William Lyons, a priest of the Archdiocese of St. Louis, who died in November 2011 at the age of 81. Msgr. Lyons had most recently served for eight years as a spiritual direc- tor at the Pontifical North American College. Prior to his assignment in Rome, he had spent many years in his home diocese faithfully ministering in parish, education, campus ministry and semi- nary assignments. He had been director of the Newman Center at the University of Missouri-St. Louis for nearly thirty years and a full-time faculty member of Kenrick-Glennon Seminary, St. Louis, for nearly 10 years. Msgr. Lyons was a good friend of IPF as well, ever since his days on the faculty of Kenrick-Glennon Seminary. ose ties remained strong as he was assigned to the North American College. Msgr. Dear Friends,Over 200 individuals will soon arrive
here in Omaha to participate in one of our four summer programs of spiritual forma-tion. Seminarians, priests and seminary faculty will receive a warm welcome and will be invited to grow closer to the Lord in the days and weeks spent with IPF.
The opportunity to participate in these programs, which for many becomes a life-changing experience, becomes possible only through the gifts and sacrifices of the many individuals and groups whose names are recorded on the pages of this report. When we allow the imaginations of our hearts
to ponder this vast network of grateful participants and faithful supporters, we see a “conspiracy of love” on the part of the Holy Spirit who brings the desire of seminarians, priests and seminary faculty to grow and to learn, together with the desire of many individuals and groups to provide the means for this to happen. The pages of this report represent that bond of gratitude and generosity.
Special thanks go to the many who have responded so enthusiastically to the Pope John Paul II Fund for Priests. It was only one year ago that we launched this initiative. The number of priests honored and the number of people desiring to hon-or priests expresses the deep affection that Catholics have for the priests who have faithfully served them and their families.
Likewise, we want to express our gratitude to our hosts here at Creighton University as well as at the University of St. Mary of the Lake/Mundelein Semi-nary who partner with us year after year and offer their continual support for our programs in Omaha and in Chicago.
May these pages be a reminder of the beauty of the ever-growing family of the Institute for Priestly Formation and an invitation for us all to be joined in prayer for one another. Recent IPF Events
Over 300 IPF supporters attended a Lenten Morning of Re-flection on March 9th in Omaha. Into your Hands I Commend My Spirit was presented by Fr. Rich Gabuzda, IPF’s Executive Direc-
tor, Deacon James Keating, Director of Theological Formation, and Kathy Kanavy, Director of Spiritual Direction Formation.
March 25th marked the 5th anniversary of IPF becoming a Public Association of the Faithful. An anniversary Mass was celebrated in Omaha, Nebraska Chapel at St. Cecilia’s Cathedral followed by a breakfast. Members of IPF renewed their commitment to the Institute.
The Blessed John Paul II Seminary in Washington, D. C. was the site for an alum-ni reunion in January. Alums from various IPF programs came together for an hour of Eucharistic Adoration and prayer before the opening Mass for the annual March for Life. Alumni enjoyed the heavy hor d’oeuvres meal before heading to the all-night vigil at the Basillica of the Immaculate Conception.
Msgr. Richard Wolbach was honored with the John Paul II Award for Priestly Service at the 10th annual Celebration of Priesthood Banquet held in Omaha in April. Monsignor was a young Marine during World War II and landed on the beaches of Iwo Jima with his platoon. He served the Archdiocese of Omaha in a variety of assign-ments including the chaplaincy at the VA Hospital before retiring. He is pictured here with Archbishop George Lucas, Fr. IPF was presented with the prestigious St. John Vianney Award from the National Conference of Diocesan Vocation Directors. The award, given only four times in the past ten years, is made to organizations or individuals who are making “a truly outstanding contribution to vocations by responding

Alumni gathered at the Cenacle Retreat Center in Clearwater, Florida for a retreat led by Fr. Tim Gal-lagher, O.M.V. Retreats are offered twice a year to alumni of IPF programs. Alumni come together to renew their enthusiasm for the priesthood and their love for Christ.
