General FAQs How much homework will I have? At least one half to one hour per IB Prep class per day = 2‐4 hours.
What does IB cost? The TDSB currently offers IB free of charge to qualified students.
What if I have difficulty in a subject? All teachers have times for extra help. If you need more, there are subject clubs, STYLE after school help, and Peer Tutoring after school, for up to 2 subjects.
Can I apply for IB when I am in Grade 10 for Grade 11?
No, unless you are already in IB at another school and/or Grade 11 course prerequisites are met.
General FAQs What are the criteria for advancing into Years 1 and 2 from IB Prep?
Minimum of 70% in IB Prep Courses. Do I have to take French? Oui. Bien sûr! What if I want to transfer to the Academic program? You may change pathways at VP by choosing Academic or Open courses for the following year during the yearly registration period in February. Mid‐year changes are not usually possible. School/program transfers are at the discretion of the receiving school.
Is IB Semestered? Only IB Preparatory (9‐10)is fully semestered. IB (11‐12) is full year.
FAQs for Applicants to Grade 9 What is the Math test like? A GAUSS contest. Try the samples on the CEMC website. Ours is based on both Gr. 7 and Gr 8 tests.
What are the rules for the test? You will have one hour to complete it, you may use a calculator, and you are not expected to show your work – it is multiple choice. You may use extra paper supplied for calculations.
When is the Math test and how do I sign up? Tuesday Nov. 29 at 8:30 am and 3:00 pm. Online registration will be on our website tomorrow.
NOTE: We cannot accommodate parents or guardians in our building or parking areas during the Math test. Please make appropriate travel arrangements.
FAQs for Applicants to Grade 9 When will I know if I am invited for an interview? We will send emails to all invitees on or before Dec 2nd. Please monitor the email address which you have provided to us, including junk and spam inboxes.
What are the criteria for being invited to interview? You must achieve: 70% or higher on the Math test (level 3 and up) have subject averages of 80% or higher on Gr 7 report cards and ‘progressing well or very well’ on Gr 8 progress report
Level 3‐4 on the essay based on Gr 7/8 Writing expectations.
What’s the essay about? You, and how you are a good candidate for IB. Go to the IBO website and read the Learner Profile, choose 3‐4 attributes, then write about your personal qualities using your activities and achievements as evidence.
Grade 9 IB Applications Register online at www.victoriaparkci.ca for the Grade 9 Entrance Math Test on Nov. 29, 2016, either for 8:30 or 3:00.
Arrive for the Math Test by either 8:10 am or 2:40 pm at the latest. Bring: your Application Essay; Gr 7 final and Gr 8 progress report card copies; a non‐graphing calculator; non‐mechanical pencils; erasers.Note: Application essays and report card copies will not be returned.
Successful applicants will be contacted by email by Dec 2nd. If contacted, call our Guidance office to arrange a family interview between Dec. 5, 2016 and Jan. 27, 2017.
