Welcome to Arkansas CinderellaWe would like to welcome you to the 2018 Arkansas Cinderella State Pageant! Hopefully, this will be a wonderful experience that you won’t soon forget! We are pleased to return to our beautiful host city of Hot Springs. Our competitions this year will be held at two locations. Friday, April 27th, registration, an orientation with the judges, and the “Bling Out Your Denim” Western Banquet/Party will be held at the Comfort Suites Hotel located at 320 Nash Street, Hot Springs, AR, 71913. You are not required to stay overnight; however we do encourage it, as there will be no dressing areas available before the party or interview competitions. Only a public restroom will be available to the contestants, so having a room to dress will be beneficial.

If you will be unable attend Friday night’s events, we will have a late registration where you will be able to pick up your registration packet and turn in your photogenic pictures and talent music, Saturday morning at the Comfort Suites, from 8:00-8:30 am. However, due to limited staff, you MUST have your balance paid in full prior to your arrival in order to be eligible to utilize the late registration. NO EXCEPTIONS!

Photogenic judging will begin following late registration, so all photogenic pictures must be turned in by 8:30 am. Baby Playtime will begin at 9:00 am for the 0-35 month age divisions, also at the Comfort Suites Hotel, with Interviews immediately following at 9:30 am for the 3-29 age divisions.

The hotel’s checkout time is 11:00 am. Our Casual Wear, Party Wear, Tot Personality, Talent, and Grand Finals will be held Saturday afternoon at the Hot Springs Middle School Auditorium located just a few miles from the hotel at 701 Main Street, Hot Springs, AR 71913. The dressing rooms will not be open for contestants until 12:00, noon, and competition will begin promptly at 1:00 p.m. The meeting room at the hotel will be available for your convenience following interviews for hair and makeup prior to the auditorium being open.

There are two different Fee Worksheets in your paperwork packet; one for the 0-35 month divisions and one for the 3-29 divisions. Please be sure that you complete the correct worksheet for your age division, as they have different fees and discounts.

Our program book will feature photos of the contestants. You will need to email your photo for the program book to us at [email protected]. Photos MUST be emailed, no exceptions! You may use any photo you choose, and it does not have to be the same photo as your photogenic picture. However, black and white head shots work best.

Your Intent Form with payment information, Entry Form, Fee Worksheet, Release Form, picture for the program book, any ads sold, and the $100 non-refundable deposit must be sent to Arkansas Cinderella by the April 6th, 2018 deadline. Deposits and forms not received by the registration deadline are subject to a $50 late fee. Due to printing deadlines, any photos or ads not submitted by this date may NOT appear in the program book. Forms, photos and ads should be emailed to us at [email protected].

Payments can be made by check or money order. PayPal will also be accepted, but a 3% surcharge will be applied. Our PayPal address is [email protected]. Credit / Debit cards will also be accepted with a 3% surcharge. Your balance due can be paid at registration or any time prior to the pageant. You may mail forms and deposits to: Arkansas Cinderella, PO Box 86, Thornton, AR 71766. Due to slow mail service in our area, please send documents via Priority Mail to ensure they arrive by the deadline and so that any checks sent can be tracked in the event that the forms are lost in the mail.

We will have official Arkansas Cinderella t-shirts for purchase again this year. We will only order a few extras, so to insure that you receive a shirt in the correct size, you must mark the quantity and size on your Fee Worksheet and submit by the April 6th deadline.

Any updates, reminders, or changes will be posted via social media. Please like our Facebook page, Arkansas Cinderella Scholarship Pageant, or join our Facebook Group, Arkansas Cinderella Pageant, so that you will not miss any important information.

Again, thank you all for supporting Arkansas Cinderella! We are proud to have you all as part of our Cinderella Family!

The pageant offers an outlet for recognition and achievement for beautiful and talented young ladies with ambition; however, the most important aspect of the pageant is not the winning of a crown or trophy, but rather the rewards of participation and the opportunity to make lifelong friendships with other aspiring young ladies from across the state. Please read the handbook in its entirety so that you will be familiar with all rules, regulations, and procedures.

Registration/Payment InfoRESIDENCY REQUIREMENTS: You must be a resident of the State of Arkansas in order to compete in this event.

