Introduction

Thank you for purchasing Border Patrol — the safe, effective way to keep your dog protected and contained in your home.

Developed by passionate pet owners, the Border Patrol system is simple to set up and use. With the ComCollar, CheckPoints and optional SafetyStation, you can create boundaries anywhere in your home and quickly train your dog to respect them — no more confining your pet behind gates or doors to keep him safe.

This guide will help you make the most of your new Border Patrol system. Please review the entire booklet before you begin.

Registering Your Border Patrol System

To help you recover your dog should he become lost and to receive access to all of Bor-der Patrol’s features, register your ComCollar and SafetyStation (if using) with World-wide Pet Products. You may either mail the registration card included with your system or register online at www.worldwidepetproducts.com/account.

Lost Dog AssistanceThe ComCollar is engraved with a unique pet ID number and the Worldwide Pet Products web address. If your dog is lost, anyone who finds him can visit the website and submit the ComCollar ID number and his or her phone number. Worldwide Pet Products will use your registration information to contact you so that you may make arrangements to retrieve your dog.

Internet-Enabled FeaturesIf you are using the SafetyStation and have connected it to the Internet (see page 13 for more information), you may register it online. Once you register, you’ll be able to take advantage of Border Patrol’s Internet-based features, including lost pet notification and remote system access and electronic alerts. You’ll also be able to receive system updates and notifications about new features.

Overview

An Overview of Border Patrol and Border Patrol Premier

Border Patrol includes two components: a CheckPoint and a ComCollar. The deluxe version of the system, Border Patrol Premier, includes an additional CheckPoint and the SafetyStation. Both systems create in-home boundaries that your dog will understandand observe.

The CheckPoint, which plugs into a standard 110V AC wall outlet, emits an invisible beam to define boundaries for your dog. By communicating with the ComCollar, the CheckPoint alerts your dog to his boundaries and corrects him if he crosses them. Use multiple CheckPoints to create as many boundaries as you need.

The ComCollar corrects your dog with vibration or static signals when he approaches a boundary. In addition, when used with the SafetyStation, the collar can be used to safely discourage nuisance barking.

If used, the optional SafetyStation tracks and communicates with the ComCollar, alerting you when your pet escapes and allowing you to set the bark control feature or temporarily disable the system. When connected to the Internet, the SafetyStation can send you electronic notifications when your pet escapes and also allows you to control the system remotely and receive system updates.

Quick Start Guide

1. Plug the SafetyStation into a power outlet using the power supply (included). If you would like to use the Internet-based features of the Border Patrol system, connect the SafetyStation to your router or network device using the Ethernet cable (included), and go to www.worldwidepetproducts.com/Account to activate these features.

Border Patrol is easy to set up — just four steps and you’re ready to go.

2. Install the battery (included) negative (-) end first in theComCollar and place the collar on your dog. The ComCollar shouldbe snug but not too tight, with the four nylon contact points restingcomfortably against your dog’s neck.

3. Create a boundary for your dog by plugging one CheckPoint into an electrical outlet. Adjust the beam to separate the safe area from the off-limits area, making sure there are no objects in the path of the beam. Repeat with the second CheckPoint, if desired.

4. Train your dog. Lead him toward the boundary, which will cause theComCollar to vibrate. Say “No!” to your dog, then lead him away fromthe boundary so the vibration stops. Repeat this as needed until your dog understands that vibration means off-limits.

Once you’ve followed these steps, Border Patrol is operating and your pet is protected.04

Using the ComCollar

To keep your dog safe and contained, the ComCollar vibrates or delivers a safe static correction when your dog approaches a boundary.

Correction SignalsWorking with the CheckPoint(s), the ComCollar will correct your dog if he approaches a boundary. There are two types of correction signal: a gentle vibration and a more noticeable but safe static correction, both delivered through four contact points onthe collar.

The ComCollar includes three sets of contacts — one nylon, one short metal and one long metal. If you want to be sure your dog never receives static correction, use the nylon contacts that come pre-installed on the collar. If you determine that your dog requires both vibration and static correction, remove the battery from the collar, remove the nylon contacts by turning them counter-clockwise, replace them with a set of the metal

Activating the ComCollar1. Open the battery compartment on the bottom of the ComCollar and insert one battery (included), negative (–) end first. The LED lights on the collar will flash several times to indicate that the device is active.

2. Put the ComCollar on your dog. It should be snug but not constricting, and each of the four nylon contact points should touch your dog’s neck. If you’re using a SafetyStation, please see page 10.

