Letter From the Editor
With the change of the semester came a
new newsletter staff. This semester, the
newsletter-writing torch has been handed
off to Laura’s 21st Century Communications
students. After much hard work and
dedication, the students have put together
a fantastic newsletter. With all of these
exciting things happening at MC2 lately,
this semester is sure to be a great one!

Meet Jennifer Meet Jennifer Parr, our new science
educator! It’s great having her here at MC2
High School. Before coming to MC2,
Jennifer taught at
H a mi l t o n H i g h
School. We asked
her what are the
d i f f e r e n c e s
be tw een b o th
schools and she
answered: “The
thing is, there are
fewer students here than at Hamilton. The
staff here is really supportive. This school is
more geared to keeping kids focused and
in class.” Jennifer has a really fascinating
background. She worked in advertising
and used to work for the newspaper. She
was also an army recruiter. In the army, she
worked at the Department of Logistics. “It
was really cool,” she states “I got to drive
everything they had!”

Electives News
Apart from English, Laura teaches an
elective class called Novels. Novels is an
elective for juniors and seniors that allows
them to get ahead in their reading, in
addition to the daily 20 minutes in SSR
(Sustained Silent Reading). Since reading is
such an important part of a student's
education, Laura believes that this class
benefits students. Novels is currently
reading a book called Whale Talk, and
after she plans to read Of Mice and Men,
and Sherlock Holmes. It’s a class that
makes reading fun!

Abby explained Art and Humanities as a
special class that is meant to be fun while
bringing out students’ creativity. During this
semester of Art and Humanities, the class
will be reading The Importance of Being
Earnest and will watch the play Fences. The
class will be doing a lot of acting, learning
about visual arts, and developing design
and visual balance skills.

Evelyn Wippich is an English teacher in her
second year at MC2. Evelyn has been busy
since this is one of the most important times
of the year. She is working with the seniors
in their Senior Seminar class to get ready for
JOG (Justification of Graduation)
presentations, which is the biggest
assignment in the Seeds Of Health high
schools. JOG is a mandatory project for
any student at SOH to be able to pass on
to college and the world. Students of the
2016 class will present a 45 minute Power

Math and Social Studies News
Math is usually the class that students
wouldn’t like at any other school, but here
at MC2, math is somewhere students want to
go. In Jeff’s Algebra 1 class, the freshmen
are learning equalities; then in Geometry,
sophomores are learning about polygons
and more shapes; meanwhile in Algebra 2,
the juniors are doing polynomials and
functions; and lastly seniors are doing
algorithms. We asked “Has anyone failed
your class before?” (no brainer question).
But Jeff believes it is his job to teach
responsibility and make sure students are
prepared for life. After this interview we
believe Jeff is the right guy to teach math
and make sure students are prompt and
ready for the future.

Here’s the scoop! There’s a lady named
Abby, she teaches three classes, but what
are they learning? One of these subjects is
U.S. History. Abby loves history because “it’s
practically a story” and she loves stories. In
U.S. History, we are taught about the most
important and change-impacting events in
the United States. Abby teaches Sociology
classes, which she really enjoys, especially
the social problems class because it allows
students to analyze social problems like
crime and non-conforming behavior.

graduate. The students will be scored on
400 points by teachers, parents, and
students. Evelyn suggests that students save
their work and projects from their high
school career to make creating their JOG
portfolio less stressful.

English News
Laura has the great honor of teaching two
different English classes. Currently, juniors
are reading Hamlet and sophomores are
reading The Catcher In The Rye. Laura
enjoys being an English teacher because
she believes that English can be a lot of
fun. She enjoys teaching high school
students because they can read more
challenging content that has more
meaning than middle school books. Laura’s
favorite thing about her classes is how she
can have organized fun with them while still
getting a good education.

Fun Fridays in February In order to defeat any mid-winter slumps, Student Government

Seeds of Health, Inc. is a K-12 system of schools offering innovative options to
meet the needs of students. It includes Seeds of Health
Elementary, Grandview High School, MC2 High School,
Tenor High School, and Veritas High School.
Student Government News Evelyn is co-moderator/teacher assistant
for Student Government with Abby.
Student Government is working on
preparations for Prom and Crushes for
Crushes. Crushes for Crushes is like Candy
Grams; students buy a Crush soda for their
friends, teachers, or crushes and it will be
delivered to them at the end of the week.
Student Government’s goal is to involve all
grade levels and have fun while making
high school an inclusive experience.
Students are in control of basically the
whole club and school activities. Student
Government meets Thursdays after school
until 4:30. All are welcome to join.

Gaming Club News At MC² on Friday after school most
students are heading home for the
weekend. Many choose to stay for “Nerdy
Movie Club” or “Gaming Club.” Gaming
Club is a major thing with Jeff so we asked
Jeff about the origins of the club. The club
initially started because the school is
located in the Third Ward and almost
everyone lives in opposite directions of
town. Starting a gaming club
gives students a chance to hang out and
enjoy the feeling of being with their friends
right here at school. Every week there is a
new featured game. The most popular
featured game is the infamous Super
Smash Brothers series. But there are many
other games that are played often.
Another reason why gaming club is huge:
who doesn’t like gaming?

GSA News Evelyn is moderator of GSA (Gay-Straight
Alliance) a national organization for
everyone. GSA is currently working with
Student Government selling Crushes for
Crushes. Evelyn would like to get more
people involved from every grade level
and have a positive presence in the
school. Evelyn wants people to feel
comfortable and have an open and
accepting environment. They hope to
have more of a role in Prom with the
decorations, music, etc. This is GSA’s third
year at MC2.

Science News Jennifer said she
expects her Science
students to do their
best and use their
brains. She doesn't
expect them to get
e v e r y a n s w e r
correct, but to try
and be creative and
think. We asked her
how her outside life
affects the way she
teaches and she said
we are all different so
we all have different
ways to teach. The
important thing is
that the students
learn. In her classes,
Jennifer tries to
impart her wisdom to
the students, showing
them how science is
integral to our lives.
We asked Jennifer
what makes her class
different from other
science classes, and
she replied that her
General Knowledge
Science Jeopardy
has helped students
learn interesting
science facts while
e a r n i n g p o i n t s
toward a grand
prize. “The students
e n j o y t h e
c o m p e t i t i o n
between classes and
they are all striving
to earn the most
points to win the
General Knowledge
Science Jeopardy
grand prize party.”
The students think it
really makes her
class one of a kind.
