Cotton Trade

The south was very dependant on cotton as a resource. Which made their fears of new free states higher because the tariffs may be inflated and have their slaves taken away slowing down cotton production. The cotton gin was invented by Eli Whitney in 1793 and was a machine that sped up the process of producing cotton by separating the cotton fibers and seeds.

In 1961 america was only 34 states 15 of which slave states while 19 were free. 11 of the 15 separated from the united states to become the confederacy. In slave states slavery was legal while free states it was illegal. Both kinds of state were trying to eliminate the other

What caused disunion

Slavery was the central source of escalating political tension in the 1850s. The Republican Party was determined to prevent any spread of slavery, and many Southern leaders had threatened secession if the Republican candidate

Politics

The Emancipation Proclamation was arguably the United States’ first step away from hypocrisy and toward true racial equality.

Was first fought on July 21, 1861 in Virginia near the city Manassas.

It had around 18,000 poorly trained soldiers on each side.

It was a confederate victory.

Civil war

The civil war officially started when confederate soldiers bombed fort sumter on April 12, 1861. The war ended spring April 9, 1865. The last battle was fought at Palmito Ranch, Texas, on May 13, 1865.

In the all there were over 1,00,000 solders both sides put together. Which was more than 75% of the male population at the time. Only around 350 women fought in the war. Most were disguised as men but wanted to make a difference.

Battle strats.Entrenchments, railroads, roads, and breech loaders were all new factors in war because of the time period it was held making these new “ weapons” for both sides to use against each other. Rivers were also used against each other. All of these factors were used to make the strategies on both sides of the war.

Four score and seven years ago our fathers brought forth, upon this continent, a new nation, conceived in liberty, and dedicated to the proposition that all men are created equal. Some say that the Gettysburg Address was the end to the civil war

The surrender

On April 9th 1865 the confederate general Robert E. Lee surrendered his confederate army to the union in the battle of Appomattox which was one of the last battles of the civil war. Robert E. Lee surrendered because they retreated to meet their fellow forces in North Carolina when they were intercepted by Robert E. Lee’s army. Robert E. Lee assumed that Ulysses S. Grant who was the Lieutenant General of the union force that intercepted the confederates had an army made of cavalry so he prepared for that fight when the union consisted of infantry.

Immediate Outcome Of War

The union won which is still shaping america today.Example: how our economy works, the laws, and treatment of the different races of the world.

The immediate outcomes of war weren't so good in the union around 350,000 casualties and in the confederate around 250,000 deaths in total about 600,000 deaths that's more than half a million people. There were also a shortage in about everything but cotton so everything became expensive. And many plantation owners lost or sold there plantains due to a shortage in slaves.