Please note that the ComCollar includes no buttons or switches — the CheckPoints and the optional SafetyStation control all of its functions.

contacts (turning clockwise to tighten), and re-install the battery. Use the short contacts for shorthaired dogs, and use the long contacts for long-haired dogs. For more information on choosing correction modes, see “Training Your Dog,” page 9.

LED Lights The ComCollar features ultra-bright LED lights. If you are using the SafetyStation, these lights will flash if your pet wanders more than 150 feet away from the SafetyStation. This will make your dog easier to find and more visible to traffic.

In addition, the lights will pulse slowly and dimly to indicate a low battery and will flash briefly when the ComCollar connects with the SafetyStation. For more information about the SafetyStation, see page 10.

BatteryThe ComCollar requires a single 3V CR123 battery (included). Insert the battery negative (-) end first. With normal use, a battery will last about 30 days, but battery life will vary depending on your dog’s activity and need for correction. To conserve power, the ComCollar will shut down when your dog is asleep or inactive. Please be sure to read the battery safety precautions on page 17.

Nameplate EngravingTo identify your dog, you may wish to purchase a nameplate for his ComCollar. The metal plate, which can be engraved with your pet’s name and your contact information, can be purchased by visiting www.worldwidepetproducts.com or calling 888.676.1099. When you receive the plate, affix it by removing the backing paper and attaching it to the recessed area on the face of the ComCollar.

Creating Boundaries with the CheckPoint

CheckPoints send out invisible beams to create boundaries in your home. Whenyour dog crosses a CheckPoint beam while wearing the ComCollar, he receives a correction signal.

When plugged into a standard 110V AC wall outlet, the ring around the CheckPoint will glow blue. This ring visually alerts your dog to his boundary, helping reinforce the difference between safe and off-limits areas.

Positioning the CheckPoint The CheckPoint can be used to keep your dog in or out of a specific room or area. You can also place it at an outside door to discourage your dog from leaving the house.

First, plug in the CheckPoint. Using the 360°-adjustable turret and the 90°-adjustable beam, aim the CheckPoint to create an invisible boundary for your dog. Because you can’t see the CheckPoint beam, you’ll need to test its location. Hold the ComCollar in your hand and walk toward the beam, noting the point at which a correction is issued. If needed, adjust the aim.

Once the CheckPoint beam is set, the system is ready for use. If this is the first time you’ve used the system, you will want to spend a few minutes training your dog. For more information on training, see page 9.

CheckPoint ModesThe CheckPoint has three operating modes: vibration-only correction (green light), mixed correction (amber light) and static correction (red light). To choose a mode, press the mode button on the side of the CheckPoint. The CheckPoint will cycle through the three modes — each of which is indicated by light color.

Vibration-only correction mode (green). In this mode, which is the CheckPoint’s default, the ComCollar vibrates when your dog approaches a boundary. Most dogs, once trained to understand their boundaries, will only require vibration correction.

Mixed correction mode (amber). Push the mode button once to choose mixed correction. In this setting, the ComCollar will vibrate when your dog approaches a boundary. If he enters the area and does not move back into the safe zone, the collar will emit a static correction that gradually increases in strength. The static correction is never harmful, but it will motivate your dog to respect the boundary. (Static correction can be applied only if you have fitted the ComCollar with metal contact points, which are included with the system. See page 5 for more information.)

Static correction mode (red). Push the mode button twice to choose the static correction setting. This mode applies immediate, simultaneous static and vibration correction at a steady strength whenever your dog approaches a boundary. This mode is recommended only for particularly stubborn dogs. While the correction is safe and will not harm your dog, it is unnecessary for most pets. (Again, static correction can be issued only via metal contact points. See page 5 for more information.)

Training Your Dog

Most dogs will need only a few minutes of training to understand the Border Patrol system. To begin, fit your dog with the ComCollar and choose vibration-only correction mode (green) on the CheckPoint. Then lead your pet toward a boundary. When the collar begins to vibrate, firmly say “No!” and lead him away from the area until the vibration stops. Repeat this until your dog begins to observe the boundaries on his own.

When choosing a correction mode, use the vibration-only setting if possible. Particularly large or stubborn dogs may require stronger levels of correction, however, so if your dog does not respond to vibration, you may choose mixed correction mode (amber) or static correction mode (red).

Remember that your dog will respond to training at his own pace. Some dogs understand quickly while others are resistant. For the best results, tailor your training program to match your dog’s personality. You may want to use the same techniques that helped you train your dog to sit, stay and heel. In rare cases, your dog may at first need visual reminders of the CheckPoint beam, like a line of masking tape on the floor.