In order to reserve your place in the State pageant you must return the Statement of Intent/Deposit form, Entry Forms, Fee Worksheet, and Release, along with your $100.00 deposit by the April 6th deadline. All forms must be type written or neatly printed to insure that the correct information is listed on the Emcee and Judges sheets. Any forms not received by the registration deadline may be subject to a $50 late fee. Deposits are non-refundable within two week of the pageant, unless otherwise approved by the directors.

Sponsors, Ads, and DiscountsSPONSORSHIP PROCEDURES: You may secure sponsors to help pay your fees at the State Pageant. There is a place on the Entry Form to list sponsors. If more room is needed, please attach a separate list to the Entry Form. A receipt for your sponsors can be provided upon request. Please be sure to request the receipt in advance. We will be unable to create a receipt during the pageant due to time constraints.

Referrals WILL NOT count for contestants that have competed in any Arkansas Cinderella Preliminary or state pageant in the past 3 years.

ADVERTISING: In the past the Arkansas Cinderella Pageant has tried to help any young lady who wishes to attend the state pageant find ways to help pay her fees. personalized with the participants name, age division and best wishes. We have found the ideas are limitless and may be handmade or store bought. Remember, it is not the expense of the gifts that is important it is the thought behind the gift that really makes it meaningful. You will need to bring one gift to turn in at registration to be judged by the Reigning Queens. Gift bags will be available at this time to distribute the gifts to the other contestants. The Best Souvenir Gift will be awarded at the party Friday night. If you do not attend the party, but still wish to hand out souvenir gifts, you may do so in the dressing area during the competition, however you will not be considered for the best souvenir gift award.

NO FOOD ALLOWED IN AUDITORIUM OR DRESSING ROOM!!! Water ONLY! The Interview/Playtime room at the hotel will be available for dressing until the auditorium is open. All pageant events have been scheduled so that the participant and chaperone will have ample time to get to and from each activity. Participants must report no later than 15 minutes prior to the beginning of each competition. After your group completes in a phase of competition, you should immediately report to the dressing area to begin changing for the next phase of competition. We understand that you may wish to watch contestants in other groups. However, we will stick to the schedule as closely as possible and we will not delay competition to wait on a contestant. If your contestant misses their turn, they will be placed at the end of your division. If you miss competing with your age division in any phase of competition, that competition cannot be made up and you will be ineligible to receive the overall title.

CINDERELLA BABY GROUPS – The Infant, Baby, and Tiny Tot groups will compete in Baby Playtime, Casual Wear, Party Wear, and Photogenic. In the Baby Playtime competition, the contestants and chaperone will go into a room with the judges to be observed “playing” up close. Please bring a toy or book to occupy the babies during this competition. The Baby Personality title will be decided by a combination of this competition and their overall onstage personality. Contestants will compete onstage in Casual Wear and Party Wear. Chaperones will introduce the babies onstage during the Casual Wear competition, stating their name, age and hometown. Photogenic will be judged prior to Playtime from the photos submitted at registration, not from the program book.

CINDERELLA GRILS (TOT-WOMAN)- All participants will appear in Interview (3-29 yrs.), Party Wear, Casual Wear, Tot Personality (3-6 yrs.), Talent (7-29 yrs.), Photogenic (0-29 yrs.). Girls ages 3-12 will go into interview in small groups of 3 or more. Teen and Woman contestants 13-29 will compete in a one on one interview with the judges. All participants (3-29 yrs.) will introduce themselves at the microphone during their casual wear presentation stating their name, age and hometown. The Teen and Woman contestants may add their school grade, clubs or sports, major, etc. (example: As a sophomore at Lake Hamilton High School, I enjoy spending Friday nights cheering on our Wolves as a member of the Cheerleading Squad and serving as class president. From Hot Springs, AR, I am 15 year old Jennifer Taylor). Just be sure to make it as brief as possible so that you can finish your modeling in the time allotted. The judges will not be looking for a “miniature adult” in the children’s division. Likewise, the judges will not be looking for a “college age” prototype in the teen division. Cinderella is looking for natural, wholesome, age appropriate representatives to carry the official Cinderella titles. . All participants compete on an equal basis and the Judges will not know the placement or titles of the participants at previous preliminaries or State Competitions. Tot Personality (3-6 yrs), will be brief onstage interview conducted by the emcee, consisting of simple questions from their entry form. Tots should wear a cute casual dress for this competition.

