added during this period;

• only freeze top quality, fresh and thoroughly cleaned,foodstuffs;

• prepare food in small portions to enable it to be rapid-ly and completely frozen and to make it possible sub-sequently to thaw only the quantity required;

• wrap up the food in aluminium foil or polythene andmake sure that the packages are airtight;

• do not allow fresh, unfrozen food to touch food whichis already frozen, thus avoiding a rise in temperatureof the latter;

• lean foods store better and longer than fatty ones;salt reduces the storage life of food;

• water ices, if consumed immediately after removalfrom the freezer compartment, can possibly causethe skin to be freeze burnt;

• it is advisable to show the freezing in date on eachindividual pack to enable you to keep tab of the stor-age time.

Hints for storage of frozen foodTo obtain the best performance from this appliance, youshould:• make sure that the commercially frozen foodstuffs

were adequately stored by the retailer;• be sure that frozen foodstuffs are transferred from

the foodstore to the freezer in the shortest possibletime;

• not open the door frequently or leave it open longerthan absolutely necessary;

• once defrosted, food deteriorates rapidly and cannotbe refrozen;

• do not exceed the storage period indicated by thefood manufacturer.