Even after your dog understands his boundaries, you may want to reinforce his understanding with occasional retraining.

Managing Your System with the SafetyStation

The optional SafetyStation (included with Border Patrol Premier) allows you to activate additional Border Patrol features, including bark correction and an escape siren. You may also connect the SafetyStation to the Internet for additional escape notification features and remote system access.

Setting up the SafetyStationWhen selecting a location for the SafetyStation, choose a place that is:

Central in your home. The SafetyStation will sound an alarm if your pet strays more than 150 feet from the SafetyStation, so choose a central location in your home.

Convenient. You’ll want easy access to the controls on the SafetyStation.

Close to your Internet connection. If you plan to use the Internet-based features, you’ll need to connect the SafetyStation to your router or network device with the included Ethernet cable. (Please note that if you receive Internet service through your cable, satellite or other television service provider, your set-top box may include an Ethernet connection.)

To activate the SafetyStation, connect the power supply (included) and plug it in to a standard wall outlet. The blue indicator light on the top right of the SafetyStation will glow to confirm the unit is on. Once you install the battery in the ComCollar, the SafetyStation will contact the collar automatically, and the light bar on the front of the SafetyStation will flash intermittently to confirm that a connection has been made.

If you plan to use the SafetyStation’s Internet-enabled features (explained on page 13),remove the battery from your ComCollar, plug the supplied Ethernet cable into the back ofthe SafetyStation and connect it to your router or network device. Then re-insert thebattery into the ComCollar (negative (-) end first). The unit will automatically contact theWorldwide Pet Products servers — there is no software to install or configure. To indicatethat the SafetyStation is successfully connected, the ComCollar will flash red and the“indicator bar” on the SafetyStation will blink green every few seconds as you move theComCollar around. Go to www.worldwidepetproducts.com to register your SafetyStationand ComCollar and provide information about you and your pet. To add your SafetyStation,select the “SafetyStation” tab. The SafetyStation ID will appear automatically after a fewseconds. Fill in the other requested information and click add.

To add your ComCollar, repeat this process under the “ComCollar” tab and add a petunder the “Pet Profile” tab. After registering your SafetyStation and ComCollar, the blueindicator light on the top center of the SafetyStation will flash until a connection is made and will glow steadily blue when the connection is confirmed.

To add an additional ComCollar, first make sure there is no battery in the new ComCollar.Hold down the center button on the SafetyStation for three seconds until the “indicatorbar” starts blinking red. Insert the battery into the ComCollar (negative (-) end first). Theindicator bar on the SafetyStation will blink green every few seconds as you move theComCollar around. Log onto your account at www.worldwidepetproducts.com/account,and add a new pet under the “Pet Profile” tab. Then add your new ComCollar by selectingthe “ComCollar” tab. The ComCollar ID will appear automatically after a few seconds.Select a pet from the drop down box and click add. (For each additional ComCollar, repeatthe above steps.)11

Standard Features The SafetyStation includes the following standard features:

Audible escape alarm. The SafetyStation will sound a built-in alarm if your dog wanders more than 150 feet from the unit and remains outside the area for more than two minutes. This alarm sounds automatically, but you may silence it by pressing the button on the top center of the SafetyStation.

Suspend mode. When you want to take your dog for a walk or allow him to roam freely in your home, press the blue indicator light on the top right of the SafetyStation to temporarily disable the escape alarm and the correction features. The blue indicator light will not glow when these features are disabled. When you want to turn the alarm and correction features back on, press the button again.

Bark Correction mode. To enable bark correction, press the bark correction button . In this mode, the ComCollar will sense repeated barking and issue a correction, which will vary based on the severity of the barking.

Note: Static correction will not be applied unless the ComCollar has been fitted with metal contact points. Please remove the battery from the collar before changing contact points.

If your dog barks twice within 15 seconds, the ComCollar issues a vibration.•

If your dog continues to bark (or if there are several barks in close succession), the ComCollar vibrates, followed by increasing static correction.

If your dog continues barking for 30 seconds, the ComCollar issues immediate static and vibration correction at a steady strength.

If your dog stops barking for 30 seconds, the ComCollar resets. If Border Patrol issues the most severe correction three consecutive times, the bark correction feature will be disabled for several minutes and then will automatically reset.