TALENT: Your music must be recorded in stereo on a “new” (never used) high quality CD. Only one (1) talent selection should be recorded on the CD. Two (2) copies of the CD should be made; (1) original CD for the performance; (2) backup CD to be held in reserve in case something happens to the original and for practice. . DO NOT EMAIL your talent music!!! The signal in the auditorium will not allow for a speedy download and we will not have time to wait for the music. Likewise, we will not be able to play music from your phone. It MUST be on a CD, FLASH DRIVE OR SD CARD! A manual “stop” for dialogue, etc. will not be allowed. However, a stop for dialogue may be timed to a continuous running CD. Music must be edited to stop at the end of presentation. The CD case label must be clearly marked with instructions if there is a pause in the music or the song has a “false ending”. CD’s must be made prior to the pageant; there are no facilities for recording on location. You will be expected to turn in (1) one copy of your talent music at registration. SPECIAL NOTE: TALENT PRESENTATION MUST NOT EXCEED 2:30 MINUTES IN LENGTH. PLEASE KEEP THEM TO AN AVERAGE OF 2:00 MINUTES. Talents going over the allowed time limit will automatically be disqualified from receiving either the Overall Title or any Talent award. All talent presentations which include a singing or speaking part MUST USE A MICROPHONE. The state pageant will provide microphones, but we cannot promise cordless or lapel mics. All props must be small enough to be carried onto the stage by no more than (2) two people. Individual scenery will not be allowed; however, a “working prop” may be used if essential to the performance. Any equipment or instruments (pianos, etc) to be used will be the sole responsibility of the contestant. Please call as this may vary from venue to venue. Due to building regulations, the use of fire or knives is strictly prohibited. Acrobatic mats are limited to one (1) regulation size mat. The pageant does not assume any responsibility for loss or damage to props during the event. If a prop is used, the chaperone or talent coach must accompany the participant backstage before the talent act to supervise the placement of the prop. Talent presentations or costumes of a suggestive nature will mean automatic disqualification from competition. Discretion should be used in selecting material that is too mature or “adult” for the participant’s age division. Garment removal is not advisable, but if done, please keep it in good taste. Costumes with bare midriffs or backs are acceptable if they are in good taste. Heavier stage makeup is also allowed, as well as heavily beaded or stoned costumes.

PHOTOGENIC GIRL: Each participant will be required to enter (1) one photo for the Photogenic competition. It should be no larger than 8x10 and may be black and white or color. On the back of the photo, include the participant’s name, age, and age division. This information must be printed or placed on a label. Pictures will be returned and will be available in the Hotel Meeting room after Interview. They must be picked up before leaving the hotel. It is the chaperon’s responsibility to collect pictures. The directors will not be responsible for photos left at the venue. The Photogenic Girl division is an important part of the Cinderella Pageant. It was designed to give recognition to those young ladies with special photogenic qualities and creativity and has become a valuable asset to those participants seeking careers in the modeling industry. The “Photogenic Girl” in each age division will be selected on the following basis: photogenic beauty, captured personality or mood, composition, and technical quality of the photograph. Photos may not include trophies, crowns, or banners won at a previous pageant. Head shots are usually best.

PAGEANT STANDARDS: FALSE HAIR AND EYELASHES ARE NOT ALLOWED IN THE CINDERELLA PAGEANT’S Children’s age division (Infant-Miss), unless it is the result of a medical necessity (i.e. illness, chemotherapy, etc.). This does not apply to talent presentation. Cosmetic dentistry is permissible. The use of cosmetics is allowed in Cinderella Girl age brackets; however, makeup must be appropriate for the participant’s age category. Heavier makeup may be worn under strong stage lights. NOTE: While Tots and Mini Misses may wear appropriate makeup during stage competition, Tots MAY NOT wear makeup during interview competition with judges, and Mini Misses are only allowed very minimal makeup during interview. This rule will be discussed with the Judges and will be subject to their discretion. A standard of “modesty” must be maintained throughout the pageant in all competition clothes. The Baby, Infant, and Tiny Tot contestants are not permitted to wear makeup at any time.

