Strategic Focus Areas Five-Year Aim Role of UW Health at The American Center

Best Work and Academic Environment UW Health is health care’s best work and academic environment. Associates will view the organization as a great place to work exemplified by trust, pride, and camaraderie. We will offer a new and unique learning environment within UW Health.

Integration UW Health functions as though it is a single enterprise. We will provide seamless care to patients no matter how organization structure evolves.

Patient and Family Experience UW Health is clearly distinguished for its culture of patient- and family-centered care and ensures excellence during every patient encounter.

Patients and families will experience: • Minimal wait times • Services pulled to them • A focus on overall wellness • Excellent customer service

Quality Distinction UW Health provides outstanding patient care and is clearly distinguished as a national quality and patient safety leader, performing in the top decile of health care systems on the majority of required and/or publicly reported quality and patient safety measures for both inpatient and outpatient care.

We will provide state of the art care that achieves Top 100 Hospital Benchmarks for like-sized Community Hospitals.

Clinical Model of Care UW Health exemplifies a state-of-the-art, organization-wide model of care that is recognized for: - Superior interdisciplinary team-based care - Excellent Clinical Outcomes - Innovation - Academic Excellence - High demand and/or market strength, both locally and regionally.

We will be recognized for our teamwork and innovation in delivering high quality, efficient care by using: • Cross functional teams • Enhanced/cross-trained roles • Standardized work • Lean principles to optimize value

Primary Care UW Health has an advanced primary care model that drives health status improvement in Wisconsin and assists in optimizing quality, financial performance and patient- and family-centered care.

We will be a leader in care coordination assuring patients have smooth transitions of care.

Population Health UW Health is a high-value (quality and service/cost) delivery system with a multi-pronged focus on local, regional and national populations and population-based research educational missions.

Patients will serve as partners in their care and be engaged in self-help and wellness/lifestyle changes. Care will be managed across the value stream instead of episodically.

Market Focus UW Health is an affiliate/partner of choice of health care organizations (physicians, hospitals, others) in Wisconsin and adjacent parts of surrounding states and national destination for care of selected conditions.

We will be the first choice for health care organizations and patients to partner with for elective surgeries offered. We will be the workshop of choice for surgeons.

Unique Operational Oversight/Governance

of the Focused Care Process Organizational

Model:

• Executive Leadership through President’s Council is a balance of

physician and non-physician management – lean and patient

experience are key responsibilities of all

– President

– Physician/Administrator Dyad – Orthopedics and Rehabilitation

– Key Operations Executives

• Job descriptions of all leadership requires lean training, experience

and ability (including physicians)

• Dedicated (outside) Lean Sensei to the Leadership Council to truly

adopt Lean – may assist with establishing training programs and

forming “maintenance lean team”

• Start small, start simple, show realistic change and improvement