Internet-Enabled FeaturesWhen your SafetyStation is connected to the Internet, you can control Border Patrol remotely and receive automated alerts about your pet’s behavior. To take advantage of these features and manage your settings, visit www.worldwidepetproducts.com and activate your system or log in.

All Internet-enabled features are provided free of charge for a six-month trial period beginning at the date of activation. After the trial expires, they are available for a small annual fee.

Electronic escape notification. If your dog strays more than 150 feet from the SafetyStation and remains there for more than two minutes, the escape notification feature will alert you via text message or e-mail. You will also be notified if your dog returns within range.

Remote on/off. Activate or deactivate your Border Patrol system through the Worldwide Pet Products website.

Remote bark correction control. Activate or deactivate bark correction through the Worldwide Pet Products website.

Low-battery warning. Receive an alert via text message or e-mail when the ComCollar battery is low.

You can specify your preferences for all notifications at www.worldwidepetproducts.com. For example, you could opt to have alerts sent to you by text message and to your spouse or neighbor by e-mail.

Worldwide Pet Products plans to introduce new Internet-enabled features from time to time, including excessive barking notification (if your dog barks excessively, Border Patrol will notify you via text message or e-mail), activity tracking (Border Patrol will keep track of when your dog is asleep and when he is active), etc. We will notify you when new features are available.

To maximize the performance and effectiveness of your Border Patrol sytem, please keep the following in mind.

While nearly all dogs respond positively to the Border Patrol system, there may be certain circumstances in which your pet ignores correction and crosses a boundary. This could occur if a stranger enters your home, if your dog senses acute danger or if he is given an opportunity to escape.

Large dogs or dogs with thick coats may not respond to vibration-only correction and you may find that mixed correction or static correction is necessary. Remember that these modes are safe to use. Choose the level of correction that works best for your pet.

The CheckPoints use invisible beams of light to create boundaries. On rare occasions, these beams can be affected by ambient light and reflections from floor and wall surfaces. Remember to place CheckPoints in areas without obstructions.

If you won’t be using the ComCollar for an extended period, remove the battery to prevent corrosion. For more information, please see Battery Guidelines and Warnings on page 17.

User Tips

Please read the following guidelines before operating your Border Patrol system.

Do not use Border Patrol on people.

Make sure to insert the battery negative (–) end first.

Do not use Border Patrol on dogs under 10 pounds.

Do not attach a leash to the ComCollar. Doing so may injure your pet.

Do not place the SafetyStation near any heat sources such as radiators, heat registers or stoves.

To reduce the risk of fire or electric shock, do not expose the CheckPoints or SafetyStation to rain or moisture. Do not place liquid-filled objects (like vases) near the components.

Clean the SafetyStation and CheckPoints only with dry cloth. The ComCollar is water-resistant and may be cleaned with a damp cloth.

Do not pinch the SafetyStation’s power supply cord.

Only use attachments, accessories and cables provided by the manufacturer.

Return all components to Worldwide Pet Products for servicing.

Follow these guidelines to prolong the life of your battery and avoid risk of damage and injury.

Use only lithium 3V CR123 batteries.

Make sure to insert the battery negative (–) end first.

Do not leave a battery in the ComCollar when the collar is not in use.

Avoid over-discharging the battery. Once you receive a low-battery warning, replace the battery promptly.

Do not leave the ComCollar or battery where your dog may chew on them. If the battery cell is punctured, it may release electrolyte, which can be harmful to you and your dog.

Do not expose the ComCollar to a heat source.

When storing the ComCollar or battery, keep them in a cool, dry place.

Do not operate the ComCollar in temperatures less than -4° F or greater than 110° F.

Battery Guidelines and Warnings

Subject to the terms and conditions contained herein, Worldwide Pet Products warrants to the

original retail purchaser that the Border Patrol product covered hereby will be free from defects in

workmanship or materials for a period of ninety (90) days from the date of original retail purchase.

Worldwide Pet Products will repair or replace, at its sole discretion, the Border Patrol product that

proves defective hereunder during the warranty period. The repair or replacement will be made at no

charge to you for parts or labor; however, you are responsible for shipping and transportation costs.

This warranty does not cover lost or stolen products. Further, this limited warranty does not include

and is void with respect to the following:

Products that have been improperly installed or used

Products that have been opened, modified, serviced, or repaired

Products that have not been properly maintained

Products that have been subjected to abuse, neglect, misuse, physical damage, exposure to power

surges, fire, water or excessive moisture or dampness, or other acts of nature

Products that have been subjected to dog chews or accidental damage

Products that are used outside the limits of the product’s technical specifications or instructions

Products that are used for commercial purposes

No retailer, reseller, agent, or employee is authorized to make any modification, extension or addition

to this warranty.