SELECTING YOUR WARDROBE: The Cinderella Pageant was not designed to be a “clothes show”, and your pageant wardrobe should be kept simple and appropriate for your age group. The Judges will be judging the participant and NOT their wardrobe. Your competition wardrobe should consist of (1) presentation Party Dress/Evening Gown to be worn during Party Wear/Evening Gown competition. Ages 0-12 yrs. must wear a short, knee length, mid-calf length natural style dress. Ages 13-29 yrs., should wear a full length formal gown. You should have (1) presentation casual wear outfit (may include slacks, shorts, casual dresses, etc.) NO SWIMSUITS OR COSTUMES ARE PERMITTED. Props such as tennis rackets, sunglasses, hats, purses, etc. are NOT allowed during Cinderella modeling competition. Girls ages 3-26 will also need an interview dress or suit that should be tailored and simple. Ankle length dresses, dressy shorts or miniskirts are

not acceptable for party wear or interview competition. Girls 3-6 will also need an additional dress for Tot Personality. Cute casual dresses that are fun and show personality are best. Baby groups should have an additional casual outfit for Playtime. NO PAGEANT WEAR IN ANY GROUP. THIS IS NOT A GLIZ PAGEANT! Contact us if you need clothing examples.

Judging JUDGING: The adjudication at an official Cinderella State Pageant is always of the highest, unexcelled quality with an experienced panel of judges using a ranking and consultation system. The judges’ decision is always final and no posting of ballots or ranking is permitted. DO NOT ASK THE JUDGES FOR COMMENTS AFTER THE PAGEANT AS THEY ARE NOT ALLOWED TO GIVE PERSONAL CRITIQUES. Personal critiques will be available to contestants planning to attend the International Finals at the director’s discretion following the pageant. Please email us at [email protected] to request comments.

CINDERELLA BEAUTY JUDGING CRITERIA: The “Cinderella Beauty” and her alternates are selected from their ranking in interview, party dress/evening gown, and casual wear only. Cinderella is more than a “beauty” pageant and the judges will be asked to consider the “total contestant” and not just the physical appearance. Inner beauty, grooming, poise, stage presence and self-confidence are an important part of the criteria to select the “Cinderella Beauty” winners. There will be a “Cinderella Beauty” winner in each age group.

CINDERELLA PERSONALITY/TOT PERSONALITY/TALENT JUDGING CRITERIA: Baby Personality will be judged during the Baby Playtime competition as well as overall onstage personality during the other competitions. Tot Personality for the 3-6 yr. division is judged during the on stage interview, or Tot Personality, competition. The judges will not be looking for correct or necessarily intelligent answers during this competition; or for only funny or comical answers. Speaking well and confidence is just as important. Talent will be judged for ages 7-29 during the talent portion. While skill in your craft is important, the entertainment value of the act is the most important aspect in Cinderella Talent.

PHOTOGENIC JUDGING: Photogenic judging will take place before competition begins. Only the photos submitted at registration will be judged and the judges will not see the photos submitted for the program book.

DOUBLE CROWNING: Cinderella does NOT double crown under any circumstances. A contestant may receive an alternate award in addition to a Crown Title, but will NOT be eligible to receive two Crown Titles. In addition, the Overall Winner will NOT be eligible to receive ANY other awards since she is deemed to be the overall highest ranking contestant in that age group throughout all phases of competition. This does not include side awards. Also, if there are more Crown Titles in an age group than contestants, the double crown rule still applies, and the awards will be given out accordingly.

ModelingMODELING PROCEDURE: The official CINDERELLA RUNWAY MODELING MUSIC will be used at the state finals for all divisions. The music is timed so that each participant has the same amount of time on stage. The music contains bells and chimes that signal the start, stops, turns and finish of the modeling presentation. “Collective Judging” segment with entrance music, timed quarter turns and exit music will be used for the group judging portion. Below is a stage diagram showing the modeling formation. Simple turns are made on the 2nd and 4th X. In casual wear, the contestants will introduce themselves on the 2nd X instead of turning. Cinderella has a “straight” style of modeling with no routines, hands on hips, figure 8’s, hand gestures, etc. We will have the stage available for the girls to walk with the music once or twice on Saturday prior to Casual Wear. You may also go to YouTube and search for Cinderella Modeling and there are “how to” video’s showing both the casual wear and party wear modeling with music.

