View this email as a webpage District 5 Residents and Friends, As our city, state, and country, continues to survive and struggle with a new reality during this pandemic and civil unrest, we continue to hear the concerns of our residents to protect public health and promote peace. Please read some important reports, interview about the Census, and invitation to community budget meetings. First Year in Office Accomplishments It has been an honor to serve you all during the last 12 months, since our inauguration on June 6th, 2019. Parks & Recreation: West Plaza: (43rd Ave & Maryland Ave) New playground Starlight: (78th Ave & Osborn Rd.) Automated new LED field lights La Pradera: (39th Ave & Glendale Ave) New parking lot Mariposa: (31st Ave & Morten Ave) New tennis cranks & restroom renovation Holiday: (67th Ave & Campbell Rd) Renovations (sports equipment, etc) Solano: (15th Ave & Montebello Ave) Movies in the Park & Programs. Street Transportation: Paving and maintaining city streets: 57 miles of pavement treatments, such as mill and overlays and crack sealing. Public Works: Solid Waste Clean-Up and Illegal Dumping Efforts: Resolved approx. 20,500 cases addressing a variety of concerns including illegal dumping & overloaded containers. Youth & Education: The Principal for a Day program: 20 schools in District 5 participated, and Vice Mayor Guardado participated at Sheely Farms Elementary School. Housing: Housing for Veterans expanded in District 5 by the allocation of vouchers in a new affordable housing development. Library: Immigration Clinics - Partnered with Friendly House (monthly from September 2019 through February 2020) Neighborhood Services: 19 North Cleanup: (Feb. 28, 2020). NSD staff helped organize and coordinate the 19 North clean up event with 300 + volunteers. Human Services: Head Start Birth to Five Collaboration with the Arizona Department of Child Safety matched children in foster care with a Head Start slot near their

foster home. Senior Utility Assistance Recertification Program: Over 400 Senior Centerparticipants receive Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP)funding each year.

Environmental Programs:

Phoenix Food Day & Healthfest was held at Cartwright Community Garden inOctober 2019.

Office of Arts & Culture:

Public Art Bus Shelter “In Between,” public art at the southwest corner of19th Avenue and Maryland.

Fire:

Baby Shots immunization clinic on Feb. 8th, 2020 at the Pendergast FamilyHealth Center

Police:

Body Worn Cameras were assigned to all patrol squads, the SpecialAssignments Unit, Crisis Intervention Team, Community Response Squad andMotors.911 call takers and dispatchers have received training in crisis intervention,and request assistance from the Crisis Response Network.In 2019, violent crime decreased by 5% and property crime decreased by 3%.

Planning & Development:

27th Ave Corridor: 1) Increase curb appeal with beautification 2) Create a vibrantand connected commercial corridor, & 3) Communicate and advocate for highquality development and investment.

Public Transit:

Bus stop shelters: 22 improvements and/or installations.

Water Services:

Water storage: Approx. 53,000 acre-feet of river water, & overall 433,000acre-feet in underground aquifers, which represents approx. 3.5 years ofsupply.

City of Phoenix Canvassing Efforts for the U.S. Census

Last month, we joined our Census outreach team to remind our residents along

27th Ave to self-respond to the questionnaire. Our Census team explained to usthe importance of responding and how it affects city services we rely on everyday. Check PHX TV Neighborhood News episodes:
