VALLEY LODGE & SPA – CONFERENCE GROUP INFORMATION DOCUMENT

INTRODUCTION:

Valley Lodge & Spa, an award winning four star hotel nestled in the historic Magaliesberg valley, is a glorious blend of

time-honoured traditions and modern hospitality. The professional and welcoming staff, the immense grounds

interlaced with rivers and streams, indigenous vegetation and abundant animal and bird life, make this peaceful spot

the ideal escape for any occasion.

ACCOMMODATION:

A total of 76 luxurious refurbished rooms and suites, available in three room categories. All accommodation has

either one king size bed or two single beds (twin beds) and the rooms come equipped with a dressing table,

comfortable easy chair, coffee table, an electronic safe and a flat screen TV with selected satellite channels. All rooms

are individually air-conditioned, have under-floor heating in the bathrooms, electric blankets on the beds and have a

tea/coffee station as well as a mini bar fridge, which is stocked on request. Outdoor furniture is provided on all

terraces and verandas and rooms have limited internet access.

Standard Rooms (14):

A comfortable open plan room with a small sitting area. All Standard Rooms have an en-suite bathroom with bath

and separate shower as well as a single basin. Rooms are non-thatched and situated in the garden area with a

private garden terrace.

Luxury Rooms (29):

Luxury Rooms are thatched and larger than the Standard Rooms – most are located along the river front, affording

sweeping views of the forested river. All rooms are open plan with a lounge area and en-suite bathroom. The private

veranda is also larger than that of the Standard Room terrace.

Superior Rooms (33):

Superior Rooms are also thatched and are lavishly decorated with a more modern look and feel. They have a larger

open plan lounge than the other room categories, with additional seating. The bathrooms are larger and more

lavishly appointed, with a double shower and double vanity. The veranda is also larger and furnished with outdoor

lounges overlooking the manicured gardens.

CONFERENCING:

Valley Lodge & Spa offer a stunning setting in which to host a wide range of events, covering everything from an

incentive group to a corporate conference and smaller board meetings.

Our experienced co-ordinators are able to assist in planning your event with minimum fuss and maximum efficiency –

making your event a unique experience. Our twelve venues, all with natural light, are able to accommodate

conferences, seminars, launches or corporate meetings, from five to one one hundred and fifty delegates, and can be

adapted to specific needs. All our venues offer modern facilities in a setting among lush greenery, that is sure to

inspire and motivate. Our venue also offers ample breakaway venues as well as the option of a private dining venue

for an exclusive event, specifically catering to your every need.




Our extensive grounds offer an ideal venue for outdoor team building activities and events and the unique hot air

balloon safari over the Magaliesburg mountains guarantees an unforgettable experience. Please refer to our

Teambuilding section for additional information.

Ideally located an hour’s drive from Johannesburg and Pretoria, a mere 60 kilometers from Lanseria International

Airport and 105 kilometers from OR Thambo International Airport, we are the perfect location for an event outside the

hustle and bustle of busy city life.

Conference Venues:

Henry Hartley:

Henry Hartley is one of the largest of our conference rooms and is the ideal venue for a conference, launch or

strategy session. Able to accommodate a maximum of 120 delegates cinema style. This venue has a balcony/terrace

that overlooks the river and gardens – the perfect spot for your tea breaks. The bathroom facilities are shared with

Thomas Baines, situated next to this venue and also has a small parking area, ideal for offloading conference

equipment.




Thomas Baines:

This venue is situated next to Henry Hartley and is able to accommodate a maximum of 70 delegates cinema style.

This venue also has a balcony/terrace that overlooks the river and gardens, which can be utilized for the morning and

afternoon breaks. The bathroom facilities are shared with Henry Hartley.

Sunbird:

The larger of the two venues in this area, located next to our tennis courts and comprises of the top level of this

conference block, affording sweeping views of our gardens and easy access to the Meadows, the lawn area utilised

for teambuilding. This venue has a large balcony/terrace which can be used for tea breaks as well as an informal

breakaway venue (weather dependant). The bathroom facilities are located downstairs and are shared with Oriole.




Oriole:

Oriole is situated downstairs of Sunbird on the ground floor, with easy access onto the Meadows, the lawn area

utilised for teambuilding. The covered terrace overlooking the gardens and lawn, is ideal for tea breaks and can be

used in conjunction with the lawn area for informal breakaways. The bathroom facilities are located next to the

conference venue.

Kingfisher:

The smallest of our conference venues and is perfect for small board meetings or strategy sessions. Kingfisher is

located close to the restaurant area and overlooks Maloney’s Terrace, where tea breaks are set up. The bathroom

facilities are located in close proximity to the venue.




Private Dining Venues:

Cashan:

Cashan is the most elegant of our private dining facilities and is self-contained with it’s own bar, buffet area and

bathroom facilities. This venue overlooks the swimming pool, which is ideal for pre-dinner drinks. The décor is very

stylish with three crystal chandeliers and grey silk curtains, offering understated elegance without the fuss. The

venue is also large enough to accommodate a dinner dance.




Safari Boma:

The largest of our private dining facilities, the Safari Boma is located across the river and overlooks the grasslands,

where our Hot Air Balloons launch. This venue has its own braai area, where guests can enjoy a drink around a

roaring fire whilst listening to the bubbling river alongside. It comes equipped with its own gas heaters and canvas

drop-down walls as well as a small outside terrace. The perfect venue for a braai, the Safari Boma has its own bar,

kitchen and bathroom facilities.

Outlook Boma:

The perfect private dining venue for a smaller group, this venue can accommodate a maximum of fifty guests at

round tables. The Outlook Boma has its own deck, overlooking a sheer drop to the river below, encompassing

panoramic views of the nature reserve. Another ideal venue for a braai, this venue also has its own fire pit, bar

facilities as well as bathroom facilities.

Zeederberg:

Zeederberg is the hotel’s main restaurant which can be used for exclusive use, as we are able to move other in-house

guests to an alternative venue. This venue is divided into two sections, which allows for smaller groups to enjoy a

more intimate dining experience. There is a permanent buffet area set up in Zeederberg 1 and Zeederberg 2 boasts a

working fireplace. Our wine cellar is attached to the restaurant and the bathroom facilities are within close walking

distance.




The Terrace:

The Terrace is the veranda area outside Zeederberg Restaurant and overlooks the swimming pool. This very spacious

terrace is decorated with two water features, offering the soothing trickle of bubbling water during your meal. Kindly

note that the Terrace does not sport a roof (views of the starry nights are therefore complimentary) and is thus

weather dependant. The entrance to Saunders Bar is located off the terrace and is perfectly situated to service this

venue.

Maloney’s Bar:

This is the main bar for the hotel which can also be utilised for exclusive use as we are able to move another in-house

guests to make use of Saunders Bar, should the need arise. The décor is that of a traditional pub, sporting two

working fireplaces as well as a dart board, Billiard table, pool table, foosball table as well as darts and a giant flat

screen TV. The perfect venue for an English Pub evening, an informal dinner or a whiskey tasting with a difference

noting that our Wood-fired Pizza Oven is attached to Maloney’s Terrace, which is perfect for an Italian themed dinner

under the stars.

Riverfront:

The large lawns overlooking the river is the perfect spot for a lazy lunch or a dinner under the stars. This area is also

utilised for our famous picnics or tea breaks during conferencing. Enjoy the rustle of wind through the poplar trees

whilst being soothed by the tranquil waters of the Magalies River.

Private Venue Hire:

Private Venue hire is charged when a venue is utilized for exclusive use. All of our venues are avaiblable to be pre-

booked as exclusive – rates on request. Please note, due to the layout of the Lodge, should a private venue be

required, the charge for this is inclusive of the staffing, set-up, service and breakdown. These rates are applicable for

breakaway venues, lunches or dinners.

Breakaway Venues:

Kindly note that we are able to provide a Formal Breakaway Venue (private area within a conference room) as well as

an Informal Breakaway Venues (public areas outside in the gardens) at an additional charge per day - prices on

request.

Spa:

Escape for a minute and catch your breath.

The self-indulgent Spa was designed to provide a delightful blend between old and new world, utilizing Dermalogica,

Spalicious, Six, Essie and Lilian Terry products. The unique therapies and rooms with mood lighting shifting across the

colour spectrum married with soft music will certainly ease the daily strains, as our therapists impress your body with

their high skills level.

An indoor Natatorium, Jacuzzi, steam Rooms and Saunas, Manicure and Pedicure station, relaxation area, wooden

deck, Champagne and Chardonnay bar and four dual and two single treatment rooms comprise of the facilities.

Spoil yourself with the Chefs specials, or be wicked and treat yourself to that sweet delight from our selected menus.

To avoid disappointment, please ensure that you make your reservation well in advance.

The Valley Lodge Spa now offers the most enjoyable way to enhance some must-have indulgence into your day or

take a break from your conference. Our mini menu offers a short, but sweet selection of 10 to 25 minute spa

indulgences, that will keep you polished, pampered and relaxed. Prices are available on request. Kindly note that our

group Spa rates are applicable to a minimum of 8 guests and advance bookings are essential.

Wedding Chapel:

Located along the riverside, we have a non-denominational, rustic yet elegant, thatch-roofed Chapel where we are

able to accommodate small wedding ceremonies of up to 120 guests. When the Chapel bell rings, guests are seated

on comfortable high-backed chairs whilst observing the bride walking down the red carpet to take her place on the

stage, next to her husband-to-be. On either side of the Chapel, windowed doors open onto views of the gardens and

river, allowing the subtle calls of nature to provide background music. The wood and burgundy décor allows for any

dress-up theme or allow it to simply….be. There is a parking lot in close proximity for those less mobile.