Awards and ExpectationsPRIZES AND SCHOLARSHIPS: Naturally the greatest prize of all at the state finals are the titles and the honor and recognition that goes with them, as well as the right to represent the state of Arkansas at the fabulous International Finals to be held in July in Dallas. All educational saving bonds are issued at the next state pageant if the winner has completed all their obligations of the pageant year. You must attend the International Finals in Dallas, make appearances throughout the year and return to the 2019 State Pageant to give up your title in order to receive your savings bonds. Robes must be returned in good condition, cleaned and ready for the new winners. Any business sponsored prizes are donated in an effort to help the overall winners succeed at the next level of competition. Overall winners who do not attend the International Finals in Dallas will forfeit these prizes.

WHAT IS EXPECTED OF A WINNER: Winners of an official Cinderella title are to conduct themselves with the dignity of the important title they hold. Overall winners may not compete in any other beauty pageant with a “next level” of competition without the permission of the state director. The State Overall winners are expected to compete at the International Finals in Dallas. Should an Overall winner choose not to go on to compete at the next level, they will forfeit their educational bond, as well as any and all business sponsored prizes. We will have a short meeting after the crowning with all newly crowned Overall Winners to discuss the expectations for the year, appoint a Royalty Coordinator from the queen’s mothers/guardian and sign a contract acknowledging these expectations.

CONDUCT: At all official Cinderella Pageants the emphasis is placed on the participant and adults displaying good manners and grooming, listening to and acknowledging instructions, adjusting to conditions, maintaining discipline and dependability, and above all, displaying excellent sportsmanship at all times. Any participant, parent, coach, guest or coordinator who conducts themselves in an unsportsmanlike manner before, during or after an official Cinderella Pageant will be subject to immediate dismissal from the pageant system. Such conduct on the part of the participant will mean automatic forfeiture of all awards and NO REFUND WILL BE GIVEN. Smoking by participants is strictly prohibited.

General InformationFINAL STAGING: The state finals are open to family and friends for a nominal fee of $10 for adults and $5 for children under the age of 12. This covers all phases of competition and we hope you will encourage them to attend and cheer on your child. Nothing is more rewarding than having family and friends there to experience this with you. Ample dressing facilities will be provided for participants and we ask that ONLY ONE PERSON WILL BE ALLOWED IN THE DRESSING ROOM TO ASSIST EACH PARTICIPANT.

CINDERELLA REGISRATION/INSURANCE PROGRAM: All official participants and staff members must be covered by the Cinderella Pageant System Registration & Insurance program. Cinderella insurance is 24 hours a day coverage during the pageant for accidents (illness not included). Benefits include: $5000 accidental death and dismemberment and $1000 blanket accident medical expense (for accidents only). The aggregate limit with respect to any single accident is $25,000.

Not covered: war, suicide and act of armed forces. The cost for this insurance for both the contestant and the chaperone is included in the Entry Fee.

LIMITATIONS OF RESPONSIBILITY: The pageant will NOT ASSUME RESPONSIBILITY for lost articles or personal property and is NOT responsible for accidents, mishaps, or personal care of the participant, chaperone or guest. This is the responsibility of the chaperone. Although the pageant’s official insurance coverage does cover medical expenses for accidents (NOT ILLNESS) during the pageant, THE PAGEANT DOES NOT ASSUME ANY LIABILTY OR RESPONSIBILTY BEYOND THE LIMITATIONS OF THE CINDERELLA REGRISTRATION & INSURANCE PROGRAM. Each participant’s parent or guardian MUST sign the official liability release form which is included on the state entry form.

OFFICIAL PHOTOGRAPHER: At the Cinderella State Finals only members of the press and the state pageant’s own official photographer may take photos and videos of any participant during the actual competition. Photo Packages will be available for purchase at Registration. Group photos will be taken after the Grand Finals to be used in the state’s publications, social media, web site and publicity. Subsequently, candid shots of the contestants will be taken throughout the pageant for our web site and Social Media pages. A Photo Waiver must be signed by each contestant in order to appear on these sites. Again, NO PHOTOGRAPHY will be allowed in the auditorium during competition.
