McGowan’s Musings
So - I’m still in shock - I thought it would
be close, but I never really thought that the
Referendum would result in the UK leaving
the European Union. For me, and for many
of my friends and colleagues who think of
ourselves as Brits, but also as Europeans, this
result is a body blow.
One of the most disturbing elements is that
it indicates the division that exists in the
UK - I knew very few people that indicated
that they would vote to leave, but obviously
over half of the country - or over half of
those that voted - wanted to exit, in theory
I should have known far more of them. The
immediate effects on the economy are quite
frightening, and I think that many people
may be thinking, ‘ … what have we done!’
Perhaps not - perhaps it will all settle down
and some bright new future beckons, but
certainly at the moment I can’t see it!
As for our industry I think that most will not
welcome this result; with as far as we could
see most agreeing that the best approach
was to stay and help to effect change from
within in what is admittedly not a perfect
set up . There has been some complacency,
I think that many thought that it was so
obvious that we should remain, we relaxed
and then were surprised by the impetus of
the Brexit movement. Brian Eno wrote a
piece echoing this a few days ago, sending
a wake-up call to complacent remain
supporters, sadly it wasn’t enough. or
maybe the die was already cast! The only
way forward for all of us who operate
internationally, is to remain unified and
continue to work together to improve all
the aspects that we can, particularly to
ensure that we retain free movement
throughout Europe.
We welcome your opinions and observa-
tions! Much as it’s hard to believe as I stare
out at the rolling grey cloud known in these
coastal parts as a ‘fret’, we are officially
now in summer – and should be looking
forward to festival frolicking and sunshine!
But unhappily it’s not just breezy Brighton
that’s not playing ball, that giant of a fes-
tival Glastonbury has been beset by heavy
rain, more of its famous mud, and appar-
ently nightmare traffic conditions – people
are not having a good time, lets hope eve-
rything improves for them, and for all of
the upcoming events everywhere. It’s not
been good so far, what with the terrible
effects of lightning storms on Germany’s
Rock Am Ring Festival and others. I think
it’s a matter of positive thinking by all of
us – starting now!...Good Grief! I kid you
not, as I wrote that the sun came out – it
works! (unfortunately not on referendum
results apparently!)
Since our last issue I have been in the Scottish
Highlands, in the fine city of Inverness, for
ExpoNorth, (see report in this issue), where
I saw some very impressive bands, in fact,
having been going through something of a
long term jaded phase, I was more impressed
than I have been for some time by acts like
Modern Glass Company and Catholic Action.
Scotland – the birth place of my parents -
has always produced good bands, but there
seems to be something going on there at the
moment. Maybe it’s something to do with
keeping an eye on independence after the
referendum… the country voted to stay in
the EU, you may have noticed!
I also attended a reception on the terraces of
the Houses of Parliament, a full turn out of
people from all sectors of the music industry,
plus politicians from all parties came together
to mark the release of Measuring Music, a
UK Music report that revealed that the total
industry GVA contribution amounted to £4.1
billion. Notable figures, particularly in light
of the referendum, showed that half of GVA
came from exports of £2.1 billion. As for the
live industry, in 2014 the sector returned the
fastest GVA and employment growth, as a
result of 26.7 million visits being made to
UK live music events. All very encouraging,
and the wine flowed and I had some great
conversations with some fine people,
including Wilko Johnson!
Right, just before I go, back to that positive
thinking, I will be going to Slovakia for the
great Pohoda Festival on July 7, where I shall
chair a session entitled, ‘Can Guitars Save
Democracy?’, I hope they can, and I’d like
the sun to shine please – can you arrange it?
In the meantime, Ladies and Gentlemen –

