STAGES OF ART #1 Scribbling-

begins about the 13 month, uses crayons and pencils, zigzags, not distinct shapes, by 3 years distinct shapes, mostly circles.

STAGES OF ART #2 Preschematic

Stage- about 4 years, draw human figures with very large heads and legs coming out of heads, colors used are not realistic.

STAGES OF ART #3 Schematic- about 7

years, definite forms, repeat the same forms again and again, figures arranged on a baseline rather than random on the page, x-ray perspective so viewers can see inside and outside of the drawing.

STAGES OF ART #4 Realism- about 9 years, drawings are

much smaller and include much more detail.

ART V.S. CRAFT Art is an opportunity

for children to explore art media with no external product goals.

Craft activities require that children produce something that is similar or exactly the same.

Art collage. Art- painting the earth.

Craft- layered cookies.

Craft- hand wreath.
