FROM THE EAST

Brethren,

First of all, I would like to congratulate Brother Colin Amato for his Award as the Master Mason of the Year, and also tothe Advancing Ofcers for passing their profciency on the Second Secton of the third degree ritual. Stll a lot to bedone, but I'm confdent that they will be able to be declared profcient in their respectve ofce before the setdeadline. My thanks goes to our District Inspector, our Coach and the Incoming Coach for their patence in assistngour 2018 Ofcers, and my salute goes to the Advancing Ofcers for their perseverance.

We are already on the second of the "ber" month, the start of the cold seasons. So, in connecton to this, I would likethen to announce that we are back to business atre (coat and te) during Stated Meetngs. This month of Octoberreminds me of beers and sausages. It's Octoberfest,. It's not an ofcial Holiday but we could make it a Holiday andofcial. There will be two signifcant event that we will be having, we are going to install our new Treasurer, BrotherMario Cruz. and also we are going to Award one of our 50 years Veteran in the Lodge. Several of our Brothers had alsoreached this prestgious Golden Year of their Masonic journey but opted to have their awarding simple by requestngthat their Award/Certfcate be just send to their abode.

I would like to make my Treasleboard artcle short this tme. but I like to share a moto, the moto that was inculcatedin my mind, used by an organizaton I once belong during my college days which says," Always Maintain HabitualModeraton". Whenever I'm faced with extremites, I always think about this moto. I hope this really shows the role itplays on my personality and maybe you my brother can toy this in your mind.

See you all at the Lodge.

Upon the Square.

Let me start off with what will have for the StatedMeeting Dinner. In celebration of the October, we will havebratwurst, sauerkraut and we will do our best to come up with aGerman Chocolate Cake. Like always, I have been happy with thekitchen crew who has been assisting me since the beginning of theyear. They have the enthusiasm, dedication and always eager tolearn not just the kitchen duties but craft of Masonry. I alwaysenjoyed their company and always eager to hear their opinions andconcerned. My personal thanks to Bro. Guy Benjamin for the greatmeals he provided.

I’d like to congratulate Colin Amato for being theMason of the Year. I appreciate the inspiring words you gave whenyou accepted your certificate. Your recognition of your mentorsand what you learned from the Veterans Masons were indicative ofyour absorption of their knowledge applying it to your daily lifeand became a better man in the processed. You single handedlyfixed the library and put some kind of rhythm and order where thebrethren can enjoy a very cozy atmosphere. Your contribution tothe Lodge will be enjoyed by many in the coming years. For thosewho have not seen the library, I encourage you to stop by and visit. It’s a very nice place to relax and enjoy the company of yourfellow brothers. Not to mention that we have some great books thatyou can borrow.

For the last two months, we’d been honing ourskills to be certified for the 3rd Degree ritual. I am hopeful that itwill come to fruition soon. We owe our Fellow Crafts who havebeen waiting for quite some time to be raised as Master Masons. Ifthe stars lined up properly, we should be able to raise at least twofellow craft this month. I have to thank the coaches who were verypatient making sure that we perform our duties in a dignifiedmanner.

Brethren, I normally enjoy a highly spiritedexchange of opinion but let’s not lose sight of our obligations toour brothers that at the end of the meeting; we should be able to sitdown break bread, shake hands and enjoy the spirited beverages.Let’s keep our idea within due bounds and keep in mind that eachone of us represent the lodge and our action will speak volume andrepresent the Naval 87 Lodge as a whole. Be cognizant that ouryounger brother masons are looking for guidance and veryimpressionable.

For November’s meeting, Worshipful Brother BarryHughes will serve prime rib with all the trimmings included. Hementioned a few times that he retired to cook and this one is aspecial appearance to accommodate the Joker Whiskey’s request. Our kitchen crew will see to it that the meal is worth theanticipation and will make sure that the dinner is served on time.

THE SUN IS IN THE WEST

The lodge as we all know, has beenquite busy for the last couple of months. Theprogressive line of new officers were trying to becertified in their respective offices. With the blessing ofour District Inspector, in regards to our officers, I havea great hope to be able and be certified by the monthof October. Let us cross our fingers, from the SeniorDeacon up to the Master. Let us work a bit moreharder in reference to our lines and degree work. Iknew very well it is not easy, especially for brethrenwho are still trying to make a better living. We can andwill do it. Right brethren.

A reminder to all of us advancingofficers and appointed officers, knowing and beingproficient in the rituals does not make a good leader inour Lodge. It encompasses more in governing andoperating the Lodge. It entails training and using yourresources i.e. the CMC, the Lodge Plan, retreats online courses from the Grand Lodge and otherresources to help you make mature and intelligentdecisions. Leaders are not born, they are made, it’smy personal discretion. As you progress it isimperative to equip yourself and don’t be alone, utilizethe most important asset that you will have . . .thewisdom of our past masters.

I am happy to announce that Bro.Colin Amato, has been selected by the awardscommittee as our 2017 Mason of the Year. His day ofcelebration was considered a hefty evening for theLodge. Out of his many contributions to the Lodgesince he became a Master Mason has made an impactinto most of our Lodge operation. Not to mention fromthe Trestle board to its editing, mailing and publicationin the website and e-mails, candidates coaching andalso our lodge librarian, etc. A likable person, he hasthrough his diplomatic skills have made our Lodgestability and maintain that fellowship which is integral toany Lodge. On behalf of a grateful Lodge“Congratulations” and thanks for everything. It’s welldeserved and hard-earned.

Again, and again brethren let’s notforget the Implements of Freemasonry but especiallythe “TROWEL”. I like the words being used; “amongwhom no contention should ever exist but thatnoble contention, or rather emulation, of who bestcan work and best agree.” Fraternally,Rollie Q. CaabaySenior Warden