The German music business magazine “musikmarkt”
is going out of business after nearly 60 years.
According to a letter from chief editor Stefan Zarges
the last issue will be published in July and the website
will be taken offline.
“It is with great sadness that we are announcing the
closing of ,musikmarkt ,̀” said Stefan Zarges. ”It was
a hard decision but in spite of new ideas, business
models and permanent adjustment of the market
we`re approaching the point where we cannot
sustain our business.”
Founded 1959 by the publishing house Josef Keller
Verlag near Munich, “musikmarkt” was a pioneering
publication for the German music charts in the 60`s.
Over decades it has become the leading music
business magazine in the German speaking countries,
has been publishing a monthly issue with features,
interviews, background information and market
analysis. Current news has been published online
at www.musikmarkt.de and distributed to music
industry professionals via daily newsletter.
“`musikmarkt` had been taking part in all the ups
and downs of the music industry and made music
history by itself,” Zarges said. “After years of crisis
and pessimism the industry succeeded to reinvent
themselves, which made us feel optimistic about the
future. It is a great pity that we cannot support these
positive developments anymore.”
The chief editor wrote at the end of his letter: “I would
like to express my sincere thanks to our partners for
our good and trustful cooperation in recent years and
wish them success and all the best for the future.”

MIDEM director Jérôme Delhaye has
laughed off rumours the conference could
move outside Cannes, despite delegate
numbers continuing to fall for its 50th
anniversary.
Delhaye, who replaced Bruno Crolot in the
role following last year`s event, said there
were 4,400 attendees in 2016 - down from
5,500 in 2015 . He said this was partly
due to the flooding in Paris, which had
led to a few cancellations, along with the
discontinuation of a business-to-consumer
strand, noting that the actual number of
professionals in attendance was only “a
couple of hundred” down on last year.
More than 600 labels and 85 countries -
10 more than last year - were represented,
with the Top 5 countries represented being
France, Germany, the UK, US and Japan.
“It was for me the perfect 50th anniversary,”
said Delhaye. “It was full of celebration,
full of new ideas, full of new talents, full of
discovery, full of announcements and, on
top of that, full of business, so I can`t wait
for the next edition.”
Dismissing speculation that MIDEM could
shift to Barcelona in 2017, or even come
to an end entirely, he said: “Pardon my
French, but that`s crap. It will be in Cannes,
in June. We are not in a rush to announce
dates, it will take us a few weeks.”

This edition of XpoNorth, the Scottish Highlands and Islands event
previously known as GoNorth again took place in Inverness, and
attracted 1800 delegates.
I think it’s true to say that everything about XpoNorth is ‘compact’,
Inverness is certainly not a big city, but that means that the
venues are all in walking distance. This made it possible to see
a good number of the 70 acts appearing across 2 nights. These
included Rachel Sermanni, Pictish Trail, CatholicAction, the recently
reformed Astrid, and as I mentioned in The Musings the very
impressive Edinburgh three piece Modern Glass Company.
The Conference Programme was for the first time presented in the
Eden Court, a well-appointed and dedicated Conference Centre.
In the past the panels and presentations were held in hotels, and
although this worked well, the facilities at the Eden Court certainly
gave the edge to the 37 cross creative Industry seminars.
Speakers included legendary record producer John Leckie, Josh
Rabinowitz: EVP, Director of Music at Grey Worldwide, Duncan
Smith : Senior Music Supervisor, Sony Computer Entertainment,
Sat Bisla: Founder/ President A&R Worldwide/ Musexpo and Tristan
Hunt: Partner & Director of Business Development, AudioLock.
Your Editor chaired a panel titled, ‘Putting a Region on the Map:
The Success of The Highlands and Islands Festival Sector.’ This
looked at events ranging from the15,000 Tartan Heart Festival
at Belladrum, to much smaller but vital events on the islands of
Orkney and Eigg.
XpoNorth Live! presented a dedicated live TV Station broadcasting
interviews and live performances across the conference.
XpoNorth Director, Amanda Millen, said: “XpoNorth is all about
taking the temperature of the creative industries and allowing
delegates the opportunity to meet and greet the real movers
and shakers who work behind the scenes in screen, broadcast,
games development, music, design, fashion, craft, textiles, writing
and publishing. The buzz around Eden Court and at the evening
events was palpable this year. There is a can-do attitude among
the creative community in the Highlands and Islands which makes
Inverness the perfect place to host this annual hands-on festival
which is all about boosting creative careers.”

