Principals Message
Safety FirstWe care deeply for the safety of our students. We appreciate your cooperation with ournew security measures this year. Below is some additional information to help keep ourstudents safe.
Please make every effort to ensure that your child knows his/her after schoolplans, and that the teacher/school does, as well.
If you need to make a change to your childs after school plans, please do so asearly in the day as possible. If the change does not involve CARE, please callthe school office at 209-8000. The office is open from 7:30-3:30 daily. It is abusy place! If your call is unable to be answered right away, please leave amessage, and it will be picked up as soon as possible. Someone is here to
answer phones until 4:00 PM. If the change does involve CARE, please call the CARE main office directly
at 209-7549. The message will be relayed to the appropriate parties. (Pleasenote: Should you attempt to call our site CARE office at dismissal time, thephones will go directly to voicemail. Leave a message, and the site manager willpick up the message and respond as soon as all students are safely checked inand accounted for.)
If your child participates in a Community Schools class, and there is anyuncertainty of their whereabouts on a Tuesday afternoon, please call Dani Hart,Community Schools Program Coordinator, directly at 209-8013. If she does notanswer, please call the Community Schools main line at 209-7551. They will beable to contact her directly.
If your child rides the bus, and there is a concern about his/her whereabouts,please contact Durham School Services directly at 615-7864.
Election Day is just around the corner. On Tuesday, November 5, our front gate will beopen for voters to come and vote. We would like to have some volunteers throughoutthe day to monitor the coming and going of voters and to direct people to the pollsas they arrive.

Spanish Immersion Program2013 Advisory Board - Parent Application
What is the purpose of the Advisory Board?
In order deliver the highest quality Spanish Immersion program, and to meet the needs of
the various stakeholders in it, a Spanish Immersion Advisory Board shall convene and beconsulted on issues related to the program.
Who is on the Advisory Board?
The immersion teachers and the principal make up the Immersion Committee at VentanaVista. This group meets regularly to share best practice, collaborate with one another,
and make decisions pertaining to the program.
The Advisory Board will join the Immersion Committee at least three (3) times during
the school year. The Advisory Board is comprised of English counterpart teachers in theimmersion program, other administrators (CFSD World Language Coordinator and/or
Associate Superintendent), and parents (one parent at each grade level with immersion).
What are the qualifications and attributes needed to serve as a parent member of
the Advisory Board?
Parent members must have a child (or children) in our Spanish Immersion program.
Members must be persons of goodwill who will think and act on behalf of the entireschool community. Members must also be willing and able to help coordinate
related events/programs (specific events/programs are TBD; examples may include:
parent education evenings, book clubs, etc.).
If you are interested in being considered for a position on our Advisory Board, please
complete this application and return it to the school office by October 11, 2013. Thankyou for your consideration of this important role! Deadline extended to November 1!

Subject: Open Enrollment for School Year 2014-2015
Pursuant to A.R.S. 15-816 Catalina Foothills School District will begin its open enrollment
procedures for the 2014-2015 school year effective December 1, 2013. The law requires every
Arizona school district to follow a prescribed procedure and timetable for admitting out-of-
district transfer students and resident transfer students (those who live in the District but are
attending a school outside the attendance area of their residence). All students who currently
attend CFSD schools and reside in other districts, and all CFSD resident students who are
attending a different school than they would based on their residence, are impacted by this law.
We require that all open enrollment students apply for admission each year.Therefore, if your child is a resident transfer (open enrollment) student and you want him/her to
continue in that capacity, or if your child resides outside of the district and you want him/her to
continue to attend a CFSD school next year, please complete an application form between
December 1, 2013, and February 28, 2014.
Open Enrollment applications and information regarding the application
process are on the district web site, www.cfsd16.org(as of December 1, 2013), orat the district office Monday through Friday, 7:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. The district office is located

Applications will be available as of December 1, 2013, and may be completed on line
(www.cfsd16.org), or submitted in person at the district office. Electronic applications must be

Decisions about admission, based on capacity, will be made by April l, 2014. At that time, all
applicants will be notified whether their applications have been accepted, wait listed, or declined.

CFSD/VV Plant Science Family Night is November 1st at Ventana Vista School. The
evening includes 40 hands-on learning centers presented by University of Arizona
scientists and researchers and our Tucson Community--- Desert Museum, Desert
Harvesters, Desert Legumes, Tucson Village Farm, Tucson Botanical Gardens and many
more.

Parenting Classes Coming Soon!!
In November, the ECMS counselors will be offering a 3-week class for parents to learn
and discuss how parents can best help their children at school. Classes will be held at
Esperero Canyon on Monday, November 18th
, November 25th
and December 2nd
. Classes
will run from 3:00-4:30 p.m.
This program is called Parents on Board and is designed for parents who want their
children to succeed at school but want more direction on how they can work hand in hand
with the school. The program uses entertaining video along with group discussion toprovide parents with tools to help their children get the best education possible.
Some of the topics that will be addressed are:
Childrens learning style Promoting cooperative behavior Encouraging and motivating children How parents can help with homework without doing it themselves Language and reading skills Writing, Spelling, Math and Science subjects
