Production ( Unit I & II ): Mechanized lime coating of CS Ladle at Unit I & II

CS ladle internal surface is required to be coated with lime before collection of liquid metal/slag for easy stripping of skull. It was decided to mechanize the process of lime coating, by developing an in-house system with a tank and compressed air connection at both Unit-I & II. The mechanized lime coating has resulted in uniform coating of the internal surface of CS ladle and reduced the stripping problems.

Revival of boiler – 1 operation at 108 MW PP

Due to aging & prolonged service , Fire bar holders were getting stuck with broken parts of sealing blocks leading to stoker jamming and stoppage of grate. Hence Boiler was out of service since 29.09.2015. Indigenous LHS sealing blocks were developed and manufactured by reverse engineering at very low cost to solve the problem. Consequently Boiler-1 was successfully made operational from 04.08.2016.

Cooling towerClarified water is used in place of raw water in main cooling circulating water system of 30 MW PP. The benifit :

·Reduced water consumption due to less blow-down to maintain high cycle of Concentration. ·Condenser Vacuum is maintained at high level due to less scaling effect on tubes.·No use of chemicals for slit dispersant and reduction in consumption of sulphuric acid by 33%.

Interconnection of UPS in 30 MW PP

Earlier both the UPS of 30 KVA capacity each, were connected independently to two load distribution boards mainly for DCS & Turbine supervision and protection system. In case of failure/tripping of any one of the UPS, the unit was getting tripped for protection, leading to generation loss. Now both the UPS have been interconnected by switching logic with hot-standby mode for each other. In case of failure/tripping of any one UPS, the other UPS takes over uninterruptedly to avoid tripping of unit; thereby increasing system reliability.

Renovation /Technical Upgradation / Key Initiative : SMC,MMC

·Fatigue sensing devices have been installed at 6 Tippers of SMC & MMC. This device will give warning (audio visual) to the drivers of the vehicles in case of fatigue to drivers. The driver fatigue monitoring system specifically includes a camera placed behind steering column which is capable of eye tracking, via infrared LED detectors. In case the driver is not paying attention to the road and feeling drowsy, the system will warn the driver through warning sounds

·To improve performance of mobile water tankers during water sprinkling activity on haul road, we have adopted pressurized sprinkling system by use of 5 HP diesel pumps and conical shape nozzles. This will ensure reduction in skidding of vehicles on haul road as well as reduce the water consumption by covering a longer distance.