The UK has voted by a narrow margin to leave
the European Union in a historic referendum
and now speculations start on the effect on
the Live Music Industry.
Culture secretary John Whittingdale has no
doubt what Britain leaving the EU would
mean for the UK’s music industry: absolutely
nothing.
“We are the most extraordinarily creative
nation on the planet,” he told a mix of music
biz executives and politicians at a UK Music
reception at the House Of Commons last
week, “And that has nothing to do with
whether or not we are in the European
Union. The world may or may not be different
now. But the one thing which I’m absolutely
certain about is that British music will go on
continuing to thrive.”
Not many music people in the room seemed
to agree – and, indeed, his comments later
prompted no less towering a political figure
than Stuart Braithwaite of Mogwai to brand
him a “fucking moron” on social media.
According to a poll on Music Week’s Twitter
on whether a vote to Leave would be good
or bad for the UK music industry came back
with a resounding 91% saying it would be
bad news.
The most obvious area that could be affected
is the live business. Any executive who was
involved in the sector before Great Britain
joined what was then the Common Market
in 1973 has horror stories to tell of touring
through Europe in the days before freedom
of movement.
Back then, touring acts were required to
carry a ‘carnet’ – a document listing their
every piece of equipment that would be
rigorously checked at each border – and
visas were required to enter most European
territories.
“Happy days,” sighs Rob Hallett, CEO of
Robomagic. “Or were they? Anyone who
has ever tried to go from the EU into Russia
to perform will be having nightmares about
six-hour border crossings with additional,
expensive days off between shows in order
to allow for possible delays.”
Whether that actually became the norm
for UK artists would very much depend on
the type of deal the UK government struck
with the EU after its exit. Some in the live
business privately believe it’s highly unlikely
that anything would actually change, at least
in the short term, but others warn that things
could rapidly become very different.
“I think the live industry will be hit hard by
the travel restrictions that will inevitably come
with an EU exit,” says Hallett, who believes
the current visa-free touring schedule will be
replaced by the need to apply for a Schengen
Visa, a document that allows you to enter
most EU nations, that’s currently used by
most US and non-European touring acts.
“This will hurt young developing acts the
most,” he adds. “The extra paperwork
and costs involved will be an obstacle that
some simply won’t be able to transverse.
For example, they will need to show proof
of funds where fees are often cash on the
night, or they rely on the T-shirt sales to get
them through.
Will promoters in Europe even bother to
book UK talent when there are great new
acts locally that can be booked without the
additional hassle?”

In February this year, following their
performance at the ‘Where’s the Music’
event in Norrköping, Sweden, came the
shocking news that all four members of the
band Viola Beach and their manager were
killed when their car fell into a canal on the
way back to Stockholm to catch a flight back
to London.
It has now been announced that a nine track
compilation of songs recorded by the band
is to be released on 29 July.
In a statement announcing the album
release, the families of the band said: “We
are tremendously proud of everything the
boys achieved in such a short space of time.
Craig, Jack, Kris, River and Tom shared a
huge passion, talent and dedication to
music. We believe the best way to celebrate
our sons’ lives is to release an album of their
songs”.
“This is their legacy and we know deep in
our hearts that the boys would want the
world to listen to the music they poured
everything into”, they continued. “This was
only the beginning for them and these nine
songs were written with every intention to
be shared, heard and, most of all, enjoyed.
We hope that it brings you as much
happiness listening to it as we know it did to
them making it”.
For the second time in the last few years
PRS for Music are reviewing the present 3%
charge under tariff LP to all UK concerts and
festivals. This is the return that is paid out to
the writers and publishers of the copyrighted
songs that are performed at these events.
This recent review was launched last year
and AIF – The Association of Independent
Festivals are warning against what they
consider to be the catastrophic effect
that a rise to the live tariff would have on
grassroots events.
In a Press Release on June 14 The
Association of Independent Festivals
(AIF), the London based UK festival
organisers’ trade association warned
against any move by collection society
PRS for Music to increase the fees paid by
their members.
The Association are calling instead for a
separate festival tariff that will take into
account the unique nature, tight margins
and high-risk nature of staging music
festivals. Such a model already exists in
Ireland with the ‘multi-venue’ Tariff MS.
They also point out that music Festivals are
vital incubators for developing new artists
with some featuring over 80% emerging
artists and even large-scale events such as
the 50,000 capacity Bestival having a ratio
of 35%.
The AIF believe that any proposed increase
would bankrupt and close grassroots

