TECHNOLOGY COLLEGE SARAWAK
2.7 Subject Registration
All students are required to do subject registration within one month after class
commencement.
The total credit hour that can be taken by students is dependent on Item 2.1.
Students that fail in any subject need to retake that subject until they pass it. The
retake subject status is called UM (Ulang Matapelajaran).
Students that take subject Pengukuhan must pass the course within the
stipulated duration of studies.
The new credit hour and grade point for the retake subject will be used for the
purpose of CPA calculation. The old credit hour and grade point will be omitted.
2.8 Registration Amendment
It is compulsory for students to check their Slip Pendaftaran and to do the
necessary amendment on the registration slip if there is any error within
one month after course commencement.
Types of error that can occur: wrong course code, wrong section, wrong
course status, wrong name or wrong identification card number.
Consequences of wrong registration:
• Zero “0” marks will be given to the course that is wrongly registered;
• The coursework marks for that subject will not be processed.
• If the amendment is made after the specified period of time, a penalty of
RM 300.00 will be charged to students.

2.9 Ulang Gred (UG)
Students are allowed to do UG for any subjects that they obtained Grade B- and
below for the purpose of improving their CPA.
The UG status will be recorded in the student’s registration record, result slip
and transcript.

GPA and CPA. The lowest grade will be omitted.
2.10 Tarik Diri (TD)
Students are allowed to drop or Tarik Diri (TD) any subjects that they have
registered within one month after class commencement.
TD will not affect the CPA/GPA calculation but there is a possibility that
students will need to extend their semester.
The semester extension is due to:
• The subject is a pre-requisite subject;
• The subject is not offered in every semester.
TD status will be stated in the student’s registration record, result slip and
transcript.
Bawa Hadapan (BH) status will be stated in the student’s provisional result.
TD will not be allowed if the students have less than 10 credit hours after TD.

3.0 ASSESSMENT AND GRADING
3.1 Assessment
The assessment is carried out consistently throughout the semester
following the methods that have been suggested by UTM.
The assessment for every subject may consists of:
Test 1 / Test 2 / Test 3;
Quiz;
Tutorial;
Assignment;
Case study;
Practical test;
Laboratory work;
Final exam.
The coursework marks will contribute 40 ~ 50% of the overall assessment,
whereby the final exam will contribute the remaining 50 ~ 60% of the
assessment.
Final exam is normally conducted in Week 17 ~ Week 18.

Table 3.1: Respective Grade and Mata Nilaian
The minimum passing grade is D+.
In order for students to achieve KB result, that is CPA > 2.0, students need to
obtain at least a C grade and above for every subject. Hence, students are
advised to get marks of 50% and above.
Other grades are:
1. Tarik Diri (TD) – TD grade is given to students who drop the paper.
2. Tidak Selesai (TS) – TS grade is given to students who did not sit for the final
examination due to valid reasons as approved by the university. The credit will
not be counted in the calculation of Kredit Kira, Kredit Dapat, GPA and CPA.
Students will then need to sit for Peperiksaan Khas as a replacement for the
final exam. The result of this Peperiksaan Khas will be used to recalculate the
GPA and CPA.
3. Hadir Lulus (HL) – HL grade is given to subject that is registered under Hadir
Wajib (HW) status. For HL, the credit is counted in the Kredit Dapat, but it will
not be used in calculating the GPA and CPA.
3.3 Appeal Procedure
• Students are allowed to appeal their result within two weeks after the
provisional result (keputusan tampal) is released.
• Fees amounting to RM 50.00 will be charged to students for the appeal
process.
• No appeal is allowed after Academic Committee Meeting debated the result
at UTM.
Page 11 of 16 UTM PROGRAMME HANDBOOK
TECHNOLOGY COLLEGE SARAWAK
3.4 Peperiksaan Khas
Students that are unable to sit for final exam must get a sick certificate from the
government clinic or hospital.
The sick certificate must be presented to UTM invigilator within 24 hours from
time of the final exam.
The date for the Peperiksaan Khas will be scheduled at a later date by UTM.
The overall marks for that subject will be the total marks of the coursework and
the peperiksaan khas marks.
Peperiksaan khas can also be conducted for students in their final semester
provided that they have fulfilled the following conditions:
1. Current CPA is KB;
2. The course was taken every time it was offered.
The result of the peperiksaan khas will not be counted in the GPA or CPA. If the
students pass the peperiksaan khas, “LULUS PEPERIKSAAN KHAS” will be
stated in their result slip and transcript.
3.5 Result
Students’ academic standing will be determined by the CPA as shown in
