Conclusions about PCB levels in fish• In general, the 2007 and 2008 PCB data are similar at most
locations, yet the data often show a decrease in concentration after the cleanup, especially when compared to historical levels.
• Three abundant fish species from Nassau Lake (YP, BB, LMB) continue to show a decrease PCB concentration since the upstream cleanup.
• In recent samples of adult LMB from Nassau Lake, the direct relationship between increasing PCB concentration and increasing length (age) is no longer evident. This may indicate decreasing bioavailability of PCB.
• At Area 28, the PCB data generally show that fish taken from that area have benefited from the cleanup.
• PCB levels in some fish from T-11A seem to show some decline when compared to historical levels. Others do not, but no increase in concentration above historical levels has been seen in recent samples.
• In any given year fish from T-11A still show PCB levels that are higher than other locations in the system.
• Monitoring of PCB levels in fish should and will continue so that future changes can be tracked.