festivals, destroying a vital platform for
artists and songwriters.
In addition, they argue that PRS for Music
are not taking into consideration that many
festivals are actually multi-arts events or that
not all people are attending them solely for
the music. Some AIF members have only
12% music content onsite and are currently
paying the equivalent of over 25% of their
music programming budget to PRS for Music
as a result of this existing, inflexible policy.
This argument was used, seemingly to some
good effect from the Festivals point of view,
in response to the last review.
This point is relevant because 54% of over
3000 respondents to AIF’s 2015 audience
survey when asked, “When buying a
ticket for a festival what is the single most
important factor when deciding which one to
attend?” replied that it was the “The general
atmosphere and overall vibe, character and
quality of the event.” Only 7.7% replied,
“Headline acts” and just 26% replied “the
music generally.”
Paul Reed, General Manager of the AIF said,
“It is remarkable and absurd that festivals
and concerts sit under a single tariff. With
the global recorded industry in transition,
independent festival promoters are taking
risks on breaking artists and staging high-
risk events on incredibly tight margins. PRS
for Music’s plans to increase this already
inflexible and damaging tariff could mean
the bankruptcy of many events that provide
a valuable platform for both emerging and
established artists There is a clear, unarguable
need for a separate festival tariff. This already
exists for festivals in Ireland, a clear precedent
and a workable model that PRS should
consider and which would result in a solution
that is fair, transparent and sustainable”.
Reed continued: “It is also prescient that PRS
for Music has over 118,000 members and
approached just under 32,000 of them as
part of this consultation. They received just
48 responses from their members (0.15%),
which is derisory. Songwriters therefore are
not driving this process. Any increase would
be a naked land grab by PRS, driven solely
by their executives and some major music
publishers”.
AIF made all of the above points in a
consultation response, alongside highlighting
a lack of transparency AIF has requested
clarification from PRS on the mechanics of
how PRS distributes income from festival
promoters to songwriters and creators. To
date no response or clarification on this point
has been received.
Paul Reed, General Manager of the AIF

It is still not officially clear if ticket buyers
of Rock Am Ring can expect to receive a
partial refund of their tickets fees. For the
second time in a row the festival was hit
by seriously heavy weather, causing local
authorities to withdraw the license for the
third day of the event. However, the festival
was already temporarily interrupted due to
lightning strikes on the evening on first day
of the event, seriously injuring 15 people
with another 57 hurt.
The good news is that nobody has died
as a result of the extraordinary weather
conditions. However a very small group of
people have asked for part refunds of their
ticket fees. VIP-News spoke to Andreas
Tryba of the law firm Dittmann & Hartmann
who filed a claim on behalf of 21 ticket
holders.
VIP-News: For the majority of
festivalgoers that attended Rock Am
Ring 2016 the legal situation for part
compensation of ticket fees seems to
be unclear. Can you please explain from
your point of view why and when Rock
Am Ring attendees are eligible to claim
a refund?
Andreas Tryba: In German civil law there
is a legal principle: ‘No performance, no
money!’ The cancellation of the festival
had the consequence that not all of the
announced acts have appeared. The fans
therefore have a right to part compensation
of ticket fees up to 50%.
VIP-News: Is there a time limit on when
festival visitors are able to file a claim
for compensation?
Tryba: The claim becomes invalid three years
after the end of the year in which it is made.
A limitation of this period is not covered
by the relevant terms and conditions and
would also be invalid.
VIP-News: Currently there still seems
to be a lot of uncertainty and a lack
of knowledge among Rock Am Ring
attendees. Some assume that due to
the fact that local authorities withdrew
the license for the event it isn’t the
fault of the promoter that the festival
has been suspended. Therefore they
believe that there is no legal right to
make a claim. How you would describe
the legal position of ticket holders in
terms of consumer rights when a live
event is suspended or cancelled?
Tryba: That’s true that it was not the fault
of the promoter, that the festival was
suspended. But that is not a requirement
for the part compensation of ticket fees.
It would be relevant for a further claim of
compensation. I think the consumer rights
are adequately secured.
VIP-News: You are acting on behalf of
21 festivalgoers. What is the current
situation of ongoing legal proceedings
in reference of your attempt to claim a
refund for your clients?
Tryba: Currently no court proceedings are
in progress. We want to achieve an out of
court settlement with the promoter, and
respectively the insurer.
VIP-News: Do you expect to take on
more clients for your services to claim
a refund regarding Rock Am Ring 2016?
Tryba: As a result of the coverage of the
last days we definitely expect that more
Rock Am Ring attendees will want to claim
compensation.

