VitalSource Bookshelf® Online - System Requirements

In order to use VitalSource Bookshelf Online, you need:

• A PC or Mac with one of the following web browsers installed: •Firefox 2.0 or later (PC or Mac)•Internet Explorer 6*,7, or 8 (PC Only)•Safari 3 or greater (PC or Mac)

• Display resolution on your computer set to 1024 x 768 or higher• An Internet connection (broadband recommended)

*Internet Explorer 6 is supported; however, it is recommended that you use Internet Explorer 7 or 8 for the best overall experience.

Creating your User Account - Bookshelf OnlineTo begin using VitalSource Bookshelf Online you will need to create a VitalSource Bookshelf account first.

1.) Go to http://online.vitalsource.com.Click on the Register for an Account button.

2.) Fill out the form in full and then press the save button.

3.) Once your account has been created, reload http://online.vitalsource.com.

Note: If you have already downloaded the Bookshelf and created a Bookshelf user name and password, skip to Page 6.

Registration Requirements - when registering please:A. Fill out the form in full including the redemption code sent to you by Laureate AmsterdamB. Use your Laureate Student Email Account Address and the same password you use to to access your classroom.

VitalSource Bookshelf® Online - Redeeming Book Code

Redeeming your book code - Bookshelf OnlineTo redeem your book code, please do the following:

1.) Go to http://online.vitalsource.comand sign in with your registered email address and

password.

2.) Accept the license agreement if you are presented with it.

3.) Click on the Options tab and then click on the redeem button. Enter your redemption code and

select the OK button.

Viewing your book - Bookshelf OnlineTo view your new ebook, please do the following:

4.) Once your code has been redeemed your book list will be refreshed to show your new book(s).

5.) Once your book list has been refreshed your books will be listed in your library.

6.) Click on any book title to open it in Bookshelf Online.

Navigating Bookshelf Online

All of your books are accessible through the “All Titles” Library. Books that you have recently viewed will be listed on the top of the main Bookshelf Online Landing Page.

You can change what library you are in by clicking on the Find Collections link that is located next to All Titles.

To open a book, simply click on its title.

Inside the Book with Bookshelf Online

To move sequentially through the book, click on the arrows that appear on top of each page. This will allow you to move forward and backwards one page at a time.

If you need to go to a specific page in the printed book, click on the Printed Page link and enter your desired page number.

To navigate to a specific chapter, click on its title.

Highlights with Bookshelf Online

To make a single highlight in Bookshelf Online:• With your mouse, select the text that you want to highlight.• Click the Make Highlight button

To change the category of the highlighted text:•Click the Notes tab•Click Change Highlighter•Click the desired highlighter category

To delete a single highlight in Bookshelf Online:• Click on the Notes Tab• Click on the Delete button.

To make a new highlighter category in Bookshelf:•First, make a highlight•Click on the Notes tab•Choose the Edit Highlighters button•Choose the Add New Highlighter button•Name it and choose its color•Click the Add Highlighter button

To delete or edit a highlighter in Bookshelf:• First, make a highlight• Click on the Notes Tab• Choose Edit Highlights• Choose Delete • If you want to edit a highlighter, choose edit• Make your edits and save them

Notes with Bookshelf Online

To make a note in an existing single highlight:• Locate a highlight. • Click the Notes tab• Click the Add Note button• Enter the note and click the Save Note button.

To remove a note from an existing highlight.• Click on the notes tab• Find the Notes and Highlight you want to remove the note from.• Click the Edit Note button, delete the content of the note, and then save it.

To make a Note in Bookshelf Online:• With your mouse, select the text you want to highlight.• Click the Make Highlight button• Click the Notes Tab• Click the Add Notes button• Enter your note and click the Save Notes button.

To delete a Note in Bookshelf Online:• Click the Notes Tab• Click the Delete Note button.

Printing and Syncing with Bookshelf Online

To Sync your notes and highlights between Bookshelf Online and Downloadable.

• Open up Bookshelf Downloadable • Go to the Edit menu and select Preferences...• Click the Sync tab• Click the Sync highlighters between all of my computers•Close the preferences

What does note syncing do?

Activating Note Syncing allows your notes and highlights to be backed up and stored on VitalSource’s secure servers when you are connected to the Internet. This means that notes and highlights from your downloaded Bookshelf will be synced to display on Bookshelf Online – and vice versa when your computer is next online. This syncing will also happen with a second computer if you have installed Bookshelf on it.

To print in Bookshelf Online:• Go to the page you want to print• Go to the file menu and select print• Choose your printer and print.

** Despite the options offered by your print manager software, Online will only allow you to print the page that you are currently viewing.
