Someter, meter en vereda.Literalmente: traer al ta-lón. Un perro domesticado

¿Qué mosca te ha pica-do? "To bite" además de"morder" significa "pi-car" (insectos, serpientes,peces), pero para las avis-pas y abejas se usa "to sting/ stong/ stung ".

Esto está empezando a notener gracia ("joke": chis-te). Normalmente se usa

"to wear a bit thin" parahablar de una tela que sedesgasta y se hace más fina.

"To be sick of":

Estar harto ("sick": conganas de vomitar). Hayuna versión más fuerte enla página 30: "to be fed up to the back teeth" (lit.: lle-no de comida hasta lasmuelas, o sea, hartísimo).

UNA PALABRA PROBLEMATICA:

"RIGHT"

1. GENERALIDADES

Hay ciertas palabras inglesas que son problemáticas o porquela misma forma puede tener varias funciones gramaticales oporque tienen varios significados. La palabra "right" puede fun-cionar como adjetivo, sustantivo, adverbio y verbo.

Como adjetivo tiene dos significados muy distintos:

a) Contrario de "wrong" mal/ equivocado

Se puede traducir de muchísimas maneras: (moralmente) bueno,bien, justo, correcto, acertado, exacto, verdadero, fundado,oportuno, apropiado, conveniente, adecuado, que hace falta,

Repasa estas notas.

decente, bien física o mentalmente, en orden, completo, porejemplo:

The right answer: la respuesta acertada.The right time: la hora correcta.The right word: la palabra exacta.

Expresiones relacionadas con estos significados son: All right: bien (de salud, etc.). All right!/ right!: ¡bueno!, ¡bien!, de acuerdo, vale.Right?: ¿de acuerdo?, ¿vale?, ¿verdad?Its's/ That's all right : no importa.To be right: tener razón.To be right to: hacer bien en.To put right: arreglar.To get right: entender bien.

b) Contrario de "left": iquierda

The right leg: la pierna derecha.Right: de derecha, derechista (política).

Como sustantivo significa:

Bien, justicia.Right and wrong: el bien y el mal.To turn to the right: la derecha.The right: derecha (política).

Como adverbio significa:

You did right: bien, como es debido, correctamente.Turn right at the traffic lights: a la derecha.Right on the nose: de lleno, completamente.Right in the middle: exactamente, justo.Right after work: inmediatamente, justo.Go right home: directamente, derecho.You heard right: correctamente.

All right:

She heard us all right: perfectamente.

It's her all right: seguro, sin duda.

A veces la palabra "right" en su uso adverbial tiene un carácterenfático. En ese caso a veces no se traduce:

He fell right into the river: Se cayó al río.

Como verbo significa:

Enderezar(se), hacer justicia a una persona, corregir, rectificar.