Although the overall economic state of
the live business appears to be reasonably
healthy – see mention of live sector in UK
Music’s Measuring Music Report in Musings
above – small venues are still having their
problems, and companies concentrated
on EDM are struggling, SFX have virtually
collapsed and All Tomorrow’s Parties, ATP,
are now to shut down.
ATP’s live music business has gone into
administration following a long series
of financial troubles for the tour and
festival promoter. The ATP Iceland festival,
planned for the beginning of July, has
now been cancelled. All other upcoming
ATP promoted live shows will go ahead
as planned but alternative promoters will
take over the running of the events, says
the company.
In a statement ATP said: “It is with deep
sadness we are announcing that ATP
festivals and live promotions are closing
down. After months of speculation, our
funding for Iceland has been pulled and
we are no longer able to continue, so will
be closing down the entire live side of ATP
festivals and live promotions with immediate
effect and going into administration”.
Financial problems have driven the company
into administration before. However, in
2012 its upcoming tours and festivals went
ahead, transferred to a new company set up
by founder Barry Hogan. Its festivals were
still hit by financial problems which often
led to last minute cancellations - 2014’s
Jabberwocky festival in London, was pulled
with just three days’ notice.
This March, ATP failed to cover its
commitments to holiday camp operator
Pontins, due to host two planned UK
festivals. The first of these, curated by
comedian Stewart Lee, did go ahead.
However, the second, curated by Drive Like
Jehu, was cancelled within a week after
having moved to Manchester.
At that time ATP still maintained that its
Icelandic event was safe, as it was run by
a separate company. But when Múm and
Blanck Mass , then Fabio Frizzi pulled out
– it was obvious that the event was not to
go ahead.
Finally the Company released a statement,
confirming that, “ATP Iceland festival is no
longer happening”, but continued to say,
“But all our other UK shows will have new
promoters appointed and tickets transferred
(all purchased tickets remain valid with the
new promoter). We will post details of the
administrators and what to do for festival
ticket refunds over the next week”.
It concluded: “We are very sorry we could
not make this work and have tried to survive
throughout all our recent losses but we are
no longer able to trade and have to accept
we cannot go on. Thank you to all our loyal
customers who have supported us and
incredible artists who have performed or
curated for us over the years and made ATP
so special while it lasted”.
ATP’s recordings and music publishing
businesses are operated by a separate
company and are believed to be unaffected
by the live division’s administration.

In July 2010 one of the most horrifying tragedies to take place at a
live event in Europe, resulted in the death of 21 people with more
than 500 injured following a mass panic at the techno-event Love
Parade in Duisburg.
It took the District Court of Duisburg more than six years of
investigations to try to find out what caused the disaster and who
was responsible. But in April 2016 the court decided not to proceed
with a lawsuit. This decision shocked the bereaved of those victims
that lost their lives at the event and many others. Gabi Müller, a
mother who lost her only child in Duisburg, launched a petition at
the online platform Change.org, appealing for the higher regional
court in Düsseldorf to bring the case to trial.
Besides the petition, Baum Reiter & Collegen, the law firm
representing the mother, as well as the prosecution department
of Duisburg immediately filed official complaints when the court
in Duisburg announced its decision. Meanwhile the online petition
gained more than 310.000 signatures by mid June.
VIP-News spoke with Prof. Dr. Julius Reiter, who represents more
than 100 clients still suffering today from what happened at Love
Parade.
VIP-News: Online-Petitions on Change.org as filed by
your client Gabi Müller are not legally binding. Would an
official petition filed at the petition commission of the state
parliament of Northrhine-Westphalia not be more effective
than the one on Change.org?
Julius Reiter: No, a petition to Parliament would have no prospect
of success in any case because of the separation of powers and
the independence of the judiciary . The petition by Mrs Müller
has more symbolic character. It has to make the case with the
Justice representatives that the decision of the District Court is not
comprehensible.
VIP-News: Please let us know your thoughts and comments
on the decision of District Court Duisburg to reject the
institution of full proceedings regarding the Love Parade
case.
Reiter: Disallowing a charge after about 6 years investigation is a
legal scandal. Those affected are unable to understand why a
criminal investigation can now not take place. They also have the
right on behalf of their dead to insist and ensure that the matter is
now not shelved.”

