Letter From Your BoardLetter From Your BoardLetter From Your BoardLetter From Your Board
I n June the Board held a special
election regarding changing the
rule that governs the number of
affirmative votes needed to amend
our CC&Rs. The voting deadline is
now past, and the vast
majority voted to amend
the rule. Going forward
“51% of those that
vote”, will determine
the outcome of an
election (given sufficient
ballots are returned).
We appreciate all of you who took a
moment to consider the issue and
return your ballot.
P alm trees have been trimmed.
In years past we’ve elected to
have the work done in May; this
year, however, we did the work in
June. That change was made to
avoid the additional expense
incurred when a tree
sprouts after the trimming
and the trimmer needs to
return for follow-up work.
Our trees do shed and litter
our yards and pool, so we
appreciate your patience in order to
save expense.
T he Board is taking a summer
break. However, if a need
arises we are available. Board
meetings will resume in September.
We have a new resident at 7706
E. Thornwood—Pat Reasbeck.
After growning up and attending
school in Minnesota, Pat moved to
Arizona in 2004 to be closer to her
sister and mom, who live in Mesa.
Pat graduated from the University of
Minnesota with a degree in
Consumer Protection. She is currently employed
by Discount Tire and works in north Scottsdale.
Her interests are travel and baseball. She is an
avid Minnesota Twins fan, but says she “may be”
open to switching her allegiance to our AZ
Diamondbacks ☺.
Welcome to the HoodWelcome to the HoodWelcome to the HoodWelcome to the Hood We have a new resident at 4818
N. 76th Place—Linda Hurley.
Like so many of us, Linda is a
transplant from cold country. She
grew up in NY City, then moved to
our country’s capital in 1988. From
Washington DC she relocated to
Baltimore and later moved to Phoe-
nix (which she now considers a permanent move).
Linda holds a full time position as an Executive
Assistant to the CEO of a company that designs &
operates data centers.
When free time presents itself, she busies herself
with interior design. She says her new house is a
great opportunity to express herself, and although
there are things to do, she is in no hurry.

A dmittedly, “old” is subjective. When compared to the structures built when this country was
founded, or compared to what Europe deems old, Villa Monterey is quite new. However, that
doesn’t preclude us from being seen as “historically significant”. Scottsdale’s Historic Preservation
Commission (HPC) has done the research and from hundreds of townhouse communities in
the City, we have been identified as the best example of the “emergence of the
townhouse community, post WW 2”. For this reason, Scottsdale’s HPC is pursuing
designating Villa Monterey as a “Historic District”.
O ver the next few months, a neighbor will be contacting you to discuss what a historic
designation would mean for you as a homeowner and for our community as a whole. We want
to hear your opinion and answer any questions you may have. We hope you will take a few minutes
to share in this survey.

saved many of the original documents from the time their homes were purchased.

S everal neighbors notified
board members to say that a
sharp message was posted on the
pool white board stating that
youngsters are not welcome at the
pool. Whoever left the message is
misinformed. Our pool is for the
enjoyment of residents and their guests
alike (children included).
If you do allow young guests to use the pool,
please ensure they are courteous and leave the
pool and grounds as they found them. All pool
toys should be put away. Most important, for
their own safety, be absolutely certain they
are properly supervised. Accidents can
happen in a heart beat. (It’s a sad statistic—
drowning is one of the leading causes of death
for children under the age of four in Arizona.) Source: Scottsdale PD’s Community News