IF YOU DO NOT CONSENT TO THE TERMS OF THIS AGREEMENT, PLEASE RETURN THIS PRODUCT, UNUSED, TO THE PLACE WHERE YOU PURCHASED IT FOR A REFUND.The Embedded Software. The product you have purchased (the “Product”) includes embedded software in object code form and/or related documentation (the “Software”) supplied by Worldwide Pet Products (“Company”). While the Product is being sold to you, the Software is not being sold to you. Rather, you are only being authorized, or licensed, to use the Software pursuant to the terms of this Agreement. This Agreement is separate from, and does not modify or abrogate in any way, the terms of any agreement you may have reached with the seller of the Product into which the Software has been embedded. All provisions, conditions, agreements, and/or warranties included with the Product other than this Agreement are and shall be separate from, and shall not modify or abrogate in any manner, the terms of this Agreement, and shall have no bearing upon your right to use the Software or the limitations upon that right set forth in this Agreement.

Grant of License and Restrictions on Use. Company hereby grants you a nonexclusive license to use the Software in object code form for its intended purpose in conjunction with your operation and use of the Product. You may not copy in whole or in part, decompile, reverse engineer, decipher, disassemble, modify, alter, remove, or create any derivative works from the Software.

Transfer of License. You may transfer your license rights pursuant to this Agreement only pursuant to a permanent transfer of ownership of the Product in which the Software is embedded. However, such a transfer shall only be effective if the party to whom ownership of the Product is transferred receives a copy of this Agreement along with all other user documentation for the Product and agrees to accept the terms and conditions of this Agreement. Other than as permitted herein, you may not transfer, assign or license your rights under this Agreement or otherwise license or transfer the Software to any other party.

TO USE THE SOFTWARE OR THE PRODUCT, OR FROM COMPANY’S PERFORMANCE OR FAILURE

TO PERFORM UNDER THIS AGREEMENT ARISING FROM ANY CAUSE OF ACTION WHATSOEVER,

INCLUDING CONTRACT, WARRANTY, STRICT LIABILITY, OR NEGLIGENCE, EVEN IF COMPANY HAS

BEEN NOTIFIED IN ADVANCE OF THE POSSIBILITY YOU WOULD SUFFER SUCH DAMAGE.

Termination. This Agreement is effective until terminated. Your rights under this Agreement will

terminate immediately if you fail to comply with any terms or conditions of this Agreement.

Injunctive Relief. It is hereby understood and agreed that damages shall be an inadequate remedy in

the event you breach any of the limitations on your license to use and/or transfer the Software set forth

herein, and such breach will cause Company great and irreparable injury and damage. Accordingly,

you agree that Company shall be entitled, without waiving any additional rights or remedies otherwise

available to Company at law or in equity or by statute, to injunctive relief and other equitable relief in the

event you breach or threaten to breach the Agreement.

Severability. If any provision of this Agreement shall be held to be invalid or unenforceable for any reason,

the remaining provisions shall continue to be valid and enforceable. If a court finds that any provision of

this Agreement is invalid or unenforceable, but that by limiting such provision it would become valid or

enforceable, then such provision shall be deemed to be written, construed and enforced as so limited.

Choice of Law and Forum. This Agreement shall be governed by the laws of the State of North Carolina

without regard to any conflict of laws principles and Company shall, without limitation, be entitled to bring

any action for breach of this Agreement in any state or federal court in the state of North Carolina.

Federal Communications Commission Interference Statement

This equipment has been tested and found to comply with the limits for class B digital devices,

pursuant to Part 15 of the FCC Rules. These limits are designed to provide reasonable protection

against harmful interference in a residential installation. This equipment generates, uses and can

radiate radio frequency energy and, if not installed and used in accordance with the instructions, may

cause harmful interference to radio communications. However, there is no guarantee that interference

will not occur in a particular installation. If this equipment does cause harmful interference to radio

or television reception, which can be determined by turning the equipment off and on, the user is

encouraged to try to correct the interference by one or more of the following measures:

Reorient or relocate the receiving antenna

Increase the separation between the equipment and receiver

Connect the equipment into an outlet on a circuit different from that to which the receiver is

connected

Consult the dealer or an experienced radio/TV technician for help

CAUTION: To assure continued FCC compliance, any changes or modifications not expressly approved

by the grantee of this device could void the user’s authority to operate the equipment.