VIP-News: In a press release the District Court Duisburg
argued that, amongst other points, the expertise applied
by Prof. Dr.Still ‘suffers from serious methodological
and contextual defects.’ Do you agree with this opinion
regarding the quality of the expertise by the District Court
Duisburg?
Reiter: “No. Professor Still is a renowned and internationally
recognized expert . The criticism of the Duisburg judge does not
appear entirely free of arrogance to me . The prosecution and the
Attorney General have considered the report meaningful enough on
which to base an indictment. If the methodology of Prof. Still was
wrongly chosen then it is a manual fault by the prosecutor and the
judge, it falls to them to tell the experts what is important. If the
judge was unconvinced by the findings, why did they not seek a
second opinion from another expert?“
VIP-News: Your chancellery filed a complaint at the Higher
Regional Court of Düsseldorf to take on the Love Parade
case. What are your arguments as to why the Higher Regional
Court should now consider the instigation of a lawsuit
concerning the Love Parade disaster?
Reiter: “Anyone who had a bird’s eye view of the movement of the
crowds in the Duisberg tunnel, no longer needs to question the fact
that there existed a serious organizational fault. And there must,
after all, be someone responsible, as the visitors did not choose the
routing themselves.”
It is expected that it will take another couple of months before the
higher regional court Düsseldorf decides if unlike the district court
of Duisburg, it will proceed with a lawsuit regarding Love Parade.

in Madrid has contacted VIP-News to inform us of the venue’s
recent extension of capacity. For what is the leading venue in Spain,
presenting concerts, sporting and other events. Barclaycard Center is
a very active venue, and comes second only to London´s O2 in Europe,
in terms of number of events in a year; It closed 2015 with a total of
131 events. During 2015 and 2016, the Madrid venue staged concerts
from Kiss, Maroon 5, Robbie Williams and Muse, internationally, and
Alejandro Sanz, Vetusta Morla and Sabina at a national level.
Last month the authorities granted approval to the venue’s new
Autoprotection and Evacuation Plan. This allows the Spanish venue
to extend its maximum capacity to 17.453 spectators, almost
2.000 more than previously, and to achieve its aim of being more
competitive in attracting the most important international tours,
which of course need huge box grosses to include a city in their
European Tour. The extended capacity means it can now go for
acts such as Madonna, Beyonce or Coldplay, artists that have not
played in Madrid due to the Barclaycard Center´s previous capacity.
In the following months its stage will present shows by Iron Maiden,
Scorpions, Justin Bieber and The Cure.
In a recent survey performed by accountancy consultants KMPG,
the economic impact of the events celebrated in Barclaycard Center
meant a contribution to Madrid´s GDP of 194 million euros, and the
generation of 1.768 job positions.
Apart from being Head Quarters of Real Madrid and Movistar
Estudiantes, the arena has based NBA Global Games Madrid
2015, and Euroleague´s Final Four, the main event of the Euroepan
basketball; and it also hosts several family shows and corporate
events.

UK Booking agencies Adastra and Regent Music has announced a
merger.
Working under the new name of Strada Music LLP, the two agencies
are now working together representing artists in the folk, roots,
world, jazz and Americana genres including The Unthanks, Peatbog
Faeries, Colin Hay and Barbara Dickson.
Alongside Partners Chris Wade (pictured) and Phil Simpson, live
agents Graham Smout, Polly Bolton and Leila Cooper will be working
a roster of more than 80 artists. Strada Music will be based at the old
Adastra base in North Dalton, East Yorkshire.
“It’s a very exciting prospect,” said Simpson, who founded Regent
Music in 2012. “Not only have we all been friends for years, but when
you’re able to collaborate, pool resources and share costs we have the
opportunity to make something very special indeed.”
Wade launched Adastra in 1987, and it has gone on to specialise in
folk, roots, world and acoustic music, as well as developing the well-
established Beverley Folk Festival.
Regent Music merged with GPS Music in 2014, bringing a wider variety
of names including Michael Chapman, Luka Bloom and Lindisfarne to
a roster overseen by live agent Graham Smout.
“I am very excited about this fantastic new merger which will enable
us to continue to represent our artists in the excellent way for which
we have become known, as well as expanding the roster of artists
we are able to represent,” added Chris Wade. “We are now also
branching out more into the jazz and classical genres with recent
signings including Jacqui Dankworth who will be amongst good
company alongside the likes of Martin Taylor and Juan Martin who we
have a long history of representation for.”
Management company Three Six Zero has added Dave Wallace to its
senior management team.
Wallace brings to Three Six Zero his roster of artists, including You
Me At Six and Bat For Lashes, and also fellow managers Graham
Brown (Magic Man, Foreign Fields, Hembree) and Ed Morford
(YMAS).
Wallace (pictured) most recently led the accomplished management
company The League International which he started in 2012, signing
You Me At Six and Bat For Lashes and hiring Brown.
He was previously in management at Wildlife Entertainment and
prior to that worked as an agent at Primary Talent.
Dean Wilson said: “It’s great to have Dave and his team as part of
the Three Six Zero family. They bring a high calibre of management
experience to the company and will strengthen our presence on the
East Coast.”
Dave Wallace says: “I am very proud to join up with the most exciting
management firm in entertainment.
“From my first meetings with Three Six Zero I knew this was an
opportunity that would benefit our artists and continue to grow
their global success.”
The news comes two months after Three Six Zero appointed Stirling
McIlwaine to the new position of SVP of US Artist Management.

CTS Eventim- The Come Back of FKP Scorpio
It was foreseeable; CTS Eventim again increased its stake in FKP
Scorpio up to 50.2 percent after lowering it in 2010 from the same
level to 45 percent. The move became necessary when CTS Eventim
took over Ticket Online and tried to avoid an annual revenue result
of more than 500 million Euros that year. The reasons for this are
that German cartel authorities automatically have to approve deals
and take overs when a company gains revenue of more than 500
million Euros.
Another aspect is that the revenue results of FKP Scorpio in the
last couple of years haven’t been consolidated within the turnover
results of CTS Eventim. As CTS Eventim is now holding the majority
of FKP Scorpio again, the company is able to compensate for the
lower revenue and profit results caused by the departure of the
MLK team which moved on to launch the German branch of Live
Nation.
Since the beginning of the year the Eventim share went down from
35.57 to 30.20 Euros
DEAG- Annual Meeting Agreed On New Supervisory Board Member
The shareholders of DEAG agreed at its AGM on the proposal
to appoint Michael Busch to become the fourth member of the
supervisory board of the company. DEAG undertook its general
assembly on June 23 in Berlin and agreed on various other topics
as part of the company agenda such as the approval of the
management board and the supervisory board and the appointment
of the company auditors.
The management board furthermore confirmed that it is confident
to archive in the ongoing business year an EBIT-result (Earnings
Before Interests & Taxes) between 3 to 5 million Euros.
On January 4 the DEAG share was at 3.92, on June 23 it is on 3.29
Euro.
Live NationAnd It’s Passion For Ticketing
The company has already stated in its business report for the Q1/2016
results: “Ticketmaster continued to build its global marketplace in
the first quarter, increasing gross transaction value (GTV) by 18% at
constant currency. This growth was led by continued strength in our
secondary ticketing GTV, which was up 43% at constant currency,
making this quarter the eighth consecutive quarter with growth over
20% in secondary GTV.”
However currently the company is struggling to deliver compensation
to ticket buyers resulting out of a settlement of a class-action
lawsuit filed in October 1999 and February 2013. The ticketing
arm of live Nation agreed to spend $400 million in the form of
free tickets and discounts for certain shows. Nevertheless, US-
media reports indicated that according to eligible ticket buyers Live
Nation apparently did not deliver high quality concerts as part of its
compensation measure and until now in only 19 US-states.
The Live Nation share started the year at a price level $24.14, when
the edition of VIP-News went on print before the Summer vacation
the share was worth 24.04
In the one year retrospective all three shares suffered losses:
CTS Eventim dropped 10.08 percent, Live Nation went down 18,18
percent and DEAG due to its significant financial loss according to
the its new festivals lost 43.85 percent.
