Questions of the Week June 7, 2020 Gospel

The mystery of the Trinity - Father, Son, Holy Spirit.

Question for Children: When people

love each other, how do they treat

each other?

Question for Youth: The Trinity is cel-

ebrated today. How would you de-

scribe your relationship with God the

Father? With Jesus? With the Spirit?

Question for Adults: If you were to

encourage the members of your own

parish to live as a “community of

love,” which is how we define the Trin-

ity, how would you advise them to

live? Use St. Paul’s list of exhortations

as your starting point.

Shepherd’s Call

“RADIATE CHRIST” PASTORAL LETTER

As you recall, next summer we will celebrate the two centuries of faith since our archdiocese was estab-

lished on June 19, 1821. In anticipation of the bicentennial, Archbishop Schnurr has written a pastoral

letter, entitled “Radiate Christ,” urging each of us to discipleship and to “rediscover the joy of knowing

Christ deeply and following Him, thereby becoming a witness to the world.” It is Archbishop Schnurr’s

hope that all Catholics of the archdiocese will prayerfully read this letter and engage with its contents,

reflecting upon our relationship with the Lord and considering how we can individually and collectively

Radiate Christ to all whom we encounter.

To download Archbishop Schnurr’s Pastoral Letter, click Pastoral Letter PDF

The ugliness and the reality of sin continues to be evident in our fallen world. This past week it was seen in the

death of George Floyd. The protests and the outrage show that our hearts know something is wrong and that

we want justice. It can be easy to say, “This problem doesn’t involve me,” and to be dismissive of it. The U.S.

Bishops challenge us to reflect on this reality and how it might affect our own communities, through their

pastoral letter Open Wide Our Hearts, which can be found on www.usccb.org and is linked on our parish web-

sites. We start by understanding, which requires listening. Are there places where we can hear another speak?

Christ’s work of redemption is still needed in our time and our land. I encourage you to read the bishops’ letter

(it is two pages): Open Wide Our Hearts.

We gathered for Mass last weekend for the first time since March 16. Change is difficult. We give thanks for

God’s faithfulness, that he still comes to us in the Eucharist. I am glad for those who were with us. Thank you in

a special way to those who will continue to assist as lector or extraordinary minister of Holy Communion during

the pandemic. There was a small glitch in the livestream - now at 9am – but I am thankful to the volunteer that

makes it possible to offer that option for those who are taking extra precautions during the time of the

pandemic.

We certainly need our Lord to work in our hearts. In that way we will be able to work together in the weeks

ahead. God bless you and keep you safe.

In Christ,

PREP

God Bless you all and your families. Please know that you are in our prayers. To help you keep the faith alive while PREP is not in class we ask you to pick up your child’s packet in the back porch of the St. Julie Parish Office. We ask you to do two important things each week: 1.) Have your family pray the Sunday Mass online or on TV. Find information on Masses at our www.stjulie.net home page online. 2.) Cover a chapter in your child’s religion text or use the Pflaum Sunday Gospel Weekly. Parents can find weekly Pflaum Gospel lessons at the link below and register. Use our PREP account number: 1122663. Here’s the direct link: https://www.pflaumweeklies.com/lesson-downloads/ The lessons are listed in the “What is Pflaum Doing in Response to Covid-19?” section. It’s on the homepage but you have to scroll down once. The lessons are in Spanish and in English. Please contact Mary Pat Austing [email protected] or Pilar Hernandez [email protected] or leave a message at our voice mailboxes at 863-1040 with any questions. Confirmation Parent Meetings will be in the Fall. Information about First Communion Masses will be determined at a later date. Please continue to review the Mass and the white First Communion book with your first communicant. Vacation Bible School – We are considering doing a VIRTUAL VBS in JULY! Crafts, dances, songs, Bible Stories, snack plans, outside games will be organized for families to do at home!

9 Months In the Womb With Christ—June 7—Week 11 Jesus now has fingernails, toenails, and functioning kidneys. He even drinks in the amniotic fluid that surrounds him. Jesus of the womb, Hear our prayers!

Gracias!

Throughout 2020, the Sisters of Notre Dame de Namur are celebrating the life and legacy of Sr. Dorothy Stang, who was murdered in the Brazilian rainforest on Feb. 12, 2005. Sr. Dorothy remains a model of Jesus' Gospel message to love the poor and oppressed and our call to care for our beautiful Earth. The sisters have a variety of events planned to honor Dorothy and enable others to share their memories of her, including a virtual prayer service scheduled for June 7 at 4 p.m., on what would have been her 89th birthday.
