There had been many stories of people being miraculously healed in our communities. We mostly hear about them, if not having personally encountered them, from our families and friends or in Church, school or offices. These miracles always leave a sense of awe and mystery - a mark of the powerful hand of God. Today, we will look at how Naaman, a great commander of Syria and a leper, was healed from his infirmity.

Healing isn’t about the Receiver

“Naaman, commander of the army of the king of Syria, was a great man with his master and in high favor, because by him the Lord had given victory to Syria. He was a mighty man of valor, but he was a leper.”

- 2 Kings 5:1, ESV

Many say good things happen to good people, but this isn’t always the case. We read in the Bible the story of Naaman, a great commander highly regarded by his fellowmen and feared by other nations. But he was also a leper who had no hope for a cure - an irony for a man who had it all and gave it all to uphold honor for his king and country. Despite of what Naaman has done in the past - good or bad, healing was extended to hikkkm.__________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________

Healing Demands Faith

“Are not Abana and Pharpar, the rivers of Damascus, better than all the waters of Israel? Could I not wash in them and be clean?” So he turned and went away in a rage.” -2 Kings 5:12, ESVAnd Jesus said to him, “Go your way; your faith has made you well.” And immediately he recovered his sight and followed him on the way.

-Mark 10:52, ESV

Instances of miracles and healing in the Bible such as what happened to Naaman seems impossible. He has suffered severely from leprosy, and all that was required of him was to wash in a river to be healed. Surely leprosy cannot be cured by the simple act of washing in the river. But here, we will see that even with the impossibility of being cured from this disease, all that was required of Nehemiah was to trust Elisha’s instruction and receive healing by faith. ______________________________________________________________________________________________________

Healing is all about the Healer

“And there were many lepers in Israel in the time of the prophet Elisha, and none of them was cleansed, but only Naaman the Syrian” -Luke 4:27, ESV

In 2 Kings, Elisha became an instrument of healing to Naaman. Hundreds of years after, a greater Elisha walked the earth in the person of Jesus Christ and He refers to Naaman’s healing telling the people that healing is made available not just to the seemingly good and religious but to everyone. He also made a way for us to be reconciled with God through his death and resurrection. Because of Christ’s finished work on the Cross, we can receive healing not just physically but even spiritually. The Bible tells us that Jesus was pierced for our transgressions, He was

WORD

“Naaman, commander of the army of the king of Syria, was a great man with his master and in high favor, because by him the Lord had given victory to Syria. He was a mighty man of valor, but he was a leper… Elisha sent a messenger to him, saying, “Go and wash in the Jordan seven times, and your flesh shall be restored, and you shall be clean.” But Naaman was angry and went away, saying, “Behold, I thought that he would surely come out to me and stand and call upon the name of the Lord his God, and wave his hand over the place and cure the leper. Are not Abana and Pharpar, the rivers of Damascus, better than all the waters of Israel? Could I not wash in them and be clean?” So he turned and went away in a rage. But his servants came near and said to him, “My father, it is a great word the prophet has spoken to you; will you not do it? Has he actually said to you, ‘Wash, and be clean’?” So he went down and dipped himself seven times in the Jordan, according to the word of the man of God, and his flesh was restored like the flesh of a little child, and he was clean.” - 2 Kings 5:1, 10-14 ESV

crushed for our iniquities , and by his wounds we are healed. Indeed, healing is all about the Healer and placing our faith in His finished work.