Guest Lounge:

Relax, read a book and cuddle up on the comfortable couches provided in the lounge, to the crackling fires lit daily (in

Winter) within the three fireplaces in this public area. An ideal venue to set up your group’s check-in, where

registration and arrival drinks can be served.

Swimming Pool:

Laze away the day at the Olympic sized, cold water pool. We provide pool towels and service to the pool area for

meals and drinks from 11h00 to 23h00 daily.

Dining:

The international cuisine served in the many venues tantalise the most discerning taste. Menu selections are available on request.

Breakfast:

Usually served in Zeederberg* Mondays to Fridays 07h00 – 10h00 Saturdays, Sundays & Public Holidays 07h00 – 11h00

* We can accommodate breakfast on the Terrace or around the pool, subject to availability and by prior arrangement.

Lunch: Usually served in Zeederberg* Monday to Saturday 12h00 – 15h00

Sundays & Public Holidays 12h00 – 15h00 * We can accommodate lunch on the Terrace, at the Riverfront, around the pool or in a private venue, subject to

Picnics:

Our picnics are set up on the banks of the Magalies River, under the whispering of the Poplar trees - and is therefore

weather dependent. We require a minimum 24 hours notice period, in order to accommodate this request and full pre-

payment is required prior to arrival.




Dinner:

Usually served in Zeederberg* Mondays to Thursdays 18h00 – 21h00 Fridays to Sundays 18h00 – 22h00

* We can accommodate the following variances to your dinners: - A braai at the Safari Boma or Outlook Boma, with a view of the Nature Reserve and Magalies River.

- A relaxed and boozy Pub Dinner, served in Maloney’s Bar. - Al fresco dining on Maloney’s Terrace where traditional pizza and pasta is served from the wood-fired pizza

oven.

- Celebrate with a banquet in splendid Cashan. - Dine under the stars on the Terrace.

Halaal and Kosher Meals:

Halaal Catering is provided by Saffron Kitchen who specialize in gourmet Halaal . We can also cater for Kosher

meals, which is provided by Totally Kosher. Please note that a surcharge will apply to these specialised, outsourced

meals and advance booking is essential – prices on request.

Bars:

Maloney’s Bar:

Maloney's Bar has a full size billiards table, pool table, dart board, and foosball table as well as giant television screen

for sports events and other interest.

Saunders Bar:

The intimate fire-lit Saunders Bar is available for pure relaxation and great company.

Something Special – Whiskey Tasting:

This unique experience is paired with chocolate and includes a tasting of eight whiskey’s, including 3 Scottish, 3 Irish

and 2 Single Malts. The cleansing of the palate between each tasting with a chocolate fountain, and locally made

“Belgium” chocolates. Snacks between numbers six and seven tasting. A seventeen page fact sheet on all you need

ever know about whiskey, presented by the General (Not so Irish) Manager. (No less than five guests, no more than

thirty.)

Gymnasium:

Need to burn off some of those excess calories? Our fully equipped Technogym comprises 2 treadmills, 2 elliptical

bikes, an Orbitrek machine, a pull-up bench, leg curl bench, leg extension bench, bench-press weights, free weights,

yoga mats and a yoga ball. Exercise with a view that overlooks the gardens or catch up on the latest news viewed on

the tv in air-conditioned comfort.

Nature Reserve / Bird Sanctuary with Dam:

Explore the vast grounds of Nature Reserve either in solitude or in the company of friends and discover the many

mammal species including the Burchell’s Zebra, Impala, Rock Hyrax (Dassie), Vervet Monkeys and Lesser Galago’s

(Bushbaby’s).

The river and dam is stocked with many fish species including Yellow Fish, Catfish, Carp, Large-mouthed Bass, Vlei

Kurper and Talapia.




Tennis Courts:

Valley Lodge & Spa offers you the choice of being a sports-person or a spectator – there are three tennis courts to

choose from, one of them is floodlit. Care for a challenge?

Security:

Your safety is our number one concern! We have provided 24 hour security personnel for the property, who control

the gate access as well as patrol the parking lot and gardens and grounds.

Laundry and Valet Service:

Our Housekeeping Department provides a same-day valet (ironing) and laundry services. Dry cleaning is also

possible, but this service is outsourced and requires a 24 hour wait period. Kindly note that these services are billed

per item. Price list on request.

Parking:

We provide ample, complimentary parking that is patrolled regularly by security. For the rooms that are located

further away from the facilities, a parking bay is provided near the accommodation.

ACTIVITIES:

In conjunction with the services we have to offer, there are many other activities which our guests can participate in…

Croquet:

A croquet set is available on request from the Front Office Department, which can be set up on the Meadows for a

knock around.

Volley Ball:

We also have a volley ball net available from the Front Office Department, which can be set up on the Meadows.




Boule / Pentanque:

Up for a challenge? We have a set of metal boule balls available at Reception for guests use. This game is played

outdoors, preferably on the grass area – a few bumps and hollows can add more challenge to the game.

Board Games:

Looking for something to occupy yourself with during those Summer thunderstorms? Reception have a selection of

board games available which includes Jenga, Backgammon, Trivial Pursuit, Thirty Seconds, Scrabble and cards.

Billiards and Pool:

A full sized billiards table as well as a pool table and foosball table is available for guest use in Maloney’s Bar.

Darts:

Maloney’s Bar also sports a dart board.

Fly Fishing:

For the fly fishing enthusiasts, Valley Lodge & Spa offers both riverine and dam fishing - kindly note that this is a

catch and release estate and that we do not provide this equipment for guests. Adjacent to the hotel is MBH

Adventures, that specialise in fly-fishing clinics and guided tours of the waterways – we are happy to provide their

details for an introduction into this exciting sport.

Bird Watching:

The Lodge has an abundance of bird life and is a birdwatchers' paradise with hundreds of species having been

identified and listed. Picnic hampers and private corporate lunches and dinners are often served at the bird sanctuary

or alongside the river.

Walking Trails:

Within the property grounds we have four walking trails for guest use – Steenkoppies Trail (3.5 km), Zeederberg Trail

(3.5 km), Riverine Trail (1.5 km) and the easy stroll Bird Sanctuary Trail (500 meters). Explore the grounds that have

shaped mankind during the past two million years either in complete solitude or in the company of friends. Follow

their journey on a number of well-marked trails through the vast grounds that are enhanced by the breath-taking

beauty of the stark scenery and the many animal species that live here.




Photography:

With the abundance of animal and bird life there is always an opportunity to catch that one-in-a-million shot. Be

patient and the natural abundance will reward you.

Business Services:

Photocopying (colour or black and white), faxing, emailing and internet connection is available as an additional service

through our Front Office Department – prices on request.

Boating:

Boats and canoes are available for those that prefer rowing on the river or the bird sanctuary dam. Kindly note that

this service is not supervised and will be at your own risk.

DIRECTIONS:

From the Airport / East Rand:

1) Upon exiting the airport, keep to the right, following the signs for the R24/ Johannesburg (this road joins the

highway). 2) Continue straight along the R24 (N3) / Johannesburg

3) Approximately 9 km after leaving the airport, move to the centre lane, which merges with the N3 highway. 4) Follow the signs for the N3 / N1 / Pretoria. Take the fork to the right.

5) Immediately after this fork, turn left onto the interchange and continue following the N3 / N1 / Pretoria signs.

6) Proceed past all the Sandton and Randburg off-ramps. 7) From here follow points 2 to 11 below: From Johannesburg and Gauteng.

From Johannesburg / Gauteng:

1) Head west along N1 (concrete ring highway) just north of Johannesburg. 2) Exit from N1 at 14th Avenue off-ramp.

3) Turn right under highway, then right again at second set of traffic lights. You are now on the M47 to Krugersdorp

/ Tarlton (you will pass Hillfox Power Centre on your right). 4) Proceed along the M47 through ten sets of traffic lights. After approximately 1 5km you will reach a four way

intersection distinguished by a Sasol Petrol Station on the opposite left hand side of the intersection. (Muldersdrift Laerskool is just before this intersection on the left-hand side)

5) Proceed straight across.

6) Continue along the M47, which now becomes the N14 (to Ventersdorp) for approximately 10.5 km, when you will reach a T-junction (opposite and to the right is a Zenex (now Engen) Petrol Station).

7) Turn right onto the R563 and continue straight, signposted to Hekpoort. 8) Continue on this road for approximately 8.5 km after which you will meet the signboard indicating R24 to

Magaliesburg on the left (this road also identified by the Maropeng sign, turning to the same direction).

9) Turn left onto this road to Magaliesburg, continuing for 12 km before reaching an intersection, which the R24, indicating Magaliesburg to the right. Turn right and continue straight down the hill for 5.4 km into the village of

Magaliesburg. 10) Cross over the railway line (Wimpy is to your left) and turn right in the centre of the Village at the BP Garage.

11) After approximately 500 m turn right onto the Valley Lodge Road and continue to the Hotel.

From Pretoria:

1) Get onto the R28, which is the highway from Pretoria to Krugersdorp. 2) Proceed for approximately 60 km where you will reach a four way intersection, distinguished by a Sasol Petrol

Station on the opposite, right hand side. 3) Turn right onto N14 to Tarlton / Ventersdorp.

4) From here follow points 2 to 11 above: From Johannesburg and Gauteng.
